Bit-patterned media based on a single-bit-per-island may be a promising candidate for perpendicular magnetic recording at the Tb/in2 level because they could provide a lower noise and higher density. The understanding of magnetization reversal processes in such patterned media is important. In this work, the range of single domain island size based on Co/Pd bit-patterned media was determined. Demagnetization effect, dipolar interactions and switching field distribution (SFD) for bit-patterned media were quantitatively studied by the simulation based on Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation. The total hysteresis loops and SFD were comparable with the experiment ones. The SFD increased from 2σ=1.2 kOe (as the calculated intrinsic SFD) to the experimental value of 1.9 kOe due to dipolar interactions which is in a good agreement with the experimental results (2.0 kOe). Optimized patterned structure with a minimized SFD and maximized data storage densities was found to have an island size of 10 nm and islands separation of 20 nm. The calculated ratio of SFD/Hc (Hc: the coercivity) is 9.2%, which is below the threshold of 10% for 1 Tb/in2 pattern media. 相似文献

Using thin film pillars approximately 100 nm in diameter, containing two Co layers of different thicknesses separated by a Cu spacer, we examine the process by which the scattering from the ferromagnetic layers of spin-polarized currents flowing perpendicular to the layers causes controlled reversal of the moment direction in the thin Co layer. The well-defined geometry permits a quantitative analysis of this spin-transfer effect, allowing tests of competing theories for the mechanism and also new insight concerning magnetic damping. When large magnetic fields are applied, the spin-polarized current no longer fully reverses the magnetic moment, but instead stimulates spin-wave excitations. 相似文献

Current-induced magnetization dynamics in Co/Cu/Co trilayer nanopillars (approximately 100 nm in diameter) have been studied experimentally at low temperatures for large applied fields perpendicular to the layers. At 4.2 K an abrupt and hysteretic increase in resistance is observed at high current densities for one polarity of the current, comparable to the giant magnetoresistance effect observed at low fields. A micromagnetic model that includes a spin-transfer torque suggests that the current induces a complete reversal of the thin Co layer to alignment antiparallel to the applied field--that is, to a state of maximum magnetic energy. 相似文献

High critical current density ($> 10^{6}$ A/cm$^{2})$ is one of major obstacles to realize practical applications of the current-driven magnetization reversal devices. In this work, we successfully prepared Pd/CoZr(3.5 nm)/MgO thin films with large perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and demonstrated a way of reducing the critical current density with a low out-of-plane magnetic field in the Pd/CoZr/MgO stack. Under the assistance of an out-of-plane magnetic field, the magnetization can be fully reversed with a current density of about 10$^{4}$ A/cm$^{2}$. The magnetization reversal is attributed to the combined effect of the out-of-plane magnetic field and the current-induced spin-orbital torque. It is found that the current-driven magnetization reversal is highly relevant to the temperature owing to the varied spin-orbital torque, and the current-driven magnetization reversal will be more efficient in low-temperature range, while the magnetic field is helpful for the magnetization reversal in high-temperature range. 相似文献

A comparative study of the magnetization curves of continuous and porous multilayered Pd10nm/[Co0.3nm]/Pd0.55nm]15/Pd2nm films deposited on an anodized TiO2 template was performed by magnetometry. Based on the comparison of the dependences of coercive field HC on angle θ between the easy-magnetization axis and the direction of external magnetic field H with theoretical dependences HC(θ) for the magnetization reversal by domain walls motion (according to the Kondorski model) and the rotation of magnetic moments (by the Stoner–Wohlfarth model), the differences in the mechanisms of magnetization reversal for two mentioned types of the films were revealed. The correlation between the difference in the morphologies of the continuous and porous films and revealed change in the mechanisms of the magnetization reversal, as well as the changes in values of HC and calculated constants of the magnetic anisotropy, is discussed. 相似文献

We study magnetic hysteresis loops after field cooling of a CoO/Co bilayer by MOKE and polarized neutron reflectivity. The neutron scattering reveals that the first magnetization reversal after field cooling is dominated by domain wall movement, whereas all subsequent reversals proceed essentially by rotation of the magnetization. In addition, off-specular diffuse scattering indicates that the first magnetization reversal induces an irreversible change of the domain state in the antiferromagnet. 相似文献

