We prove the existence of continuously differentiable solutions with required asymptotic properties as t +0 and determine the number of solutions of the following Cauchy problem for a functional differential equation:
where : (0, ) (0, +), g: (0, ) (0, +), and h: (0, ) (0, +) are continuous functions, 0 < g(t) t, 0 < h(t) t, t (0, ), , and the function is continuous in a certain domain.  相似文献

Let < SL n ( ) be a subgroup of finite index, where n 5. Suppose acts continuously on a manifold M, where 1(M) = n , preserving a measure that is positive on open sets. Further assume that the induced action on H 1(M) is non-trivial. We show there exists a finite index subgroup < and a equivariant continuous map : M n that induces an isomorphism on fundamental group. We prove more general results providing continuous quotients in cases where 1(M) surjects onto a finitely generated torsion free nilpotent group. We also give some new examples of manifolds with actions.  相似文献

We illustrate the use of white noise analysis in the solution of stochastic partial differential equations by explicitly solving the stochastic Neumann boundary-value problem LU(x)–c(x)U(x)=0, xDR d ,(x)U(x)=–W(x), xD, where L is a uniformly elliptic linear partial differential operator and W(x), xR d , is d-parameter white noise.  相似文献

Summary This paper is concerned with the rate of convergence to zero of theL pmetrics np1p, constructed out of differences between distribution functions, for departure from normality for normed sums of independent and identically distributed random variables with zero mean and unit variance. It is shown that the np are, under broad conditions, asymptotically equivalent in the strong sense that, for 1p, p, np/np is universally bounded away from zero and infinity asn.  相似文献

Given a locally convex spaceE we define thelocally convex algebra of kernels , in such a way that the set of all its proper closed 2-sided ideals coincides with the set of all closed vector subspaces of ker(h), whereh is a continuous algebra morphism of into b (E). Moreover,h is a strictly irreducible representation such that every representation: ; b (F) (F a locally convex space) is of the form =oh, where stands for a continuous isomorphis ofIm(h) into b (F), for a suitable topology onIm(h).  相似文献

Let G be a graph with order p, size q and component number . For each i between p – and q, let be the family of spanning i-edge subgraphs of G with exactly components. For an integer-valued graphical invariant if H H is an adjacent edge transformation (AET) implies |(H)-(H')|1 then is said to be continuous with respect to AET. Similarly define the continuity of with respect to simple edge transformation (SET). Let M j() and m j() be the invariants defined by . It is proved that both M p–() and m p–(;) interpolate over , if is continuous with respect to AET, and that M j() and m j() interpolate over , if is continuous with respect to SET. In this way a lot of known interpolation results, including a theorem due to Schuster etc., are generalized.  相似文献

We consider the nonlinear diffusion equationu t –a(x, u x x )+b(x, u)=g(x, u) with initial boundary conditions andu(t, 0)=u(t, 1)=0. Here,a, b, andg denote some real functions which are monotonically increasing with respect to the second variable. Then, the corresponding stationary problem has a positive solution if and only if(0, *) or(0, *]. The endpoint * can be estimated by , where 1 u denotes the first eigenvalue of the stationary problem linearized at the pointu. The minimal positive steady state solutions are stable with respect to the nonlinear parabolic equation.

The NavierStokes problem in a plane domain with two angular outlets to infinity is provided, as usual, either with the flux condition or with the pressure drop one. For small data it is proved that there exists a solution with the decay O(|x|-1) of the velocity field as |x| (if one of the angles is equal to or greater than , then additional symmetry assumptions are needed). Since the nonlinear and linear terms are asymptotically of the same power, the results are based on a complete investigation of the linearized Stokes problem in weighted spaces with a detached asymptotics (the angular parts in the representations are not fixed). An invariant based on orderedK-theory with coefficients in n>1 /n and an infinite number of natural transformations has proved to be necessary and sufficient to classify a large class of nonsimple C* -algebras. In this paper, we expose and explain the relations between the order structure and the ideals of the C* -algebras in question. As an application, we give a new complete invariant for a large class of approximately subhomogeneous C*-algebras. The invariant is based on ordered K-theory with coefficients in /. This invariant is more compact (hence, easier to compute) than the invariant mentioned above, and its use requires computation of only four natural transformations.  相似文献

Summary Let (, , ) be a perfect probability space with countably generated, and let IB be a family of sub--fields of . Under a countability condition on the family IB, I show that there exists a family {}IB of regular conditional probabilities which are everywhere compatible. Under a more stringent condition on IB, I show that the can furthermore be chosen to be everywhere proper. It follows that in the Dobrushin-Lanford-Ruelle formulation of the statistical mechanics of classical lattice systems, every (perfect) probability measure is a Gibbs measure for some specification.Research supported in part by NSF PHY-78-23952NSF Predoctoral Fellow (1976–79) and Danforth Fellow (1979–81).  相似文献

