We present a density-functional theory study addressing the energetics and electronic structure properties of isolated oxygen adatoms at the SrTiO3(0 0 1) surface. Together with a surface lattice oxygen atom, the adsorbate is found to form a peroxide-type molecular species. This gives rise to a non-trivial topology of the potential energy surface for lateral adatom motion, with the most stable adsorption site not corresponding to the one expected from a continuation of the perovskite lattice. With computed modest diffusion barriers below 1 eV, it is rather the overall too weak binding at both regular SrTiO3(0 0 1) terminations that could be a critical factor for oxide film growth applications.  相似文献

We have studied the adsorption and reaction of methanol on the bare and oxygen precovered Cu(1 1 0) surface at 200 K using reflectance difference spectroscopy (RDS). On the bare and fully oxygen covered surface, the sticking coefficient is close to zero. In contrast, on the partially oxygen covered surface, a sticking coefficient close to unity is obtained. This observation suggests a high mobility of methanol on both bare and oxygen covered Cu(1 1 0) and of methoxy on Cu(1 1 0). Two reaction regimes, an oxygen supply limited and an adsorption site limited regime are identified. The transition between these two regimes occurs for an oxygen coverage of about 0.2.  相似文献

We have used coaxial impact-collision ion scattering spectroscopy (CAICISS) and time-of-flight elastic recoil detection analysis (TOF-ERDA) to investigate the adsorption of atomic hydrogen on the 6H-SiC(0 0 0 1)√3×√3 surface. It has been found that the saturation coverage of hydrogen on the 6H-SiC(0 0 0 1)√3×√3 surface is about 1.7 ML. Upon saturated adsorption of atomic hydrogen, the √3×√3 surface structure changes to the 1×1 structure. The data of the CAICISS measurements have indicated that as a result of the hydrogen adsorption, Si adatoms on the √3×√3 surface move from T4 to on-top sites.  相似文献

The adsorption process of chlorine on Si(1 1 1) has been studied by means of real time surface differential reflectance (SDR) spectroscopy and second harmonic generation (SHG). The structure observed at 3.6 eV in SDR spectra is attributed to transitions including Si–Cl antibonding states. However, the overall feature is due to the removal of the electronic states of the clean surface. Developments of adsorption on Si adatom dangling bonds and breaking of adatom back bonds are obtained from SDR spectra and second harmonic (SH) intensity. They are well fit by the solutions of the rate equations under the assumption of adsorption of atoms without migration, and the initial sticking probability on the dangling bonds and the initial breaking probability of the back bonds are determined. Dependence of the adsorption kinetics on the carrier concentration is briefly reported.  相似文献

The adsorption of 0.25, 0.5 and 1 monolayer (ML) of the transition metal Ni on the metal substrate Al(1 1 0) was studied using first-principles calculations at the level of density functional theory. The metal–metal system was analyzed with the generalized gradient approximation. Four stable atomic configurations were considered, and the optimized geometries and adsorption energies of different Ni adsorption sites on the Al(1 1 0) surface at selected levels of coverage were calculated and compared. The four-fold hollow site was determined to be the most stable adsorption site with adsorption energy of 5.101 eV at 0.25 ML, 3.874 eV at 0.5 ML and 3.665 eV at 1 ML. The adsorption energies of the four sites slightly decreased as the Ni coverage increased. Work function analysis showed that when Ni is adsorbed on the Al(1 1 0) surface, the work function decreased as the coverage increased due to depolarization. The Mulliken population and density of states were calculated to determine the charge distribution of the adsorption site, confirming that a chemisorption interaction exists between the adsorbed Ni atom and Al(1 1 0) surface atoms.  相似文献

The dissociative sticking probability for H2 on Pd films supported on sputtered Highly Ordered Pyrolytic Graphite (HOPG) has been derived from measurements of the rate of the H–D exchange reaction at 1 bar. The sticking probability for H2, S, is higher on Pd hydride than on Pd (a factor of 1.4 at 140 °C), but the apparent desorption energy derived from S is the same on Pd and Pd hydride within the uncertainty of the experiment. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations for the (1 1 1) surfaces of Pd and Pd hydride show that, at a surface H coverage of a full mono layer, H binds less strongly to Pd hydride than to Pd. The activation barrier for desorption at a H coverage of one mono layer is slightly lower on Pd hydride, whereas the activation energy for adsorption is similar on Pd and Pd hydride. It is concluded that the higher sticking probability on Pd hydride is most likely caused by a slightly lower equilibrium coverage of H, which is a consequence of the lower heat of adsorption for H on Pd hydride.  相似文献

