Effects of Hall current on MHD free convection boundary layer flow of a viscous incompressible electrically conducting fluid past a heated vertical flat plate of finite dimension in the presence of a uniform transverse magnetic field have been studied. An exact solution of the governing equations describing the flow has been obtained. The velocity field, induced magnetic field and bulk temperature distributions in the boundary layer flow have been discussed. It is found that the velocity components increase with an increase in Hall parameter. It is noticed that the induced magnetic field components are radically influenced by the Hall parameter. It is also found that the magnitude of bulk temperature in the x-direction decreases with an increase in either Hall parameter or magnetic parameter. On the other hand, the magnitude of the bulk temperature in the z-direction increases with an increase in Hall parameter whereas it decreases with an increase in magnetic parameter.  相似文献

An analysis is made of Hall effects on the steady shear flow of a viscous incompressible electrically conducting fluid past an infinite porous plate in the presence of a uniform transverse magnetic field. It is shown that for suction at the plate, steady shear flow solution exists only when S2<Q, where S and Q are the suction and magnetic parameters, respectively. The primary flow velocity decreases with increase in Hall parameter m. But the cross-flow velocity first increases and then decreases with increase in m. Similar results are obtained for variation of the induced magnetic field with m. It is further found that for blowing at the plate, steady shear flow solution exists only when , where S1 is the blowing parameter.  相似文献

We have studied the unsteady Couette flow of a viscous incompressible fluid confined between parallel plates, rotating with an uniform angular velocity about an axis normal to the plates. The flow is induced by the motion of the upper plate and the fluid and plates rotate in unison with the same constant angular velocity. An exact solution of the governing equations have been obtained for small and large time τ by applying Laplace transform technique. It is found that the primary velocity decreases with increase in rotation parameter for small as well as large time. It is interesting to note that a back flow occurs in the region 0.0η0.7 for large time with increase in K when K=4 and 5. The secondary velocity increases in magnitude for small time with increase in rotation parameter. It is observed that the secondary velocity increases in magnitude for small values of rotation parameter. On the other hand, for large values of rotation parameter K2, it decreases near the stationary plate and increases near the moving plate. The shear stress due to primary flow decreases with increase in rotation parameter K2. On the other hand, it increases due to secondary flow with increase in rotation parameter for small time. It is noticed that for large time there exists separation in the primary and secondary flows due to high rotation.  相似文献

An exact solution of the unsteady hydromagnetic flow due to non-coaxial rotations of a porous disk and a fluid at infinity is obtained on taking Hall currents into account. An analytical solution of the problem is obtained for small and large times after the start by the Laplace transform method. It is found that for small values of time there is no inertial oscillations while for large time the steady state is reached through inertial oscillations. The frequency of these oscillations first increases, reaches a maximum and then decreases with increase in Hall parameter.  相似文献

The focus of the present study is to obtain exact solutions for the flow of a viscous hydromagnetic fluid due to the rotation of an infinite disk in the presence of an axial uniform steady magnetic field with the inclusion of Hall current effect. In place of the traditional von Karman's axisymmetric evolution of the flow, the rotational non-axisymmetric stationary conducting flow is taken into consideration here, whose governing equations allow an exact solution to develop bounded everywhere in the normal direction to the wall. The three-dimensional equations of motion are treated analytically yielding derivation of exact solutions, which differ from those of corresponding to the classical von Karman's conducting flow. Making use of this solution, analytical formulas for the angular velocity components, for the current density field as well as for the wall shear stresses are extracted. The critical peripheral locations at which extrema of the local skin friction occur are also determined. It is proved from the analytical results that for the specific flow the properly defined thicknesses decay as the magnetic field strength increases in magnitude, approaching their hydrodynamic value in the limit of large Hall numbers.Interaction of the resolved flow field with the surrounding temperature is further analyzed via the energy equation. The temperature field is shown to accord with the dissipation function. According to the Fourier's heat law, a constant heat transfer from the disk to the fluid occurs, though it increases by the presence of magnetic field, the increase is slowed down by the Hall effect eventually reaching its hydrodynamic limit.  相似文献

In this paper, an analysis is made on the unsteady flow of an incompressible electrically conducting viscous fluid bounded by an infinite porous flat plate. The plate executes harmonic oscillations at a frequency n in its own plane. A uniform magnetic field Ho is imposed perpendicular to the direction of the flow. It is found that the solution also exists for blowing at the plate. The temperature distribution is also obtained by taking viscous and Joule dissipation into account. The mean wall temperature θo(O) decreases with the increase in the Hall parameter m. It is found that no temperature distribution exists for the blowing at the plate.  相似文献

The unsteady hydromagnetic flow due to non-coaxial rotations of a porous disk with slip condition and a fluid at infinity has been studied on taking Hall currents into account. An exact solution of the governing equation has been obtained by the Laplace transform technique. Asymptotic solution is obtained for large time. It is found that for large time there exists a thin boundary layer near the disk. The thickness of this layer decreases with increase in either suction or magnetic parameter.  相似文献

