New polymer networks were prepared by free radical initiated copolymerization of crystallizable α,ω‐bismethacrylate‐terminated poly(octadecyl vinyl ether) (polyODVE) with butyl acrylate (BA). The polyODVE bismacromonomers were obtained by end‐capping the bifunctionally living cationic polymerization of ODVE with 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA). The segmented networks show a high degree of phase separation over a wide range of compositions. The shape memory properties of a material containing 20 wt.‐% of polyODVE are reported.  相似文献

Segmented polymer networks containing poly(methyl vinyl ether) (PMVE) segments were prepared by free‐radical‐initiated copolymerization of PMVE‐α,ω‐dimethacrylate with styrene or 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA). These networks were evaluated as thermo‐responsive solid‐phase extraction materials. Suspension‐derived polymer networks consisting of 80% of PMVE and 20% of HEMA adsorb toluene from an aqueous solution at 40°C and release the adsorbed toluene quantitatively at 20°C.  相似文献

A new family of α,ω‐bis(acrylamidopeptide)‐terminated macromonomers were prepared via the ring‐opening addition of 4,4‐dimethyl‐2‐vinyl‐ and 2‐isopropenyl‐4,4‐dimethyl‐oxazol‐5‐on to α,ω‐diamine‐terminated poly(ethylene oxide). These macromonomers were used to produce hydrogels by means of thermally induced free‐radical polymerization. Swelling behavior and mechanical properties of the resulting hydrogels were influenced by the macromonomer type and the crosslinking density, as reflected by the equilibrium water uptake.  相似文献

ω‐Hydroxy‐functionalized oligo(N‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidinone) (PVPOH) was prepared by chain‐transfer radical polymerization in the presence of 2‐isopropoxyethanol as the chain‐transfer agent, and grafted onto dextran. Two PVP‐Dex graft copolymers were obtained starting from different PVPOH/dextran weight ratios in the feed, namely 2 : 1 and 5 : 1. The variation of molecular weight distributions, combined with the results of solubility tests and of selective extractions in organic solvents, irrefutably confirmed the successful grafting reactions and the efficacy of the purification procedures applied.  相似文献

In this contribution, we reported a facile synthesis of poly(methyl methacrylate)‐block‐poly(N‐vinyl pyrrolidone) (PMMA‐b‐PVPy) diblock copolymers via sequential radical polymerizations mediated by isopropylxanthic disulfide (DIP). It was found that the radical polymerization of N‐vinyl pyrrolidone (NVP) mediated by DIP was in a controlled and living manner. In contrast, the polymerization of methyl methacrylate mediated by DIP displayed the behavior of telomerization, affording xanthate‐terminated PMMA with a good control of molecular weights while the conversion of monomer was not very high. The xanthate‐terminated PMMA can be successfully used as the macromolecular chain transfer agent for the polymerization of NVP via RAFT/MADIX process and thus PMMA‐b‐PVPy diblock copolymers can be successfully synthesized via sequential radical polymerization mediated by isopropylxanthic disulfide. One of these diblock copolymers was incorporated into polybenzoxazine and the nanostructured thermosets were obtained as evidenced by transmission electron microscopy, small angle X‐ray scattering, and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis. The formation of nanostructures in polybenzoxazine thermosets was ascribed to a reaction‐induced microphase separation mechanism. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Segmented polymer networks with LCST‐behavior have been prepared by free radical initiated copolymerization of α,ω‐bis‐methacrylate terminated poly(methyl vinyl ether) (PMVE) with 2‐hydroxy ethyl methacrylate (HEMA) or butyl acrylate (BA). The PMVE bis‐macromonomers have been obtained via a semi‐continuous process by end‐capping the living cationic polymerization of methyl vinyl ether (MVE) with HEMA. The phase separation temperature can be varied by changing the PMVE/comonomer ratio. Incorporation of PMVE‐grafts in the hydrogels increases the rate of deswelling and improves the mechanical properties. The application of the segmented networks for thermo‐controllable solid phase extraction has been demonstrated by their thermosensitive adsorption behavior of toluene from a water solution.  相似文献

