We report on efficient intracavity frequency doubling of a cw diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser on the (4)F(3/2)?(4)I(9/2) laser transition at 946 nm. The nonlinear crystal used in the experiments was a first-order quasi-phase-matched flux-grown KTiOPO(4) crystal (period, 6.09mum ; thickness, 1 mm; length, 9 mm). The fluctuations in the generated second-harmonic wave were lower than 3% at output powers of as much as 500 mW. The overall optical-to-optical efficiency was 5.7%. A maximum output power of 740 mW of blue light was generated, which was stable for only 0.5 min. The decrease the output power at this power level was attributed to heating and thermal lensing in the periodically poled KTiOPO(4) crystal. The short-term behavior of the second-harmonic wave exhibited switching between a cw mode and chaotic intensity fluctuations.  相似文献

We observed backward second-harmonic and backward third-harmonic generation in a periodically poled KTiOPO(4) waveguide using nanosecond laser pulses. The highest conversion efficiency achieved for the backward second-harmonic generation, occurring at the 25th-order grating, was ~0.6% . The backward third-harmonic generation was the result of mixing the pump beam with the forward or the backward second-harmonic beam. Conversion efficiency of ~0.4% was achieved at a pump wavelength of 1233.7 nm, where the two constituent nonlinear processes are both quasi-phase matched.  相似文献

Frequency doubling in periodically poled KTiOPO(4) excited by the Bessel-like distribution of the fundamental radiation has been investigated. Theoretical analysis and experiments show that the use of noncollinear geometry provides new possibilities for engineering nonlinear interactions in periodically poled crystals. We demonstrate conversion of the ring-shaped fundamental mode to the axial second-harmonic beam with 30% efficiency for 220-muJ Q -switched Nd:YAG pulses.  相似文献

Efficient simultaneous intracavity second-harmonic and sum-frequency generation that is free from irregular large amplitude fluctuations (the so-called green problem) is achieved with a laser-diode-pumped LiNdP(4) O(12) (LNP) laser with a type II phase-matching KTiOPO(4) crystal. Observed frequency-mixing operations result from the simultaneous single-frequency oscillations on different transitions that arise from the wide fluorescence linewidth in a stoichiometric LNP laser that possesses inherently high Nd concentrations. Sum-frequency generation has been shown to arise from the interaction of oscillating longitudinal modes that belong to different transitions. A promising application to coherent terahertz-wave radiation by use of photomixers is proposed.  相似文献

Among nonlinear materials, the organic ionic salt crystal 4-dimethylamino- N -methyl-4-stilbazolium-tosylate (DAST) is known for its large nonlinearity. We generated a coherent terahertz (THz) wave, using DAST, from the difference frequency between two oscillating wavelengths of an electronically tuned Ti:sapphire laser. In LiNbO(3), LiTaO(3), KTiOPO(4), and GaP crystals, THz-wave generation was not observed under the same experimental conditions. This result proves the high efficiency of DAST crystals for generation of difference-frequency THz waves.  相似文献

Coherent second-order nonlinear optical processes are symmetry forbidden in centrosymmetric environments in the electric-dipole approximation. In liquids that contain chiral molecules, however, and which therefore lack mirror image symmetry, coherent sum-frequency generation is possible, whereas second-harmonic generation remains forbidden. Here we apply the theory of molecular quantum electrodynamics to the calculation of the matrix element, transition rate, and integrated signal intensity for sum-frequency and second-harmonic generation taking place in a chiral liquid in the presence and absence of a static electric field, to examine which coherent and incoherent processes exist in the electric-dipole approximation in liquids. Third- and fourth-order time-dependent perturbation theory is employed in combination with single-sided Feynman diagrams to evaluate two contributions arising from static field-free and field-induced processes. It is found that, in addition to the coherent term, an incoherent process exists for sum-frequency generation in liquids. Surprisingly, in the case of dc-field-induced second-harmonic generation, the incoherent contribution is found to always vanish for isotropic chiral liquids even though hyper-Rayleigh second-harmonic generation and electric-field-induced second-harmonic generation are both independently symmetry allowed in any liquid.  相似文献

In this work, we propose a new scheme to generate frequency-doubled vortex beams from a radially poled Li Nb O3 micro-ring resonator based on nonlinear Cherenkov radiation. The near-infrared fundamental wave is resonant in the micro-ring, while the second harmonic is emitted from the resonator along the Cherenkov phase-matching direction. The topological charge of the emitted second-harmonic vortex beam is determined by both the azimuthal order of the whispering galley modes and the number of nonlinear grating elements. The field distribution and the conversion efficiency of the emitted vortex beam are investigated.  相似文献

We report both extracavity and intracavity simultaneous second-harmonic generation and compression of pulses at 1.25 mum from a synchronously pumped RbTiOAsO(4) -based optical parametric oscillator, using an aperiodically poled crystal of KTiOPO(4) . The 290-fs input pulses were temporally compressed to 120 fs, with average output powers as great as 120 mW. The experimental results are compared with a numerical model that uses data obtained by characterization of the input pulses by use of the frequency-resolved optical gating technique.  相似文献

