An addition to the family : The introduction of β‐amino acid residues into a modified amyloid β peptide fragment resulted in well‐defined helical nanoribbons (see cryo‐TEM image) comprising β strands mainly oriented perpendicular to the ribbon axis. The nanoribbons order into a flow‐aligning nematic phase at higher concentration. The β‐strand nanoribbon structure is an addition to the known set of secondary structures adopted by β‐peptides.
Tungsten tryst : A 4‐H‐butatrienylidene complex of tungsten was successfully isolated and structurally characterized. It undergoes a unique self‐coupling, which leads to a dimer (see picture; P pink, O red) with a cross‐conjugated π system and with electrochemically and magnetically active metal centers.
A reaction with many facets : The facile dehydrogenative synthesis of a borylene complex (left in scheme) from a dihydroborane (right), proceeds reversibly at room‐temperature. Crystal‐clear structures : The first crystal structures of organometallic pincer–cutinase hybrids (see figure) provide insight into the 3D structural arrangement of both the protein and the organometallic pincer moiety, and reveal different binding modes for different pincers.
The aggregation and self‐assembly of square‐planar alkynylplatinum(II) complexes is induced by the use of a chiral polyacetylene with a helical conformation (see scheme). The chain helicity of the chiral polyacetylene under basic conditions has also been demonstrated to be enhanced by the presence of the positively charged platinum(II) complexes.
You can append on me! Porphyrin‐appended polynorbornenes derived from 5,6‐endo‐fused N‐arylpyrrolidenonorbornenes have been shown to have coherently aligned pendant groups that exhibit exciton coupling and fluorescence quenching in the absorption and emission profiles (see figure).
