This paper presents a novel method of designing active inductors using current-controlled voltage sources (CCVSs). The basic idea consists of designing an equivalent inductor, using only capacitors and CCVSs. The signal-flow graph technique is used for this purpose. The CCVSs are emulated by means of nullator/norator pairs. These elements are then realized using second generation current conveyors (CCIIs), and a combination of CCIIs and operational transconductance amplifiers. In addition, a novel design of simulated inductors using operational transresistance amplifiers is presented. The proposed inductors were used to design filters. SPICE simulations are given to highlight viability and to show good reached results.  相似文献

Wafer-level packaging (WLP) technology offers novel opportunities for the realization of high-quality on-chip passives needed in RF front-ends. This paper demonstrates a thin-film WLP technology on top of a 90-nm RF CMOS process with one 15-GHz and two low-power 5-GHz voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) using a high-quality WLP or above-IC inductor. The 5-GHz VCOs have a power consumption of 0.33 mW and a phase noise of -115 dBc/Hz and -111 dBc/Hz at 1-MHz offset, respectively, and the 15-GHz VCO has a phase noise of -105 dBc/Hz at 1-MHz offset with a power consumption of 2.76 mW.  相似文献

A fourth-order hyperchaotic oscillator is described. It contains a negative impedance converter, two gyrators, two capacitors and a diode. The dynamics of the oscillator is shown to be characterised by two positive Lyapunov exponents. It is shown that a stable, driving point admittance function is synthesizable as an active two-port lossless non-reciprocal network, with a termination of 1 ohm resistance. The active two-port structure consists of two gyrators dud a lossless -π structure. In most of the cases augmentation is not required. With feature size scaling, the supply voltage of digital circuits is becoming lower and lower. As a result, the supply voltage of analogue and RF circuits must also be reduced for system on chip (SoC) realisation. This article proposes an ultra-low-supply voltage-controlled oscillator (ULSVCO) and designs a sigma–delta fractional-N frequency synthesiser which adopts such ULSVCO. A mathematical phase-noise model is built here to describe the noise performance of the low-supply voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO). The substrate of the cross-coupled NMOSFETs in the proposed ULSVCO is not grounded but connected to the supply to further reduce the supply voltage. Implemented in 0.18 μm CMOS technology, the proposed ULSVCO can be operated at a supply voltage as low as 0.41 V, the central frequency is set to 1.55 GHz, the phase noise is ?116 dBc/Hz@1.0 MHz. The minimum supply voltage is decreased by about 11% after our idea is adopted and the power consumption of the ULSVCO is only 1.04 mW. With the proposed ULSVCO, we design a sigma–delta-modulator (SDM) fractional-N phase-locked loop frequency synthesiser, which has a 1.43–1.75 GHz frequency tuning range. When the loop bandwidth is set to 100 KHz, the phase noise of our PLL is ?110 dBc/Hz@1.0 MHz.  相似文献

This paper proposes a new approach for the systematic synthesis of active inductors via signal-flow graphs (SFGs). The basic idea consists of proposing and using SFG stamps of active basic building blocks (ABBs) to construct the equivalent SFG of a classical inductor. We show that a large number of active inductors can be thus synthesized; twelve are proposed, most of them are novel. Known ABBs, as well as newly proposed ones are used, namely current conveyors (CC), operational transconductance amplifiers (OTA), current conveyor transconductance amplifiers (CCII-TA), current feedback operational amplifiers (CFOA), operational transresistance amplifiers (OTRA), current backward transconductance amplifiers (CBTA), current feedback transconductance amplifiers (CFTA) and voltage differencing inverting buffered amplifiers (VDIBA). SPICE simulations are given to show the viability of the proposed technique.  相似文献

A family of well-regulated voltage references are shown, which are readily integrable for use with emitter-coupled logic, threshold logic, or linear circuit arrays. By relying on the relatively well-matched characteristics and the temperature tracking of integrated transistors and resistor ratios, the circuit can provide a large range of output fractions of the power supply. The relationships of the circuit components for various output voltages are derived. One circuit configuration gives fractions of the power supply of less than /SUP 1///SUB 2/ while another configuration gives fractions of the power supply greater than /SUP 1///SUB 2/. Limitations of the obtainable fractions are given. Experimental results are shown for each of the two basic circuit configurations and the temperature stability is demonstrated. Well-defined stable voltages are thus derived with a minimum of components and power drain.  相似文献

This paper presents a low voltage low noise open loop automatic amplitude control method for voltage-controlled oscillators (VCO’s). In this method a feedback mechanism keeps the VCO at its optimum amplitude over temperature and process variations and then the loop is broken to avoid noise injection form the control circuitry to the VCO. The loop does not add extra noise to the VCO. Based on the proposed method, a low voltage low noise LC-VCO was designed for a low phase noise application in TSMC 0.18 micron RFCMOS technology. Simulations show considerable improvement in the phase noise with the application of the proposed method.  相似文献

A voltage-controlled oscillator topology is described that combines a fully-differential four-stage ring oscillator with a balanced exclusive NOR gate frequency doubler, and provides both inphase and quadrature output signals at twice the ring oscillator frequency. A simple bisection algorithm for the synthesis of planar inductors using a fast electromagnetic analysis algorithm is presented in this work. Both bisection and electromagnetic analysis algorithms are based on a set of heuristic and physical rules obtained from the study of the electromagnetic behavior of these planar devices. With this procedure, the benefits are two fold: (i) the number of iterations is kept moderately low in the synthesis loop, and (ii) the analysis at each iteration step is speed up without compromising accuracy. The algorithm is applied to the development of an inductor library for a low temperature co-fired ceramic process technology.  相似文献

An adaptive electric current tomography system that contains a novel front-end analog architecture was developed. Programmable voltage sources were used to deliver currents into the study object and to avoid the difficulties of obtaining high-quality current sources. Through inverting an admittance matrix, the system is capable of achieving a desired current drive pattern by applying a computed voltage pattern. The tomograph, operating at 9.6 kHz, comprises 32 driving electrodes and 32 voltage measurement electrodes. The study of system noise performance shows high SNR in the data acquisition which is enhanced by a digital demodulation scheme. A low-power voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) with current-switched technique is presented. The circuit is implemented in 0.18-μm CMOS technology. In the design, a large inductor is used for low-power and low-phase-noise application, whereas a switched capacitor bank and two pairs of MOS varactors are adopted for coarse tuning and fine tuning respectively. The proposed VCO is biased at the boundary of the current and voltage limited region for a good trade-off between power consumption and phase noise. The phase noise of the proposed VCO is reduced in each sub-band by a current-switched technique, and a phase noise improvement of as much as 2.75 dB has been achieved. The proposed VCO has a measured tuning range of 15.2 % from 4.34 to 5.05 GHz and dissipates an average power of 3.78 mW at 1.2 V supply voltage, whereas its measured phase noise and figure of merit FOMT are ?113.0 dBc/Hz and ?183.7 at 1 MHz offset from the frequency of 4.36 GHz respectively.  相似文献
