The products and dynamics of the reactions (18)O((3)P)+NO(2) and (18)O((1)D)+NO(2) have been investigated using crossed beams and provide new constraints on the structures and lifetimes of the reactive nitrogen trioxide intermediates formed in collisions of O((3)P) and O((1)D) with NO(2). For each reaction, two product channels are observed - isotope exchange and O(2)+NO formation. From the measured product signal intensities at collision energies of ~6 to 9.5 kcal∕mol, the branching ratio for O(2)+NO formation vs. isotope exchange for the O((3)P)+NO(2) reaction is 52(+6∕-2)% to 48(+2∕-6)%, while that for O((1)D)+NO(2) is 97(+2∕-12)% to 3(+12∕-2)%. The branching ratio for the O((3)P)+NO(2) reaction derived here is similar to the ratio measured in previous kinetics studies, while this is the first study in which the products of the O((1)D)+NO(2) reaction have been determined experimentally. Product energy and angular distributions are derived for the O((3)P)+NO(2) isotope exchange and the O((1)D)+NO(2)→O(2)+NO reactions. The results demonstrate that the O((3)P)+NO(2) isotope exchange reaction proceeds by an NO(3)? complex that is long-lived with respect to its rotational period and suggest that statistical incorporation of the reactant (18)O into the product NO(2) (apart from zero point energy isotope effects) likely occurs. In contrast, the (18)O((1)D)+NO(2)→O(2)+NO reaction proceeds by a direct "stripping" mechanism via a short-lived (18)O-O-NO? complex that results in the occurrence of (18)O in the product O(2) but not in the product NO. Similarly, (18)O is detected in O(2) but not NO for the O((3)P)+NO(2)→O(2)+NO reaction. Thus, even though the product energy and angular distributions for O((3)P)+NO(2)→O(2)+NO derived from the experimental data are uncertain, these results for isotope labeling under single collision conditions support previous kinetics studies that concluded that this reaction proceeds by an asymmetric (18)O-O-NO? intermediate and not by a long-lived symmetric NO(3)? complex, as earlier bulk isotope labeling experiments had concluded. Applicability of these results to atmospheric chemistry is also discussed.  相似文献

We have used oxygen Rydberg time-of-flight spectroscopy to carry out a crossed molecular beam study of the CN + O2 reaction at collision energies of 3.1 and 4.1 kcal/mol. The O(3P2) products were tagged by excitation to high-n Rydberg levels and subsequently field ionized at a detector. The translational energy distributions were broad, indicating that the NCO is formed with a wide range of internal excitation, and the angular distribution was forward-backward symmetric, indicating the participation of NCOO intermediates with lifetimes comparable to or longer than their rotational periods. Rice-Ramsperger-Kassel-Marcus modeling of the dissociation of NCOO to NCO + O suggests that Do(NC-OO) > or = 38 kcal/mol, which is consistent with several theoretical calculations. Implications for the competing CO + NO channel are discussed.  相似文献

The crossed molecular beam scattering technique with soft electron ionization (EI) is used to disentangle the complex dynamics of the polyatomic O(3P) + C2H4 reaction, which is of great relevance in combustion and atmospheric chemistry. Exploiting the newly developed capability of attaining universal product detection by using soft EI, at a collision energy of 54.0 kJ mol(-1), five different primary products have been identified, which correspond to the five exoergic competing channels leading to CH2CHO(vinoxy) + H, CH3CO(acetyl) + H, CH3(methyl) + HCO(formyl), CH2(methylene) + HCHO(formaldehyde), and CH2CO(ketene) + H2. From laboratory product angular and velocity distributions, center-of-mass product angular and translational energy distributions and the relative branching ratios for each channel have been obtained, affording an unprecedented characterization of this important reaction.  相似文献

