A sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) electrode (SDS/MWNTs) was successfully constructed in this study. The electrochemical property of the SDS/MWNTs electrode has been characterized by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). Nyquist plots suggest that the immersion time of SDS affects the resistances of the MWNTs electrodes. The thickness of adsorbed SDS on MWNTs surface is estimated to be 1.23 nm, which is close to the value of SDS monolayer. CV results demonstrate a 5‐fold enhanced response for dopamine (DA) at the SDS/MWNTs electrode compared to the bare MWNTs one. DPV results illustrate that DA can be selectively determined in the presence of high concentration ascorbic acid (AA) with a linear range from 20 μM to 0.20 mM and a sensitivity of 0.024 μA μM?1 at the SDS/MWNTs electrode.  相似文献

Polyaniline‐carboxylic acid functionalized multi‐walled carbon nanotube (PAni/c‐MWNT) nanocomposites were prepared in sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) emulsion. First, the c‐MWNTs were dispersed in SDS emulsion then the aniline was polymerized by the addition of ammonium persulfate in the absence of any added acid. SDS forms the functionalized counterion in the resulting nanocomposites. The content of c‐MWNTs in the nanocomposites varied from 0 to 20 wt%. A uniform coating of PAni was observed on the c‐MWNTs by field‐emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). The PAni/c‐MWNT nanocomposites have been characterized by different spectroscopic methods such as UV‐Visible, FT‐Raman, and FT‐IR. The UV‐Visible spectra of the PAni/c‐MWNT nanocomposites exhibited an additional band at around 460 nm, which implies the induced doping of the MWNTs by the carboxyl group. The FT‐IR spectra of the PAni/c‐MWNT nanocomposites showed an inverse intensity ratio of the bands at 1562 and 1480 cm?1 as compared to that of pure PAni, which reveals that the PAni in the nanocomposites is richer in quinoid units than the pure PAni. The increase in the thermal stability of conductivity of the nanocomposites was due to the network structure of nanotubes and the charge transfer between the quinoid rings of the PAni and the c‐MWNTs. A novel additive of multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) dispersed with cationic surfactants or mixed cationic/anionic surfactants was used for MEEKC separation of eight phenolic compounds, four glycosides, and one phenanthraquinone. In this context, several parameters affecting MEEKC separation were studied, including the dispersion agents of MWNTs, MWNTs content, oil type, SDS concentration, and the type and concentration of cosurfactant. Compared with conventional MEEKC, the addition of all types of MWNTs dispersions using single or mixed cationic surfactant solutions in running buffers was especially useful for improving the separation of solutes tested, as they influenced the partitioning between the oil droplets and aqueous phase due to the exceptional electrical properties and large surface areas of MWNTs. Use of cationic surfactant‐coated MWNTs (6.4 μg/mL) as the additive in a microemulsion buffer (0.5% octanol, 2.8% SDS, 5.8% isopropanol, and 5 mM borate buffer) yielded complete resolution of 13 analytes. The proposed method has been successfully applied for the detection and quantification of the studied compounds in a complex matrix sample (Compound Xueshuantong capsule).  相似文献

Acid-based purification process of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) produced via catalytic decomposition of methane with NiO/TiO2 as a catalyst is described. By combining the oxidation in air and the acid refluxes, the impurities, such as amorphous carbon, carbon nanoparticles, and the NiO/TiO2 catalyst, are eliminated. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images confirm the removal of the impurities. The percentage of the carbon nanotubes purity was analyzed using thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). Using this process, 99.9 wt% purity of MWNTs was obtained.  相似文献

