We consider flow in a centrifugal force field of a non-dilute suspension with particles or droplets of two sizes. The volume fraction and the velocity fields are determined assuming small convection and shear terms. The resulting flow field is quite different from that in a gravitational settling of a similar mixture. In particular, the volume fraction is a function of time and radius in the sectors separated by kinematic shocks and the settling velocity is a non-monotonic function of the particle size.  相似文献

采用格子Boltzmann方法(LBM)对雷诺数范围为5≤Re≤12的双颗粒沉降进行了直接数值模拟研究,主要关注颗粒之间的密度差异k对其周期性振动的影响。根据雷诺数颗粒沉降特性可以分成三个阶段,即当Re较小时,颗粒的振动幅度随k的增大而减小,当Re较大时则正好相反,介于两者之间存在一个临界雷诺数,在此雷诺数附近,颗粒的沉降同时具有以上两种特征。同时还研究了两个颗粒的稳定沉降结构以及重颗粒摆脱轻颗粒的条件。  相似文献

采用格子Boltzmann-虚拟区域方法对雷诺数范围为50≤Re≤200的双颗粒自由沉降进行了直接数值模拟。首先,研究发现双颗粒最终沉降的位置分别在通道的1/4和3/4位置附近,且与颗粒的初始间距、雷诺数以及通道宽度无关。其次,重点研究了颗粒沉降过程中所受的侧向力(与沉降方向垂直),首次揭示了侧向力的振动频率与雷诺数呈二次关系,且单颗粒的结果始终小于双颗粒的结果;研究还发现侧向力的振动频率与通道宽度近似呈幂律函数关系,且幂律指数与雷诺数有关,雷诺数越大,幂律指数的绝对值越小。最后还研究了雷诺数及通道宽度对侧向力振动振幅的影响。  相似文献

When substantial numbers of buoyant particles are mixed with a sedimenting suspension of heavy particles, the two types of solids undergo rapid lateral segregation from each other. Streams 3–5 mm in diameter containing the less populous species form and flow through a concentrated continuum suspension of the more populous species. This buoyancy driven convection results in greatly enhanced sedimentation rates. A theory is developed on the premise that streams move in plug flow with all resistance to motion confined to a thin lubricating layer at the strean-continuum interface. The model is compared with experimental data and is shown to account correctly for the effect of each system parameter on the observed settling rates.  相似文献

The dynamic behavior of individual particles during the mixing/segregation process of particle mixtures in a gas fluidized bed is analyzed. The analysis is based on the results generated from discrete particle simulation, with the focus on the trajectory of and forces acting on individual particles.Typical particles are selected representing three kinds of particle motion:a flotsam particle which is initially at the bottom part of the bed and finally fluidized at the top part of the bed; a jetsam particle which is initially at the top part of the bed and finally stays in the bottom de-fluidized layer of the bed; and a jetsam particle which is intermittently joining the top fluidized and bottom de-fluidized layers. The results show that the motion of a particle is chaotic at macroscopic or global scale, but can be well explained at a microscopic scale in terms of its interaction forces and contact conditions with other particles, particle-fluid interaction force, and local flow structure. They also highlight the need for establishing a suitable method to link the information generated and modeled at different time and length scales.  相似文献

Summary In this paper there is a synthetic presentation of the theoretical principles of the phase difference method for the simultaneous measurements of size, velocity and concentration of particles dispersed in fluid, its application to spherical glass particles free falling in water at rest, and the measured velocity and concentration fields of the particles in a settling tank model. Particles with diameter between 75÷150 m were used. The method used seems reliable in obtaining the necessary information to analyze the performance of settling tanks in relation to the influencing factors the particles settling.
Sommario In questo articolo sono presentati in forma sintetica i principi teorici del metodo della differenza di fase per la misura simultanea di velocità, dimensione e concentrazione di particelle disperse in un fluido, ed un'applicazione di tale metodo al caso di particelle di vetro, di dimensioni fra i 75–150 m, disperse in acqua. Le misure effettuate sono relative alla sedimentazione di particelle in acqua in quiete ed ai campi di velocità e concentrazione delle particelle che si realizzano in un modello fisico di vasca di sedimentazione rettangolare. I risultati ottenuti sembrano confermare l'adeguatezza del metodo impiegato per analizzare l'efficienza delle vasche di sedimentazione in relazione ai fattori che influenzano la sedimentazione di particelle.

