A numerical study on the dynamic response of a mechanical system composed of two coaxial cylinders in relative rotation and unilateral contact with Coulomb friction is presented. This discussion complements the semi-analytical results on stick–slip waves given in Moirot, Nguyen, C. R. Acad. Sci. Paris Sér. IIb 328 (2000) 663–669, by some numerical simulations on the dynamic transition of the system from a given initial state to a surface wave. The case of stick–slip–separation waves is considered. This Note studies the self-excited stick–slip oscillations of a rotary drilling system with a drag bit, using a discrete model which takes into consideration the axial and torsional vibration modes of the bit. Coupling between these two vibration modes takes place through a bit-rock interaction law which accounts for both frictional contact and cutting processes at the bit-rock interface. The cutting process introduces a delay in the equations of motion which is ultimately responsible for the existence of self-excited vibrations, exhibiting stick–slip oscillations under certain conditions. This study is in keeping with the general pattern of dynamical simulations of a set of rigid three-dimensional bodies submitted to unilateral contact constraints with dry friction. An exact formulation (respecting the contact and friction laws) of the problem of predicting the system accelerations and the contact status, in further evolution is proposed. A numerical treatment of this kind of nonlinear problem is presented. This approach is applied to a simple multi-contact example, and yields results in agreement with those of analytical and numerical type, known for this example. To cite this article: C. We consider a quasistatic problem of frictional contact between a viscoelastic body and a moving foundation. The contact is with wear and is modeled by normal compliance and a law of dry friction. The novelty in the model is that it allows for the diffusion of the wear debris over the potential contact surface. Such kind of phenomena arise in orthopaedic biomechanics and influence the properties of joint prosthesis. We derive a weak formulation of the problem and state that, under a smallness assumption on the problem data, there exists a unique weak solution for the model. In the end of the seventies, Schatzman and Moreau undertook to revisit the venerable dynamics of rigid bodies with contact and dry friction in the light of more recent mathematics. One claimed objective was to reach, for the first time, a mathematically consistent formulation of an initial value problem associated with the dynamics. The purpose of this article is to make a review of the today state-of-art concerning not only the formulation, but also the issues of existence and uniqueness of solution.  相似文献

We consider a fully discrete scheme for a quasistatic frictional contact problem between a viscoelastic body and an obstacle. The contact is bilateral, the friction is modeled with Tresca's law and the behavior of the material is described with a viscoelastic constitutive law with long memory. We state an existence and uniqueness result for the discrete solution, followed by error estimate results. Then, we present numerical simulations in the study of a two-dimensional test example.
