The gas-phase ion chemistry of propyne-phosphine and silane-propyne-phosphine mixtures was studied by ion trap mass spectrometry. For the binary mixture, the effect of different partial pressures of the reagents on the yield of C and P-containing ions was evaluated. Reaction sequences and rate constants were determined and reaction efficiencies were calculated from comparison of experimental and collisional rate constants. In the ternary silane-propyne-phosphine systems, the reaction pathways leading to formation of Si(m)C(n)P(p)H(q) (+) ions were determined and the rate constants of the most important steps were measured. For some ion species, selected by double isolation procedures (MS/MS), the low ion abundances prevented determination of the reaction rate constants. Si, C and P-containing ions are mainly produced in reactions of Si(m)P(p)H(q) (+) ions with propyne, while the reactivity of the Si(m)C(n)H(q) (+) ions towards PH(3) and of the C(n)P(p)H(q) (+) ions towards SiH(4) is very low. The formation of hydrogenated Si--C--P ions is interesting for their possible role as precursors of amorphous silicon carbides doped with phosphorus, obtained in a single step, by deposition from properly activated silane-propyne-phosphine mixtures.  相似文献

Propene-phosphine and the silane-propene-phosphine gaseous mixtures were studied by ion trap mass spectrometry. For the binary mixture the variation of ion abundances under different partial pressures and the mechanisms of ion-molecule reactions are reported. Moreover, the rate constants of the main processes were measured and compared with the collisional rate constants to determine the reaction efficiencies. In the ternary silane-propene-phosphine mixture the mechanisms of formation of Si(m)C(n)P(p)H(+)(s) ion clusters were elucidated, but the complexity of the system and the low abundances of the ions usually isolated by successive steps prevented the determination of rate constants. The hydrogenated ternary ions are mainly formed by reactions of Si(r)P(s)H(+)(t) ions with propene, whereas a minor contribution comes from reactions of Si(m)C(n)H(+)(p) ions with phosphine. The C(v)P(w)H(+)(z) ions show very low reactivity with silane. The formation processes of these species are discussed in relation to their possible role as precursors of amorphous silicon carbides doped with phosphorus obtained by deposition from properly activated silane-propene-phosphine mixtures.  相似文献

The gas-phase ion chemistry of silane-allene-ammonia, germane-allene (or propyne)-ammonia (or phosphine) systems was studied by ion trap mass spectrometry. Reaction sequences were determined and rate constants were measured for the main processes observed. The mixture containing silane displays higher reactivity with respect to that with germane. Comparison with analogous systems provides useful information about the reactivity of different hydrocarbon molecules and the different affinities of silicon and germanium towards nitrogen and phosphorus. The most interesting product ions observed are those containing Si (or Ge), C and N (or P) elements together, as these ion species may be considered precursors of doped amorphous carbides, which are widely used in semiconductor devices.  相似文献

Germane-propane and germane-propene gaseous mixtures were studied by ion trap mass spectrometry. Variations of ion abundances observed under different partial pressure ratios and mechanisms of ion-molecule reactions elucidated by multiple isolation steps are reported. In addition, the rate constants for the main reactions were experimentally determined and compared with the collisional rate constants to obtain the reaction efficiencies. The yield of ions containing both Ge and C atoms is higher in the germane-propene than in the germane-propane system. In the former mixture, chain propagation takes place starting from germane ions reacting with propene and proceeds with the formation of clusters such as Ge(2)C(4)H(n) (+) and Ge(3)CH(n) (+).  相似文献

The gas-phase ion chemistry of GeF(4) and of its mixtures with water, ammonia and hydrocarbons was investigated by ion trap mass spectrometry (ITMS) and ab initio calculations. Under ITMS conditions, the only fragment detected from ionized GeF(4) is GeF(3)(+). This cation is a strong Lewis acid, able to react with H(2)O, NH(3) and the unsaturated C(2)H(2), C(2)H(4) and C(6)H(6) by addition-HF elimination reactions to form F(2)Ge(XH)(+), FGe(XH)(2)(+), Ge(XH)(3)(+) (X = OH or NH(2)), F(2)GeC(2)H(+), F(2)GeC(2)H(3)(+) and F(2)GeC(6)H(5)(+). The structure, stability and thermochemistry of these products and the mechanistic aspects of the exemplary reactions of GeF(3)(+) with H(2)O, NH(3) and C(6)H(6) were investigated by MP2 and coupled cluster calculations. The experimental proton affinity (PA) and gas basicity (GB) of GeF(4) were estimated as 121.5 ± 6.0 and 117.1 ± 6.0 kcal mol(-1), respectively, and GeF(4)H(+) was theoretically characterized as an ion-dipole complex between GeF(3)(+) and HF. Consistently, it reacts with simple inorganic and organic molecules to form GeF(3)(+)-L complexes (L = H(2)O, NH(3), C(2)H(2), C(2)H(4), C(6)H(6), CO(2), SO(2) and GeF(4)). The theoretical investigation of the stability of these ions with respect to GeF(3)(+) and L disclosed nearly linear correlations between their dissociation enthalpies and free energies and the PA and GB of L. Comparing the behavior of GeF(3)(+) with the previously investigated CF(3)(+) and SiF(3)(+) revealed a periodically reversed order of reactivity CF(3)(+) < GeF(3)(+) < SiF(3)(+). This parallels the order of the Lewis acidities of the three cations.  相似文献