Graft copolymers of poly(tulipalin A) (PT) and poly(DL‐lactide) (PDLLA) (PT‐g‐PDLLA) having various graft lengths and ratios were synthesized by free‐radical copolymerization of α‐methylene‐γ‐butyrolactone (MBL) and PDLLA macromonomers (HEMA‐PDLLA) terminated by 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA)‐terminated. HEMA‐PDLLA were synthesized by ring opening polymerization (ROP) of DL‐lactide in the presence of HEMA. Both HEMA‐PDLLA and the copolymers were characterized by NMR spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The thermal properties of the graft copolymers were found to depend on the graft length and the ratio. The copolymers consisting of PDLLA side chains of Mn = 500 Da showed a single Tg between Tgs of the two component polymers, suggesting a miscible state of PT and PDLLA. In contrast, the copolymers consisting of PDLLA side chains of Mn = 1100, 2000, and 7000 Da showed two isolated Tg, suggesting two segregated domains. The AFM phase images of the copolymers supported the single and phase‐separated morphologies for the former and latter systems, respectively. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined macromolecular brushes with poly(N‐isopropyl acrylamide) (PNIPAM) side chains on random copolymer backbones were synthesized by “grafting from” approach based on click chemistry and reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. To prepare macromolecular brushes, two linear random copolymers of 2‐(trimethylsilyloxy)ethyl methacrylate (HEMA‐TMS) and methyl methacrylate (MMA) (poly(MMA‐co‐HEMA‐TMS)) were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization and were subsequently derivated to azide‐containing polymers. Novel alkyne‐terminated RAFT chain transfer agent (CTA) was grafted to polymer backbones by copper‐catalyzed 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition (azide‐alkyne click chemistry), and macro‐RAFT CTAs were obtained. PNIPAM side chains were prepared by RAFT polymerization. The macromolecular brushes have well‐defined structures, controlled molecular weights, and molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn ≦ 1.23). The RAFT polymerization of NIPAM exhibited pseudo‐first‐order kinetics and a linear molecular weight dependence on monomer conversion, and no detectable termination was observed in the polymerization. The macromolecular brushes can self‐assemble into micelles in aqueous solution. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 48: 443–453, 2010  相似文献

The stereospecific living radical polymerizations of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) were achieved with a combination of ruthenium‐catalyzed living radical and solvent‐mediated stereospecific radical polymerizations. Among a series of ruthenium complexes [RuCl2(PPh3)3, Ru(Ind)Cl(PPh3)2, and RuCp*Cl(PPh3)2], Cp*–ruthenium afforded poly(methyl methacrylate) with highly controlled molecular weights [weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight (Mw/Mn) = 1.08] and high syndiotacticity (r = 88%) in a fluoroalcohol such as (CF3)2C(Ph)OH at 0 °C. On the other hand, a hydroxy‐functionalized monomer, HEMA, was polymerized with RuCp*Cl(PPh3)2 in N,N‐dimethylformamide and N,N‐dimethylacetamide (DMA) to give syndiotactic polymers (r = 87–88%) with controlled molecular weights (Mw/Mn = 1.12–1.16). This was the first example of the syndiospecific living radical polymerization of HEMA. A fluoroalcohol [(CF3)2C(Ph)OH], which induced the syndiospecific radical polymerization of MMA, reduced the syndiospecificity in the HEMA polymerization to result in more or less atactic polymers (mm/mr/rr = 7.2/40.9/51.9%) with controlled molecular weights in the presence of RuCp*Cl(PPh3)2 at 80 °C. A successive living radical polymerization of HEMA in two solvents, first DMA followed by (CF3)2C(Ph)OH, resulted in stereoblock poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) with syndiotactic–atactic segments. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new graft copolymer, poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate‐co‐styrene) ‐graft‐poly(?‐caprolactone), was prepared by combination of reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization (RAFT) with coordination‐insertion ring‐opening polymerization (ROP). The copolymerization of styrene (St) and 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) was carried out at 60 °C in the presence of 2‐phenylprop‐2‐yl dithiobenzoate (PPDTB) using AIBN as initiator. The molecular weight of poly (2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate‐co‐styrene) [poly(HEMA‐co‐St)] increased with the monomer conversion, and the molecular weight distribution was in the range of 1.09 ~ 1.39. The ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ?‐caprolactone was then initiated by the hydroxyl groups of the poly(HEMA‐co‐St) precursors in the presence of stannous octoate (Sn(Oct)2). GPC and 1H‐NMR data demonstrated the polymerization courses are under control, and nearly all hydroxyl groups took part in the initiation. The efficiency of grafting was very high. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 5523–5529, 2004  相似文献