Spatiotemporal magnetization reversal dynamics in a Ni(80)Fe(20) microstructure is studied using ps time scale scanning Kerr microscopy. Time domain images reveal a striking change in the reversal associated with the reduction in switching time when a transverse bias field is applied. Magnetization oscillations subsequent to reversal are observed at two resonance frequencies, which sensitively depend on the bias field strength. The oscillation at f = 2 GHz is caused by the damped precession of M, while the lower frequency approximately 0.8 GHz mode is interpreted in terms of domain wall oscillation. 相似文献

We have studied local magnetization reversal by laser
annealing in exchange biased NiFe/FeMn bilayer. Local
magnetization reversal was performed by using the Nd:YAG laser
under external magnetic field. When the laser illuminated the
patterned film with the power of above 300 mW during 15 min, a
magnetoresistance (MR) curve with symmetric peaks at the opposite
field was obtained due to the local reversal of exchange biasing.
A similar result was observed in NiFe/FeMn/NiFe trilayer. As the
exposed area expanded, the intensity of opposite MR peak
increased. The direction of exchange anisotropy in the partially
reversed region can be restored by local laser annealing under
alternating magnetic field, even if its MR peak was reduced by the
damage and interdiffusion. The magnetic new domain structures of
the partially reversed region was generated by laser annealing
near the exposed area. 相似文献

We present the measurements of the picosecond magnetization dynamics of Co/Pd multilayer films. The dynamic magnetization properties of sputtered multilayer films were analyzed as a function of Co layer thicknesses and applied bias field. Both the eigenfrequencies of the magnetization precession in the multilayers and the associated Gilbert damping exhibit extreme sensitivity to the magnetic layer thickness on an atomic monolayer scale. The eigenfrequency increases more than threefold when the Co thickness decreases from 7.5 to 2.8 Å, mainly due to the changes in effective saturation magnetization and perpendicular anisotropy constant. A concomitant 2.6-fold increase in the damping of the oscillations is observed and attributed to stronger interface dissipation in thinner Co layers. In addition, we introduce a quasi-1D micromagnetic model in which the multilayer stack is described as a one-dimensional chain of macrospins that represent each Co layer. This model yields excellent agreement with the observed resonance frequencies without any free parameters, while being much simpler and faster than full 3D micromagnetic modeling. 相似文献

We measured the magnetoresistance (MR) and magnetization of Co wires of various widths in the range from 0.3 to 200 μm. The observed width dependence of some characteristics of MR is attributed to the change of the domain structure. As the width decreased below 1 μm, an abrupt jump appeared in the longitudinal MR. This can be interpreted as due to an abrupt reversal of the overall magnetization. The measured longitudinal MR was compared with the calculation in the Stoner–Wohlfarth model. 相似文献

We present a dynamical study of hysteresis loops of a MoS2/[Au/Co/Au] sandwich performed by surface magneto-optical Kerr effect with a field variation rate up to 1.2 MOe/s. An interpretation of dynamical effects at room temperature is proposed, using a modelization of the magnetization reversal. We discuss simulations which describe two different processes of the magnetization reversal to interpret the evolution of the hysteresis loops for several rates of variation of the magnetic field. For a first range of field variation rates lower than 180 kOe/s, the predominant mechanism seems to be wall motion and beyond 180 kOe/s, an expression for the magnetization is given, which supposes micro-domains reversal as a prevailing process. Finally, the general behaviour of the relaxation time, depending on the magnetic field, is investigated. 相似文献

We present an experimental investigation of the magnetization reversal process in NiFe/Cu(10 nm)/Co circular and elliptical nano-elements with different thickness of the magnetic layers. The results obtained using element sensitive X-ray resonant magnetic scattering (XRMS) were compared with the previous measurements showing that the dipolar interlayer coupling favours the antiparallel alignment of the two magnetization layers at remanance. In the case of circular shape, the increased thickness of the ferromagnetic layers stabilizes the antiparallel alignment of the layers over a wider field range. A similar effect, accompanied by a delay in the onset of the antiparallel alignment, is observed in the case of elliptical nano-elements and applying the external field along the longer axis of the elements, due to the additional shape anisotropy. 相似文献

The domain structure in strained garnet ferrite films and its behavior in an external magnetic field are studied using the Faraday effect. Based on the experimental results, a model of magnetization reversal in thin polycrystalline layers is proposed that describes the process of remagnetization as the development of fractal clusters. The model proposed is verified using a computer simulation of magnetization reversal. 相似文献