The photodissociation of NO(3) has been studied using velocity map ion imaging. Measurements of the NO(2) + O channel reveal statistical branching ratios of the O((3)P(J)) fine-structure states, isotropic angular distributions, and low product translational energy consistent with barrierless dissociation along the ground state potential surface. There is clear evidence for two distinct pathways to the formation of NO + O(2) products. The dominant pathway (>70% yield) is characterized by vibrationally excited O(2)((3)Σ(g)(-), v = 5-10) and rotationally cold NO((2)Π), while the second pathway is characterized by O(2)((3)Σ(g)(-), v = 0-4) and rotationally hotter NO((2)Π) fragments. We speculate the first pathway has many similarities to the "roaming" dynamics recently implicated in several systems. The rotational angular momentum of the molecular fragments is positively correlated for this channel, suggesting geometric constraints in the dissociation. The second pathway results in almost exclusive formation of NO((2)Π, v = 0). Although product state correlations support dissociation via an as yet unidentified three-center transition state, theoretical confirmation is needed.  相似文献

Experimental studies with molecular beam and LIF techniques have independently shown that the reaction O(1D) + H2 → OH + H passes through a long-lived complex and gives products with small translational and large rotational excitation. We have previously published a statistical algorithm, based on ordinary RRKM theory with angular momentum restrictions included, which was designed to simulate molecular beam experiments. It has now been modified and applied to simulate the experimental rotational OH distributions from O(1D)+H2, measured by Luntz et al. The present study also includes simulation of similar results by Luntz for O(1D) + HCI → OH + Cl. The purely statistical algorithm successfully simulates the apparently non-statistical experimental rotational distributions. For these reactions the total angular momentum conservation. which is applied at the transition state, proves to be decisive for the product energy distributions.  相似文献

A state-to-state dynamics study was performed at a collision energy of 1.53 eV to analyze the effect of the C-H stretch mode excitation on the dynamics of the gas-phase H+CHD3 reaction, which can evolve along two channels, H-abstraction, CD3+H2, and D-abstraction, CHD2+HD. Quasi-classical trajectory calculations were performed on an analytical potential energy surface constructed previously by our group. First, strong coupling between different vibrational modes in the entry channel was observed; i.e., the reaction is non-adiabatic. Second, we found that the C-H stretch mode excitation has little influence on the product rotational distributions for both channels, and on the vibrational distribution for the CD3+H2 channel. However, it has significant influence on the product vibrational distribution for the CHD2+HD channel, where the C-H stretch excitation is maintained in the products, i.e., the reaction shows mode selectivity, reproducing the experimental evidence. Third, the C-H stretch excitation by one quantum increases the reactivity of the vibrational ground-state, in agreement with experiment. Fourth, the state-to-state angular distributions of the CD3 and CHD2 products are reported, finding that for the reactant ground-state the products are practically sideways, whereas the C-H excitation yields a more forward scattering.  相似文献

Extensive quasiclassical trajectory calculations for the O(1D)+CD4 multichannel reaction were carried out on a new global potential energy surface fit by permutationally invariant polynomials. The product branching ratios, translational energy distributions, and angular distributions of OD+CD3, D+CD2OD/CD3O, and D2+DCOD/D2CO product channels were calculated and compared with the available experimental results. Good agreement between theory and experiment has been achieved, indicating small isotope effects for the title reaction. The O(1D)+CD4 reaction mainly proceeds through the CD3OD intermediate via the trapped abstraction mechanism, with initial abstraction of the D atom rather than the direct insertion, followed by decomposition of CD3OD into various products.  相似文献

The photodissociation of DNCN following excitation of the C 2A"<--X 2A" electronic transition was studied using fast beam photofragment translational spectroscopy. Analysis of the time-of-flight distributions reveals a photodissociation channel leading to D+NCN competitive with the previously observed CD+N2 product channel. The translational energy distributions describing the D+NCN channel are peaked at low energy, consistent with internal conversion to the ground state followed by statistical decay and the absence of an exit barrier. The results suggest a relatively facile pathway for the reaction CH+N2-->H+NCN that proceeds through the HNCN intermediate and support a recently proposed mechanism for prompt NO production in flames.  相似文献