The molecular modeling of the product distributions for the intermolecular metathesis degradation of cis‐poly(butadiene) (cis‐PB) in the presence of ethylene as chain‐transfer agent (CTA) at 298.15 K using the B3LYP/6‐31G (d, p) level of theory reveals that chain–ring and chain‐chain equilibria are shifted toward the formation of 1,5‐hexadiene. The amount of cyclic oligomers at equilibrium with linear molecules is negligible. The α,ω‐vinyl‐terminated butadiene oligomers–1,5‐hexadiene equilibrium constant depends on the cis/trans isomer ratio in linear butadiene molecules. While the concentration of 1,5‐hexadiene at equilibrium with cis‐butadiene oligomers is 86 mol‐%, this value for trans‐butadiene oligomers corresponds to 50 mol‐% of 1,5‐hexadiene. The results of calculations are in reasonable agreement with recent experimental data on the intermolecular metathesis of 1,4‐cis‐PB with ethylene using a well‐defined ruthenium alkylidene catalyst. The calculations predict that cis‐butene as a CTA is more efficient in the metathesis depolymerization of cis‐PB compared with ethylene.  相似文献

Summary: The bromine chain ends of well‐defined polystyrene ( = 2 700 g · mol−1, = 1.11) prepared using ATRP were successfully transformed into various functional end groups (ω‐hydroxy, ω‐carboxyl and ω‐methyl‐vinyl) by a two‐step pathway: (1) substitution of the bromine terminal atom by an azide function and (2) 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition of the terminal azide and functional alkynes (propargyl alcohol, propiolic acid and 2‐methyl‐1‐buten‐3‐yne). The “click” cycloaddition was catalyzed efficiently by the system copper bromide/4,4′‐di‐(5‐nonyl)‐2,2′‐bipyridine. In all cases, 1H NMR spectra indicated quantitative transformation of the chain ends of polystyrene into the desired function.

Because of the growing importance of pH‐sensitive hydrogels as drug delivery systems, biocompatible copolymeric hydrogels based N‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidinone (NVP) and methacrylic acid (MAA) were designed and synthesized. These hydrogels were investigated for oral drug delivery. Radical copolymerizations of N‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidinone (NVP) and methacrylic acid (MAA) with the various ratios of cross‐linking agent were carried out at 70 °C. Azabisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) was the free‐radical initiator employed and Cubane‐1,4‐dicarboxylic acid (CDA) linked to two 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) group was the crosslinking agent (CA) used for hydrogel preparations. The hydrogels were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry and FT‐IR. Equilibrium swelling studies were carried out in enzyme‐free simulated gastric and intestinal fluids (SGF and SIF, respectively). A model drug, olsalazine [3,3′‐azobis (6‐hydroxy benzoic acid)] (OSZ) as an azo derivative of 5‐aminosalicylic acid (5‐ASA), was entrapped in these gels and the in‐vitro release profiles were established separately in both enzyme‐free SGF and SIF. The drug‐release profiles indicated that the amount of drug released depended on the degree of swelling. The swelling was modulated by the amount of crosslinking of the polymer bonded drug (PBDs) prepared. Based on the great difference in hydrolysis rates at pH 1 and 7.4, these pH‐sensitive hydrogels appear to be good candidates for colon‐specific drug delivery.  相似文献

