A systematic method to derive the nonlocal symmetries for partial differential and differential-difference equations with two independent variables is presented and shown that the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) and Burger's equations, Volterra and relativistic Toda (RT) lattice equations admit a sequence of nonlocal symmetries. An algorithm, exploiting the obtained nonlocal symmetries, is proposed to derive recursion operators involving nonlocal variables and illustrated it for the KdV and Burger's equations, Volterra and RT lattice equations and shown that the former three equations admit factorisable recursion operators while the RT lattice equation possesses (2×2) matrix factorisable recursion operator. The existence of nonlocal symmetries and the corresponding recursion operator of partial differential and differential-difference equations does not always determine their mathematical structures, for example, bi-Hamiltonian representation.  相似文献

The method of reduction previously known in the theory of Hamiltonian systems with symmetries is developed in order to obtain exact group-invariant solutions of systems of partial differential equations. This method leads to representations of quotient equations which are very convenient for the systematic analysis of invariant solutions of boundary value problems. In the case of partially invariant solutions, necessary and sufficient conditions of their invariance with respect to subalgebras of symmetry algebras are given. The concept of partial symmetries of differential equations is considered.  相似文献

Hidden symmetries of differential equations are point symmetries that arise unexpectedly in the increase (equivalently decrease) of order, in the case of ordinary differential equations, and variables, in the case of partial differential equations. The origins of Type II hidden symmetries (obtained via reduction) for ordinary differential equations are understood to be either contact or nonlocal symmetries of the original equation while the origin for Type I hidden symmetries (obtained via increase of order) is understood to be nonlocal symmetries of the original equation. Thus far, it has been shown that the origin of hidden symmetries for partial differential equations is point symmetries of another partial differential equation of the same order as the original equation. Here we show that hidden symmetries can arise from contact and nonlocal/potential symmetries of the original equation, similar to the situation for ordinary differential equations.  相似文献

The Type-II hidden symmetries are extra symmetries in addition to the inherited symmetries of the differential equations when the number of independent and dependent variables is reduced by a Lie point symmetry. In [B. Abraham-Shrauner, K.S. Govinder, Provenance of Type II hidden symmetries from nonlinear partial differential equations, J. Nonlinear Math. Phys. 13 (2006) 612-622] Abraham-Shrauner and Govinder have analyzed the provenance of this kind of symmetries and they developed two methods for determining the source of these hidden symmetries. The Lie point symmetries of a model equation and the two-dimensional Burgers' equation and their descendants were used to identify the hidden symmetries. In this paper we analyze the connection between one of their methods and the weak symmetries of the partial differential equation in order to determine the source of these hidden symmetries. We have considered the same models presented in [B. Abraham-Shrauner, K.S. Govinder, Provenance of Type II hidden symmetries from nonlinear partial differential equations, J. Nonlinear Math. Phys. 13 (2006) 612-622], as well as the WDVV equations of associativity in two-dimensional topological field theory which reduces, in the case of three fields, to a single third order equation of Monge-Ampère type. We have also studied a second order linear partial differential equation in which the number of independent variables cannot be reduced by using Lie symmetries, however when is reduced by using nonclassical symmetries the reduced partial differential equation gains Lie symmetries.  相似文献

The Type II hidden symmetries are extra symmetries in addition to the inherited symmetries of the differential equations when the number of independent and dependent variables is reduced by a Lie-point symmetry. In [Gandarias RML. Type-II hidden symmetries through weak symmetries for nonlinear partial differential equations. J Math Anal Appl 2008;348:752–9] it was shown that the provenance of the Type II Lie point hidden symmetries found for differential equations can be explained by considering weak symmetries or conditional symmetries of the original PDE.In this paper we analyze the connection between one of the methods analyzed in [Abraham-Shrauner B, Govinder KS. Provenance of Type II hidden symmetries from nonlinear partial differential equations. J Nonlin Math Phys 2006;13:612–22] and the weak symmetries of some partial differential equations in order to determine the source of these hidden symmetries. We have considered some of the models presented in [Abraham-Shrauner B, Govinder KS. Provenance of Type II hidden symmetries from nonlinear partial differential equations. J Nonlin Math Phys 2006;13:612–22], as well as the linear two-dimensional and three-dimensional wave equations [Abraham-Shrauner B, Govinder KS, Arrigo JA. Type II hidden symmetries of the linear 2D and 3D wave equations. J h Phys A Math Theor 2006;39:5739–47].

An approach for determining a class of master partial differential equations from which Type II hidden point symmetries are inherited is presented. As an example a model nonlinear partial differential equation (PDE) reduced to a target PDE by a Lie symmetry gains a Lie point symmetry that is not inherited (hidden) from the original PDE. On the other hand this Type II hidden symmetry is inherited from one or more of the class of master PDEs. The class of master PDEs is determined by the hidden symmetry reverse method. The reverse method is extended to determine symmetries of the master PDEs that are not inherited. We indicate why such methods are necessary to determine the genesis of Type II symmetries of PDEs as opposed to those that arise in ordinary differential equations (ODEs).  相似文献

Symmetries and solutions to the thin film equations   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We study symmetries and solutions of the generalized fourth-order nonlinear partial differential equations which arise from studies of thin liquid films. It is shown that the equations admit extended scaling and rotation symmetries and a class of generalized conditional symmetries for certain coefficient functions. Exact solutions associated to the symmetries are obtained.  相似文献

