Let (V, g) be a Riemannian manifold and let be the isometric immersion operator which, to a map , associates the induced metric on V, where denotes the Euclidean scalar product in . By Nash–Gromov implicit function theorem is infinitesimally invertible over the space of free maps. In this paper we study non-free isometric immersions . We show that the operator (where denotes the space of C - smooth quadratic forms on ) is infinitesimally invertible over a non-empty open subset of and therefore is an open map in the respective fine topologies.   相似文献

We study the nontrivial Killing vector fields of constant length and the corresponding flows on smooth Riemannian manifolds. We describe the properties of the set of all points of finite (infinite) period for general isometric flows on Riemannian manifolds. It is shown that this flow is generated by an effective almost free isometric action of the group S 1 if there are no points of infinite or zero period. In the last case, the set of periods is at most countable and generates naturally an invariant stratification with closed totally geodesic strata; the union of all regular orbits is an open connected dense subset of full measure.  相似文献

Gromov introduced several notions of largeness of Riemannian manifolds and proved that they are all equivalent for manifolds of nonnegative sectional curvature. In this paper, we study the equivalence of these notions in the case of nonnegative Ricci curvature and in particular we give an affirmative answer to one of Gromov's open questions.  相似文献

The object of the present paper is to study a type of Riemannian manifolds called generalized recurrent manifolds. We have constructed two concrete examples of such a manifold whose scalar curvature is non-zero non-constant. Some other properties have been considered. Among others it is shown that on a generalized recurrent manifold with constant scalar curvature, Weyl-semisymmetry and semisymmetry are equivalent. Sufficient condition for a generalized recurrent manifold to be a special quasi Einstein manifold is obtained.  相似文献

This paper considers the existence of a local minimizer of a conformally invariant functional defined on a space of maps of a closed Riemann surface into a compact Riemannian manifold . The functional is defined for a given tensor on of type (1,2) and we call its extremal an -surface. In fact, we prove that there exists a local minimizer of the functional in a given homotopy class under certain conditions on , and the minimum of the Dirichlet integral of maps of the homotopy class. We prove global C0,αC0,α-estimates for harmonic maps from Finsler manifolds into regular balls of Riemannian target manifolds generalizing results of Giaquinta, Hildebrandt, and Hildebrandt, Jost and Widman from Riemannian to Finsler domains. As consequences we obtain a Liouville theorem for entire harmonic maps on simple Finsler manifolds, and an existence theorem for harmonic maps from Finsler manifolds into regular balls of a Riemannian target.  相似文献
