This article presents an investigation of heat transfer in a porous medium adjacent to a vertical plate. The porous medium is subjected to a magnetohydrodynamic effect and suction velocity. The governing equations are nondepersonalized and converted into ordinary differential equations. The resulting equations are solved with the help of the finite difference method. The impact of various parameters, such as the Prandtl number, Grashof number, permeability parameter, radiation parameter, Eckert number, viscous dissipation parameter, and magnetic parameter, on fluid flow characteristics inside the porous medium is discussed. Entropy generation in the medium is analyzed with respect to various parameters, including the Brinkman number and Reynolds number. It is noted that the velocity profile decreases in magnitude with respect to the Prandtl number, but increases with the radiation parameter. The Eckert number has a marginal effect on the velocity profile. An increased radiation effect leads to a reduced thermal gradient at the hot surface.  相似文献

The paper presents an investigation of the influence of thermophoresis on MHD mixed convective heat and mass transfer of a viscous, incompressible and electrically conducting fluid along a vertical flat plate with radiation effects. The plate is permeable and embedded in a porous medium. To describe the deviation from the Darcy model the Forchheimer flow model is used. The Rosseland approximation is used to describe the radiative heat flux in the energy equation. The governing partial differential equations are transformed into a system of ordinary differential equations using similarity transformation. The nonlinear ordinary differential equations are linearized by using quasilinearization technique and then solved numerically by using implicit finite difference scheme. The numerical results are analyzed for the effects of various physical parameters such as magnetic parameter Ha, mixed convection parameter Ra d /Pe d , Reynolds number Red, radiation parameter R, thermophoretic parameter τ, Prandtl number Pr, and Schmidt number Sc. The heat transfer coefficient is also tabulated for different values of physical parameters.  相似文献

In this study, the effects of variable fluid properties on heat transfer in MHD Casson fluid melts over a moving surface in a porous medium in the presence of the radiation are examined. The relevant similarity transformations are used to reduce the governing equations into a system of highly nonlinear ordinary differential equations and those are then solved numerically using the Runge–Kutta–Fehlbergmethod. The effects of different controlling parameters, namely, the Casson parameter, melting and radiation parameters, Prandtl number, magnetic field, porosity, viscosity and the thermal conductivity parameters on flow and heat transfer are investigated. The numerical results for the dimensionless velocity and temperature as well as friction factor and reducedNusselt number are presented graphically and discussed. It is found that the rate of heat transfer increases as the Casson parameter increases.  相似文献

The present note deals with the effects of radiative heat transfer and free convection in MHD for a flow of an electrically conducting, incompressible, dusty viscous fluid past an impulsively started vertical non-conducting plate, under the influence of transversely applied magnetic field. The heat due to viscous dissipation and induced magnetic field is assumed to be negligible. The governing linear partial differential equations are solved by finite difference technique. The effects of various parameters (like radiation parameter N, Prandtl number Pr, porosity parameter K) entering into the MHD Stokes problem for flow of dusty conducting fluid have been examined on the temperature field and velocity profile for both the dusty fluid and dust particles.  相似文献

The present study investigates a Casson fluid flow in the presence of free convection of combined heat and mass transfer toward an unsteady permeable stretching sheet with thermal radiation, viscous dissipation and chemical reaction. The governing partial differential equations are reduced to a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations and then solved by an efficient Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg method. The dimensionless velocity is decreased by increasing values of the chemical reaction and magnetic parameter while fluid temperature is significantly reduced by increasing values of the Prandtl number. The heat transfer rate is reduced with increasing values of thermal radiation and magnetic parameters.  相似文献

The current study centralizes on unsteady free convection slip flow of Casson fluid past a vertical permeable plate with Hall current, radiative heat flux, and variable suction. The nonlinear convection is subjected to quartic order. Perturbation method is used to convert the non-linear coupled partial differential equation of the momentum and energy to a system of ordinary differential equations. The dimensionless governing equations are solved analytically for velocity and temperature profiles. The graphs are plotted for sundry parameters for variations in the distinct flow fields w.r.t distance from the plate. Variation in the skin friction for the axial and transverse cases are presented in the form of graphs for various parameters. It is observed that with the increase in the order of non-linear convection and value of radiation parameter, the velocity field increases in Casson fluid. The increase in heat absorption parameter and Prandtl number decreases the temperature profile and increase in radiative heat flux parameter increases the temperature profile.  相似文献

