The magnetic susceptibility, high field magnetization, and specific heat measurements of Cu3(CO3)2(OH)2, which is a model substance for the frustrating diamond spin chain model, have been performed using single crystals. Two broad peaks are observed at around 20 and 5 K in both magnetic susceptibility and specific heat results. The magnetization curve has a clear plateau at one third of the saturation magnetization. The experimental results are examined in terms of theoretical expectations based on exact diagonalization and density matrix renormalization group methods. An origin of magnetic anisotropy is also discussed.  相似文献

We used the Jordan–Wigner transform and the invariant eigenoperator method to study the magnetic phase diagram and the magnetization curve of the spin-1/2 alternating ferrimagnetic diamond chain in an external magnetic field at finite temperature. The magnetization versus external magnetic field curve exhibits a 1/3 magnetization plateau at absolute zero and finite temperatures, and the width of the 1/3 magnetization plateau was modulated by tuning the temperature and the exchange interactions. Three critical magnetic field intensities H_(CB), H_(CE) and H_(CS) were obtained, in which the H_(CB) and H_(CE) correspond to the appearance and disappearance of the 1/3 magnetization plateau, respectively, and the higher H_(CS) correspond to the appearance of fully polarized magnetization plateau of the system. The energies of elementary excitation ωσ,k(σ = 1, 2, 3) present the extrema of zero at the three critical magnetic fields at 0 K, i.e., [hω_(3,k)(HCB)]_(min)= 0, [hω_(2,k)(H_(CE))]_(max)= 0 and [hω _(2,k)(H_(CS))]_(min)= 0, and the magnetic phase diagram of magnetic field versus different exchange interactions at 0 K was established by the above relationships. According to the relationships between the system's magnetization curve at finite temperatures and the critical magnetic field intensities, the magnetic field-temperature phase diagram was drawn. It was observed that if the magnetic phase diagram shows a three-phase critical point, which is intersected by the ferrimagnetic phase, the ferrimagnetic plateau phase, and the Luttinger liquid phase, the disappearance of the1/3 magnetization plateau would inevitably occur. However, the 1/3 magnetization plateau would not disappear without the three-phase critical point. The appearance of the 1/3 magnetization plateau in the low temperature region is the macroscopic manifestations of quantum effect.  相似文献

We study S=1 kagome antiferromagnets with an isotropic Heisenberg exchange J and strong easy-axis single-ion anisotropy D. For D>J, the low-energy physics can be described by an effective S=1/2 XXZ model with antiferromagnetic Jz approximately J and ferromagnetic J perpendicular approximately J2/D. Exploiting this connection, we argue that nontrivial ordering into a "spin-nematic" occurs whenever D dominates over J, and discuss its experimental signatures. We also study a magnetic field induced transition to a magnetization plateau state at magnetization 1/3 which breaks lattice translation symmetry due to ordering of the Sz and occupies a lobe in the B/Jz-Jz/J perpendicular phase diagram.  相似文献

The magnetization of the geometrically frustrated spinel CdCr2O4 was measured in pulsed fields of up to 47 T. We found a metamagnetic transition to a very wide magnetization plateau state with one half of the full moment of S=3/2 Cr3+ at 28 T, independent of the field direction. This is the first observation of magnetization plateau state realized in Heisenberg pyrochlore magnet. The plateau state can be ascribed to a collinear spin configuration with three-up and one-down spins out of four spins of each Cr tetrahedron. A large magnetostriction is observed at the transition in spite of the negligible spin-orbit couplings. We argue that spin frustration plays a vital role in this large spin-lattice coupling.  相似文献

We study the effect of spin-lattice coupling on triangular and kagome antiferromagnets and find that even moderate couplings can induce complex collinear orders. On coupling classical Heisenberg spins on the triangular lattice to Einstein phonons, a rich variety of phases emerge including the experimentally observed four sublattice state and the five sublattice 1/5th plateau state seen in the magnetoelectric material CuFeO(2). Also, we predict magnetization plateaus at 1/3, 3/7, 1/2, 3/5, and 5/7 at these couplings. Strong spin-lattice couplings induce a striped collinear state, seen in alpha-NaFeO(2) and MnBr(2). On the kagome lattice, moderate spin-lattice couplings induce collinear order, but an extensive degeneracy remains.  相似文献

