Block copolymers create various types of nano‐structures, e. g., spheres, rods, cubes, and lamellae. This review discloses the dynamic macromolecular organization of block copolymers comprising poly(L ‐lactide) (PLLA) and poly(oxyethylene) (PEG) that allows to simulate elaborate biological systems. The block copolymers, AB‐ (PLLA‐PEG) and ABA‐type (PLLA‐PEG‐PLLA), are synthesized by ordinary lactide polymerization to have a controlled block length. They are dispersed into an aqueous medium to prepare nano‐scale particles, consisting of hydrophobic PLLA and hydrophilic PEG in the core and shell, respectively. Then, the particles are placed on a flat substrate by the casting method. The particles are detected as discoids by AFM, having shrunk with loss of water. Heat‐treatment of these particles at 60°C (above Tg of PLLA) gives rise to a collapse into small fragments, which then aggregate into bands with nano‐size width and thickness. The PLLA‐PEG bands align parallel to each other, while the PLLA‐PEG‐PLLA bands form a characteristic network resembling the neuron system created in animal tissue. As analyzed by TEM diffraction, each is composed of α‐crystal of PLLA whose c‐axis (molecular axis) is perpendicular to the substrate surface. Based on this fact, a doubly twisted chain structure of PLLA is proposed in addition to a plausible mechanism for the self‐organization of the block copolymers. Derivatives of the PLLA‐PEG block copolymers can form far more interesting nano‐architectures. An equimolar mixture of enantiomeric copolymers, PLLA‐PEG‐PLLA and PDLA‐PEG‐PDLA, forms a hydrogel that is thermo‐responsive. The terminal‐modified poly(L ‐lactide)‐block‐polyoxyethylene monocinnamate (PLLA‐PEG‐C) forms a highly stabilized nanofiber by the photo‐reaction of the cinnamates placed in the outer layer of the nanobands.  相似文献

Linear and four‐armed poly(l ‐lactide)‐block‐poly(d ‐lactide) (PLLA‐b‐PDLA) block copolymers are synthesized by ring‐opening polymerization of d ‐lactide on the end hydroxyl of linear and four‐armed PLLA prepolymers. DSC results indicate that the melting temperature and melting enthalpies of poly (lactide) stereocomplex in the copolymers are obviously lower than corresponding linear and four‐armed PLLA/PDLA blends. Compared with the four‐armed PLLA‐b‐PDLA copolymer, the similar linear PLLA‐b‐PDLA shows higher melting temperature (212.3 °C) and larger melting enthalpy (70.6 J g?1). After these copolymers blend with additional neat PLAs, DSC, and WAXD results show that the stereocomplex formation between free PLA molecular chain and enantiomeric PLA block is the major stereocomplex formation. In the linear copolymer/linear PLA blends, the stereocomplex crystallites (sc) as well as homochiral crystallites (hc) form in the copolymer/PLA cast films. However, in the four‐armed copolymer/linear PLA blends, both sc and hc develop in the four‐armed PLLA‐b‐PDLA/PDLA specimen, which means that the stereocomplexation mainly forms between free PDLA molecule and the inside PLLA block, and the outside PDLA block could form some microcrystallites. Although the melting enthalpies of stereocomplexes in the blends are smaller than that of neat copolymers, only two‐thirds of the molecular chains participate in the stereocomplex formation, and the crystallization efficiency strengthens. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Starburst triblock copolymers consisting of 8‐arm poly(ethylene glycol) (8‐arm PEG) and biodegradable poly(L ‐lactide) (PLLA) or its enantiomer poly(D ‐lactide) (PDLA), 8‐arm PEG‐b‐PLLA‐b‐PEG ( Stri‐L ), and 8‐arm PEG‐b‐PDLA‐b‐PEG ( Stri‐D ) were synthesized. An aqueous solution of a 1:1 mixture ( Stri‐Mix ) of Stri‐L and Stri‐D assumed a sol state at room temperature, but instantaneously formed a physically crosslinked hydrogel in response to increasing temperature. The resulting hydrogel exhibited a high‐storage modulus (9.8 kPa) at 37 °C. Interestingly, once formed at the transition temperature, the hydrogel was stable even after cooling below the transition temperature. The hydrogel formation process was irreversible because of the formation of stable stereocomplexes. In aqueous solution, gradual hydrolytic erosion was observed because of degradation of the hydrogel. The combination of rapid temperature‐triggered irreversible hydrogel formation, high‐mechanical strength, and degradation behavior render this polymer mixture system suitable for use in injectable biomedical materials, for example, as a drug delivery system for bioactive reagents or a biodegradable scaffold for tissue engineering. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A mixed suspension of the enantiomeric B-A-B triblock copolymers, polyoxyethylene-block-poly(L-lactide)-block-polyoxyethylene (PEG-PLLA-PEG) and polyoxyethylene-block-poly(D-lactide)-block-polyoxyethylene (PEG-PDLA-PEG), was found to induce reversible gel-to-sol transition depending on the polymer concentration and temperature. The storage and loss moduli of the gel formed at lower temperature were much higher than those of the gel prepared from the corresponding ABA-type triblock copolymers because of the higher polymer concentration in the former. Although the stereo-complexation of the PLLA and PDLA blocks occurred at higher temperature also in the B-A-B copolymers, it was not responsible for the gelation of the mixed suspension. The PEG chains, involved in the helix formation of the PLLA and PDLA, should form helices with opposite helical senses to aggregate and lead the gelation of the system.  相似文献

Novel poly(l ‐lactide) (PLLA)/poly(d ‐lactide) (PDLA)/poly(tetrahydrofuran) (PTHF) multiblock copolymers with designed molecular structure were synthesized by a two‐stage procedure. Well‐defined PDLA‐PLLA‐PTHF‐PLLA‐PDLA pentablock copolymers were prepared by sequential ring opening polymerization of l ‐ and d ‐lactides starting from PTHF glycol, with the length of the (equimolar) PLLA and PDLA blocks being varied. Then, these dihydroxyl‐terminated pentamers were transformed into multiblock copolymers by melt chain‐extension with hexamethylene diisocyanate–being the first time that the coupling of pentablock units is reported. The successful formation of macromolecular chains with a multiblock and well‐defined architecture was demonstrated by 1H NMR spectroscopy. The thermal properties and structuring of the resulting materials were investigated by means of DSC and WAXD measurements and DMA analysis. Stereocomplexation was found to be promoted during solution and melt crystallization. This approach affords materials combining the high rigidity and strength (other than improved thermal resistance) of the hard stereocomplex crystallites with the flexibility imparted by the soft block, whereby their properties can be finely tailored through the composition of the basic pentablock units without limitations on the final molecular weight. The adopted reaction conditions make this process highly appealing in view of the possibility to perform it in extruder. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Di‐stereoblock polylactides (di‐sb‐PLA: PLLA‐b‐PDLA) having high molecular weight (Mn > 100 kDa) were successfully synthesized by two‐step ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of L ‐ and D ‐lactides using tin(2‐ethylhexanoate) as a catalyst. By optimizing the polymerization conditions, the block sequences were well regulated at non‐equivalent feed ratios of PLLA and PDLA. This synthetic method consisted of three stages: (1) polymerization of either L ‐ or D ‐lactide to obtain a PLLA or PDLA prepolymer with a molecular weight less than 50 kDa, (2) purification of the obtained prepolymer to remove residual lactide, and (3) polymerization of the enantiomeric lactide in the presence of the purified prepolymer. Their 13C and 31P NMR spectra of the resultant di‐sb‐PLAs strongly supported their di‐stereo block structure. These di‐sb‐PLAs, having weight‐average molecular weights higher than 150 kDa, were fabricated into polymer films by solution casting and showed exclusive stereocomplexation. The thermomechanical analysis of the films revealed that their heat deformation temperature was limited probably because of their low crystallinity owing to the non‐equivalent PLLA/PDLA ratio. The blend systems of the di‐sb‐PLAs having complementary stereo‐sequences (the one with a long PLLA block and the other with long PDLA block) were also prepared and characterized to enhance the sc crystallinity. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The nanocompsites of star‐shaped poly(D‐lactide)‐co‐poly(L‐lactide) stereoblock copolymers (s‐PDLA‐PLLA) with two‐dimensional graphene nanosheets (GNSs) were prepared by solution mixing method. Crystallization behaviors were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry, polarized optical microscopy, and wide angle X‐ray diffraction. The results of isothermal crystallization behaviors of the nanocompsites clearly indicated that the GNS could remarkably accelerate the overall crystallization rate of s‐PDLA‐PLLA copolymer. Unique stereocomplex crystallites with melting temperature about 207.0°C formed in isothermal crystallization for all samples. The crystallization temperatures of s‐PDLA‐PLLAs shifted to higher temperatures, and the crystallization peak shapes became sharper with increasing GNS contents. The maximum crystallization temperature of the sample with 3 wt% GNS was about 128.2°C, ie, 15°C higher than pure s‐PDLA‐PLLA. At isothermal crystallization processes, the halftime of crystallization (t0.5) of the sample with 3 wt% GNS decreased to 6.4 minutes from 12.9 minutes of pure s‐PDLA‐PLLA at 160°C.The Avrami exponent n values for the nanocomposites samples were 2.6 to 3.0 indicating the crystallization mechanism with three‐dimensional heterogeneous nucleation and spherulites growth. The morphology and average diameter of spherulites of s‐PDLA‐PLLA with various GNS contents were observed in isothermal crystallization processes by polarized optical microscopy. Spherulite growth rates of samples were evaluated by using combined isothermal and nonisothermal procedures and analyzed by the secondary nucleation theory. The results evidenced that the GNS has acceleration effects on the crystallization of s‐PDLA‐PLLA with good nucleation ability in the s‐PDLA‐PLLA material.  相似文献

Ring-opening polymerization of L(D)-lactide was realized in the presence of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG), yielding PLLA/PEG and PDLA/PEG block copolymers. Bioresorbable hydrogels were prepared from aqueous solutions containing both copolymers due to interactions and stereocomplexation between PLLA and PDLA blocks. The rheological properties of the hydrogels were investigated under various conditions by changing copolymer concentration, temperature, time and frequency. The hydrogels constitute a dynamic and evolutive system because of continuous formation/destruction of crosslinks and degradation. Drug release studies were performed on hydrogel systems containing bovine serum albumin (BSA). The release profiles appear almost constant with little burst effect. The release rate depends not only on gelation conditions such as time and temperature, but also on factors such as drug load, as well as molar mass and concentration of the copolymers.  相似文献

Random and block copolymerizations of L ‐ or D ‐lactide with ε‐caprolactone (CL) were performed with a novel anionic initiator, (C5Me5)2SmMe(THF), and they resulted in partial epimerization, generating D ,L ‐ or meso‐lactide polymers with enhanced biodegradability. A blend of PLLA‐r‐PCL [82/18; PLLA = poly(L ‐LA) and PCL = poly(ε‐caprolactone)] and PDLA‐r‐PCL [79/21; PDLA = poly(D ‐LA)] prepared by the solution‐casting method generated a stereocomplex, the melting temperature of which was about 40 °C higher than that of the nonblended copolymers. A blend of PLLA‐b‐PCL (85/15) and PDLA‐b‐PCL (82/18) showed a lower elongation at break and a remarkably higher tensile modulus than stereocomplexes of PLLA‐r‐PCL/PDLA‐r‐PCL and PLLA/PDLA. The biodegradability of a blend of PLLA‐r‐PCL (65/35) and PDLA‐r‐PCL (66/34) with proteinase K was higher than that of