DNA interactions of ruthenium(II) complexes with a polypyridyl ligand: 2-(2, 5-dimethoxyphenyl)-1<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>-imidazo[4,5-<Emphasis Type="Italic">f</Emphasis>]1,10-phenanthroline

This article describes the synthesis of a polypyridyl ligand, namely 2-(2, 5-dimethoxyphenyl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-f]1,10-phenanthroline (DMPIP) and its Ru(II) complexes, namely [Ru(bipy)₂DMPIP]²⁺ (1), [Ru(dmb)₂DMPIP]²⁺ (2) and [Ru(phen)₂DMPIP]²⁺ (3) ((bipy = 2,2′-bipyridine, dmb = 4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridine, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline). The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, plus IR, ¹H-NMR and ¹³C [¹H]-NMR spectra. The interactions of the complexes with calf thymus DNA were investigated. The results indicate that the three complexes can intercalate into DNA. Under irradiation at 365 nm, all three complexes promote the photocleavage of plasmid pBR 322 DNA. Inhibitor studies suggest that singlet oxygen plays a significant role in the cleavage mechanism for the complexes.     

Synthesis of imidazo[4,5-<Emphasis Type="Italic">a</Emphasis>]acridones and imidazo[4,5-<Emphasis Type="Italic">a</Emphasis>]acridines as potential antibacterial agents

Abstract  New imidazo[4,5-a]acridone derivatives were synthesized from the rearrangement of 3H-imidazo[4′,5′:3,4]benzo[c]isoxazoles. New imidazo[4,5-a]acridines were obtained from the reaction of imidazo[4,5-a]acridones in boiling POCl₃. All of these compounds exhibited antimicrobial activities comparable to streptomycin as reference drug. Graphical abstract        

Synthesis,crystal structure,and thermal analysis of a copper(II) complex with imidazo[4,5-<Emphasis Type="Italic">f</Emphasis>]1,10-phenantroline

A new complex, [Cu₂(μ ₂-Cl)₂(IP)₂Cl₂] · 4H₂O (IP = imidazo[4,5-f]1,10-phenathroline), was synthesised and characterised by elemental analysis, thermal analysis, IR spectra, and X-ray crystallography. The results showed that the complex crystallises in the monoclinic space group P \(\bar 1\); a = 7.880 (2) Å, b = 9.227(2) Å, c = 10.694(2) Å; α = 97.788(4)°, β = 100.637(4)°, γ = 95.841(3)°; V = 750.7(3) ų, and Z = 1. The complex is further stabilised by H-bonds and a π-π stacking interaction between the pyridine and benzene rings of two neighbouring molecules with the centroid.centroid distance of 3.498(3) Å, leading to a 3D supramolecular architecture. Thermal decomposition procedure of the complex explored by TG-DTG has three stages, and the final product is Cu in residual rate of 16.18 % (calculated to be 16.26 %).     

New general synthesis of benzo[4,5]imidazo[1,2-<Emphasis Type="Italic">a</Emphasis>]pyrimidine and benzo[4,5]imidazo[2,1-<Emphasis Type="Italic">b</Emphasis>]quinazoline derivatives

The reactions of benzene-1,2-diamine with 5-substituted 2-(alkylsulfanyl)-4-methylpyrimidin-6(1H)-ones and 2-(propylsulfanyl)- and 5-iodo-2-(propylsulfanyl)-3,4-dihydroquinazolines at 175–185°C under solvent-free conditions unexpectedly afforded benzo[4,5]imidazo[1,2-a]pyrimidine, benzo[4,5]imidazo[2,1-b]-quinazoline, and 2,2′-(benzene-1,2-diyldiimino)bis[pyrimidin-4(3H)-ones]. The described reaction is the first example of synthesis of these heterocyclic systems by fusion of benzimidazole to pyrimidine or quinazoline and is likely to follow ANRORC mechanism.     

Synthesis and properties of cyanomethyl derivatives of imidazo[1,2-<Emphasis Type="Italic">a</Emphasis>]pyridine,imidazo[1,2-<Emphasis Type="Italic">a</Emphasis>]pyrimidine,and imidazo[2,1-<Emphasis Type="Italic">b</Emphasis>]thiazole

2-Cyanomethyl derivatives were obtained of imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine, imidazo[1,2-a]pyrimidine, and imidazo[2,1-b]thiazole, and their reactivity was investigated by an example of imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine: It was subjected to nitration, bromination, azo coupling and nitrosation. Acylation of the methylene group effected by amino acids esters with a subsequent addition of the amino group to the cyano group resulted in the formation of 5-amino-4-imidazo[1,2-a]-pyridin-2-yl-1-phenyl-1,2-dihydro-3H-pyrrol-3-one and 2-amino-1-ethyl-3-imidazol[1,2-a]pyridin-2-yl-4(1H)-quinolinone.     