We study the second-harmonic generation via transversely matched interaction of two counterpropagating ultrashort pulses in chi(2) photonic structures. We show that the emitted second-harmonic wave attains the form of spatially expanding toroid with the initial thickness given by the cross correlation of the pulses. We demonstrate the formation of such toroidal waves in crystals with random ferroelectric domains as well as in annularly poled nonlinear photonic structures.  相似文献

A partly periodically poled KTiOPO(4) (KTP) crystal has been designed to integrate quasi-phase-matched second-harmonic generation (QPM SHG) with sum-frequency generation in one crystal for generating a third-harmonic beam. The highest conversion efficiencies of 45% and 3% have been achieved in our experiments for QPM SHG and third-harmonic generation, respectively, by use of picosecond laser pulses at 1.327 microm . We have also discovered that periodically poled KTP has slightly different indices (n(z)) from bulk KTP.  相似文献

We have achieved effective third-harmonic generation (THG) by cascading second-harmonic and sum-frequency generation in a single cerium-doped KTiOPO (4) crystal by using femtosecond laser pulses at 1.32 microm. A conversion efficiency of 0.17% was achieved with an average pump power of 35 mW.Furthermore, a unique quadratic power dependence for this type of THG was confirmed. We developed a theory and obtained an analytical solution for the THG.The solution exactly describes the measured characteristics of the THG.  相似文献

Intracavity second-harmonic generation of a diode-pumped Nd:YLiF(4) ring laser oscillating on the sigma-polarized (4)F(3/2) - (4)I(13/2) transition (lambda(omega) ~ 1314 nm) with a temperature-tuned periodically poled KTiOPO(4) (ppKTP) crystal is reported, yielding up to 0.92 W tunable (lambda(2omega) = 656-658 nm) single-frequency output. Evidence of self-mode-locking via cascading nonlinearities is observed when the ppKTP is strongly phase mismatched.  相似文献

We study experimentally and theoretically the ?erenkov-type second-harmonic generation in a one-dimensional nonlinear photonic crystal. We demonstrate that the power of emitted second-harmonic can be enhanced 270 times by varying the angle of incidence of the fundamental beam such that the reciprocal lattice vector of the crystal can be used to compensate for the phase mismatch in the transverse direction enabling interaction in the nonlinear Bragg diffraction regime.  相似文献

We report simultaneous generation of multiple conical second-harmonic waves in a two-dimensional nonlinear photonic structure when illuminated by two overlapping noncollinear fundamental beams. We show that this phenomenon is caused by the nonlinear ?erenkov radiation emitted due to the interaction of photons from each constituent fundamental beam as well as the virtual one propagating along the bisector of the two beams. In addition, by studying the asymmetric geometry of the interaction, we uniquely verify the effects of reciprocal vectors on the ?erenkov-type second-harmonic generation in nonlinear photonic structures.  相似文献

We provide experimental evidence of higher multipole (magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole) radiation in second-harmonic (SH) generation from arrays of metal nanoparticles. Fundamental differences in the radiative properties of electric dipoles and higher multipoles yield opposite interference effects observed in the SH intensities measured in the reflected and transmitted directions. These interference effects clearly depend on the polarization of the fundamental field, directly indicating the importance of multipole effects in the nonlinear response. We estimate that higher multipoles contribute up to 20% of the total emitted SH field amplitude for certain polarization configurations.  相似文献

Metallic nanostructures support extreme localization and enhancement of optical fields via surface-plasmon (SP) resonances. Although SP are associated with giant enhancements of nonlinear phenomena such as second-harmonic generation (SHG), the role of SP in the process, whether as a field-enhancing catalyst or as a quasiparticle converted in the interaction, has remained experimentally elusive. We demonstrate how k-space spectroscopy can distinguish between the plasmonic and photonic SHG processes that occur in a metal nanofilm when it is optically driven via the Kretschmann geometry. The results revealed a nonlinear interaction where two SP annihilate to create a second-harmonic photon. This knowledge has implications for realizing the inverse process, plasmonic parametric down-conversion, which could act as a coherent source of entangled SP pairs.  相似文献

High resolution field emission image of a single multi-walled carbon nanotube was studied by field emission microscopy. The images contain patterns consisting of rather ordered bright fringes. We propose a model based on coherent electron scattering to explain the observed field emission image. The emitted electrons will undergo coherent scattering within the cap region of a multi-wall carbon nanotube, which may be viewed as elastic scattering by a polycrystalline structure with an infinite size. This study is helpful for understanding the physical mechanism of field emission of carbon nanotube.  相似文献

We report on a new class of optical multidimensional Fourier-transform spectroscopy associated with a visible excitation-infrared emission configuration, in which the emitted field results from second-order optical nonlinearities. This configuration is demonstrated on a phase-matched sample of known nonlinear response by coherent measurement of the mid-infrared field emitted after a femtosecond visible double-pulse excitation.  相似文献

Broadband tunability in the yellow-red region is obtained by use of intracavity type II second-harmonic generation of gain-switched Cr:forsterite lasers in KTiOPO(4) . An operating wavelength range of 67 nm, from 587 to 654 nm, is obtained. Second-harmonic energy of almost 1 mJ is achieved at a peak wavelength of 620 nm. A measured factor-of-34 enhancement in acceptance angle is obtained with broadband harmonic generation. Frequency doubling is optimized with respect to the Cr:forsterite pump and laser parameters.  相似文献