The adsorption of sulfur on Co(0 0 0 1) was studied using density functional theory calculations at coverage from 0.11 ML to 1.0 ML. Calculated results indicate that atomic S favors in hollow sites with bond S–Co dominated at lower coverage and at higher coverage the strong adsorbate S–S interaction leads to the formation of S2 species. It was shown that the adsorption energy generally increases (gets weaker) with the coverage in a near linear fashion for the most stable configurations. In addition, modification of the surface electronic properties has been discussed and some discrepancy are found between our calculations and the findings of O adsorption on Au(1 1 1) and Pt(1 1 1) surfaces.  相似文献

The dissociative chemisorption of Cl2 on Si(1 1 4) was studied at room temperature using scanning tunneling microscopy. Filled and empty state imaging revealed a multitude of possible adsorption configurations with adsorption preferring rebonded atom and dimer sites over tetramer sites. The dissociation and subsequent adsorption processes were sufficiently exothermic that Cl could interrogate the potential energy landscape and find local energy minima. Annealing revealed configurations that preserved the strongest π-bonds of the (1 1 4) reconstruction.  相似文献

Reflection absorption infrared spectroscopy (RAIRS) and temperature programmed desorption (TPD) have been used to investigate the effect of pre-dosed O atoms on the adsorption of NO on Pt{2 1 1} at room temperature. RAIRS experiments show that no new species are formed when NO is adsorbed onto a Pt{2 1 1} surface that has been pre-dosed with oxygen and no species are lost from the spectra, compared to spectra recorded for NO adsorption on the clean Pt{2 1 1} surface. However pre-dosed oxygen atoms do influence the frequency and intensity of several of the observed infrared bands. In stark contrast, pre-dosed O has a large effect on the TPD spectra. In particular N2 and N2O desorption, seen following NO adsorption on the clean Pt{2 1 1} surface, is completely inhibited. This effect has been assigned to the blocking of NO dissociation by the pre-adsorbed O atoms. A new NO desorption peak, not seen for NO adsorption on the clean Pt{2 1 1} surface, is also observed in TPD spectra recorded following NO adsorption on an oxygen pre-dosed Pt{2 1 1} surface.  相似文献

We have used X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy to study the adsorption of L-cysteine on a rutile TiO2(110) surface at room temperature and ? 65 °C. For the molecules in direct contact with the surface our results suggest that the molecules bind dissociatively to the fivefold-coordinated Ti atoms of the surface through their deprotonated carboxylic groups. A second, dissociative interaction occurs between the molecular thiol groups and the surface. It is attributed to a dissociative bond to the bridging oxygen vacancies. Most likely, the thiol groups are deprotonated and a bond is formed between the thiolates and defects. In an alternative scenario, the C–S bond is cleaved and atomic sulfur binds to the defects. With regard to the molecular amino groups, they remain neutral at the lowest investigated coverages (0.3–0.5 ML), but already starting from around 0.7 ML nominal coverage protons are being transferred to them. The fraction of protonated amino groups increases with coverage and becomes dominating in multilayers prepared at room temperature and ? 65 °C. In these multilayers the carboxylic groups are deprotonated.  相似文献

Well-ordered ultra-thin Al2O3 films were grown on NiAl (1 1 0) surface by exposing the sample at various oxygen absorption temperatures ranging from 570 to 1100 K at dose rates 6.6 × 10−5 and 6.6 × 10−6 Pa. From the results of low-energy electron diffraction (LEED), Auger electron spectrometer (AES) and X-ray photon spectroscopy (XPS) observations, it was revealed that oxidation mechanism above 770 K is different from well-known two-step process. At high temperature, oxidation and crystallization occurred simultaneously while in two-step process oxidation and crystallization occurred one after another. At high-temperature oxidation well-ordered crystalline oxide can be formed by a single-step without annealing. Well-ordered Al2O3 layer with thickness over 1 nm was obtained in oxygen absorption temperature 1070 K and a dose rate 6.6 × 10−6 Pa at 1200 L oxygen.  相似文献