The product branching ratios for NO+(X 1Sigma+) and NO+(a 3Sigma+) produced from the reaction of N+ with O2 have been measured at 298 and 500 K in a selected ion flow tube. Approximately 0.5% of the total products are in NO+(a) at both temperatures, despite the fact that the reaction to form NO+(a) is 0.3 eV exothermic. High-level ab initio calculations of the potential energy surfaces for the N+ + O2 reaction show that the reaction from N+(3P) + O2(3Sigma(g)) reactants starts with an efficient early stage charge transfer to the N(2D) + O2+(X 2Pi) channel, which gives rise to the O2+(X 2Pi) product and, at the same time, serves as the starting point for all of the reaction channels leading to NO+ and O+ products. Pathways to produce NO+(a 3Sigma+) are found to be less favorable than pathways leading to the major product NO+(X 1Sigma+). Production of N(2D) has implications for the concentration of NO in the mesosphere.  相似文献

The H- and D-atom products from collisional quenching of OD A (2)Σ(+) by H(2) are characterized through Doppler spectroscopy using two-photon (2 (2)S ←← 1 (2)S) laser-induced fluorescence. Partial deuteration enables separation of the channel forming H + HOD products, which accounts for 75% of reactive quenching events, from the D + H(2)O product channel. The Doppler profiles, along with those reported previously for other isotopic variants, are transformed into product translational energy distributions using a robust fitting procedure based on discrete velocity basis functions. The product translational energy distribution for the H-atom channel is strongly peaked at low energy (below 0.5 eV) with a long tail extending to the energetic limit. By contrast, the D-atom channel exhibits a small peak at low translational energy with a distinctive secondary peak at higher translational energy (approximately 1.8 eV) before falling off to higher energy. In both cases, most of the available energy flows into internal excitation of the water products. Similar distributions are obtained upon reanalysis of D- and H-atom Doppler profiles, respectively, from reactive quenching of OH A (2)Σ(+) by D(2). The sum of the translational energy distributions for H- and D-atom channels is remarkably similar to that obtained for OH A (2)Σ(+) + H(2), where the two channels cannot be distinguished from one another. The product translational energy distributions from reactive quenching are compared with those obtained from a previous experiment performed at higher collision energy, quasiclassical trajectory calculations of the post-quenching dynamics, and a statistical model.  相似文献

The O((1)D) + C(3)H(8) reaction has been reinvestigated using the universal crossed molecular beam method. Three reaction channels, CH(3) + C(2)H(4)OH, C(2)H(5) + CH(2)OH, and OH + C(3)H(7), have been observed. All three channels are significant in the title reaction with the C(2)H(5) formation process to be the most important, while the CH(3) formation and the OH formation channels are about equal. Product kinetic energy distributions and angular distributions have been determined for the three reaction channels observed. The oxygen-containing radicals in the CH(3) and C(2)H(5) formation pathways show forward-backward symmetric angular distribution relative to the O atom beam, while the OH product shows a clearly forward angular distribution. These results indicate that the OH formation channel seems to exhibit different dynamics from the CH(3) and C(2)H(5) channels.  相似文献

The dynamics of O(3P) + CO collisions at a hyperthermal collision energy near 80 kcal mol-1 have been studied with a crossed molecular beams experiment and with quasi-classical trajectory calculations on computed potential energy surfaces. In the experiment, a rotatable mass spectrometer detector was used to monitor inelastically and reactively scattered products as a function of velocity and scattering angle. From these data, center-of-mass (c.m.) translational energy and angular distributions were derived for the inelastic and reactive channels. Isotopically labeled C18O was used to distinguish the reactive channel (16O + C18O 16OC + 18O) from the inelastic channel (16O + C18O 16O + C18O). The reactive 16OC molecules scattered predominantly in the forward direction, i.e., in the same direction as the velocity vector of the reagent O atoms in the c.m. frame. The c.m. translational energy distribution of the reactively scattered 16OC and 18O was very broad, indicating that 16OC is formed with a wide range of internal energies, with an average internal excitation of approximately 40% of the available energy. The c.m. translational energy distribution of the inelastically scattered C18O and 16O products indicated that an average of 15% of the collision energy went into internal excitation of C18O, although a small fraction of the collisions transferred nearly all the collision energy into internal excitation of C18O. The theoretical calculations, which extend previously published results on this system, predict c.m. translational energy and angular distributions that are in near quantitative agreement with the experimentally derived distributions. The theoretical calculations, thus validated by the experimental results, have been used to derive internal state distributions of scattered CO products and to probe in detail the interactions that lead to the observed dynamical behavior.  相似文献