We report pulse-field magnetization, ac susceptibility, and 100 GHz electron spin resonance (ESR) measurements on the S = 5/2 two-dimensional triangular compound Ba3NbFe3Si2O14 with the Néel temperature T(N) = 26 K. The magnetization curve shows an almost linear increase up to 60 T with no indication of a one-third magnetization plateau. An unusually large frequency dependence of the ac susceptibility in the temperature range of T = 20-100 K reveals a spin-glass behavior or superparamagnetism, signaling the presence of frustration-related slow magnetic fluctuations. The temperature dependence of the ESR linewidth exhibits two distinct critical regimes; (i) ΔH(pp)(T) is proportional to (T-T(N))(-p) with the exponent p = 0.2(1)-0.2(3) for temperatures above 27 K, and (ii) ΔH(pp)(T) is proportional to (T-T*)(-p) with T* = 12 K and p = 0.8(1)-0.8(4) for temperatures between 12 and 27 K. This is interpreted as indicating a dimensional crossover of magnetic interactions and the persistence of short-range correlations with a helically ordered state.  相似文献

The magnetization, M(H< or =30 T,0.7< or =T< or =300 K), of (C5H12N)2CuBr4 has been used to identify this system as an S = 1/2 Heisenberg two-leg ladder in the strong-coupling limit, J( perpendicular) = 13.3 K and J( parallel) = 3.8 K, with H(c1) = 6.6 T and H(c2) = 14.6 T. An inflection point in M(H,T = 0.7 K) at half saturation, M(s)/2, is described by an effective XXZ chain. The data exhibit universal scaling behavior in the vicinity of H(c1) and H(c2), indicating that the system is near a quantum critical point.  相似文献

对含有次近邻节点自旋交换耦合的自旋-1/2伊辛-海森伯钻石链体系进行了研究,利用矩阵对角化和传递矩阵方法对基态磁相和宏观热力学量进行了严格求解,重点探讨了所有交换耦合均为反铁磁耦合时,体系节点伊辛自旋间次近邻相互作用的影响.研究结果表明次近邻节点伊辛自旋存在反铁磁耦合时会增强系统的阻挫效应,引入破坏平移对称性的经典亚铁磁相,使基态呈现出上上上下上上的自旋构型以及磁化曲线新颖的2/3磁化平台,丰富了体系的基态相图和宏观磁性行为.  相似文献

We investigate the quantum phase transition (QPT) and magnetocaloric effect (MCE) of a tetrameric chain with three-spin interaction using Green's function theory. The magnetization and gap analysis reveals a variety of quantum phases tuned by magnetic field and three-spin interaction, which can open up an energy gap, giving rise to the occurrence of zero magnetization plateau. However, strong three-spin couplings causing strong frustration will destroy the intermediate 1/2 plateau with emergence of a new gapless phase between two cusps. It favors achieving an enhanced MCE at the critical fields, where the minima of isoentropes as well as the valley-peak structure of Grüneisen ratio, signaling the accumulation of entropy, lead to cooling via adiabatic (de)magnetization processes. It is also found that the temperature dependence of specific heat combined with Grüneisen ratio can testify various quantum phases explicitly.  相似文献

NMR and magnetization measurements in Li2VOSiO4 and Li2VOGeO4 are reported. The analysis of the susceptibility shows that both compounds are two-dimensional S = 1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnets on a square lattice with a sizable frustration induced by the competition between the superexchange couplings J1 along the sides of the square and J2 along the diagonal. Li2VOSiO4 undergoes a low-temperature phase transition to a collinear order, as theoretically predicted for J2/J1>0.5. Just above the magnetic transition the degeneracy between the two collinear ground states is lifted by the onset of a structural distortion.  相似文献

The magnetism and magnetocaloric effect(MCE) of rare-earth-based tungstate compounds R_3 BWO_9(R=Gd,Dy,Ho) have been studied by magnetic susceptibility,isothermal magnetization,and specific heat measurements.No obvious long-range magnetic ordering can be found down to 2 K.The Curie-Weiss fitting and magnetic susceptibilities under different applied fields reveal the existence of weak short-range antiferromagnetic couplings at low temperature in these systems.The calculations of isothermal magnetization exhibit a giant MCE with the maximum changes of magnetic entropy being 54.80 J/kg-K at 2 K for Gd_3 BWO_9,28.5 J/kg-K at 6 K for Dy_3 BWO_9,and 29.76 J/kg-K at 4 K for Ho_3 BWO_9,respectively,under a field change of 0-7 T.Especially for Gd_3 BWO_9,the maximum value of magnetic entropy change(-ΔS_M~(max)) and adiabatic temperature change(-ΔT_(ad)~(max)) are 36.75 J/kg·K and 5.56 K for a low field change of 0-3 T,indicating a promising application for low temperature magnetic refrigeration.  相似文献