Synthesis and structures of benzo[<Emphasis Type="Italic">cd</Emphasis>]furo[2,3-<Emphasis Type="Italic">f</Emphasis>]indol-4(5<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>)-one derivatives

A procedure was developed for the synthesis of derivatives of the new heterocyclic system, benzo[cd]furo[2,3-f]indole, based on the cyclodehydration of 6-acylmethyloxy-1-alkyl-benzo[cd]indol-2(1H)-ones. Either 7- or 8-aryl derivatives of benzo[cd]furo[2,3-f]indol-4(5H)-ones can be prepared depending on the reaction conditions. The molecular and crystal structures of 7- and 8-phenylbenzo[cd]furo[2,3-f]indol-4(5H)-ones were established by X-ray diffraction.     

Bis[1,3]thiazolo[4,5-<Emphasis Type="Italic">f</Emphasis>:5',4'-<Emphasis Type="Italic">h</Emphasis>]thieno[3,4-<Emphasis Type="Italic">b</Emphasis>]quinoxaline Derivatives as New Building Blocks of Polymers for Organic Electronics

New derivatives of bis[1,3]thiazolo[4,5-f:5',4'-h]thieno[3,4-b]quinoxaline containing the fused thiadiazoloquinoxaline moiety have been prepared. Monomer M1 shows strong light absorption within 600–800 nm due to intramolecular charge transfer. The optical bandgap E _g ^opt determined from the absorption edge in a film is 1.44 eV. The HOMO and LUMO levels are–5.44 and–3.12 eV, respectively. The new structural fragment has a rather low frontier molecular orbital energies and a small bandgap; therefore, it is a promising building block for the synthesis of polymers for organic electronics.     

Synthesis of azepino[1,2-<Emphasis Type="Italic">a</Emphasis>]benzimidazoles and imidazo[1,2-<Emphasis Type="Italic">a</Emphasis>]azepines

Fusion of 4-bromo-1,3-diphenyl-2-buten-1-ones (γ-bromodypnones) with 1,2-dimethyl-1H-benzimidazole and further treatment of the reaction product with a base (morpholine) gives 7,9-diaryl-5-methyl5,10-dihydroazepino[1,2-a]benzimidazol-11-ium bromides. The reaction of γ-bromodypnone with 1-alkyl-2-methyl-1H-imidazoles in benzene at 25 °C gives quaternary azolium salts. Upon heating their solutions in alcohol in the presence of K₂CO₃ the latter cyclize to 1-R-6,8-diaryl-1,5-dihydroimidazo[1,2-a]azepin-4-ium bromides or 1-R-6,8-diaryl-1H-imidazo[1,2-a]azepines depending on the nature of the substituent in the benzene rings and the substituent at the N(1) atom of the imidazole.     

Synthesis of (<Emphasis Type="Italic">E</Emphasis>)-<Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis>-(3-alkoxy-4-acyloxyphenylmethylene)-<Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis>-(<Emphasis Type="Italic">e</Emphasis>-cyclohexyl)amines

Previously unknown E isomers of azomethines (Schiff bases) were synthesized from vanillal and vanillin esters by their reaction with cyclohexylamine.     

A clean synthesis of oxazino[5,6-<Emphasis Type="Italic">f</Emphasis>]quinolinone and naphtho[1,2-<Emphasis Type="Italic">e</Emphasis>]oxazinone derivatives

A clean, simple, one-pot, and efficient synthesis of 1,2-dihydro-1-aryl[1,3]oxazino[5,6-f]quinolin-3-one and 1,2-dihydro-1-arylnaphtho[1,2-e]-[1,3]oxazine-3-one derivatives was accomplished in good yields via reaction between 6-quinolinol or 2-naphthol, aromatic aldehydes, and methyl carbamate in aqueous medium catalyzed by TEBA (triethylbenzylammonium chloride). <Emphasis Type="Italic">bis</Emphasis>(<Emphasis Type="Italic">N,N</Emphasis>-diethylnicotinamide) <Emphasis Type="Italic">p</Emphasis>-chlorobenzoate complexes of Ni(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II)

Three novel mixed ligand complexes of Ni(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) with p-chlorobenzote and N,N-diethylnicotinamide were synthesised and characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, FTIR spectroscopic analysis, solid state UV-Vis spectrometric and magnetic susceptibility data. The thermal behavior of the complexes was studied by simultaneous TG-DTA methods in static air atmosphere and the mass spectra data were recorded. According to microanalytical results, formulas of complexes are C₃₄H₄₀N₄O₈ClNi, C₃₄H₄₀N₄O₈ClZn and C₃₄H₄₄N₄O₁₀ClCd. The complexes contain two moles of coordination waters, two moles p-chlorobenzoate and two mole N,N-diethylnicotinamide (dena) ligands per formula unit. In these complexes, the p-chlorobenzoate and N,N-diethylnicotinamide behave as monodentate ligand through acidic oxygen and nitrogen of pyridine ring. The decomposition pathways and the stability of the complexes are interpreted in the terms of the structural data. The final decomposition products were found to be as metal oxides.     

