Reversible and non‐bonding interaction between SWNTs and ODCB is observed from the analyses of visible near‐infrared absorption data and Raman spectroscopies (see spectra). The solvent effect on SWNTs effectively controls the electronic structure of SWNTs under homogeneous conditions.
Zeptomole detector: A highly sensitive giant‐magnetoresistive chip and FeCo nanoparticles can be used to linearly detect 600–4500 copies of streptavidin. Under unoptimized conditions, this system also detects human IL‐6 with a sensitivity 13‐times higher than that of standard ELISA techniques.
Something fishy : Ciguatoxin (see structure) is one of the principal toxins involved in ciguatera poisoning and the target of a total synthesis involving the coupling of three segments. The key transformations in this synthesis feature acetylene–dicobalthexacarbonyl complexation.
Biomimetic tandem protein/lipid damage : The reactions of reductive reactive species, produced by γ irradiation of water, with Zn and Cd complexes of a metallothionein from a plant afford diffusible sulfur‐centred radicals generated from methionine residues and sulfide ligands. These species migrate from the aqueous phase to the lipid bilayer and transform the cis double bond of the oleate moiety to trans isomer (see scheme).
One catalyst fits all! One catalyst is active for a wide set of benzylating reactions (see scheme). A tandem process allows the use of aldehydes and ketones as benzylating agents.
One‐nucleotide differences in microRNAs (miRNAs) can be discriminated in an assay based on a branched rolling‐circle amplification (BRCA) reaction and fluorescence quantification. With the proposed method miRNA can be detected at concentrations as low as 10 fM , and the miRNA in a total RNA sample of a few nanograms can be determined.