Summary Let x denote the time at which a random walk with finite positive mean first passes into (x, ), wherex0. This paper establishes the asymptotic behaviour of Pr { x >n} asn for fixedx in two cases. In the first case the left hand tail of the step-distribution is regularly varying, and in the second the step-distribution satisfies a one-sided Cramér type condition. As a corollary, it follows that in the first case Pr { x >n}/Pr{ 0 >n} coincides with the limit of the same quantity for recurrent random walk satisfying Spitzer's condition, but in the second case the limit is more complicated.  相似文献

Following earlier work of Tits [8], this paper deals with the structure of buildings which are not necessarily thick; that is, possessing panels (faces of codimension 1) which are contained in two chambers, only. To every building , there is canonically associated a thick building whose Weyl group W( ) can be considered as a reflection subgroup of the Weyl group W() of . One can reconstruct from together with the embedding W( ) W(). Conversely, if is any thick building and W any reflection group containing W( ) as a reflection subgroup, there exists a weak building with Weyl group W and associated thick building .  相似文献

In this article the topologically exact sequences of locally convex spaces are characterized for which for every locally convex space F the map id : FE F Q is a homomorphism, or equivalently, the map id L : FK F E is a topological injection. This is motivated by the problem of lifting Q-valued functions with certain given properties to E-valued functions with the same or slightly weaker properties, which may also be considered as the investigation of parameter dependences of solutions of linear (differential) equations. Applications to partial differential equations and to Fredholm functions are given.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the linear signal response analysis of a thin viscous liquid sheet which is at rest in an appropriate frame of reference and in contact with passive external media, and on which localized external pressures act from the passive media as sources of perturbation. The frame of the analysis is provided by general formulae for the response signals of the sheet in the two excitation modes, sinuous and varicose, which result as the solution of the appropriate fluid dynamic initial-boundary value problems by the Fourier-Laplace transform technique. These formulae display how the signals depend on the nature of the perturbation and on the spectrum of the (linear) eigenmodes of the sheet. The signals can be evaluated either numerically or, as initiated in this paper, analytically, in long wave approximations. The long wave approximation will be seen in the sequel to concentrate on particular eigenmodes of the sheet spectrum, with small values k of the wave vector along the sheet. The present paper is devoted mainly to a detailed analysis of the spectrum of eigenmodes of the sheet, and to the formulation of long wave approximations of (linear) response signals of the sheet in the context of this analysis. It turns out that the sheet spectrum of eigenmodes depends on only one characteristic number , which depends on the (positive) fluid parameters: the surface tension at (both) the interfaces of the sheet, the density of the fluid, its kinematic viscosity , and on the thickness h of the sheet: This number is closely related, by to the Ohnesorge number where is the dynamic viscosity of the liquid. It will be shown in the sequel that of the infinitely many branches of the sheet spectrum only two (pairs of) soft branches, one sinuous and one varicose, will be relevant for a long wave approximation. For these branches asymptotic expansions of the dispersion relations (k) between the (complex) mode frequencies and for long waves (i.e. for k  0), which obey (k)  0 with k  0, will be derived. The analytic long wave dispersion relations for the (soft) sinuous and varicose spectral branches allow a very favourable insight into the qualitative mode behaviour, including analogies beyond liquid sheets. They show e.g. that to their lowest orders in k the soft sinuous modes are nondispersive, i.e. and only weakly absorptive, i.e.   k2 for low viscosity and   k4 for high viscosity ( < 0). Their signals are therefore expected to have some resemblance to signals of a flexible membrane on the one side and those of a (2-dimensional) diffusion process, or a hyperdiffusion process where is replaced by The behaviour of the soft varicose modes will be seen to depend on the value of : For 2 < 4 the asymptotic expansion for k  0 gives
and   k2( < 0), i.e. the modes are purely absorptive, like those of (ordinary) diffusion processes. For 2 > 4 the situation is different: here and   k2 ( < 0). This behaviour bears resemblance to the vibration modes of a thin elastic plate with (diffusion-like) damping. The asymptotic insight into the behaviour of the individual branches of spectral modes allows the derivation of rather transparent approximate analytic expressions for the response signals of the sheet to external perturbations.Received: August 11, 2003; revised: August 10, 2004  相似文献

Given and a sequence of Dirichlet polynomials estimates for the coefficientsa n are proved if {n} is uniformly bounded on a region containing a half plane. Thereby a result is obtained which is an analogue of a known result for polynomials, that is for theA-transforms of the geometric sequence; moreover a Jentzsch type theorem for {n(z)} is derived.  相似文献