The gas phase ion chemistry of silane/hydrogen sulfide and germane/hydrogen sulfide mixtures was studied by ion trap mass spectrometry (ITMS), in both positive and negative ionization mode. In positive ionization, formation of X/S (X = Si, Ge) mixed ions mainly takes place via reactions of silane or germane ions with H2S, through condensation followed by dehydrogenation. This is particularly evident in the system with silane. On the other side, reactions of HnS2+ ions with XH4 (X = Si, Ge) invariably lead to formation of a single X? S bond. In negative ionization, a more limited number of mixed ion species is detected, but their overall abundance reaches appreciable values, especially in the SiH4/H2S system. Present results clearly indicate that ion processes play an important role in formation and growth of clusters eventually leading to deposition of amorphous solids in chemical vapor deposition (CVD) processes. Collision-induced dissociation (CID) of 8-(4'-hydroxyphenyl)-2'-deoxyguanosine and 8-(2'-hydroxyphenyl)-2'-deoxyguanosine was investigated using sequential tandem mass spectrometry. These adducts represent biomarkers of DNA damage linked to phenolic radicals and were investigated to gain insight into the effects of chemical structure of a C-8 modification on fragmentation pathways of modified 2'-deoxyguanosine (dG). CID in MS(2) of the deprotonated molecules of both the isomers generated the same product ion having the same m/z values. CID in MS(3) of the product ion at m/z 242 and CID in MS(4) experiments carried out on the selected product ions at m/z 225 and m/z 218 afford distinct fragmentation patterns. The conformational properties of isomeric product ions from CID showed that the ortho-isomers possess the unique ability to tautomerize through an intramolecular proton transfer between the phenolic OH group and the imine nitrogen (N7). Tautomerization of ortho-isomers to their keto-tautomers led to differences in their system of conjugated double bonds compared with either their enol-tautomer or the para-isomer. The charge redistribution through the N-7 site on the imidazole ring is a critical step in guanosine adduct fragmentation which is disrupted by the formation of the keto-tautomer. For this reason, different reaction pathways are observed for 8-(4'-hydroxyphenyl)-2'-deoxyguanosine and 8-(2'-hydroxyphenyl)-2'-deoxyguanosine. We present herein the dissociation and the gas-phase ion-molecule reactions for highly conjugated ions involved in the CID ion chemistry of the investigated adducts. These will be useful for those using tandem mass spectrometry for structural elucidation of C-8 modified dG adducts. This study demonstrates that the modification at the C-8 site of dG has the potential to significantly alter the reactivity of adducts. We also show the ability of tandem mass spectrometry to completely differentiate between the isomeric dG adducts investigated.  相似文献

