Initial boundary value problems for nonlinear parabolic functional differential equations are transformed by discretization in space variables into systems of ordinary functional differential equations. A comparison theorem for differential difference inequalities is proved. Sufficient conditions for the convergence of the numerical method of lines are given. An explicit Euler method is proposed for the numerical solution of systems thus obtained. This leads to difference scheme for the original problem. A complete convergence analysis for the method is given.  相似文献

We consider the Cauchy problem in a Hilbert space for a second-order abstract quasilinear hyperbolic equation with variable operator coefficients and nonsmooth (but Bochner integrable) free term. For this problem, we establish an a priori energy error estimate for the semidiscrete Galerkin method with an arbitrary choice of projection subspaces. Also, we establish some results on existence and uniqueness of an exact weak solution. We give an explicit error estimate for the finite element method and the Galerkin method in Mikhlin form.  相似文献

Recently, Robin claimed to introduce clever innovations (‘wrinkles’) into the mathematics education literature concerning the solutions, and methods of solution, to differential equations. In particular, Robin formulated an iterative scheme in the form of a single integral representation. These ideas were applied to a range of examples involving differential equations. In this article, we respond to Robin's work by subjecting these claims, methods and applications to closer scrutiny. By outlining the historical development of Picard's iterative method for differential equations and drawing on relevant literature, we show that the iterative scheme of Robin has been known for some time. We introduce the need for a ‘space for otherness’ in mathematics education, by drawing on Foucault and posit alternative pedagogical approaches as heterotopias. We open a space for otherness and make it concrete by considering alternative perspectives to Robin's work. On a practical note, we see the importance of history and theory to be part of the pedagogical conversation when teaching and learning iterative methods; and provide a set of Maple code with which students and teachers can experiment, explore and learn. We also advocate more broadly for educators to open a space for otherness in their own pedagogical practice.  相似文献

The maximum norm error estimates of the Galerkin finite element approximations to the solutions of differential and integro-differential multi-dimensional parabolic problems are considered. Our method is based on the use of the discrete version of the elliptic-Sobolev inequality and some operator representations of the finite element solutions. The results of the present paper lead to the error estimates of optimal or almost optimal order for the case of simplicial Lagrangian piecewise polynomial elements.  相似文献

A discontinuous Galerkin method with interior penalties is presented for nonlinear Sobolev equations. A semi-discrete and a family of Fully-discrete time approximate scheme are formulated. These schemes can be symmetric or nonsymmetric. Hp-version error estimates are analyzed for these schemes. Just because of a damping term ·(b(u)ut) included in Sobolev equation, which is the distinct character different from parabolic equation, special test functions are chosen to deal with this term. Finally, a priori L(H1) error estimate is derived for the semi-discrete time scheme and similarly, l(H1) and l2(H1) for the Fully-discrete time schemes. These results also indicate that spatial rates in H1 and time truncation errors in L2 are optimal.  相似文献

In this paper, we present the -convergence analysis of a non-dissipative high-order discontinuous Galerkin method on unstructured hexahedral meshes using a mass-lumping technique to solve the time-dependent Maxwell equations. In particular, we underline the spectral convergence of the method (in the sense that when the solutions and the data are very smooth, the discretization is of unlimited order). Moreover, we see that the choice of a non-standard approximate space (for a discontinuous formulation) with the absence of dissipation can imply a loss of spatial convergence. Finally we present a numerical result which seems to confirm this property.

In this work, a diagonal splitting idea is presented for solving linear systems of ordinary differential equations. The resulting methods are specially efficient for solving systems which have arisen from semidiscretization of parabolic partial differential equations (PDEs). Unconditional stability of methods for heat equation and advection–diffusion equation is shown in maximum norm. Generalization of the methods in higher dimensions is discussed. Some illustrative examples are presented to show efficiency of the new methods.  相似文献

In this paper, on the one hand, we take the conventional quasi-reversibility method to obtain the error estimates of approximate solutions of the Cauchy problems for parabolic equations in a sub-domain of QT with strong restrictions to the measured boundary data. On the other hand, weakening the conditions on the measured data, then combining the duality method in optimization with the quasi-reversibility method, we solve the Cauchy problems for parabolic equations in the presence of noisy data. Using this method, we can get the proper regularization parameter ε that we need in the quasi-reversibility method and obtain the convergence rate of approximate solutions as the noise of amplitude δ tends to zero.  相似文献

The process of semi-discretization and waveform relaxation are applied to general nonlinear parabolic functional differential equations. Two new theorems are presented, which extend and improve some of the classical results. The first of these theorems gives an upper bound for the norm of the error of finite difference semi-discretization. This upper bound is sharper than the classical error bound. The second of these theorems gives an upper bound for the norm of the error, which is caused by both semi-discretization and waveform relaxation. The focus in the paper is on estimating this error directly without using the upper bound for the error, which is caused by the process of semi-discretization and the upper bound for the error, which is caused by the waveform relaxation method. Such estimating gives sharper error bound than the bound, which is obtained by estimating both errors separately.  相似文献

We show that there exists a real homogeneous differential equation of order with classical almost periodic coefficients such that all solutions are uniformly bounded on the real line yet no non-trivial solution is almost periodic. This now appears to make the search for a Floquet theory of such equations a futile enterprise.

We consider the first initial and boundary value problem of nonclassical parabolic equations utμΔutΔu+g(u)=f(x) on a bounded domain Ω, where μ∈[0,1]. First, we establish some uniform decay estimates for the solutions of the problem which are independent of the parameter μ. Then we prove the continuity of solutions as μ→0. Finally we show that the problem has a unique global attractor Aμ in in the topology of H2(Ω); moreover, AμA0 in the sense of Hausdorff semidistance in as μ goes to 0.  相似文献

With the introduction of a new parameter n, Kim recently generalized an upper bound for the exponential function that implies the inequality between the arithmetic and geometric means. In this paper, we answer some of Kim's conjectures about the inequalities between Kim's generalized upper bound and the original one. We also see the validity of Kim's generalization for some further negative values of x for the case in which the n is rational with both numerator and denominator odd. The range of its validity for negative x is investigated through the study of the zero distribution of a certain family of quadrinomials.  相似文献

We describe a technique for a posteriori error estimates suitable to the optimal control problem governed by the evolution equations solved by the method of lines. It is applied to the control problem governed by the parabolic equation, convection-diffusion equation and hyperbolic equation. The error is measured with the aid of the L2-norm in the space-time cylinder combined with a special time weighted energy norm.  相似文献

A class of systems governed by quasilinear parabolic partial differential equations with first boundary conditions is considered. Existence of solutions for this class of systems and theira priori estimates are established. Further, a theorem on the existence of optimal controls for the corresponding control problem is obtained. Its proof is based on Filippov's implicit functions lemma.