The chloroiodomethyl chain ends of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) obtained by the single‐electron‐transfer/degenerative‐chain‐transfer mediated living radical polymerization of vinyl chloride initiated with iodoform were quantitatively functionalized by the reaction with 2‐allyloxyethanol (CH2?CHCH2OCH2CH2OH). This reaction was performed in dimethyl sulfoxide at 70 °C and was catalyzed by sodium dithionite/sodium bicarbonate. The resulting product is the first example of telechelic PVC [α,ω‐di(hydroxy)PVC]. A possible mechanism for this reaction was suggested. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We demonstrated that density functional theory calculations provide a reliable and quantitative prediction of the trends in C? S bond dissociation energies using several model compounds as photoinitiator. On the basis of this information, we designed a possible photofunctional initiator for the polymerization of hydrophilic vinyl monomers. Photopolymerization of 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) hydrophilic monomer was carried out in ethanol initiated by 2‐(N,N‐diethyldithiocarbamyl)isobutyric acid (DTCA) under UV irradiation. We performed the first‐order time‐conversion plots in this polymerization system, and the straight line in the semilogarithmic coordinates indicated first order in monomer. The molecular weight of the poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA) increased with increasing conversion. The molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) of the PHEMA was about 1.5. Methyl methacrylate (MMA) could also be polymerized in a living fashion with such a PHEMA precursor as a macroinitiator because PHEMA exhibited a dithiocarbamate (DC) group at its terminal end. This system could be applied to the architecture of amphiphilic block copolymers. It was concluded that these polymerization systems proceeded with controlled radical mechanism. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 76–82, 2004  相似文献

A well‐defined amphiphilic copolymer of ‐poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) linked with comb‐shaped [poly(styrene‐co‐2‐hydeoxyethyl methacrylate)‐graft‐poly(ε‐caprolactone)] (PEO‐b‐P(St‐co‐HEMA)‐g‐PCL) was successfully synthesized by combination of reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization (RAFT) with ring‐opening anionic polymerization and coordination–insertion ring‐opening polymerization (ROP). The α‐methoxy poly(ethylene oxide) (mPEO) with ω,3‐benzylsulfanylthiocarbonylsufanylpropionic acid (BSPA) end group (mPEO‐BSPA) was prepared by the reaction of mPEO with 3‐benzylsulfanylthiocarbonylsufanyl propionic acid chloride (BSPAC), and the reaction efficiency was close to 100%; then the mPEO‐BSPA was used as a macro‐RAFT agent for the copolymerization of styrene (St) and 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) using 2,2‐azobisisobutyronitrile as initiator. The molecular weight of copolymer PEO‐b‐P(St‐co‐HEMA) increased with the monomer conversion, but the molecular weight distribution was a little wide. The influence of molecular weight of macro‐RAFT agent on the polymerization procedure was discussed. The ROP of ε‐caprolactone was then completed by initiation of hydroxyl groups of the PEO‐b‐P(St‐co‐HEMA) precursors in the presence of stannous octoate (Sn(Oct)2). Thus, the amphiphilic copolymer of linear PEO linked with comb‐like P(St‐co‐HEMA)‐g‐PCL was obtained. The final and intermediate products were characterized in detail by NMR, GPC, and UV. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 44: 467–476, 2006  相似文献

