For insurance risks, jump processes such as homogeneous/non-homogeneous compound Poisson processes and compound Cox processes have been used to model aggregate losses. If we consider the economic assumption of a positive interest to aggregate losses, Lévy processes have proven to be useful. Also in financial modelling, it has been observed that diffusion models are not robust enough to capture the appearance of jumps in underlying asset prices and interest rates. As a result, jump diffusion processes, which are, simply speaking, combinations of compound Poisson processes with Brownian motion, have gained popularity for modelling in insurance and finance. In this paper, considering a jump diffusion process, we obtain the explicit expression of the joint Laplace transform of the distribution of a jump diffusion process and its integrated process, assuming that jump size follows the mixture of two exponential distributions, which is a special case of phase-type distributions. Based on this Laplace transform, we derive the moments of the aggregate accumulated claim amounts of insurance risk. For a financial application, we concern non-defaultable zero-coupon bond pricing. We also provide several numerical examples for the moments of aggregate accumulated claims and default-free zero-coupon bond prices.  相似文献

Regulatory authorities pay considerable attention to setting minimum capital levels for different kinds of financial institutions. Solvency II, the European Commission’s planned reform of the regulation of insurance companies is well underway. One of its consequences will be a shift in focus to internally based models in determining the regulatory capital needed to cover unexpected losses. This evolution emphasises the importance of credit risk assessment through internal ratings. In light of this new prudential regulation, this paper suggests a Basel II compliant approach to predicting credit ratings for non-rated corporations and evaluates its performance compared to external ratings. The paper provides an interesting modelling of non-financial European companies rated by S&P. In developing the model, broad applicability is set as an important boundary condition. Even though the model developed is fairly simple and maintains a high level of granularity, it gives high rates of accuracy and is very interpretable.  相似文献

In the standard model for insurance demand, the risk is totally exogenous and the insurance premium is paid for out of riskless wealth. This model yields results that are mostly in contradiction to everyday observation and have been used to question the pertinence of expected utility theory on which the model is based. For some years now, several papers have made attempts to provide foundations for a theory of insurance demand that leads to less provocative comparative statics results. In these papers, the risk for which coverage is sought becomes endogenous, and the decision to purchase insurance is made simultaneously with the decision on how much to invest in insurable assets. All these papers use a standard financial investment framework. This paper offers a contribution to this literature by using a slightly different framework: the case of a firm exposed to an insurable risk affecting return on a real investment project. The model is kept simple by using a two-state environment. It yields results that are both more complete and more general than results in previous work with the same motivation.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider an insurance risk model governed by a Markovian arrival claim process and by phase-type distributed claim amounts, which also allows for claim sizes to be correlated with the inter-claim times. A defective renewal equation of matrix form is derived for the Gerber-Shiu discounted penalty function and solved using matrix analytic methods. The use of the busy period distribution for the canonical fluid flow model is a key factor in our analysis, allowing us to obtain an explicit form of the Gerber-Shiu discounted penalty function avoiding thus the use of Lundberg’s fundamental equation roots. As a special case, we derive the triple Laplace transform of the time to ruin, surplus prior to ruin, and deficit at ruin in explicit form, further obtaining the discounted joint and marginal moments of the surplus prior to ruin and the deficit at ruin.  相似文献

This paper studies a Sparre Andersen model in which the inter-claim times are generalized Erlang(n) distributed. We assume that the premium rate is a step function depending on the current surplus level. A piecewise integro-differential equation for the Gerber–Shiu discounted penalty function is derived and solved. Finally, to illustrate the solution procedure, explicit expression for the Laplace transform of the time to ruin is given when the inter-claim times are generalized Erlang(2) distributed and the claim amounts are exponentially distributed.  相似文献

In addition to an interest rate guarantee and annual surplus participation, life insurance contracts typically embed the right to stop premium payments during the term of the contract (paid-up option), to resume payments later (resumption option), or to terminate the contract early (surrender option). Terminal guarantees are on benefits payable upon death, survival and surrender. The latter are adapted after exercising the options. A model framework including these features and an algorithm to jointly value the premium payment and surrender options is presented. In a first step, the standard principles of risk-neutral evaluation are applied and the policyholder is assumed to use an economically rational exercise strategy. In a second step, option value sensitivity on different contract parameters, benefit adaptation mechanisms, and exercise behavior is analyzed numerically. The two latter are the main drivers for the option value.  相似文献