We investigated the reversal mechanism in a Co/CoO exchange bias bilayer with a pronounced magnetocrystalline anisotropy in the ferromagnet. The anisotropy, which is induced by the growth of a highly textured Co layer, imposes a distinct reversal mechanism along the magnetically easy and hard direction. It is shown that exchange bias can be induced along both directions, despite the magnetocrystalline anisotropy. The interplay between the magnetocrystalline anisotropy and exchange bias induces a different reversal mechanism for the subsequent reversals in the two crystallographic directions. Along the hard axis, the magnetization reverses according to the reversal mechanism observed before in polycrystalline exchange bias bilayers, i.e. domain wall nucleation and motion for the first reversal and coherent rotation for the subsequent ones. Along the easy axis, domain wall motion remains the dominant reversal mechanism and magnetization rotation has only a minor contribution. 相似文献

We have comprehensively investigated asymmetric magnetization reversal behaviors of (x-Å Co/7.7 Å Pt)5 multilayers (x = 3.1 and 4.7) with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. Our direct observation of magnetic domain structures by means of magneto-optical microscopy reveals that the asymmetry arises both from nucleation and wall-motion processes. An asymmetric nucleation behavior is observed, which could be originated from the preexisting non-reversed domains which might have a reproducible or random spatial distribution, controllable by tuning the field profile. An asymmetric wall-motion behavior stemming from asymmetric stripe domain evolution is also observed. 相似文献

The magnetization reversal behavior of a dot array consisting of Co/Pt multilayers with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy
was investigated. The size of the dots was varied from 200 nm down to 40 nm, while keeping the filling factor constant at
about 0.16. The structural properties were determined by scanning electron microscopy, whereas the magnetic investigation
was performed using SQUID and MFM techniques. It was observed that the dot size has a severe impact on the magnetization reversal
mechanism where only the smallest dots with a size of 40 nm are found to be in a magnetic single-domain state. Moreover, the
patterning process leads to a degradation of the multilayer, leading to a reduction of the switching field and an increase
of the switching field distribution with decreasing dot size. In addition, micromagnetic simulations were performed to understand
the magnetization reversal mechanism in more detail. 相似文献

We studied the magnetization reversal in ultrathin [Co/Pt]n films (n=1, 2, and 4) using magneto-optical Kerr microscopy. These materials demonstrate unusual asymmetries in the activity of nucleation centers and domain wall motion. It was found that application of very high holding magnetic field prior to magnetization reversal, exceeding some critical value much larger than the apparent saturation field, suppresses the subsequent ‘asymmetric’ nucleation centers, activity. We revealed that the ‘asymmetric’ nucleation centers become active again after subsequent reversal cycles coming from a smaller holding field and studied how the asymmetry returns with the decrease of applied holding field. It was found that in low-coercivity ultrathin Co films, the asymmetry in domain wall velocity decreased sharply with the applied field increase and disappeared when the reversal field is greater than μ0H=1.5 mT. 相似文献

Magnetization reversal process in Fe/Si (001) single-crystalline film investigated by planar Hall effect 下载免费PDF全文
A planar Hall effect(PHE) is introduced to investigate the magnetization reversal process in single-crystalline iron film grown on a Si(001) substrate.Owing to the domain structure of iron film and the characteristics of PHE,the magnetization switches sharply in an angular range of the external field for two steps of 90° domain wall displacement and one step of 180°domain wall displacement near the easy axis, respectively. However, the magnetization reversal process near the hard axis is completed by only one step of 90° domain wall displacement and then rotates coherently. The magnetization reversal process mechanism near the hard axis seems to be a combination of coherent rotation and domain wall displacement.Furthermore, the domain wall pinning energy and uniaxial magnetic anisotropy energy can also be derived from the PHE measurement. 相似文献

The possibility of appearing jumps in the magnetization curves of Fe/Cr multilayers has been predicted under the assumption
that magnetic ordering in chromium interlayers has the form of a linearly polarized spin-density wave. This possibility has
been analyz ed for an Fe/Cr/Fe three4ayer film with a conventional quality of Fe/Cr interfaces, which does not ensure a change
in the ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic orientations of the magnetizations of neighboring iron layers with a variation
in the thickness of the chromium interlayer by one atomic layer (short oscillation period). The model used suggests that the
wave vector of the spin-density wave is responsible for the experime ntally observed long period of these oscillations. Relationships
have been derived for the range of thicknesses of chromium interlayers in which the appearance of the predicted effect can
be expected, and the magnitude of the effect has been evaluated. 相似文献