The poly(N‐vinylcarbazole)‐grafted MWNTs (MWNT‐PVK) hybrid materials were synthesized in the presence of S‐1‐Dodecyl‐S′‐(α, α′‐dimethyl‐α″‐acetic acid) trithiocarbonate (DDAT)‐covalently functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNT‐DDAT) as reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) agent. Incorporation of the PVK moieties onto the MWNTs surface can considerably improve the solubility and processability of MWNTs. For all MWNT‐PVK hybrid materials, they are soluble in some common organic solvents such as toluene, THF, chloroform, DMF and others. In contrast to the UV/Vis spectrum of DDAT‐PVK, which was synthesized by use of DDAT as RAFT agent under the same synthetic condition, in the visible region, the absorption spectrum of MWNT‐PVK exhibited a typical electronic absorption characteristics of solubilized carbon nanotubes, in which the absorbance decreases gradually in the range of 350–600 nm. At the same level of linear transmission the MWNT‐PVK with 79.2% PVK moieties in the material structure possesses best optical limiting performance in comparison with the other MWNT‐PVK composites, MWNTs and C60. The significant NLO responses manifest the MWNT‐PVK materials suitable candidate for viable optical limiting devices. Light scattering, originating from the thermal‐induced microplasmas and/or microbubbles, is responsible for the optical limiting. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Organic–inorganic composites composed of electrically conducting copolymer p‐phenylenediamine‐ co‐o‐aminophenol and carboxylic acid functionalized multi‐walled carbon nanotubes [poly(pPD‐co‐oAP)/c‐MWNTs] were prepared via in situ emulsion pathway using sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) as an emulsifier and potassium persulphate as an oxidant. Acid functionalized MWNTs were used as cores in the formation of tubular shells of the composites. TEM and FESEM analysis showed that a tubular layer of coated copolymer film of several nanometer thicknesses is present on the c‐MWNTs surfaces. FT‐IR spectra endorsed the formation of composites. TGA results indicated that the decomposition temperatures of composites were higher than the bare copolymer. UV‐visible absorption spectra of diluted colloidal dispersion of composites were similar to those of the bare copolymer. The composites were also confirmed by XRD and XPS. Room‐temperature conductivity increases with an increasing fraction of c‐MWNTs. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A new method was developed for preparing polystyrene‐functionalized multiple‐walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) through the termination of anionically synthesized living polystyryllithium with the acyl chloride functionalities on the MWNTs. The acyl chloride functionalities on the MWNTs were in turn obtained by the formation of carboxyls via chemical oxidation and their conversion into acyl chlorides. The polystyrene‐functionalized MWNTs had good dispersion in common organic solvents, and this indicated good compatibility for the preparation of styrenic nanocomposite materials. The synthesis results and characterization data for the functionalized MWNTs, collected via Fourier transform infrared, thermogravimetric analysis, solid‐state NMR, and electron microscopy, are presented and discussed. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A methodology for improving antistatic property of polyetherimide (PEI) composite using polyaniline (PANI) grafted multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) as conductive medium was proposed. First, the MWNTs grafted with PANI (PANI‐g‐MWNTs) were prepared by in‐situ polymerization in an emulsion system. Subsequently, PANI‐g‐MWNTs were blended with PEI using N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone as solvent. After removing the solvent, the PEI/PANI‐g‐MWNT composite was prepared. As assisted conductive medium, the grafted PANI molecular chains on MWNT surface were dispersed in the PEI matrix to decrease the percolation value of the antistatic composites. The structure and morphology of PANI‐g‐MWNTs were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, transmission electron microscope, thermogravimetric analysis, and X‐ray powder diffraction, respectively. The dispersion of PANI‐g‐MWNTs in PEI matrix was studied by scanning electron microscope. The electrical performance was characterized by highly resistant meter. The volume resistivity of the conductivity percolation threshold was 1.781 × 10?8 S/cm when the loading of PANI‐g‐MWNTs was 1.0 wt%. The conductivity of PANI‐g‐MWNTs/PEI composites was found to be higher than that of pristine MWNTs/PEI composite. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Biodegradable poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate) (PHB)/functionalized multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (f‐MWNTs) nanocomposite was prepared in this work by solution casting method at 2 wt% f‐MWNTs loading. Scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy observations indicate a homogeneous distribution of f‐MWNTs in the PHB matrix. Nonisothermal melt crystallization, overall isothermal melt crystallization kinetics, and crystalline morphology of neat PHB and the PHB/f‐MWNTs nanocomposite were studied in detail. It is found that the presence of f‐MWNTs enhances the crystallization of PHB during nonisothermal and isothermal melt crystallization processes in the nanocomposite due to the heterogeneous nucleation effect of f‐MWNTs. Moreover, the incorporation of a small quantity of f‐MWNTs apparently improves the thermal stability of the PHB/f‐MWNTs nanocomposite with respect to neat PHB. Two methods are employed to study the activation energies of thermal degradation for both the neat PHB and the PHB/f‐MWNTs nanocomposite. The activation energy of thermal degradation of the PHB/f‐MWNTs nanocomposite is higher than that of neat PHB. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Diels–Alder cycloaddition reactions were used to functionalize multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) with 1‐benzocylcobutene‐1′‐phenylethylene (BCB‐PE) or 4‐hydroxyethylbenzocyclobutene (BCB‐EO). The covalent functionalization of the nanotubes with these initiator precursors was verified by FTIR and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). After appropriate transformations/additions, the functionalized MWNTs were used for surface initiated anionic and ring opening polymerizations of ethylene oxide and ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL), respectively. The OH‐end groups were transformed to isopropylbromide groups by reaction with 2‐bromoisobutyryl bromide, for subsequent atom transfer radical polymerization of styrene or 2‐dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate to afford the final diblock copolymers. 1H NMR, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), TGA, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used for the characterization of the nanocomposite materials. TEM images showed the presence of a polymer layer around the MWNTs as well as the dissociation of MWNT bundles. Consequently, this general methodology, employing combinations of different polymerization techniques, increases the diversity of diblocks that can be grafted from MWNTs. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Carboxyl multi‐wall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs‐COOH) were grafted by diaminopropyl terminated dimethylpolysiloxane (DPD) to the modified MWNTs‐COOH (MWNTs‐DPD). The surface structure and thermal stability of MWNTs‐DPD and MWNTs‐COOH were characterized using Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Then PC/MWNTs‐COOH and PC/MWNTs‐DPD nanocomposites were prepared by the solution method and melt extrusion method. The mechanical properties, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), TGA, limiting oxygen index (LOI), UL‐94 test, and permittivity test were used to evaluate the properties of the composites. The results showed that the MWNTs‐DPD was dispersed well in the PC matrix, and its tensile strength, flexual strength, flexural modulus, and flame retardancy were better than that of PC/MWNTs‐COOH. MWNTs‐DPD can improve the electrical properties of the nanocomposites at the low loading in PC. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

High‐surface‐area, guava‐leaf‐derived, heteroatom‐containing activated carbon (GHAC) materials were synthesized by means of a facile chemical activation method with KOH as activating agent and exploited as catalyst supports to disperse nickel oxide (NiO) nanocrystals (average size (2.0±0.1) nm) through a hydrothermal process. The textural and structural properties of these GHAC/NiO nanocomposites were characterized by various physicochemical techniques, namely, field‐emission SEM, high‐resolution TEM, elemental analysis, X‐ray diffraction, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and Raman spectroscopy. The as‐synthesized GHAC/NiO nanocomposites were employed as binder‐free electrodes, which exhibited high specific capacitance (up to 461 F g?1 at a current density of 2.3 A g?1) and remarkable cycling stability, which may be attributed to the unique properties of GHAC and excellent electrochemical activity of the highly dispersed NiO nanocrystals.  相似文献