With the recent trend towards mass spectrometer miniaturization, the fabrication of mass analyzers and other ion optical components is being performed at scales where critical dimensions range from several millimeters to several micrometers. Depending on the sizes of the objects and the nature of the fabrication method used, electrode surface roughness can become non‐negligible and affect the analytical performance of the mass analyzer. In this work, a method of characterizing surface roughness is introduced through the concept of spatial roughness frequency. The roughness of a given surface is quantitatively described using spatial roughness components at a series of frequencies and with characteristic intensities. Based on this concept, an analytical method has been developed to describe the electromagnetic field inside an electrode assembly including consideration for the electrode roughness. The methodology is applied in simplified form to cylindrical and rectilinear ion trap analyzers. Four types of surface finishes were applied to ion trap electrodes of various sizes to illustrate the surface roughness effects on the high‐order fields and to compare the analytical performance of the ion traps. Application of this method to arrays of large numbers of micro‐scale ion traps has enabled the impact of fabrication methodology to be evaluated in terms of mass resolution for the ion trap arrays. The ion-molecule reactions occurring in GeH(4)/NF(3), GeH(4)/SF(6), and GeH(4)/SiF(4) gaseous mixtures have been investigated by ion trap mass spectrometry and ab initio calculations. While the NF(x)(+) (x=1-3) react with GeH(4) mainly by the exothermic charge transfer, the open-shell Ge(+) and GeH(2)(+) undergo the efficient F-atom abstraction from NF(3) and form GeF(+) and F-GeH(2)(+) as the only ionic products. The mechanisms of these two processes are quite similar and involve the formation of the fluorine-coordinated complexes Ge-F-NF(2)(+) and H(2)Ge-F-NF(2)(+), their subsequent crossing to the significantly more stable isomers FGe-NF(2)(+) and F-GeH(2)-NF(2)(+), and the eventual dissociation of these ions into GeF(+) (or F-GeH(2)(+)) and NF(2). The closed-shell GeH(+) and GeH(3)(+) are instead much less reactive towards NF(3), and the only observed process is the less efficient formation of GeF(+) from GeH(+). The theoretical investigation of this unusual H/F exchange reaction suggests the involvement of vibrationally-hot GeH(+). Passing from NF(3) to SF(6) and SiF(4), the average strength of the M-F bond increases from 70 to 79 and 142 kcal mol(-1), and in fact the only process observed by reacting GeH(n)(+) (n=0-3) with SF(6) and SiF(4) is the little efficient F-atom abstraction from SF(6) by Ge(+). Irrespective of the experimental conditions, we did not observe any ionic product of Ge-N, Ge-S, or Ge-Si connectivity. This is in line with the previously observed exclusive formation of GeF(+) from the reaction between Ge(+) and C-F compounds such as CH(3)F. Additionally observed processes include in particular the conceivable formation of the elusive thiohypofluorous acid FSH from the reaction between SF(+) and GeH(4).  相似文献

Due to the varying toxicity the species of organotins in their widespread applications, it is important for analytical methods to address their speciation. Traditional methods call for the hydrolysis and subsequent derivatization of the organotins before analysis. These methods can be time‐consuming, derivatization can be incomplete and high levels of background interference produce difficulties in identification and quantification. The use is described of a non‐derivatization and non‐hydrolysis micro‐liquid chromatography–electrospray/ion trap mass spectrometry for separation and detection of the organotins. A comprehensive study on the fragmentation pattern of the antimicrobial growth promoter avilamycin A was conducted in a quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometer equipped with an electrospray ionization (ESI) source. Performing multiple-stage experiments on the deprotonated molecule (m/z 1401) and its principal product ions showed that a sequential shortening of the oligosaccharide backbone took place, which can be attributed to the localization of the negative charge in the terminal dichloroisoeverninic acid. Under (+)-ESI conditions, avilamycin A readily formed an intense sodium-cationized molecule, [M + Na](+) (m/z 1425). Structural elucidation of the second-, third- and fourth-generation fragment ions revealed that all of the structures shared a common molecular portion comprising a central monosaccharide. This observation allowed us to assign confidently the complexation site of the alkali metal cation. In addition to the monosodiated molecule, the full-scan mass spectral acquisition also yielded a less abundant disodiated molecule, [M - H + 2Na](+) (m/z 1447). Multiple-stage experiments on this ion indicated that the second sodium ion compensates for the negative charge located at either of two positions within the molecule. While deprotonation of the phenolic hydroxyl group in the dichloroisoeverninic acid moiety was suggested to be driven by charge stabilization in the aromatic ring (in analogy with the deprotonated molecule in the (-)-ESI mode), the deprotonation at an alpha-carbon of an ester side-chain substituent in the oligosaccharide part was believed to provide a stable chelation-like coordination site for the cation.  相似文献

从理论上讲, 离子阱质谱仪的性能是由阱内电场分布决定的,而电场分布又是由组成离子阱的电极几何结构和离子阱工作电压决定的. 对于矩形离子阱, 即使不考虑其几何结构的偏差, 其阱内的电场分布一般也很复杂. 在矩形离子阱内, 除四极电场外, 还包含多种成分的其他各种高阶场, 它们直接影响离子在阱内的运动轨迹和离子阱质谱的性能. 由于各种电场成分对离子阱内离子运动的影响非常复杂, 还很难从数学上给出精确的解析解, 使得目前从理论上还无法预测高阶场成分对质谱性能的影响. 本工作通过测定不同几何结构的矩形离子阱的稳定图, 从实验上比较了不同场半径, 即不同电场分布条件下的离子阱质谱性能的差别. 实验中, 通过改变离子阱的几何比例结构, 详细测定了不同结构的矩形离子阱的稳定图特征, 并与实验测得的质谱分析结果进行比较. 同时, 我们还详细介绍了矩形离子阱质谱的稳定图的测定方法, 并根据得到的不同情况下的稳定图结构分析了离子阱的质谱性能. 研究结果表明: 可以通过比较试验得到的稳定图结构来判断其离子阱质谱仪的性能如质量分辨能力等. 此外, 实验结果还发现: 对于y方向拉伸结构的矩形离子阱, 其实验绘制得到的是不完整的稳定图. 但根据稳定图边界的特点, 通过采用四极直流电压调制的方法, 可以对y方向拉伸结构的矩形离子阱的性能进行改善, 极大地提高了阱的质量分辨能力.  相似文献