Benzo[4,5]imidazo[2,1-<Emphasis Type="Italic">a</Emphasis>]phthalazines: I. substituted <Emphasis Type="Italic">o</Emphasis>-nitrophenylhydrazines in the synthesis of phthalazin-1(2<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>)-ones

Efficient cyclization procedure was developed for 2-nitro-, 2,4-dinitro-, 2-nitro-5-chloro-, and 4,5-dichloro-2-nitrophenylhydrazines with 2-acylbenzoic acids by heating the reagents in a mixture of of concentrated sulfuric acid and ethanol. A series of new phthalazin-1-ones was obtained with a substituted 2-nitrophenyl group in the position 2 and various substituents in the position 4.     

A facile one-pot synthesis of 6,7,8,9-tetrahydrobenzo[4,5]thieno[2,3-<Emphasis Type="Italic">d</Emphasis>]-1,2,4-triazolo[4,5-<Emphasis Type="Italic">a</Emphasis>]pyrimidin-5-ones

Abstract  The reaction of 2-mercapto-6,7,8,9-tetrahydro-3H-benzo[4,5]thieno[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4-one or its 2-methylthio derivative with hydrazonoyl halides, in the presence of triethylamine, yielded 6,7,8,9-tetrahydrobenzo[4,5]thieno[2,3-d]-1,2,4-triazolo[4,5-a]pyrimidin-5-ones. The structure of the latter compounds was further confirmed by reaction of 2-mercapto-6,7,8,9-tetrahydro-3H-benzo[4,5]thieno[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4-one with the appropriate active chloromethylenes followed by coupling of the products with benzenediazonium chloride to afford the non-isolable azo-coupling products which converted, in situ, to 6,7,8,9-tetrahydrobenzo[4,5]thieno[2,3-d]-1,2,4-triazolo[4,5-a]pyrimidin-5-ones. The reaction mechanism was proposed and the products were screened for their biological activity. Some of the newly synthesized compounds had a moderate effect against some bacterial and fungal species. Graphical abstract

Fluoro-containing Heterocycles: XIII. Fluoro-containing Derivatives of Thiazolo[3,2-<Emphasis Type="Italic">a</Emphasis>]-, Benzothiazolo[3,2-<Emphasis Type="Italic">a</Emphasis>]-, and Benzimidazo[3,2-<Emphasis Type="Italic">a</Emphasis>]quinazolinones

Reactions of 2-aminothiazole, derivatives of 2-aminobenzothiazole and 2-aminobenzoimidazole with polyfluorobenzoyl chlorides gave rise to acylation products that at heating in the diphenyl ether formed fluoro-containing derivatives of thiazolo[3,2-a]-, benzothiazolo[3,2-a]-, and benzimidazo[3,2-a]quinazolinone.     

Synthesis of <Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis>-substituted 1-hydroxypyrrolo[3,4-<Emphasis Type="Italic">f</Emphasis>]indol-5,7-diones

General methods were developed of the synthesis of N-substituted 1-hydroxypyrrolo[3,4-f]indole-5,7-diones using as initial compounds substituted 6-nitroisoindole-1,3-diones and 5-nitro-4-phenacylphtalic acids.     

Synthesis of new 4-(4,5-diphenyl-1h-imidazol- 2-yl)tetrazolo[1,5-<Emphasis Type="Italic">a</Emphasis>]quinolines from tetrazolo[1,5-<Emphasis Type="Italic">a</Emphasis>]quinolines

Some new 4,5-diphenyl-1H-imidazole derivatives were synthesized in good yields by treating various tetrazolo[1,5-a]quinolines with benzil and ammonium acetate in glacial acetic acid.     

Crystal structure of <Emphasis Type="Italic">tris</Emphasis>(1,10-phenanthroline) iron(II) dinitrate dihydrate

The structure of tris(1,10-phenanthroline)iron(II) dinitrate dihydrate [Fe(phen)₃](NO₃)₂·2H₂O was established by X-ray diffraction analysis. The role of hydrogen bonds in crystal packing is discussed.