In recent years, there is an increasing interest in the fabrication of inorganic–organic materials considering the remarkable change and improvement in properties. In this investigation, nanosized nickel oxide (NiO) particles were first prepared by calcination of nickel hydroxide precursor obtained by a simple liquid‐phase process. Mixed phases of NiO and nickel hydroxide were present as the calcination temperature was lower than 250°C. Non‐stoichiometric NiO was formed between 250°C and 350°C, and a pure NiO was obtained as the temperature reached 500°C. The surface characteristics of NiO particles were evaluated by measuring the adsorption behavior of anionic and cationic surfactants and some biomolecules. NiO/poly(methyl methacrylate) composite particles were then prepared using variable NiO/methyl methacrylate (MMA) ratio by seeded emulsion polymerization. The efficiency of NiO incorporation in the composite increased as the MMA content was increased in the recipe. The composite particles were colloidally stable, and the obtained particles were characterized by Fourier transform infrared, scanning electron microscopy, X‐ray diffraction, and X‐ray photoelectron spectra. Nanocomposite materials were prepared with an amorphous poly(styrene‐co‐butyl acrylate) latex as a matrix with multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) as fillers. The microstructure of the related films was observed by transmission electron microscopy, which showed that a good dispersion of MWNTs within the matrix was obtained. The linear and nonlinear mechanical behavior and the electrical properties were analyzed. Mechanical characterization showed a mechanical reinforcement effect of the MWNTs with a relatively small decrease of the elongation at break. The composite materials exhibited an elastic behavior with increasing temperature, although the matrix alone became viscous under the same conditions. The electrical conductivity of the composite filled with 3 vol % MWNTs was studied during a tensile test, which highlighted the late damage of the material. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were functionalized with a silane coupling agent. The MWNTs were first coated with inorganic silica by a sol‐gel process and then grafted with 3‐methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (3‐MPTS). The effect of raw MWNTs and silane‐functionalized MWNTs on the crystallization behavior of poly(propylene) (PP) was investigated by means of polarized optical microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction. Results obtained from isothermal crystallization experiments indicate that 3‐MPTS functionalization affects the crystallization and melting behavior of PP/MWNTs composites remarkably, which can be attributed to the fact that 3‐MPTS functionalization of MWNTs leads to a uniform dispersion of MWNTs in PP matrix resulting in the good nucleating effect of MWNTs. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A simple physical method was developed for the surface modification and the solubilization of MWNTs in water by Congo red. The resulting water‐soluble MWNTs (MWNTs‐CR) can form stable and uniform films on solid supports when dried, which was used to fabricate MWNTs‐CR modified glassy carbon electrodes (MWNTs‐CR/GCE). Voltammetric studies showed that MWNTs‐CR/GCE exhibited a strong enhancement effect on the electrooxidation of ofloxacin. MWNTs‐CR films were also proved to possess overwhelming advantages as electrochemical sensing films over other commonly used MWNTs composite films (e.g., MWNTs‐DHP and MWNTs‐Nafion), reflected by the higher oxidation current, lower background and stronger accumulation capacity towards less soluble species. The sensitive oxidation of ofloxacin at MWNTs‐CR/GCE was used for the determination of ofloxacin. Under optimal conditions, the oxidation current was proportional to ofloxacin concentration in the ranges of 5×10?8–3.0×10?5 M. The detection limit of 9×10?9 M was obtained for 350 s accumulation at open circuit (S/N=3). This method was applied to the determination of ofloxacin in human urine and the result was satisfying.  相似文献

Polystyrene‐grafted multiwalled carbon nanotubes (PS‐g‐MWNTs) with a hairy‐rod nanostructure were synthesized by the in situ free‐radical polymerization of styrene in the presence of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) terminated with vinyl groups. To quantitatively study the molecular weight and composition of polystyrene (PS) chains in PS‐g‐MWNTs, PS‐g‐MWNTs were fully defunctionalized by hydrolysis. The results showed that 1 of every 100 carbon atoms in MWNTs was functionalized at the tips and outer walls of the carbon nanotubes and grafted by PS with a weight‐average molecular weight of 9800 g/mol; therefore, a uniform thin layer (ca. 8–10 nm) of a PS shell was formed on the outer wall of MWNTs. PS‐g‐MWNTs were soluble in dimethylformamide and tetrahydrofuran. The thermal stability and glass‐transition temperature of PS in PS‐g‐MWNTs were obviously increased. Nanopins were formed on the glass substrates by the self‐assembly of PS‐g‐MWNTs, and the dewetting effect between the glass substrate and PS chains covered MWNTs during the evaporation of the solution. Both the length and diameter of the nanopins increased with the solution concentration. When PS‐g‐MWNTs were compression‐molded, MWNTs were dispersed uniformly in the PS matrix and formed good networks, such as circlelike and starlike structures, because of the entanglements of hairy PS chains on MWNTs. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Solubilization of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is a fundamental technique for the use of CNTs and their conjugates as nanodevices and nanobiodevices. In this work, we demonstrate the preparation of CNT suspensions with “green” detergents made from coconuts and bamboo as fundamental research in CNT nanotechnology. Single-walled CNTs (SWNTs) with a few carboxylic acid groups (3–5%) and pristine multi-walled CNTs (MWNTs) were mixed in each detergent solution and sonicated with a bath-type sonicator. The prepared suspensions were characterized using absorbance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. Among the eight combinations of CNTs and detergents (two types of CNTs and four detergents, including sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as the standard), SWNTs/MWNTs were well dispersed in all combinations except the combination of the MWNTs and the bamboo detergent. The stability of the suspensions prepared with coconut detergents was better than that prepared with SDS. Because the efficiency of the bamboo detergents against the MWNTs differed significantly from that against the SWNTs, the natural detergent might be useful for separating CNTs. Our results revealed that the use of the “green” detergents had the advantage of dispersing CNTs as well as SDS.  相似文献

Pristine multiwalled carbon nanotubes (P‐MWNTs) were functionalized with 4‐chlorobenzoic acid via “direct” Friedel‐Crafts acylation in polyphosphoric acid (PPA)/phosphorous pentoxide (P2O5) medium. The resultant 4‐chlorobenzoyl‐functionalized MWNTs (F‐MWNTs) were soluble in chlorinated solvents such as dichloromethane, chloroform, and carbon tetrachloride. A large scale of nylon 610/F‐MWNT composite could be conveniently prepared by in situ interfacial polymerization of 1, 6‐hexamethylenediamine (HMDA) in an aqueous phase, and sebacoyl chloride with F‐MWNTs in an organic phase. Similarly, nylon 610/P‐MWNT composite was also prepared for comparison. The state of F‐MWNTs dispersion in nylon 610 matrix was distinctively better than that of P‐MWNTs, which could be clearly discerned by both naked eye and scanning electron microcopy (SEM). As a result, the tensile strength of nylon 610/F‐MWNT composite was 4.9‐fold higher than that of nylon 610/P‐MWNT composite. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effects of pristine and amino‐functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) on the crystallization behaviors of nylon‐6 were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry and X‐ray diffraction. The results indicate the presence of polymorphism in nylon‐6 and its composites, which is dependent on the MWNTs concentration and the cooling rate. More MWNTs and slow cooling from the melt favors the formation of α crystalline form. With the increase in cooling rates, the crystallinity of neat nylon‐6 decreases, and that of the composites decreases initially but increases afterward. Moreover, the degree of crystallinity of the composites is higher than neat nylon‐6 under high cooling rates, counter to what is observed under low cooling rates. The heterogeneous nucleation induced by MWNTs and the restricted mobility of polymer chains are considered as the main factors. Furthermore, addition of MWNTs increases the crystallization rate of α crystalline form but amino‐functionalization of MWNTs weakens this effect. The influence of thermal treatment on the crystalline structure of MWNTs/nylon‐6 composites is also discussed. A γ–α phase transition takes place at lower temperature for MWNTs/nylon‐6 composites than for nylon‐6. The annealing peaks of the composites annealed at 160 °C are higher than that of neat nylon‐6, and the highest annealing peak is obtained for amino‐functionalized MWNTs/nylon‐6 composites. This phenomenon is closely related to the different nucleation and recrystallization behaviors produced by various MWNTs in confined space. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