When actuaries face the problem of pricing an insurance contract that contains different types of coverage, such as a motor insurance or a homeowner’s insurance policy, they usually assume that types of claim are independent. However, this assumption may not be realistic: several studies have shown that there is a positive correlation between types of claim. Here we introduce different multivariate Poisson regression models in order to relax the independence assumption, including zero-inflated models to account for excess of zeros and overdispersion. These models have been largely ignored to date, mainly because of their computational difficulties. Bayesian inference based on MCMC helps to resolve this problem (and also allows us to derive, for several quantities of interest, posterior summaries to account for uncertainty). Finally, these models are applied to an automobile insurance claims database with three different types of claim. We analyse the consequences for pure and loaded premiums when the independence assumption is relaxed by using different multivariate Poisson regression models together with their zero-inflated versions.  相似文献

We study an insurance model where the risk can be controlled by reinsurance and investment in the financial market. We consider a finite planning horizon where the timing of the events, namely the arrivals of a claim and the change of the price of the underlying asset(s), corresponds to a Poisson point process. The objective is the maximization of the expected total utility and this leads to a nonstandard stochastic control problem with a possibly unbounded number of discrete random time points over the given finite planning horizon. Exploiting the contraction property of an appropriate dynamic programming operator, we obtain a value-iteration type algorithm to compute the optimal value and strategy and derive its speed of convergence. Following Schäl (2004) we consider also the specific case of exponential utility functions whereby negative values of the risk process are penalized, thus combining features of ruin minimization and utility maximization. For this case we are able to derive an explicit solution. Results of numerical computations are also reported.  相似文献

We develop a pricing rule for life insurance under stochastic mortality in an incomplete market by assuming that the insurance company requires compensation for its risk in the form of a pre-specified instantaneous Sharpe ratio. Our valuation formula satisfies a number of desirable properties, many of which it shares with the standard deviation premium principle. The major result of the paper is that the price per contract solves a linear partial differential equation as the number of contracts approaches infinity. One can represent the limiting price as an expectation with respect to an equivalent martingale measure. Via this representation, one can interpret the instantaneous Sharpe ratio as a market price of mortality risk. Another important result is that if the hazard rate is stochastic, then the risk-adjusted premium is greater than the net premium, even as the number of contracts approaches infinity. Thus, the price reflects the fact that systematic mortality risk cannot be eliminated by selling more life insurance policies. We present a numerical example to illustrate our results, along with the corresponding algorithms.

This article comprises a summary of a study made in Finland concerning solvency issues in financial guarantee insurance. The time fluctuation of bankruptcy intensity is analyzed by fitting Box-Jenkins type models to empirical data, and this fluctuation is combined with the variation in the number of claims and the individual claim sizes, based on empirical claim size distribution. The estimated models are used to evaluate, for example, the variance of the claims ratio and of the solvency ratio of the financial guarantee insurer. The variation range of the solvency ratio and the appropriate premium level are discussed with numerical examples.  相似文献

In [Christiansen, M.C., 2007. A sensitivity analysis concept for life insurance with respect to a valuation basis of infinite dimension. Insurance: Math. Econom. doi:10.1016/j.insmatheco.2007.07.005] a sensitivity analysis concept was introduced for the prospective reserve of individual life insurance contracts as functional of the technical basis parameters such as interest rate, mortality probability, disability probability, et cetera. On the basis of that concept, the present paper gives in addition the sensitivities of the premium level.Applying these approaches, an extensive sensitivity analysis is carried out: A study of the basic life insurance contract types ‘pure endowment insurance’, ‘temporary life insurance’, ‘annuity insurance’ and ‘disability insurance’ identifies their diverse characteristics, in particular their weakest points concerning fluctuations of the technical basis. An investigation of combinations of these insurance contract types shows what synergy effects can be expected by creating insurance packages.  相似文献

Over the last years, the valuation of life insurance contracts using concepts from financial mathematics has become a popular research area for actuaries as well as financial economists. In particular, several methods have been proposed of how to model and price participating policies, which are characterized by an annual interest rate guarantee and some bonus distribution rules. However, despite the long terms of life insurance products, most valuation models allowing for sophisticated bonus distribution rules and the inclusion of frequently offered options assume a simple Black–Scholes setup and, more specifically, deterministic or even constant interest rates. We present a framework in which participating life insurance contracts including predominant kinds of guarantees and options can be valuated and analyzed in a stochastic interest rate environment. In particular, the different option elements can be priced and analyzed separately. We use Monte Carlo and discretization methods to derive the respective values. The sensitivity of the contract and guarantee values with respect to multiple parameters is studied using the bonus distribution schemes as introduced in [Bauer, D., Kiesel, R., Kling, A., Ruß, J., 2006. Risk-neutral valuation of participating life insurance contracts. Insurance: Math. Econom. 39, 171–183]. Surprisingly, even though the value of the contract as a whole is only moderately affected by the stochasticity of the short rate of interest, the value of the different embedded options is altered considerably in comparison to the value under constant interest rates. Furthermore, using a simplified asset portfolio and empirical parameter estimations, we show that the proportion of stock within the insurer’s asset portfolio substantially affects the value of the contract.  相似文献