Using the single-crystal adsorption calorimeter (SCAC), coverage-dependent heats of adsorption and sticking probabilities are reported for O2 and NO on Pt{1 1 1}, Pt{2 1 1} and Pt{4 1 1} at 300 K. At low coverage, oxygen adsorption is dissociative for all Pt surfaces. The highest initial heat of adsorption is found on Pt{2 1 1}, with a value of 370 kJ/mol, followed by those on Pt{4 1 1} (310 kJ/mol) and Pt{1 1 1} (300 kJ/mol). We attribute this relatively large difference in the dissociative heat of adsorption at low coverage to the step character of the {2 1 1} surface. Initial sticking probabilities, so, are similar for the three surfaces, 0.22 on Pt{1 1 1}, 0.17 on Pt{2 1 1} and 0.18 on Pt{4 1 1}, rapidly decreasing as the oxygen coverage increases. For nitric oxide, the initial heats of adsorption are very similar and consistent with either dissociative or molecular adsorption, with values of 182 kJ/mol on Pt{1 1 1}, 192 kJ/mol on Pt{2 1 1} and 217 kJ/mol on Pt{4 1 1}. The so value is virtually identical for all three systems, with values ranging from 0.82 to 0.85, suggesting that the initial sticking probability is insensitive to the surface structure and adsorption is intrinsically precursor mediated. SCAC data are also used to evaluate pre-exponential factors, ν, for first-order desorption at high coverage where adsorption is non-dissociative. Values of 3 × 1018, 6 × 1018 and 2 × 1018 s?1 for O2, and 4 × 1019, 6 × 1017 and 2 × 1020 s?1 for NO on Pt{1 1 1}, Pt{2 1 1} and Pt{4 1 1}, respectively, are found. These unexpectedly high values are rationalised in terms of conventional transition state theory entropy changes.  相似文献

Synchrotron radiation ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy (SRUPS) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) have been applied to investigate oxygen adsorption on a cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) (1 1 1)A surface. The surface chemical composition and the surface oxidation process were monitored by recording the Te 3d, O 1s, Zn 2p, Cd 4d core level peaks, and the Cd MNN Auger peak. The CZT (1 1 1)A surface was effectively oxidized by dosing oxygen directly. The typical surface state of the clean CZT (1 1 1)A surface was identified. After oxygen exposure, this surface state disappeared and a signal due to the formation of O–CZT appeared. In addition, the work function of CZT decreased with the increasing oxygen exposure.  相似文献

Apatite-type La10  xSi6  yAlyO27  3x/2  y/2 (x = 0–0.33; y = 0.5–1.5) exhibit predominant oxygen ionic conductivity in a wide range of oxygen partial pressures. The conductivity of silicates containing 26.50–26.75 oxygen atoms per formula unit is comparable to that of gadolinia-doped ceria at 770–870 K. The average thermal expansion coefficients are (8.7–10.8) × 10 6 K 1 at 373–1273 K. At temperatures above 1100 K, silicon oxide volatilization from the surface layers of apatite ceramics and a moderate degradation of the ionic transport with time are observed under reducing conditions, thus limiting the operation temperature of Si-containing solid electrolytes.  相似文献

The adsorption and desorption of the system CO/Pt(111) and C6H6/Pt(111) at 300 K has been investigated with a pulsed molecular beam method in combination with a microcalorimeter. For benzene the sticking probability has been measured in dependence of the coverage θ. For coverages θ > 0.8 transient adsorption is observed. From an analysis of the time-dependence of the molecular beam pulses the rate constant for desorption is determined to be 5.6 s? 1. With a precursor-mediated kinetic adsorption model this allows to obtain also the hopping rate constant of 95.5 s? 1. The measured adsorption enthalpies could be best described by (199 ? 77θ ? 51θ2) kJ/mol, in good agreement with the literature values. For CO on Pt(111) also transient adsorption has been observed for θ > 0.95 at 300 K. The kinetic analysis yields rate constants for desorption and hopping of 20 s?1 and 51 s?1, respectively. The heats of adsorption show a linear dependence on coverage (131 ? 38θ) kJ/mol between 0  θ  0.3, which is consistent with the desorption data from the literature. For higher coverage (up to θ = 0.9ML) a slope of ?63 kJ/mol describes the decrease of the differential heat of adsorption best. This result is only compatible with desorption experiments, if the pre-exponential factor decreases strongly at higher coverage. We found good agreement with recent quantum chemical calculations made for (θ = 0.5ML).  相似文献

In this paper, we compare and contrast the processes of nucleation and subsequent growth of single-atom wide metal chains formed when group III metals (Al, Ga, In) are deposited onto Si(1 0 0) at room-temperature (RT). Employing Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations, diffusion pathways on Si(1 0 0) surface are identified and their associated activation barriers are calculated. Then, the relative stabilities of various C-defect-pinned chains are examined by comparing the relevant adsorption energies. We also account for the observation that defect-nucleated chains grow on only one side of a C-defect by showing that the latter’s presence breaks the symmetry between the two previously equivalent binding sites on either side and rendering one much more stable than the other. Next, a growth model tailored for each group III metal/Si(1 0 0) system and incorporating the above results was simulated using Kinetic Monte Carlo (KMC) techniques to show that the surface morphologies generated by this model accurately reflect the observed ratio of homogeneously to heterogeneously nucleated chains. Finally, we examine through KMC simulations the consequences of the contrasting roles of a defect on In/Si(1 0 0) and Al/Si(1 0 0) – it captures adatoms in the former while it merely blocks direct adatom diffusion in the latter – on key quantities such as the mean island density.  相似文献