The dynamics of the radical-radical reaction O((3)P) + CH(3), a prototypical case for the reactions of atomic oxygen with alkyl radicals of great relevance in combustion chemistry, has been investigated by means of the crossed molecular beam technique with mass spectrometric detection at a collision energy of 55.9 kJ mol(-1). The results have been examined in the light of previous kinetic and theoretical work. From product angular and velocity distribution measurements, the dynamics of the predominant H-displacement channel leading to formaldehyde formation has been characterized. This channel has been found to proceed via the formation of an osculating complex; a significant coupling between the product centre-of-mass angular and translational energy distributions has been noted. Experimental attempts to characterize the dynamics of the channel leading to HCO + H(2) have failed and it remains unclear whether HCO is formed by the reaction and/or, if formed, a part of HCO does not dissociate quickly into CO + H.  相似文献

Time-dependent wave packet quantum scattering (TWQS) calculations are presented for HD(+) (v = 0 - 3;j(0)=1) + He collisions in the center-of-mass collision energy (E(T)) range of 0.0-2.0 eV. The present TWQS approach accounts for Coriolis coupling and uses the ab initio potential energy surface of Palmieri et al. [Mol. Phys. 98, 1839 (2000)]. For a fixed total angular momentum J, the energy dependence of reaction probabilities exhibits quantum resonance structure. The resonances are more pronounced for low J values and for the HeH(+) + D channel than for the HeD(+) + H channel and are particularly prominent near threshold. The quantum effects are no longer discernable in the integral cross sections, which compare closely to quasiclassical trajectory calculations conducted on the same potential energy surface. The integral cross sections also compare well to recent state-selected experimental values over the same reactant and translational energy range. Classical impulsive dynamics and steric arguments can account for the significant isotope effect in favor of the deuteron transfer channel observed for HD(+)(v<3) and low translational energies. At higher reactant energies, angular momentum constraints favor the proton-transfer channel, and isotopic differences in the integral cross sections are no longer significant. The integral cross sections as well as the J dependence of partial cross sections exhibit a significant alignment effect in favor of collisions with the HD(+) rotational angular momentum vector perpendicular to the Jacobi R coordinate. This effect is most pronounced for the proton-transfer channel at low vibrational and translational energies.  相似文献

The dissociation dynamics of HOD via two-photon excitation to the C? state have been investigated using the H-atom Rydberg tagging time-of-flight (TOF) technique. The H-atom action spectrum for the C? ← X? transition shows resolved rotational structure. Product translational energy distributions and angular distributions have also been recorded for the H + OD channel for three excited levels each with k(a)′ = 2. From these distributions, quantum state distributions and angular anisotropy parameters (β2 and β4) for the OD product were determined. These results are consistent with the nonadiabatic predissociation picture illustrated in the one-photon dissociation process for H2O. The heterogeneous dissociation pathway via Coriolis coupling is the dominant dissociation process in the present study. A high proportion of the total available energy is deposited into the rotational energy of the OD product. The anisotropic recoil distributions reveal the distinctive contributions from the alignment of the excited states and the dissociation process. Comparisons are also made between the results for HOD and H2O via the equivalent rotational transitions. The OH bond energy, D(o)(H?OD), of the HOD molecule is also determined to be 41283.0 ± 5 cm(-1).  相似文献