PLLA‐b‐PCL (47/53) and PDLA‐b‐PCL (45/55), the degradability of which was higher than that of a PLLA/PDLA blend. A blend film of PLLA‐r‐PDLLA (69/31)/PDLA‐r‐PDLLA (68/32) exhibited higher degradability than a film of PLLA/PDLLA [PDLLA = poly(D ,L ‐LA)]. A stereocomplex of PLLA‐r‐PCL‐r‐PDMO [80/18/2; PDMO = poly(L ‐3,D ,L ‐6‐dimethyl‐2,5‐morpholinedion)] with PDLA‐r‐PCL‐r‐PDMO (81/17/2) showed higher degradability than PLLA‐r‐PDMO (98/2)/PDLA‐r‐PDMO (98/2) and PLLA‐r‐PCL (82/18)/PDLA‐r‐PCL (79/21) blends. The tensile modulus of a blend of PLLA‐r‐PCL‐r‐PDMO and PDLA‐r‐PCL‐r‐PDMO was much higher than that of a blend of PLLA‐r‐PDMO and PDLA‐r‐PDMO. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An AB diblock copolymer of poly(L ‐lactide) (PLLA) and poly(oxyethylene) (PEG) with a cinnamate terminal in the PEG block was prepared by the copolymerization of L ‐lactide and partially end‐modified PEG followed by fractionation. The first step was the terminal modification of PEG with cinnamoyl chloride (CC), in which the degree of cinnamoylation of the hydroxyl terminals of PEG was roughly controlled by the feed ratio of both reactants. The resultant PEG cinnamate was subjected to copolymerization with L ‐lactide to produce a mixture of unreacted PEG dicinnamate (C‐PEG‐C), the diblock copolymer (PLLA‐PEG‐C), and the triblock copolymer (PLLA‐PEG‐PLLA) corresponding to the three components of the PEG cinnamate. This mixture was separated by phase fluctuation chromatography (PFC) to obtain PLLA‐PEG‐C in sufficient purity. This process, involving the stoichiometric control of the terminal reaction of telechelic oligomers and the utilization of PFC for fractionation, can be an efficient method for synthesizing end‐functionalized diblock copolymers from readily available telechelic oligomers. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Poly(L‐lactide) (PLLA) composites with TiO2‐g‐poly(D‐lactide) (PDLA), which was synthesized by surface‐initiated opening ring polymerization with TiO2 as initiator and Sn(Oct)2 as catalyst, were prepared by solution casting. The synthesized TiO2‐g‐PDLA was characterized by transmission electron microscope (TEM) and dynamic laser scattering (DLS), showing larger size corresponding to that of TiO2. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR) and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurements were further carried out and indicated that PDLA was grafted onto TiO2 through covalent bond. For PLLA/TiO2‐g‐PDLA composites, the stereocomplex crystallites were formed between PDLA grafted on the surface of TiO2 and the PLLA matrix, which was determined by FT‐IR, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and X‐ray diffractometer (XRD). The influence of stereocomplex crystallites on the rheological behavior of PLLA/TiO2‐g‐PDLA was investigated by rheometer, which showed greater improvement of rheological properties compared to that of PLLA/TiO2 composites especially with a percolation content of TiO2‐g‐PDLA between 3 wt%–5 wt%. The crystallization and melting behavior of PLLA/TiO2‐g‐PDLA composites were studied by DSC under different thermal treatment conditions. The formed PLA stereocomplex network acted as nucleating agents and a special interphase on the functional surface of TiO2, which resulted in imperfect PLLA crystal with lower melting temperature. When the thermal treatment was close to the melting temperature of PLA stereocomplex, the crystallinity approached to the maximum. The isothermal crystallization study by polarizing microscope (POM) indicated that stereocomplex network presented stronger nucleation capacity than TiO2‐g‐PDLA. Nanoparticles formed from amphiphilic block copolymers can be used as drug delivery vehicles for hydrophilic therapeutics. Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)‐peptide copolymers were investigated for their self‐assembling properties and as consequent potential delivery systems. Mono‐ and dihydroxy PEGs were functionalized with a pentavaline sequence bearing Fmoc end groups. The molecular weight of the PEG component was varied to evaluate copolymer size and block number. These di‐ and tri‐block copolymers readily self‐assemble in aqueous solution with critical aggregation concentrations (CACs) of 0.46–16.29 μM. At concentrations above the CAC, copolymer solutions form spherical assemblies. Dynamic light scattering studies indicate these aggregates have a broad size distribution, with average diameters between 33 and 127 nm. The copolymers are comprised β‐conformations that are stable up to 80 °C, as observed by circular dichroism. This peptide secondary structure is retained in solutions up to 50% MeOH as well. The triblock copolymers proved to be the most stable, with copolymers synthesized from 10 kDa PEG having the most stable particles. Loading of carboxyfluorescein at 2–5 mol % shows that these copolymers have the potential to encapsulate hydrophilic drugs for delivery applications. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The aqueous solution behavior and thermoreversible gelation properties of pyridine‐end‐functionalized poly(ethylene glycol)–poly(L ‐lactide) (PEG–(PLLA)8–py) star block copolymers in the presence of coordinating transition metal ions were studied. In aqueous solutions, the macromonomers self‐assembled into micelles and micellar aggregates at low concentrations and formed physically crosslinked, thermoreversible hydrogels above a critical gel concentration (CGC) of 8% w/v. In the presence of transition metal ions like Cu(II), Co(II), or Mn(II), the aggregate dimensions increased. Above the CGC, the gel–sol transition shifted to higher temperatures due to the formation of additional crosslinks from intermolecular coordination complexes between metal ions and pyridine ligands. Furthermore, as an example, PEG–(PLLA)8–py hydrogels stabilized by Mn(II)–pyridine coordination complexes were more resistant against degradation/dissolution when placed in phosphate buffered saline at 37 °C when compared with hydrogels prepared in water. Importantly, the stabilizing effect of metal–ligand coordination was noticeable at very low Cu(II) concentrations, which have been reported to be noncytotoxic for fibroblasts in vitro. These novel PEG–(PLLA)8–py metallo‐hydrogels, which are the first systems to combine metal–ligand coordination with the advantageous properties of PEG–PLLA copolymer hydrogels, are appealing materials that may find use in biomedical as well as environmental applications like the removal of heavy metal ions from waste streams. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effects of comb‐like amphiphilic block copolymer architectures on the physical properties such as sol‐gel transition and micellization behaviors with the change of temperature and pH were examined. Comb‐like poly((poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐(poly(lactic acid‐co‐glycolic acid))acrylate‐co‐acrylic acid) (poly((PEG‐b‐PLGA)A‐co‐AA)) copolymers were synthesized by coupling of poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) with two different kinds of PEG‐b‐PLGA diblock copolymers to investigate the effects of the number of branches and hydrophilicity/hydrophobicity on the sol‐gel transition and micellization. The molecular weights and chemical structures were confirmed by GPC and 1H NMR. The number of PEG‐b‐PLGA branches was gradually deviated from the feed molar ratio with increasing the molecular weight and the number of branches and due to the bulkiness of PEG‐b‐PLGA. Poly[(PEG‐b‐PLGA)A‐co‐AA] aqueous solutions showed thermosensitive sol‐gel transition behavior, and the gelation took place at lower concentration with increasing the number of branches and PLGA chain length due to the increase of hydrophobicity. The temperature, at which abrupt increase of viscosity by dynamic rheometer appeared, was also in good agreement with sol‐gel transition by tube‐titling method. The CMC, calculated from UV‐Visible spectroscopy using DPH as hydrophobic dye, also decreased with increasing the number of PEG‐b‐PLGA branches and PLGA chain length with same reason. The micelle size was increased with increasing temperature at the initial stage, however, decreased with further increase of temperature, since the micelles were, first, aggregated by hydrophobic intermolecular interaction, and then fragmented by dehydration of PEG segments with increasing temperature. PH‐sensitive PAA backbone played a key role in physical properties. With decreasing pH, sol‐to‐gel transition temperature, CMC values, and micelle size were decreased because of the increase of hydrophobicity resulting form non‐ionized acrylic acid. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel biodegradable amphiphilic graft copolymers containing hydrophobic poly(ester‐carbonate) backbone and hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) side chains were synthesized by a combination of ring‐opening polymerization and “click” chemistry. First, the ring‐opening copolymerization of 5,5‐dibromomethyl trimethylene carbonate (DBTC) and ε‐caprolactone (CL) was performed in the presence of stannous octanoate [Sn(Oct)2] as catalyst, resulting in poly(DBTC‐co‐CL) with pendant bromo groups. Then the pendant bromo groups were completely converted into azide form, which permitted “click” reaction with alkyne‐terminated PEG by Huisgen 1,3‐dipolar cycloadditions to give amphiphilic biodegradable graft copolymers. The graft copolymers were characterized by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), Fourier transform infrared spectra and gel permeation chromatography measurements, which confirmed the well‐defined graft architecture. These copolymers could self‐assemble into micelles in aqueous solution. The size and morphologies of the copolymer micelles were measured by transmission electron microscopy and dynamic light scattering, which are influenced by the length of PEG and grafting density. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A magnesium complex of the type {ONNN}Mg‐HMDS wherein {ONNN} is a sequential tetradentate monoanionic ligand is introduced. In the presence of an alcohol initiator this complex catalyzes the living and immortal homopolymerization of the lactide enantiomers and ?‐caprolactone at room‐temperature with exceptionally high activities, as well as the precise block copolymerization of these monomers in a one‐pot synthesis by sequential monomer addition. Copolymers of unprecedented microstructures such as the PCL‐b‐PLLA‐b‐PDLA and PDLA‐b‐PLLA‐b‐PCL‐b‐PLLA‐b‐PDLA block–stereoblock microstructures that feature unique thermal properties are readily accessed.  相似文献

The confined crystallization behavior, melting behavior, and nonisothermal crystallization kinetics of the poly(ethylene glycol) block (PEG) in poly(L ‐lactide)–poly(ethylene glycol) (PLLA–PEG) diblock copolymers were investigated with wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry. The analysis showed that the nonisothermal crystallization behavior changed from fitting the Ozawa equation and the Avrami equation modified by Jeziorny to deviating from them with the molecular weight of the poly(L ‐lactide) (PLLA) block increasing. This resulted from the gradual strengthening of the confined effect, which was imposed by the crystallization of the PLLA block. The nucleation mechanism of the PEG block of PLLA15000–PEG5000 at a larger degree of supercooling was different from that of PLLA2500–PEG5000, PLLA5000–PEG5000, and PEG5000 (the numbers after PEG and PLLA denote the molecular weights of the PEG and PLLA blocks, respectively). They were homogeneous nucleation and heterogeneous nucleation, respectively. The PLLA block bonded chemically with the PEG block and increased the crystallization activation energy, but it provided nucleating sites for the crystallization of the PEG block, and the crystallization rate rose when it was heterogeneous nucleation. The number of melting peaks was three and one for the PEG homopolymer and the PEG block of the diblock copolymers, respectively. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article reports the synthesis and the properties of novel thermoplastic elastomers of A‐B‐A type triblock copolymer structure, where the hard segment A is poly(l ‐lactide) (PLLA) and the soft segment B is poly(ε‐caprolactone‐stat‐d ,l ‐lactide) (P(CL‐stat‐DLLA)). The P(CL‐stat‐DLLA) block with DLLA content of 30 mol % was applied because of its amorphous nature and low glass transition temperature (Tg = approximately ?40 °C). Successive polymerization of l ‐lactide afforded PLLA‐block‐P(CL‐stat‐DLLA)‐block‐PLLAs, which exhibited melting temperature (Tm = approximately 150 °C) for the crystalline PLLA segments and still low Tg (approximately ?30 °C) of the soft segments. The triblock copolymers showed very high elongation at break up to approximately 2800% and elastic properties. The corresponding d ‐triblock copolymers, PDLA‐block‐P(CL‐stat‐DLLA)‐block‐PDLAs (PDLA = poly(d ‐lactide)) were also prepared with the same procedure using d ‐lactide in place of l ‐lactide. When the PLLA‐block‐P(CL‐stat‐DLLA)‐block‐PLLA was blended with PDLA‐block‐P(CL‐stat‐DLLA)‐block‐PDLA, stereocomplex crystals were formed to enhance their Tm as well as tensile properties. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The thermal properties, crystallization, and morphology of amphiphilic poly(D ‐lactide)‐b‐poly(N,N‐dimethylamino‐2‐ethyl methacrylate) (PDLA‐b‐PDMAEMA) and poly (L ‐lactide)‐b‐poly(N,N‐dimethylamino‐2‐ethyl methacrylate) (PLLA‐b‐PDMAEMA) copolymers were studied and compared to those of the corresponding poly(lactide) homopolymers. Additionally, stereocomplexation of these copolymers was studied. The crystallization kinetics of the PLA blocks was retarded by the presence of the PDMAEMA block. The studied copolymers were found to be miscible in the melt and the glassy state. The Avrami theory was able to predict the entire crystallization range of the PLA isothermal overall crystallization. The melting points of PLDA/PLLA and PLA/PLA‐b‐PDMAEMA stereocomplexes were higher than those formed by copolymer mixtures. This indicates that the PDMAEMA block is influencing the stability of the stereocomplex structures. For the low molecular weight samples, the stereocomplexes particles exhibited a conventional disk‐shape structure and, for high molecular weight samples, the particles displayed unusual star‐like shape morphology. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The blends of poly(1,3‐trimethylene carbonate‐b‐(l ‐lactide‐ran‐glycolide)) (PTLG) with poly(d ‐lactide) (PDLA) were prepared via solution‐casting method using CH2Cl2 as solvent. The poly(l ‐lactide) (PLLA) segments of PTLG with PDLA chain constructed as stereocomplex structures and growth stereocomplex crystals of PLA (sc‐PLA). The effects of sc‐PLA crystals on thermal behavior, mechanical properties, thermal decomposition of the PTLG/PDLA blends were investigated, respectively. The differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD) results showed that the total crystallinity of the PTLG/PDLA blends was increased with the PDLA content increasing. Heterogeneous nucleation of sc‐PLA crystals induced crystallization of the PLLA segments in PTLG. The crystallization temperature of samples shifted to 107.5°C for the PTLG/PDLA‐20 blends compared with that of the PTLG matrix, and decreased the half‐time of crystallization. The mechanical measurement results indicated that the tensile strength of the PTLG/PDLA blends was improved from 21.1 MPa of the PTLG matrix to 39.5 MPa of PTLG/PDLA‐20 blends. The results of kinetics of thermal decomposition of the PTLG/PDLA blends by TGA showed that the apparent activation energy of the PTLG/PDLA blends was increased from 59.1 to 72.1 kJ/mol with the increasing of the PDLA content from 3 wt% to 20 wt%, which indicated the enhancement of thermal stability of the PTLG/PDLA blends by addition of PDLA. Furthermore, the biocompatibility of the PTLG/PDLA blends cultured with human adipose‐derived stem cells was evaluated by CCK‐8 and live/dead staining. The experiment results proved the PTLG/PDLA blends were a kind of biomaterial with excellent physical performances with very low cytotoxicity.  相似文献
