A proper vertex coloring of a graph G = (V, E) is acyclic if G contains no bicolored cycle. Given a list assignment L = {L(v)|vV} of G, we say G is acyclically L‐list colorable if there exists a proper acyclic coloring π of G such that π(v)∈L(v) for all vV. If G is acyclically L‐list colorable for any list assignment with |L(v)|≥k for all vV, then G is acyclically k‐choosable. In this article we prove that every planar graph without 4‐cycles and without intersecting triangles is acyclically 5‐choosable. This improves the result in [M. Chen and W. Wang, Discrete Math 308 (2008), 6216–6225], which says that every planar graph without 4‐cycles and without two triangles at distance less than 3 is acyclically 5‐choosable. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A proper vertex coloring of a graph G = (V,E) is acyclic if G contains no bicolored cycle. A graph G is acyclically L‐list colorable if for a given list assignment L = {L(v): v: ∈ V}, there exists a proper acyclic coloring ? of G such that ?(v) ∈ L(v) for all vV. If G is acyclically L‐list colorable for any list assignment with |L (v)|≥ k for all vV, then G is acyclically k‐choosable. In this article, we prove that every planar graph G without 4‐ and 5‐cycles, or without 4‐ and 6‐cycles is acyclically 5‐choosable. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The conjecture on acyclic 5‐choosability of planar graphs [Borodin et al., 2002] as yet has been verified only for several restricted classes of graphs. None of these classes allows 4‐cycles. We prove that a planar graph is acyclically 5‐choosable if it does not contain an i‐cycle adjacent to a j‐cycle where 3?j?5 if i = 3 and 4?j?6 if i = 4. This result absorbs most of the previous work in this direction. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory 68:169‐176, 2011  相似文献

Every planar graph is known to be acyclically 7‐choosable and is conjectured to be acyclically 5‐choosable (O. V. Borodin, D. G. Fon‐Der‐Flaass, A. V. Kostochka, E. Sopena, J Graph Theory 40 (2002), 83–90). This conjecture if proved would imply both Borodin's (Discrete Math 25 (1979), 211–236) acyclic 5‐color theorem and Thomassen's (J Combin Theory Ser B 62 (1994), 180–181) 5‐choosability theorem. However, as yet it has been verified only for several restricted classes of graphs. Some sufficient conditions are also obtained for a planar graph to be acyclically 4‐ and 3‐choosable. In particular, the acyclic 4‐choosability was proved for the following planar graphs: without 3‐, 4‐, and 5‐cycles (M. Montassier, P. Ochem, and A. Raspaud, J Graph Theory 51 (2006), 281–300), without 4‐, 5‐, and 6‐cycles, or without 4‐, 5‐, and 7‐cycles, or without 4‐, 5‐, and intersecting 3‐cycles (M. Montassier, A. Raspaud, W. Wang, Topics Discrete Math (2006), 473–491), and neither 4‐ and 5‐cycles nor 8‐cycles having a triangular chord (M. Chen and A. Raspaud, Discrete Math. 310(15–16) (2010), 2113–2118). The purpose of this paper is to strengthen these results by proving that each planar graph without 4‐ and 5‐cycles is acyclically 4‐choosable.  相似文献

The choosability of a graph G is the minimum k such that having k colors available at each vertex guarantees a proper coloring. Given a toroidal graph G, it is known that , and if and only if G contains K7. Cai et al. (J Graph Theory 65(1) (2010), 1–15) proved that a toroidal graph G without 7‐cycles is 6‐choosable, and if and only if G contains K6. They also proved that a toroidal graph G without 6‐cycles is 5‐choosable, and conjectured that if and only if G contains K5. We disprove this conjecture by constructing an infinite family of non‐4‐colorable toroidal graphs with neither K5 nor cycles of length at least 6; moreover, this family of graphs is embeddable on every surface except the plane and the projective plane. Instead, we prove the following slightly weaker statement suggested by Zhu: toroidal graphs containing neither (a K5 missing one edge) nor 6‐cycles are 4‐choosable. This is sharp in the sense that forbidding only one of the two structures does not ensure that the graph is 4‐choosable.  相似文献

Edge choosability of planar graphs without short cycles   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper we prove that if G is a planar graph with △= 5 and without 4-cycles or 6-cycles, then G is edge-6-choosable. This consequence together with known results show that, for each fixed k ∈{3,4,5,6}, a k-cycle-free planar graph G is edge-(△ 1)-choosable, where △ denotes the maximum degree of G.  相似文献