The current investigation highlights the mixed convection slip flow and radiative heat transport of uniformly electrically conducting Williamson nanofluid yield by an inclined circular cylinder in the presence of Brownian motion and thermophoresis parameter.A Lorentzian magnetic body force model is employed and magnetic induction effects are neglected. The governing equations are reduced to a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations with associated boundary conditions by applying scaling group transformations. The reduced nonlinear ordinary differential equations are then solved numerically by Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg fifth-order method with shooting technique. The effects of magnetic field,Prandtl number, mixed convection parameter, buoyancy ratio parameter,Brownian motion parameter, thermophoresis parameter, heat generation/absorption parameter, mass transfer parameter, radiation parameter and Schmidt number on the skin friction coefficient and local Nusselt are analyzed and discussed. It is found that the velocity of the fluid decreases with decrease in curvature parameter, whereas it increases with mixed convection parameter.Further, the local Nusselt number decreases with an increase in the radiation parameter. The numerical comparison is also presented with the existing published results and found that the present results are in excellent agreement which also confirms the validity of the present methodology.  相似文献

The effects of thermal radiation on the MHD flow over a vertical and porous plate of an optically thin gray, electrically conducting, viscous and incompressible fluid are studied. The differential equations and their boundary conditions, describing the problemunder consideration, are dimensionalized and the numerical solution is obtained. The numerical results for the velocity and temperature profiles are shown for different dimensionless parameters entering the problem under consideration, such as the radiation parameter S, Grashof number G, Prandtl number P, and the magnetic parameter M.  相似文献

Magnetohydrodynamics flow of a visco-elastic incompressible fluid (Walter’s B′ model) past an infinite porous plate in porous medium under the action of transverse uniform magnetic field in the presence of heat source and chemical reaction is investigated. The governing equations of the motion, energy and concentration are solved by a successive perturbation technique. The flow phenomenon is characterized by suction parameter, magnetic parameter, porosity parameter, Grashoff number, modified Grashoff number, Prandtl number, heat source parameter, chemical reaction parameter and Schmidt number. The expressions for skin friction coefficient, Nusselt number, and Sherwood number on the surface are also discussed.  相似文献

A steady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow past a radially stretching or shrinking disk is investigated. The governing partial differential equations are transformed into a set of ordinary (similarity) differential equations by a similarity transformation. These equations along with the corresponding boundary conditions are solved numerically using the boundary value problem solver (bvp4c) in Matlab. The effects of magnetic field and suction on the shear stress and the heat transfer are analyzed and discussed. It is found that both parameters affect more in the shrinking region. The increase in the magnetic parameter results in the increase of the skin friction coefficient but decrease in the local Nusselt number. The skin friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number increase as suction increases.  相似文献

This paper investigates combined heat and mass transfer by mixed magneto-convective flow of an electrically conducting flow along a moving radiating vertical flat plate with hydrodynamic slip and thermal convective boundary conditions. The governing transport equations are converted into a system of coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations with prescribed boundary conditions using similarity variables developed by Lie group theory. The transformed nondimensional boundary value problem is then solved numerically with MAPLE13 quadrature. Excellent correlation with previous nonmagnetic, no-slip studies is achieved. Surface shear stress function and local Nusselt number (heat transfer gradient at the wall) are increased with Richardson number, whereas local Sherwood number is found to initially decrease then subsequently increase. The “thermally thick” scenario (Biot number > 0.1) is investigated and increasing Biot number is observed to enhance shear stress function (skin friction), local Nusselt number, and local Sherwood number. Increasing thermal radiation flux increases thermal boundary layer thickness as does increasing the magnetic field effect. Increasing hydrodynamic slip parameter reduces skin friction but enhances local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers. The study has applications in high-temperature polymeric synthesis and magnetic field flow control.  相似文献

An analysis is made to study the three-dimensional MHD free convection flow in a vertical channel through a porous medium with heat source and chemical reaction. The flow phenomenon is characterized by magnetic parameters (M), Darcy number (K p ), Reynolds number (R e ), source parameter (S), Grashof number for heat transfer (G r ), Grashof number for mass transfer (G c ), Prandtl number (P r ), Schmidt number (S c ), and chemical reaction parameter (K c ). Approximate solutions of the velocity, temperature, and concentration are obtained using a perturbation technique. The effect of these parameters on the velocity, temperature and concentrations distribution is discussed and some interesting results are presented.  相似文献

A numerical investigation is performed to study the MHD free convection flow past a semi-infinite inclined plate subjected to a variable surface temperature. The Joule heating and viscous dissipation effects are taken into account in the energy equation. The governing equations of the flow are transformed into a nondimensional form using suitable dimensionless quantities. A fully developed implicit finite-difference scheme of Crank-Nicolson type is engaged to solve the dimensionless governing equations, which is more accurate, fast convergent, and unconditionally stable. The effects of the MHD, inclination angle, power law, Grashof number, Prandtl number, Joule heating, and viscous dissipation effects are studied on the velocity, temperature, shear stress, and heat transfer coefficients during transient periods. It is observed that the MHD has retarding effects on velocity.  相似文献

