A new isoquinolinequinone antibiotic, mimocin(2), has been isolated from the strain of Streptomyces lavendulae. The structure of mimocin has been deduced from mass and PMR spectral data and confirmed by its synthesis.     

Structure determination of purpuromycin,a new antibiotic

From a culture broth of Actinoplanes ianthinogenes a red crystalline product was isolated displaying activity against bacteria and fungi. The structure of the new antibiotic, named purpuromycin, was established on the basis of chemico-physical evidences and chemical degradations. The product resulted to be structurally related to rubromycins, a group of antibiotics previously isolated from Streptomyces collinus.

Uncialamycin, a new enediyne antibiotic

[structure: see text] Laboratory cultures of an undescribed streptomycete obtained from the surface of a British Columbia lichen produce uncialamycin (1), a new enediyne antibiotic. The structure of uncialamycin (1) has been elucidated by analysis of spectroscopic data. Uncialamycin (1) exhibits potent in vitro antibacterial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative human pathogens, including Burkholderia cepacia, a major cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with cystic fibrosis.     

Structure of herbimycin A new ansamycin antibiotic

Herbimycin is a new potent herbicidal antibiotic¹⁾ isolated from the cultured filtrate of Streptomyces (Sm.) hygroscopicus AM-3672. We assign structure $\text{1}$ to herbimycin based on ¹H- and ¹³C-nmr spectral analyses and biosynthetic means using ¹³C-labeled precursors.     

Structure of a dimeric piperidone-aldehyde condensation product

The base-catalyzed condensation of benzaldehyde with 1-methyl-4-piperidone (5) gave two isomeric products which were dimers of 3-benzylidene-1-methyl-4-piperidone (7). Reactions of the dimers and their mass spectral data are examined on the basis of the X-ray structural analysis of the dibromo derivative of the dimer which was identified as 4-p-bromobenzylidene-9-p-bromophenyl-10a-hydroxy-2,7-dimethyl-2,7-diaza-10-oxa-1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,8a,10a,-decahydroanthracene (10b).     

Structure determination of lavendamycin- a new antitumor antibiotic from streptomyces lavendulae

The structure elucidation of lavendamycin (1a), a new antitumor antibiotic related to streptonigrin (2) is described. The NMR spectra of 1a and several model compounds 3,4 < and 5a-b are also discussed.
