Perturbation of semi-Browder linear relations by commuting Riesz operators

This paper is devoted to the investigation of the stability of upper semi-Browder, lower semi-Browder and Browder linear relations which satisfy the stabilization property, under commuting Riesz operator perturbations. As applications, we infer the invariance of the corresponding Browder’s essential approximate point spectrum, Browder’s essential defect spectrum and Browder’s essential spectrum under commuting Riesz operator perturbations.     

Coperturbation function and lower semi-Browder multivalued linear operators

In this article, we investigate the perturbation theory of lower semi-Browder and Browder linear relations. Our approach is based on the concept of a coperturbation function for linear relations in order to establish some perturbation theorems and deduce the stability under strictly cosingular operator perturbations. Furthermore, we apply the obtained results to study the invariance and the characterization of Browder's essential defect spectrum and Browder's essential spectrum.     

Essential,Weyl and Browder spectra of unbounded upper triangular operator matrices

This paper is concerned with the spectral properties of the unbounded upper triangular operator matrix with diagonal domain. Some sufficient and necessary conditions are given under which the essential spectrum, the Weyl spectrum and the Browder spectrum of such operator matrix, respectively, coincide with the union of the essential spectrum, the Weyl spectrum and the Browder spectrum of its diagonal entries.     

Perturbations Results for Some Classes Related to Browder Linear Relations and Applications

This paper is devoted to the investigation of the perturbation problem of right (left) Browder linear relations and lower (upper) semi-Browder linear relations under commuting compact linear relations. Further, our results are used to show the invariance of Browder’s spectrum.

On the filling in holes problem for operator matrices

We consider upper-triangular 2-by-2 operator matrices and are interested in the set that has to be added to certain spectra of the matrix in order to get the union of the corresponding spectra of the two diagonal operators. We show that in the cases of the Browder essential approximate point spectrum, the upper semi-Fredholm spectrum, or the lower semi-Fredholm spectrum the set in question need not to be an open set but may be just a singleton. In addition, we modify and extend known results on Hilbert space operators to operators on Banach spaces.

Weak and strong convergence of an inertial proximal method for solving Ky Fan minimax inequalities

In this paper we present the relaxed inertial proximal algorithm for Ky Fan minimax inequalities. Based on Opial lemma, we propose a weak convergence result to a solution of the problem by eliminating in the algorithm (RIPAFAN) the Browder–Halpern’s factor of contraction. We present after, a first result of strong convergence by adding a strong monotonicity condition. Secondly, we eliminate the strong monotonicity and add a Browder–Halpern’s contraction factor in the algorithm (RIPAFAN) and then ensure the strong convergence to a selected solution with respect to the contraction factor. Some examples are proposed. The first one concerns the convex minimization where the objective function is only controlled with a provided well conditioning. In the second one, we propose monotone set-valued variational inequalities. The last example deals with the problem of fixed point for a nonexpansive set-valued operator.     

On the Weak Semi-continuity of Vector Functions and Minimum Problems

Lower semi-continuity from above or upper semi-continuity from below has been used by many authors in recent papers. In this paper, we first study the weak semi-continuity for vector functions having particular form as that of Browder in ordered normed vector spaces; we obtain several new results on the lower semi-continuity from above or upper semi-continuity from below for these vector functions. Our results generalize some well-known results of Browder in scalar case. Secondly, we study the minimum or maximum problems for vector functions satisfying lower semi-continuous from above or upper semi-continuous from below conditions; several new results on the existence of minimal points or maximal points are obtained. We also use these results to study vector equilibrium problems and von Neumann’s minimax principle in ordered normed vector spaces.

Around Browder’s fixed point theorem for contractions

We revisit a fixed point theorem for contractions established by Felix Browder in 1968. We show that many definitions of contractive mappings which appeared in the literature after 1968 turn out to be equivalent formulations or even particular cases of Browder’s definition. We also discuss the problem of the existence of approximate fixed points of continuous mappings; in particular, we settle it in the affirmative for Browder contractions. Finally, we recall three problems concerning Browder contractions which remain unsolved. With great respect for Professor Felix E. Browder     

Essential point spectra of operator matrices trough local spectral theory

For A∈B(X), B∈B(Y) and C∈B(Y,X), let MC be the operator defined on X⊕Y by . In this paper, we study defect set (Σ(A)∪Σ(B))?Σ(MC), where Σ is the Browder spectrum, the essential approximate point spectrum and Browder essential approximate point spectrum. We then give application for Weyl's and Browder's theorems.     

The Taylor–Browder Spectrum on Prime C*-Algebras

We provide a formula for the Taylor–Browder spectrum of a pair (L _a , R _b ) of left and right multiplication operators acting on a prime C*-algebra with non-zero socle. We also compute ascent and descent for multiplication operators on a prime ring, characterise Browder elements in a prime C*-algebra and discuss upper semicontinuity for the Browder spectrum.     

On a characterization of the essential spectra of the sum and the product of two operators

In this paper, we consider the sum and the product of two operators acting on a Banach space and we present some new and quite general conditions to investigate their Wolf, Schechter and Browder essential spectra.     

On the spectrum of the Laplacian

In this article we prove a generalization of Weyl’s criterion for the essential spectrum of a self-adjoint operator on a Hilbert space. We then apply this criterion to the Laplacian on functions over open manifolds and get new results for its essential spectrum.     

Existence theorems via duality for equilibrium problems with trifunctions

We present an existence result for an equilibrium problem formulated with trifunctions, which is motivated by variational inequalities governed by quasimonotone operators. To prove the existence result, we define the dual problem, and some monotonicity notions for trifunctions. From the main result follow, among others, the Browder–Minty theorem for variational inequalities and Ky Fan’s Minimax theorem. Some applications for mixed equilibrium problems and variational inequalities are given.     

Weyl spectra and Weyl's theorem

Two variants of the Weyl spectrum are discussed. We find, for example, that if one of them coincides with the Browder spectrum then Weyl's theorem holds, and conversely for isoloid operators.     

Essential spectra of operator matrices and applications

The main goal of this paper is to give a characterization of Wolf, Schechter, and Browder essential spectra of (2 × 2) matrix operator on a Banach space. Furthermore, we apply the obtained results to transport equations. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Browder’s Theorems through Localized SVEP

A bounded linear operator T ∈ L(X) on aBanach space X is said to satisfy “Browder’s theorem” if the Browder spectrum coincides with the Weyl spectrum. T ∈ L(X) is said to satisfy “a-Browder’s theorem” if the upper semi-Browder spectrum coincides with the approximate point Weyl spectrum. In this note we give several characterizations of operators satisfying these theorems. Most of these characterizations are obtained by using a localized version of the single-valued extension property of T. In the last part we shall give some characterizations of operators for which “Weyl’s theorem” holds.