Laser-ablation ion trap mass spectrometry (LA-ITMS) is applied for the analysis of rare-earth elements in soil samples. The target elements studied in this work were ytterbium (Yb) and samarium (Sm). The isotopic compositions of these elements were analyzed for standard samples with chip shape, the western phosphate rock sample (NIST SRM-694), and soil samples collected near our laboratory. For metal samples of Sm and Yb, isotopes of these elements as well as oxide forms were clearly identified. For the case of soil samples only a tentative assignment on the mass peaks were performed due to the complicated mass spectra that originated from the oxide forms of various rare-earth elements.  相似文献

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) exist as 209 congeners, consisting of biphenyl molecules, where the number and substitution positions of halogen atoms are known to affect industrial uses, environmental transport mechanisms, distribution, fate, and toxicity. The complexity of the problem requires accurate physicochemical studies of an increasing number of congeners in order to understand the environmental and biological processes at play. This work presents a systematic study on the thermodynamic and kinetic properties of PCBs by quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometry. A clear relationship between structure and behavior of PCBs in mass spectrometry experiments has been observed. Overall data demonstrate that di‐ortho congeners show lower thermodynamic stability and higher fragmentation rate than non/mono‐ortho. Congeners follow different fragmentation mechanisms according to the number of chlorine atoms in ortho position of the biphenyl system. Experimental kinetic curves of mono/non‐ortho and di‐ortho congeners show a strong similarity with classical first‐order kinetics curves; in particular, di‐ortho congeners follow a first‐order consecutive reaction, while mono/non‐ortho follow a first‐order parallel reaction. For each studied congener, the kinetic constant of reaction (fragmentation) has been determined. Data support environmental levels and biochemical transformations described in literature. The general picture of the PCB behavior inside a quadrupole ion trap provides the basis for the development of reliable and cost‐effective analytical methods to the determination of ultra‐low level trace of PCB congeners.  相似文献

A combined chemical ionisation and tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) approach has been used for investigation of the gas-phase ion chemistry of systems containing the amino acids Glu and Met, and the dipeptides gamma-Glu-Met and Met-Glu. The metastable fragmentation of the protonated dimer, (Glu)2H(+), reveals an intracluster reaction leading to the elimination of the Glu residue. The main features of the ion-molecule reactions observed in the systems containing Glu and Glu + Met can be described in terms of sequential adduct formation. The results obtained for the thermal dehydration of Glu were used to rationalise the formation of the proton-bound structures (Glu-H2O...H(+)...(Glu-H2O) and (Glu-H2O)3-H(+). The adduct ions, [(Glu-H2O) + H + Glu](+) and [(Glu-H2O) + H + Met](+), and further association products were also observed. The results lead to a reconsideration of the structural aspects proposed earlier for these species in the sense that they suggest that the systems correspond to a mixture of isomeric covalent and proton-bound structures. The thermal effects on the decomposition of the neutral (gamma-Glu-Met) and its protonated form, (gamma-Glu-Met)H(+), at m/z 279 were investigated, and dramatic changes in the MI spectra of the m/z 279 ion with temperature were found. A mechanistic explanation for the observed evolution of higher mass ion peaks in the mass spectra is developed.  相似文献

In a digital ion trap (DIT), the quadrupole trapping and excitation waveforms are generated by the rapid switching between discrete d.c. voltage levels. As the timing of the switch can be controlled precisely by digital circuitry, the approach provides an opportunity to generate mass spectra by means of a frequency scan in contrast to the conventional voltage scan, thus providing a wider mass range of analysis. An instrument has been constructed which employs a 'non-stretched' ion trap and the field fault around the aperture of the end-cap electrode can be corrected electronically using a field-adjusting electrode. The ion trap was coupled with electrospray ionization (ESI) and atmospheric pressure matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (AP-MALDI) sources to demonstrate the capability of the digital method. AP-MALDI mass spectra of singly charged ions with mass-to-charge ratios upto 17 000 Th were generated using a trapping voltage of only 1000 V. Forward and reverse mass scans at resolutions up to 19 000 and precursor ion isolation at resolutions up to 3500 with subsequent tandem mass spectrometric analysis were demonstrated. The method of generating the digital waveforms and period scan is described. Discussion of the issues of mass range, scan speed, ion trapping efficiency and collision-induced dissociation efficiency are also provided.  相似文献