It is known that not all planar graphs are 4‐choosable; neither all of them are vertex 2‐arborable. However, planar graphs without 4‐cycles and even those without 4‐cycles adjacent to 3‐cycles are known to be 4‐choosable. We extend this last result in terms of covering the vertices of a graph by induced subgraphs of variable degeneracy. In particular, we prove that every planar graph without 4‐cycles adjacent to 3‐cycles can be covered by two induced forests. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory 62, 234–240, 2009  相似文献

A proper edge coloring of a graph G is said to be acyclic if there is no bicolored cycle in G.The acyclic edge chromatic number of G,denoted byχ′a(G),is the smallest number of colors in an acyclic edge coloring of G.Let G be a planar graph with maximum degree. In this paper,we show thatχ′a(G)+2,if G has no adjacent i-and j-cycles for any i,j∈{3,4,5},which implies a result of Hou,Liu and Wu(2012);andχ′a(G)+3,if G has no adjacent i-and j-cycles for any i,j∈{3,4,6}.  相似文献

In 2003, O. V. Borodin and A. Raspaud conjectured that every planar graph with the minimum distance between triangles, dΔ, at least 1 and without 5‐cycles is 3‐colorable. This Bordeaux conjecture (Brdx3CC) has common features with Havel's (1970) and Steinberg's (1976) 3‐color problems. A relaxation of Brdx3CC with dΔ?4 was confirmed in 2003 by Borodin and Raspaud, whose result was improved to dΔ?3 by Borodin and A. N. Glebov (2004) and, independently, by B. Xu (2007). The purpose of this article is to make the penultimate step (dΔ?2) towards Brdx3CC.

It is well known that every planar graph G is 2‐colorable in such a way that no 3‐cycle of G is monochromatic. In this paper, we prove that G has a 2‐coloring such that no cycle of length 3 or 4 is monochromatic. The complete graph K5 does not admit such a coloring. On the other hand, we extend the result to K5‐minor‐free graphs. There are planar graphs with the property that each of their 2‐colorings has a monochromatic cycle of length 3, 4, or 5. In this sense, our result is best possible. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory 46: 25–38, 2004  相似文献

A graph G is k-degenerate if each subgraph of G has a vertex of degree at most k. It is known that every simple planar graph with girth 6, or equivalently without 3-, 4-, and 5-cycles, is 2-degenerate. In this work, we investigate for which k every planar graph without 4-, 6-, … , and 2k-cycles is 2-degenerate. We determine that k is 5 and the result is tight since the truncated dodecahedral graph is a 3-regular planar graph without 4-, 6-, and 8-cycles. As a related result, we also show that every planar graph without 4-, 6-, 9-, and 10-cycles is 2-degenerate.  相似文献

Suppose that G is a planar graph with maximum degree Δ. In this paper it is proved that G is total-(Δ + 2)-choosable if (1) Δ ≥ 7 and G has no adjacent triangles (i.e., no two triangles are incident with a common edge); or (2) Δ ≥ 6 and G has no intersecting triangles (i.e., no two triangles are incident with a common vertex); or (3) Δ ≥ 5, G has no adjacent triangles and G has no k-cycles for some integer k ∈ {5, 6}.  相似文献

Let S(r) denote a circle of circumference r. The circular consecutive choosability chcc(G) of a graph G is the least real number t such that for any r≥χc(G), if each vertex v is assigned a closed interval L(v) of length t on S(r), then there is a circular r‐coloring f of G such that f(v)∈L(v). We investigate, for a graph, the relations between its circular consecutive choosability and choosability. It is proved that for any positive integer k, if a graph G is k‐choosable, then chcc(G)?k + 1 ? 1/k; moreover, the bound is sharp for k≥3. For k = 2, it is proved that if G is 2‐choosable then chcc(G)?2, while the equality holds if and only if G contains a cycle. In addition, we prove that there exist circular consecutive 2‐choosable graphs which are not 2‐choosable. In particular, it is shown that chcc(G) = 2 holds for all cycles and for K2, n with n≥2. On the other hand, we prove that chcc(G)>2 holds for many generalized theta graphs. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory 67: 178‐197, 2011  相似文献

A proper total coloring of a graph G such that there are at least 4 colors on those vertices and edges incident with a cycle of G, is called acyclic total coloring. The acyclic total chromatic number of G is the least number of colors in an acyclic total coloring of G. In this paper, it is proved that the acyclic total chromatic number of a planar graph G of maximum degree at least k and without l cycles is at most Δ(G) + 2 if (k, l) ∈ {(6, 3), (7, 4), (6, 5), (7, 6)}.  相似文献