The photodissociation of N(2)O at wavelengths near 130 nm has been investigated by velocity-mapped product imaging. In all, five dissociation channels have been detected, leading to the following products: O((1)S)+N(2)(X (1)Sigma), N((2)D)+NO(X (2)Pi), N((2)P)+NO(X (2)Pi), O((3)P) + N(2)(A (3)Sigma(+) (u)), and O((3)P) + N(2)(B (3)Pi(g)). The most significant channel is to the products O((1)S) + N(2)(X(1)Sigma), with strong vibrational excitation in the N(2). The O((3)P) + N(2)(A,B):N((2)D,(2)P) + NO branching ratio is measured to be 1.4 +/- 0.5, while the N(2)(A) + O((3)P(J)):N(2)(B) + O((3)P(J)) branching ratio is determined to be 0.84+/-0.09. The spin-orbit distributions for the O((3)P(J)), N((2)P(J)), and N((2)D(J)) products were also determined. The angular distributions of the products are in qualitative agreement with excitation to the N(2)O(D (1)Sigma(+)) state, with participation as well by the (3)Pi(v) state.  相似文献

The angular and velocity distributions of desorbing product N(2) were examined over the crystal azimuth in steady-state NO+CO and N(2)O+CO reactions on Pd(110) by cross-correlation time-of-flight techniques. At surface temperatures below 600 K, N(2) desorption in both reactions splits into two directional lobes collimated along 41 degrees -45 degrees from the surface normal toward the [001] and [001] directions. Above 600 K, the normally directed N(2) desorption is enhanced in the NO reduction. Each product desorption component, as well as CO(2), shows a fairly asymmetric distribution about its collimation axis. Two factors, i.e., the anisotropic site structures and the reactant orientation and movements, are operative to induce such asymmetry, depending on the product emission mechanism.

Photodissociation dynamics of D(2)O in the B?((1)A(1)) state at different photolysis wavelengths have been investigated using the D-atom Rydberg "tagging" time-of-flight (TOF) technique, in combination with a tunable vacuum ultraviolet photolysis light source. TOF spectra of the D-atom product from the D(2)O photodissociation in both parallel and perpendicular polarizations have been measured. Product kinetic energy distributions and angular distributions have been derived from these TOF spectra. From these distributions, internal state distributions of the OD product as well as the OD quantum state specific angular anisotropy parameters have been derived. Two product channels governed by distinct dissociation dynamics have been clearly observed in the B?((1)A(1)) state photodissociation: ground electronic state radical product OD(X (2)Π) + D and excited electronic state OD(A (2)Σ(+)) + D. The OD(A) + D channel proceeds via adiabatic pathway on the B?((1)A(1)) state surface, producing rovibrational excitation in the OD(A) product, while the OD(X) + D channel is generated through nonadiabatic pathway mainly via conical intersections between the B?((1)A(1)) and the X?((1)A(1)) state surfaces. Due to strong angular force induced by the conical intersections, the OD(X) product is extremely hot in the rotational excitation close to the energy limit (N ~ 50 for v = 0). However, the vibrational excitation is cold in the OD(X) product with dominant population in the ground vibrational state v = 0. Detailed experimental results at different photolysis wavelengths show that at higher energy the unstable periodic orbit, from which dissociation starts, on the B? state has stronger excitation degree of the OD internal state. The negative angular anisotropy parameters of the OD(A) products suggest that the angular forces in this adiabatic dissociation pathway from these periodic orbits have changed the original angular distribution of the D(2)O molecule excited by the B?((1)A(1))←X?((1)A(1)) parallel transition.  相似文献

Mixed quantum-classical calculations have been carried out for the O(1D) + N2O reaction with an emphasis on the effect of the relative translational energy as well as initial vibrational state of N2O on the NO + NO/N2 + O2 product branching. The calculations were done within a planar constraint using a five-dimensional analytical potential energy surface previously developed by our group. Three vibrational coordinates in the N2O molecule were treated with a quantum wave packet technique while other two degrees of freedom, translational and angular motions of O(1D) with respect to N2O, were described with classical mechanics. We have found that the initial orientation angle significantly affects the NO + NO/N2 + O2 product branching similar to our previous classical trajectory result using the same potential surface. It has been also found that the branching ratio decreases as the translational energy increases except for a low energy region. Excitation of the initial vibrational state of the N2O reactant does not largely affect the reaction dynamics.  相似文献