The unsteady magnehydrodynamics (MHD) Couette flow of an electrically conducting fluid in a rotating system is investigated by taking the Hall and ion-slip currents into consideration. The derived fundamental equations on the assumption of a small magnetic Reynolds number are solved analytically with the well-known Laplace transform technique. The unified closed-form expressions are obtained for the velocity and the skin friction in the two different cases of the magnetic field being fixed to either the fluid or the moving plate. The effects of various parameters on the velocity and the skin friction are discussed by graphs. The results reveal that the primary and secondary velocities increase with the Hall current. An increase in the ion-slip parameter also leads to an increase in the primary velocity but a decrease in the secondary velocity. It is also shown that the combined effect of the rotation,Hall, and ion-slip parameters determines the contribution of the secondary motion in the fluid flow.  相似文献

The main interest of the present investigation is to generate exact solutions to the steady Navier-Stokes equations for the incompressible Newtonian viscous electrically conducting fluid flow motion due to a disk rotating with a constant angular speed. For an external uniform magnetic field applied perpendicular to the plane of the disk, the governing equations allow an exact solution to develop taking into account of the rotational non-axisymmetric stationary conducting flow.Making use of the analytic solution, exact formulas for the angular velocity components as well as for the wall shear stresses are extracted. It is proved analytically that for the specific flow the properly defined thicknesses decay as the magnetic field strength increases in magnitude. Interaction of the resolved flow field with the surrounding temperature is further analyzed via the energy equation. The temperature field is shown to accord with the dissipation and the Joule heating. According to Fourier's heat law, a constant heat transfer from the disk to the fluid occurs, though decreases for small magnetic fields because of the dominance of Joule heating, it eventually increases for growing magnetic field parameters.  相似文献

An exact solution for the three-dimensional flow due to non-coaxial rotation of a porous disk and a second grade fluid at infinity is obtained. It is shown that for uniform suction or uniform blowing at the disk, an asymptotic profile exists for the velocity distribution. The velocity depends on two parameters: one of them is the suction parameter or blowing parameter and the other is the visco-elastic parameter. Furthermore, it is found that when the value of the visco-elastic parameter is fixed, the velocity decreases with an increase in the value of the suction parameter and when the value of the suction parameter is fixed, the velocity increases with an increase in the value of the visco-elastic parameter.  相似文献

An analysis is carried out to study the combined effects of viscous and Ohmic heating in the transient, free convective flow of a viscous, incompressible, and doubly stratified fluid past an isothermal vertical plate with radiation and chemical reactions. The governing boundary layer equations are solved numerically by an implicit finite difference scheme of the Crank-Nicolson type. The influence of different parameters on the velocity, the temperature, the concentration, the skin friction, the Nusselt number, and the Sherwood number is discussed with graphical illustrations. It is observed that an increase in either the thermal stratification or the mass stratification parameter decreases the velocity. An increase in the thermal stratification increases the concentration and decreases the temperature while an opposite effect is observed for an increase in the mass stratification. An augmentation in viscous and Ohmic heating increases the velocity and temperature while decreases the concentration. The results are found to be in good agreement with the existing solutions in literature.  相似文献

The peristaltic transport of a magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) fluid is exam- ined for both symmetric and asymmetric channels. Hall and ion slip effects are taken into account. The heat transfer is analyzed by considering the effects of viscous and Ohmic dissipations. The relevant flow problems are first modeled, and then the closed form solutions are constructed under the assumptions of long wavelength and low Reynolds number. The solutions are analyzed through graphical illustration. It is noted that the velocity increases but the temperature decreases with the increases in the Hall and ion slip parameters. The axial pressure gradient is less in magnitude in the presence of Hall and ion slip currents. The Hall and ion slip effects are to decrease the maximum pres- sure against which peristalsis works as a pump. The free pumping flux decreases with the increases in the Hall and ion slip parameters. The increases in the Hall and ion slip parameters result in an increase in the size of the trapped bolus.  相似文献

In this paper, viscous flow and heat transfer over an unsteady stretching surface is investigated with slip conditions. A system of non-linear partial differential equations is derived and transformed to ordinary differential equations with help of similarity transformations. Numerical computations are carried out for different values of the parameters involved and the analysis of the results obtained shows that the flow field is influenced appreciably by the unsteadiness, and the velocity slip parameter. With increasing values of the unsteadiness parameter, fluid velocity and the temperature are found to decrease in both the presence and absence of slip at the boundary. Fluid velocity decreases due to increasing values of the velocity slip parameter resulting in an increase in the temperature field. Skin-friction decreases with the velocity slip parameter whereas it increases with unsteadiness parameter. The rate of heat transfer decreases with the velocity slip parameter while increases with unsteadiness parameter. Same feature is also noticed for thermal slip parameter.  相似文献