We present quantum Monte Carlo results for a square-lattice S=1/2 XY model with a standard nearest-neighbor coupling J and a four-spin ring exchange term K. Increasing K/J, we find that the ground state spin stiffness vanishes at a critical point at which a spin gap opens and a striped bond-plaquette order emerges. At still higher K/J, this phase becomes unstable and the system develops a staggered magnetization. We discuss the quantum phase transitions between these phases.  相似文献

Magnetic properties and magnetocaloric effects of Tb6Co1.67Si3 have been investigated by magnetization measurement. This compound is of a hexagonal Ce$_{6}$Ni$_{2}$Si$_{3}$-type structure with a saturation magnetization of 187\,emu/g at 5\,K and a reversible second-order magnetic transition at Curie temperature $T_{\rm C} = 186$\,K. A magnetic entropy change $\Delta S = 7$\,J\,$\cdot$\,kg$^{-1}$\,$\cdot$\,K$^{-1}$ is observed for a magnetic field change from 0 to 5\,T. A large value of refrigerant capacity (RC) is found to be 330\,J/kg for fields ranging from 0 to 5\,T. The large RC, the reversible magnetization around $T_{\rm C}$ and the easy fabrication make the Tb6Co1.67Si3 compound a suitable candidate for magnetic refrigerants in a corresponding temperature range.  相似文献

NiCl(2)-4SC(NH(2))(2) (DTN) is a quantum S=1 chain system with strong easy-pane anisotropy and a new candidate for the Bose-Einstein condensation of the spin degrees of freedom. ESR studies of magnetic excitations in DTN in fields up to 25 T are presented. Based on analysis of the single-magnon excitation mode in the high-field spin-polarized phase and previous experimental results [Phys. Rev. Lett. 96, 077204 (2006)10.1103/PhysRevLett.96.077204], a revised set of spin-Hamiltonian parameters is obtained. Our results yield D=8.9 K, J(c) = 2.2 K, and J(a,b) = 0.18 K for the anisotropy, intrachain, and interchain exchange interactions, respectively. These values are used to calculate the antiferromagnetic phase boundary, magnetization, and the frequency-field dependence of two-magnon bound-state excitations predicted by theory and observed in DTN for the first time. Excellent quantitative agreement with experimental data is obtained.  相似文献

We study kagome lattice antiferromagnets where the effects of easy-axis single-ion anisotropy (D) dominates over the Heisenberg exchange J. For S> or =3/2, virtual quantum fluctuations help lift the extensive classical degeneracy. We demonstrate the presence of a one-third magnetization plateau for a broad range of magnetic fields J3/D2 < or = B < or = JS along the easy axis. The fully equilibrated system at low temperature on this plateau develops an unusual nematic order that breaks sublattice rotation symmetry but not translation symmetry; however, extremely slow dynamics associated with this ordering is expected to lead to glassy freezing of the system on intermediate time scales.  相似文献

Spin-wave expansion is used to evaluate the staggered magnetization of frustrated antiferromagnetic (AF) Heisenberg model with next-nearest-neighbor exchange couplings on a square lattice to the order O(1/S) at zero temperature. It is shown that the O(1/S) order correction increases the staggered magnetization and its presence invalidates the conventional spin- wave conclusions at large frustrations. We apply the mean-field approximation to deal with the quartic terms in the Hamiltonian of the Holstein-Primakoff transformation. A phaqe diagtam is obtained, suggesting that the NCel order is not destroyed for S≥1 at any frustration, while for S = 1/2 there may exist a disordered phase for strong frustrations.  相似文献

We investigate the doping of a two-orbital chain with mobile S = 1/2 fermions as a valid model for Y2-xCaxBaNiO5. The S = 1 spins are stabilized by strong, ferromagnetic Hund's rule couplings. We calculate correlation functions and thermodynamic quantities by density matrix renormalization group methods and find a new hierarchy of energy scales in the spin sector upon doping. Gapless spin excitations are generated at a lower energy scale by interactions among itinerant polarons created by each hole and coexist with the larger scale of the gapful spin-liquid background of the S = 1 chain accompanied by a finite string order parameter.  相似文献

We report first-principles all-electron density-functional-based studies of the electronic structure, magnetic ordering, and anisotropy for the V15 molecular magnet. From these calculations, we determine a Heisenberg Hamiltonian with five antiferromagnetic and one ferromagnetic exchange couplings. We perform direct diagonalization to determine the temperature dependence of the susceptibility. This Hamiltonian reproduces the experimentally observed spin S = 1/2 ground state and low-lying S = 3/2 excited state. A small anisotropy term is necessary to account for the temperature independent part of the magnetization curve.  相似文献