Traditionally, claim counts and amounts are assumed to be independent in non-life insurance. This paper explores how this often unwarranted assumption can be relaxed in a simple way while incorporating rating factors into the model. The approach consists of fitting generalized linear models to the marginal frequency and the conditional severity components of the total claim cost; dependence between them is induced by treating the number of claims as a covariate in the model for the average claim size. In addition to being easy to implement, this modeling strategy has the advantage that when Poisson counts are assumed together with a log-link for the conditional severity model, the resulting pure premium is the product of a marginal mean frequency, a modified marginal mean severity, and an easily interpreted correction term that reflects the dependence. The approach is illustrated through simulations and applied to a Canadian automobile insurance dataset.  相似文献

Because of regulation projects from control organisations such as the European solvency II reform and recent economic events, insurance companies need to consolidate their capital reserve with coherent amounts allocated to the whole company and to each line of business. The present study considers an insurance portfolio consisting of several lines of risk which are linked by a copula and aims to evaluate not only the capital allocation for the overall portfolio but also the contribution of each risk over their aggregation. We use the tail value at risk (TVaR) as risk measure. The handy form of the FGM copula permits an exact expression for the TVaR of the sum of the risks and for the TVaR-based allocations when claim amounts are exponentially distributed and distributed as a mixture of exponentials. We first examine the bivariate model and then the multivariate case. We also show how to approximate the TVaR of the aggregate risk and the contribution of each risk when using any copula.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to provide a joint treatment of the saving and insurance decisions which have very often been dealt with separately in the economic literature. In the present model any decrease in the current consumption level can be used to finance either insurance purchase or an increase in the stock of safe assets held in financial institutions (called ‘deposits’ or ‘contingency reserves fund’ for brevity). The most important result is that, under decreasing temporal risk aversion, deposits and insurance are pure substitutes in the Hicksian sense. Besides, it is shown among other comparative statics results that insurance is not necessarily an inferior good, contrarily to the prevailing view in the literature. Finally, we indicate under which conditions a separation theorem between consumption, insurance and deposits holds. These conditions are either a fair insurance premium or a constant temporal risk aversion. Finally our results are compared to related ones in the literature.  相似文献

Pricing and risk management for longevity risk have increasingly become major challenges for life insurers and pension funds around the world. Risk transfer to financial markets, with their major capacity for efficient risk pooling, is an area of significant development for a successful longevity product market. The structuring and pricing of longevity risk using modern securitization methods, common in financial markets, have yet to be successfully implemented for longevity risk management. There are many issues that remain unresolved for ensuring the successful development of a longevity risk market. This paper considers the securitization of longevity risk focusing on the structuring and pricing of a longevity bond using techniques developed for the financial markets, particularly for mortgages and credit risk. A model based on Australian mortality data and calibrated to insurance risk linked market data is used to assess the structure and market consistent pricing of a longevity bond. Age dependence in the securitized risks is shown to be a critical factor in structuring and pricing longevity linked securitizations.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to build a modeling and pricing framework to investigate the sustainability of the Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM) program in the United States under realistic economic scenarios, i.e., whether the premium payments cover the fair premiums for the inherent risks in the HECM program. We note that earlier HECM models use static mortality tables, neglecting the dynamics of mortality rates and extreme mortality jumps. The earlier models also assume housing prices follow a geometric Brownian motion, which contradicts the fact that housing prices exhibit strong autocorrelation and varying volatility over time. To solve these problems, we propose a generalized Lee-Carter model with asymmetric jump effects to fit the mortality data, and model the house price index via an ARIMA-GARCH process. We then employ the conditional Esscher transform to price the non-recourse provision of reverse mortgages and compare it with the calculated mortgage insurance premiums. The HECM program turns out to be sustainable based on our model setup and parameter settings.  相似文献