We present a summary of results of systematic first principles calculations of the electronic and geometric structures of the Cu2O(1 0 0) surface and the process of CO oxidation on this surface (energetics and pathways of adsorption, diffusion and reactions of CO and O2 on the surface). The (p, T) phase diagram of the Cu2O(1 0 0) in equilibrium of with gas phase O2 built using the ab initio thermodynamics approach suggests that the O-terminated surface is preferred over the Cu-terminated one within the entire ranges of pressures and temperatures in which the compound exists. Metastable Cu-terminated Cu2O(1 0 0) is found to undergo a surface reconstruction in agreement with experiment. We find CO to oxidize spontaneously on the O-terminated Cu2O(1 0 0) surface by consuming surface O atoms. Our calculations also show that the surface O-vacancies left in the course of the CO oxidation can be easily filled with dissociative adsorption of the gas phase O2 molecules, which are usually present in reaction environment.  相似文献

The adsorption of acetic acid is studied on clean and oxygen-covered Au/Pd(100) alloys as a function of gold content by temperature-programmed desorption and reflection–absorption infrared spectroscopy. Au/Pd(100) forms ordered alloys such that, for gold coverages above ~ 0.5 monolayers, only isolated palladium atoms surrounded by gold nearest neighbors are present. Predominantly molecular acetic acid forms on Au/Pd(100) alloy surfaces for gold coverages greater than ~ 0.56 ML, and desorbs with an activation energy of ~ 59 kJ/mol. Heating this surface also forms some η1-acetate species which decompose to form CO and hydrogen. On alloy surfaces with palladium–palladium bridge sites, η1-acetate species initially form, but rapidly convert into η2-species. They thermally decompose to form CO and hydrogen, with a small portion rehydrogenating to form acetic acid between 280 and 321 K depending on gold coverage. The presence of oxygen on both Pd(100) and Au/Pd(100) alloys facilitates acetate dehydrogenation so that only η2-acetate species form on these surfaces. The presence of oxygen also serves to stabilize the acetate species.  相似文献

The chemisorption of water (H2O and D2O) on a LaB6(100) surface was studied with reflection absorption infrared spectroscopy (RAIRS) and high resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (HREELS). The clean surface was exposed to H2O and D2O at temperatures from 90 K to room temperature, and spectra were acquired after heating to temperatures as high as 1200 K. It was found that water molecularly adsorbs on the surface at 90 K as a monomer at low coverages and as amorphous solid water at higher coverages. Water adsorbs dissociatively at room temperature to produce surface hydroxyl species as indicated by OH/OD stretch peaks at 3676/2701 cm?1. Room temperature adsorption also reveals low frequency loss features in HREEL spectra near 300 cm?1 that are quite similar to results obtained following the dissociative adsorption of O2. In the latter case, the loss features were attributed to the LaO stretch of O atoms bridge-bonded between two La atoms. In the case of dissociative adsorption of H2O, the low frequency loss features could be due to either the LaO vibrations of adsorbed O or of adsorbed OH.  相似文献

Layered Li(Ni0.5Co0.5)1−yFeyO2 cathodes with 0  y  0.2 have been synthesized by firing the coprecipitated hydroxides of the transition metals and lithium hydroxide at 700 °C and characterized as cathode materials for lithium ion batteries to various cutoff charge voltages (up to 4.5 V). While the y = 0.05 sample shows an improvement in capacity, cyclability, and rate capability, those with y = 0.1 and 0.2 exhibit a decline in electrochemical performance compared to the y = 0 sample. Structural characterization of the chemically delithiated Li1−x(Ni0.5Co0.5)1−yFeyO2 samples indicates that the initial O3 structure is maintained down to a lithium content (1  x)  0.3. For (1  x) < 0.3, while a P3 type phase is formed for the y = 0 sample, an O1 type phase is formed for the y = 0.05, 0.1 and 0.2 samples. Monitoring the average oxidation state of the transition metal ions with lithium contents (1  x) reveals that the system is chemically more stable down to a lower lithium content (1  x)  0.3 compared to the Li1−xCoO2 system. The improved structural and chemical stabilities appear to lead to better cyclability to higher cutoff charge voltages compared to that found before with the LiCoO2 system.  相似文献