The present article provides an analytical solution of nonlinear heat transfer of an electrically conducting Couple stress liquid under a magnetic field modulation with an internal heat source. A weakly nonlinear theory is used to obtain the rate of heat transfer concerning the Nusselt number. A cubic Landau equation is derived in terms of amplitude of convection and solved by using Mathematica 8 software. The effect of various system parameters are obtained on nonlinear heat transfer which is discussed in detail by graphically. The Prandtl number, internal Rayleigh number, Couple stress parameter and magnetic Prandtl number destabilize the system while Chandrasekhar number has stabilizing effect. Hence, Couple stress parameter and internal Rayleigh number increase the rate of heat transfer.  相似文献

By using the effect of Cattaneo-Christov heat flux model, heat transfer analysis is illustrated. Using similarity transformation the governing partial differential equations are transferred into a system of ordinary differential equations that are solved numerically by applying Nachtsheim-Swigert shooting iteration technique along with the 6-th order Runge-Kutta integration scheme. The aim of this paper is the investigation of heat transfer regarding the cases of both stretching and shrinking sheets with a sponge-like horizontal wall that allows for mass transpiration. The effects of Prandtl number, radiation and external magnetic field are extensively examined. The Navier-Stokes equations are reduced to partial differential equations, which are eventually become ordinary differential equations and solved analytically. Furthermore, the power-law wall temperature and heat flux boundary conditions are imposed on the boundary layer energy equation for obtaining exact analytical solutions. The results revealed that in both the stretching and shrinking sheet scenarios the thickness of the thermal boundary layer decreases with either increasing of transpiration as well as the Chandrasekhar and Prandtl number numbers or decreasing radiation number. Additionally, the characteristics of the heat transfer regarding a shrinking sheet and those of a stretching sheet are found not to be similar. In fact, a new solution branch appeared which indicates that multiple solutions may emerge under certain circumstances. Finally, by using the present analytical relationships, theoretical guidelines can be given for regulating the procedure.  相似文献

The unsteady stagnation point flow impinging obliquely on a flat plate in presence of a uniform applied magnetic field due to an oscillating stream has been studied. The governing partial differential equations are transformed into dimensionless form and the stream function is expressed in terms of Hiemenz and tangential components. The dimensionless partial differential equations are solved numerically by using well-known implicit finite difference scheme named as Keller-box method. The obtained results are compared with those available in the literature. It is observed that the results are in excellent agreement with the previous studies. The effects of pertinent parameters involved in the problem namely magnetic parameter, Prandtl number and impinging angle on flow and heat transfer characteristics are illustrated through graphs. It is observed that the influence of magnetic field strength increases the fluid velocity and by the increase of obliqueness parameter, the skin friction increases.  相似文献

The current mathematical model explains the influence of non-linear thermal radiation on the Casson liquid flow over a moving thin needle by considering Buongiorno's nanofluid model. The influences of Stefan blowing, Dufour and Soret effects are also considered in the model. The equations which represent the described flow pattern are reduced to ordinary differential equations(ODEs) by using apt similarity transformations and then they are numerically solved with Runge–Kutta-Fehlberg's fourth fifth-order method(RKF-45) with shooting process. The impacts of pertinent parameters on thermal, mass and velocity curves are deliberated graphically.Skin friction, rate of heat and mass transfer are also discussed graphically. Results reveal that, the increase in values of Brownian motion, thermophoresis, Dufour number, heating and radiative parameters improves the heat transfer. The increasing values of the Schmidt number deteriorates the mass transfer but a converse trend is seen for increasing values of the Soret number. Finally, the escalating values of the radiative parameter decays the rate of heat transfer.  相似文献

The magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) stagnation point flow of Casson nanofluid over a nonlinear stretching sheet in the presence of velocity slip and convective boundary condition is examined. In this analysis, various effects such as velocity ratio, viscous dissipation, heat generation/absorption and chemical reaction are accentuated. Possessions of Brownian motion and thermophoresis are also depicted in this study. A uniform magnetic field as well as suction is taken into account. Suitable similarity transformations are availed to convert the governing nonlinear partial differential equations to a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations and then series solutions are secured using a homotopy analysis method (HAM). Notable accuracy of the present results has been obtained with the earlier results. Impact of distinct parameters on velocity, temperature, concentration, skin friction coefficient,Nusselt number and Sherwood number is canvassed through graphs and tabular forms.  相似文献