The present study aims to investigate the salient features of incompressible, hydromagnetic, three-dimensional flow of viscous fluid subject to the oscillatory motion of a disk. The rotating disk is contained in a porous medium. Furthermore, a time-invariant version of the Maxwell-Cattaneo law is implemented in the energy equation. The flow problem is normalized by obtaining similarity variables. The resulting nonlinear system is solved numerically using the successive over-relaxation method. The main results are discussed through graphical representations and tables. It is perceived that the thermal relaxation time parameter decreases the temperature curves and increases the heat transfer rate. The oscillatory curves for the velocity field demonstrate a decreasing tendency with the increasing porosity parameter values. Two-and three-dimensional flow phenomena are also shown through graphical results.  相似文献

The problem of unsteady oscillatory flow and heat transfer of two viscous immiscible fluids through a horizontal channel with isothermal permeable walls has been considered. The partial differential equations governing the flow and heat transfer are solved analytically using two-term harmonic and non-harmonic functions in both fluid regions of the channel. Effects of physical parameters such as viscosity ratio, conductivity ratio, Prandtl number and frequency parameter on the velocity and temperature fields are shown graphically. It is observed that the velocity and temperature decrease as the viscosity ratio increases, while they increase with increases in frequency parameter. The effect of increasing the thermal conductivity ratio also suppresses the temperature in both fluid regions. The effect of periodic frequency on the flow is depicted in tabular form. It is predicted that both the velocity and temperature profiles decrease as the periodic frequency increases.  相似文献

An analytical solution of the unsteady Navier–Stokes equations is obtained for the flow due to non-coaxial rotations of an oscillating porous disk and a fluid at infinity, rotating about an axis parallel to the axes of rotation of the disk through a fixed point. The velocity distributions and the shear stresses at the disk are obtained for three different cases when the frequency parameter is greater than, equal to or less than the rotation parameter. The flow has a boundary layer structure even in the case of blowing at the disk.  相似文献

Hydromagnetic flow between two porous disks rotating with same angular velocity Ω about two noncoincident axes has been studied in the presence of a uniform transverse magnetic field. An exact solution of the governing equations has been obtained in a closed form. It is found that the primary velocity f/Ωl increases and the secondary velocity g/Ωl decreases with increase in either Reynolds number Re or the Hartman number M. It is also found that the torque at the disk η= 0 increases with increase in either M^2 or K^2. On the other hand there is no torque at the disk η= 1 for large M^2 and K^2. The heat transfer characteristic has also been studied on taking viscous and Joule dissipation into account. It is seen that the temperature increases with increase in either M^2 or K^2. It is found that the rate of heat transfer at the disk η= 0 increases with increase in either M or K. On the other hand the rate of heat transfer at the disk η= 1 increases with increase in K but decreases with increase in M.  相似文献

Summary The modification of an axi-symmetric viscous flow due to a relative rotation of a disk or fluid by a translation of the boundary are studied. The fluid is taken to be compressible and electrically conducting. The equations governing the motion are solved iteratively through a central-difference scheme. The effect of an axial magnetic field and disk temperature on the flow and heat transfer are included in the present analysis. The translation of the disk or fluid generates a velocity field at each plane parallel to the disk (secondary flow). The cartesian components of the velocity due to the secondary flow are oscillatory in nature when a rigid body rotation of the free stream along with a translation of the disk is considered. The magnetic field damps out the velocity field, and reduces the thickness of the boundary layer. The cross component of wall shear due to secondary flow acts in a direction opposite to the rotation of the disk or fluid for all cases of the motion. The rise in disk temperature produces an increment in the magnitude of the wall shear associated with the secondary flow.  相似文献

In this paper, the steady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) mixed convection boundary layer flow of an incompressible, viscous and electrically conducting fluid over a stretching vertical flat plate is theoretically investigated with Hall effects taken into account. The governing equations are solved numerically using an implicit finite-difference scheme known as the Keller-box method. The effects of the magnetic parameter, the Hall parameter and the buoyancy parameter on the velocity profiles, the cross flow velocity profiles and the temperature profiles are presented graphically and discussed. Investigated results indicate that the Hall effect on the temperature is small, and the magnetic field and Hall currents produce opposite effects on the shear stress and the heat transfer at the stretching surface.  相似文献

The aim of the present study is to investigate the flow of the Casson fluid by an inclined stretching cylinder. A heat transfer analysis is carried out in the presence of thermal radiation and viscous dissipation effects. The temperature dependent thermal conductivity of the Casson fluid is considered. The relevant equations are first simplified under usual boundary layer assumptions, and then transformed into ordinary differential equations by suitable transformations. The transformed ordinary differential equations are computed for the series solutions of velocity and temperature. A convergence analysis is shown explicitly. Velocity and temperature fields are discussed for different physical parameters by graphs and numerical values. It is found that the velocity decreases with the increase in the angle of inclination while increases with the increase in the mixed convection parameter. The enhancement in the thermal conductivity and radiation effects corresponds to a higher fluid temperature. It is also found that heat transfer is more pronounced in a cylinder when it is compared with a flat plate. The thermal boundary layer thickness increases with the increase in the Eckert number. The radiation and variable thermal conductivity decreases the heat transfer rate at the surface.  相似文献