通过材料密度均匀性分析得知,泡沫材料密度分布的均匀性越差,尺寸的影响越明显,对于密度分布区间小、并符合正态分布的试件,尺寸的影响较小。根据Hopkinson杆动态测试的应力均匀性假定,利用石英片监测试件左右端面达到应力均匀所需的时间,试件轴向尺寸越大,惯性效应的影响也越大。选择合适的尺寸,将试件的惯性效应(波动效应)与应变率效应解耦,结果表明,泡沫材料具有一定的应变率效应  相似文献

The present paper examines the stream-wise dispersion of suspended fine particles with settling velocities in an oscillatory turbulent shear flow with or without a non-zero mean over a rough-bed surface when the particles are being released from an elevated continuous source. A finite-difference implicit method is employed to solve the unsteady turbulent convective-diffusion equation. A combined scheme of central and four-point upwind differences is used to solve the steady state equation and the Alternating Direction Implicit (ADI) method is adopted for unsteady equation. It is shown how the mixing of settling particles is influenced by the tidal oscillatory current and the corresponding eddy diffusivity when the initial distribution of concentration regarded as a line-source. The vertical concentration profiles of suspended fine particles with settling velocities are presented for different downstream stations for various values of settling velocity and the frequency of the oscillation in tidal flow. For two-dimensional unsteady dispersion equation, the behaviour of iso-concentration lines for different values of settling velocity, frequency of the oscillation, dispersion time and releasing height is studied in terms of the relative importance of convection and eddy diffusion.  相似文献

The calculation of settling speed of coarse particles is firstly addressed, with accelerated Stokesian dynamics without adjustable parameters, in which far field force acting on the particle instead of particle velocity is chosen as dependent variables to consider inter-particle hydrodynamic interactions. The sedimentation of a simple cubic array of spherical particles is simulated and compared to the results available to verify and validate the numerical code and computational scheme. The improved method keeps the same computational cost of the order O(NlogN) as usual accelerated Stokesian dynamics does. Then, more realistic random suspension sedimentation is investigated with the help of Mont Carlo method. The computational results agree well with experimental fitting. Finally, the sedimentation of finer cohesive particle, which is often observed in estuary environment, is presented as a further application in coastal engineering.  相似文献

This paper presents the result of two schemes concerning computational effort reduction in discrete element simulations (DEM) of binary mixtures. Numerical triaxial compression simulations were performed. The coarse ellipsoids and the fine ellipsoids have similar shapes, but the sizes are significantly different. Computational effort reduction can be achieved by increasing the density of individual particles so that a greater time step can be used in DEM. Two different mass increase schemes are investigated. The result indicates that both schemes provide a speedup. Similar results can be produced with the correct damping.  相似文献

The knowledge of the conditions in which particles denser than fluid settle is important in many areas of engineering, environmental sciences, meteorology, etc.For particle flows influenced by vortices, research mainly related to steady horizontal vortices has been undertaken. In this paper we determine the influence of the inclination of the vortex axis in the gravitational settling of particles.The results obtained, in relation to the trajectories, are qualitatively similar to previous ones for horizontal vortices. The main difference is this: in a horizontal vortex particles always remain in a plane perpendicular to the vortex axis and in an inclined vortex (angle θ) particles do not remain on that plane because there is a component vtcosθ that takes them out.The average fall velocity 〈vz〉 has an asymptote to the dimensionless terminal velocity vt; this tendency is faster as the Stokes Number St increases and as vt decreases. A fundamental result is the following: as θ decreases, vt is reached faster because the component of the velocity u of the Rankine vortex over the Oz direction is small and because the vt component that tries to keep the particles in a plane perpendicular to the vortex axis is small, so the vortex takes action over the particles for a small period of time.  相似文献

Particle migration in a horizontal flow of dilute suspension through a vertical slot with porous walls is studied using the two-continua approach. The lateral migration is induced by two opposite effects: an inertial lift force due to particle settling and directed toward the slot centre-line, and a drag due to leak-off entraining particles toward the walls. An expression for the inertial lift on a settling particle in a horizontal channel flow found recently is generalized to the case of a low leak-off velocity. The evolution of an initial uniform particle concentration profile is studied within the full Lagrangian approach. Four migration regimes are found differing by the direction of particle migration and numbers of equilibrium positions. Conditions of the regime change and a critical value of dimensionless leak-off velocity for particle deposition on the walls are obtained analytically. Suspension flows with zones where the particle concentration is zero or increases infinitely, are studied numerically.  相似文献

Fatigue experiments of polycrystalline copper with different grain sizes and texture were conducted under tension–compression, torsion, and non-proportional loading. The grain sizes ranged from 10 μm to 2 mm. The stress–strain response was found to be a strong function of the grain size and texture. A plasticity-based critical plane multiaxial fatigue criterion was used to predict the fatigue lives of the polycrystalline copper. It was found that the criterion was able to correlate all the experimental results with one single set of material constants. This indicates that the fatigue failure of the material under consideration is dominated by the fatigue resistance of the grains with an insignificant influence of the grain boundaries on the fatigue of the polycrystalline material. It was found that the fatigue model with the material constants obtained from fatigue experiments can be applied to predict failure under monotonic torsion.  相似文献