In this paper, an application of the Riquer-Thomas-Janet theory is described for the problem of transforming a system of partial differential equations into a passive form, i.e., to a special form which contains explicitly both the equations of the initial system and all their nontrivial differential consequences. This special representation of a system markedly facilitates the subsequent integration of the corresponding differential equations. In this paper, the modern approach to the indicated problem is presented. This is the approach adopted in the Knuth-Bendix procedure [13] for critical-pair/completion and then Buchberger's algorithm for completion of polynomial ideal bases [13] (or, alternatively, for the construction of Groebner bases for ideals in a differential operator ring [14]). The algorithm of reduction to the passive form for linear system of partial differential equations and its implementation in the algorithmic language REFAL, as well as the capabilities of the corresponding program, are outlined. Examples illustrating the power and efficiency of the system are presented.  相似文献

The Airy stress function, although frequently employed in classical linear elasticity, does not receive similar usage for granular media problems. For plane strain quasi-static deformations of a cohesionless Coulomb-Mohr granular solid, a single nonlinear partial differential equation is formulated for the Airy stress function by combining the equilibrium equations with the yield condition. This has certain advantages from the usual approach, in which two stress invariants and a stress angle are introduced, and a system of two partial differential equations is needed to describe the flow. In the present study, the symmetry analysis of differential equations is utilised for our single partial differential equation, and by computing an optimal system of one-dimensional Lie algebras, a complete set of group-invariant solutions is derived. By this it is meant that any group-invariant solution of the governing partial differential equation (provided it can be derived via the classical symmetries method) may be obtained as a member of this set by a suitable group transformation. For general values of the parameters (angle of internal friction ? and gravity g) it is found there are three distinct classes of solutions which correspond to granular flows considered previously in the literature. For the two limiting cases of high angle of internal friction and zero gravity, the governing partial differential equation admit larger families of Lie point symmetries, and from these symmetries, further solutions are derived, many of which are new. Furthermore, the majority of these solutions are exact, which is rare for granular flow, especially in the case of gravity driven flows.  相似文献

The symmetry reduction method based on the Fréchet derivative of the differential operators is applied to investigate symmetries of the Field equations in general relativity corresponding to cylindrically symmetric space–time, that is a coupled system of nonlinear partial differential equations of second order. More specifically, this technique yields invariant transformation that reduce the given system of partial differential equations to a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. Some of the reduced systems are further studied for exact solutions.  相似文献

We attempt to propose an algebraic approach to the theory of integrable difference equations. We define the concept of a recursion operator for difference equations and show that it generates an infinite sequence of symmetries and canonical conservation laws for a difference equation. As in the case of partial differential equations, these canonical densities can serve as integrability conditions for difference equations. We obtain the recursion operators for the Viallet equation and all the Adler-Bobenko-Suris equations.  相似文献

We explore variational Poisson-Nijenhuis structures on nonlinear partial differential equations and establish relations between the Schouten and Nijenhuis brackets on the initial equation and the Lie bracket of symmetries on its natural extensions (coverings). This approach allows constructing a framework for the theory of nonlocal structures. __________ Translated from Teoreticheskaya i Matematicheskaya Fizika, Vol. 154, No. 2, pp. 268–282, February, 2008.  相似文献

When symmetries of differential equations are applied, various types of associated systems of equations appear. Compatibility conditions of the associated systems expressed in the form of differential equations inherit Lie symmetries of the initial equations. Invariant solutions to compatibility systems are known as orbits of partially invariant and generic solutions involved in the Lie group foliation of differential equations and so on. In some cases Bäcklund transformations and differential substitutions connecting quotient equations for compatibility conditions and initial systems naturally arise. Besides, Ovsiannikov's orbit method for finding partially invariant solutions is essentially based on such symmetries.  相似文献

The determining equations for the nonclassical reductions of a general nth order evolutionary partial differential equations is considered. It is shown that requiring compatibility with a first order quasilinear partial differential equation, the determining equations are obtained. Burgers' equation and the KdV equation and generalizations serve as examples illustrating how compatibility leads quickly and easily to the determining equations for their nonclassical symmetries.  相似文献

A scalar complex ordinary differential equation can be considered as two coupled real partial differential equations, along with the constraint of the Cauchy–Riemann equations, which constitute a system of four equations for two unknown real functions of two real variables. It is shown that the resulting system possesses those real Lie symmetries that are obtained by splitting each complex Lie symmetry of the given complex ordinary differential equation. Further, if we restrict the complex function to be of a single real variable, then the complex ordinary differential equation yields a coupled system of two ordinary differential equations and their invariance can be obtained in a non-trivial way from the invariance of the restricted complex differential equation. Also, the use of a complex Lie symmetry reduces the order of the complex ordinary differential equation (restricted complex ordinary differential equation) by one, which in turn yields a reduction in the order by one of the system of partial differential equations (system of ordinary differential equations). In this paper, for simplicity, we investigate the case of scalar second-order ordinary differential equations. As a consequence, we obtain an extension of the Lie table for second-order equations with two symmetries.  相似文献

This work presents a geometrical formulation of the Clairin theory of conditional symmetries for higher-order systems of partial differential equations (PDEs). We devise methods for obtaining Lie algebras of conditional symmetries from known conditional symmetries, and unnecessary previous assumptions of the theory are removed. As a consequence, new insights into other types of conditional symmetries arise. We then apply the so-called PDE Lie systems to the derivation and analysis of Lie algebras of conditional symmetries. In particular, we develop a method for obtaining solutions of a higher-order system of PDEs via the solutions and geometric properties of a PDE Lie system, whose form gives a Lie algebra of conditional symmetries of the Clairin type. Our methods are illustrated with physically relevant examples such as nonlinear wave equations, the Gauss–Codazzi equations for minimal soliton surfaces, and generalised Liouville equations.  相似文献