Biobased, unsaturated polyesters derived from isosorbide, maleic anhydride, and succinic acid were synthesized and characterized. The presence of maleic anhydride units in the structure of the polyesters allowed converting them into cured coatings by radical copolymerization with crosslinking agents such as 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate, N‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidinone, acrylic acid or methacrylamide. The investigated polyesters were obtained via bulk polycondensation, catalyzed by titanium(IV) n‐butoxide. 2D NMR and MALDI‐Tof‐MS spectroscopy proved that this polymerization resulted in isomerization of maleic acid units into fumaric ones and in the formation of slightly branched structures by the reaction of isosorbide (end) groups with main chain unsaturated bonds. Moreover, some double bonds proved to have reacted with the condensation by‐product water. The resulting polyesters displayed the expected correlation between variables such as molecular weight and content of unsaturated bonds and their Tg values. Since the thermal properties of the obtained polyesters were appropriate for coating applications, the polymers were crosslinked with unsaturated monomers by radical copolymerization. The crosslinking process was studied using FTIR spectroscopy and by measurements of the soluble part of the cured coatings. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Regioregular poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐b‐poly(1H,1H‐dihydro perfluorooctyl methacrylate) (P3HT‐b‐PFOMA) diblock copolymers were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization of fluorooctyl methacrylate using bromoester terminated poly(3‐hexylthiophene) macroinitiators in order to investigate their morphological properties. The P3HT macroinitiator was previously prepared by chemical modification of hydroxy terminated P3HT. The block copolymers were well characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography. Transmission electron microscopy was used to investigate the nanostructured morphology of the diblock copolymers. The block copolymers are able to undergo microphase separation and self‐assemble into well‐defined and organized nanofibrillar‐like micellar morphology. The development of the morphology of P3HT‐b‐PFOMA block copolymers was investigated after annealing in solvent vapor and also in supercritical CO2. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(N‐vinyl pyrrolidone)‐block‐poly(N‐vinyl carbazole)‐block‐poly(N‐vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP‐b‐PVK‐b‐PVP) triblock copolymers were synthesized via sequential reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer/macromolecular design via the interchange of xanthate (RAFT/MADIX) process. First, 1,4‐phenylenebis(methylene)bis(ethyl xanthate) was used as a chain transfer agent to mediate the radical polymerization of N‐vinyl carbazole (NVK). It was found that the polymerization was in a controlled and living manner. Second, one of α,ω‐dixanthate‐terminated PVKs was used as the macromolecular chain transfer agent to mediate the radical polymerization of N‐vinyl pyrrolidone (NVP) to obtain the triblock copolymers with various lengths of PVP blocks. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed that the triblock copolymers in bulks were microphase‐separated and that PVK blocks were self‐organized into cylindrical microdomains, depending on the lengths of PVP blocks. In aqueous solutions, all these triblock copolymers can self‐assemble into the spherical micelles. The critical micelle concentrations of the triblock copolymers were determined without external adding fluorescence probe. By analyzing the change in fluorescence intensity as functions of the concentration, it was judged that the onset of micellization occurred at the concentration while the FL intensity began negatively to deviate from the initial linear increase with the concentration. Fluorescence spectroscopy indicates that the self‐assembled nanoobjects of the PVP‐b‐PVK‐b‐PVP triblock copolymers in water were capable of emitting blue/or purple fluorescence under the irradiation of ultraviolet light. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. α‐Hydroxy and α,ω‐dihydroxy polymers of 2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) of various molecular weights were synthesized by group transfer polymerization (GTP) in tetrahydrofuran (THF), using 1‐methoxy‐1‐(trimethylsiloxy)‐2‐methyl propene (MTS) as the initiator and tetrabutylammonium bibenzoate (TBABB) as the catalyst. The hydroxyl groups were introduced by adding one 2‐(trimethylsiloxy) ethyl methacrylate (TMSEMA) unit at one or at both ends of the polymer chain. The ends were converted to 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) units after the polymerization by acid‐catalyzed hydrolysis. Gel permeation chromatography (GPC) in THF and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H‐NMR) spectroscopy in CDCl3 were used to determine the molecular weight and composition of the polymers. These mono‐ and difunctional methacrylate polymers can be covalently linked at the hydroxy termini to form star polymers and model networks, respectively. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
