We establish sufficient conditions for the so-called Virozub–Matsaev condition for twice continuously differentiable self-adjoint operator functions. This condition is closely related to the existence of a local spectral function and to the notion of positive type spectrum. Applications to self-adjoint operators in Krein spaces and to quadratic operator polynomials are given. Received: September 22, 2007. Accepted: September 29, 2007.  相似文献

In this paper, self-adjoint extensions for second-order symmetric linear difference equations with real coefficients are studied. By applying the Glazman-Krein-Naimark theory for Hermitian subspaces, both self-adjoint subspace extensions and self-adjoint operator extensions of the corresponding minimal subspaces are completely characterized in terms of boundary conditions, where the two endpoints may be regular or singular.  相似文献

Sufficient conditions are given for the finiteness of the discrete spectrum of the block Toeplitz operatorT A generated in the spaceH 2 n by self-adjoint matrix functionA(t)(|t|=1). These results are obtained by means of theorems concerning the spectrum of a perturbed self-adjoint operators.  相似文献

We give Jensen’s inequality for n-tuples of self-adjoint operators, unital n-tuples of positive linear mappings and real valued continuous convex functions with conditions on the bounds of the operators. We also study operator quasi-arithmetic means under the same conditions.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the symmetric q-Dirac operator. We describe dissipative, accumulative, self-adjoint and the other extensions of such operators with general boundary conditions. We construct a self-adjoint dilation of dissipative operator. Hence, we determine the scattering matrix of dilation. Later, we construct a functional model of this operator and define its characteristic function. Finally, we prove that all root vectors of this operator are complete.  相似文献

After the von Neumann's remark [10] about pathologies of unbounded symmetric operators and an abstract theorem about stability domain [9], we develope here a general theory allowing to construct semibounded restrictions of selfadjoint operators in explicit form. We apply this theory to quantum-mechanical momentum (position) operator to describe corresponding stability domains. Generalization to the case of measurable functions of these operators is considered. In conclusion we discuss spectral properties of self-adjoint extensions of constructed self-adjoint restrictions.  相似文献

We give a spectral analysis of some unbounded normal product HK of two self-adjoint operators H and K (which appeared in [7]) and we say why it is not self-adjoint even if the spectrum of one of the operators is sufficiently “asymmetric”. Then, we investigate the self-adjointness of KH (given it is normal) for arbitrary self-adjoint H and K by giving a counterexample and some positive results and hence finishing off with the whole question of normal products of self-adjoint operators (appearing in [1, 7, 12]). LetL() be a self-adjoint quadratic operator polynomial on a Hilbert space with numerical rangeW(L). The main concern of this paper is with properties of eigenvalues on W(L). The investigation requires a careful discussion of repeated eigenvectors of more general operator polynomials. It is shown that, in the self-adjoint quadratic case, non-real eigenvalues on W(L) are semisimple and (in a sense to be defined) they are normal. Also, for any eigenvalue at a point on W(L) where an external cone property is satisfied, the partial multiplicities cannot exceed two.  相似文献

The Schur transformation for generalized Nevanlinna functions has been defined and applied in [2]. In this paper we discuss its relation to a basic interpolation problem and study its effect on the minimal self-adjoint operator (or relation) realization of a generalized Nevanlinna function. D. A self-adjoint operator H with an eigenvalue λ embedded in the continuum spectrum is considered. Boundedness of all operators of the form AnP is proved, where P is the eigenprojection associated with λ and A is any self-adjoint operator satisfying Mourre's inequality in a neighborhood of λ and such that the higher commutators of H with A up to order n+2 are relatively bounded with respect to H.  相似文献

We study a 22 operator matrix associated with a closed densely defined operator. Among others, the selfadjointness of a closed symmetric operator and the strong commutativity of two (unbounded) self-adjoint operators are characterized in terms of the related operator matrices. We propose a definition of strong commutativity for closed symmetric operators. Submitted: November 8, 2001  相似文献

In the past several years, there has been considerable progress made on a general left-definite theory associated with a self-adjoint operator A that is bounded below in a Hilbert space H; the term ‘left-definite’ has its origins in differential equations but Littlejohn and Wellman [L. L. Littlejohn, R. Wellman, A general left-definite theory for certain self-adjoint operators with applications to differential equations, J. Differential Equations, 181 (2) (2002) 280-339] generalized the main ideas to a general abstract setting. In particular, it is known that such an operator A generates a continuum {Hr}r>0 of Hilbert spaces and a continuum of {Ar}r>0 of self-adjoint operators. In this paper, we review the main theoretical results in [L. L. Littlejohn, R. Wellman, A general left-definite theory for certain self-adjoint operators with applications to differential equations, J. Differential Equations, 181 (2) (2002) 280-339]; moreover, we apply these results to several specific examples, including the classical orthogonal polynomials of Laguerre, Hermite, and Jacobi.  相似文献

Mourre’s commutator theory is a powerful tool to study the continuous spectrum of self-adjoint operators and to develop scattering theory. We propose a new approach of its main result, namely the derivation of the limiting absorption principle (LAP) from a so called Mourre estimate. We provide a new interpretation of this result. We prove a trace formula for pairs of self-adjoint operators associated to canonical differential expressions. An important role is played by the associated Weyl function.  相似文献

We discuss the spectral subspace perturbation problem for a self-adjoint operator. Assuming that the convex hull of a part of its spectrum does not intersect the remainder of the spectrum, we establish an a priori sharp bound on variation of the corresponding spectral subspace under off-diagonal perturbations. This bound represents a new, a priori, tan Θ Theorem. We also extend the Davis–Kahan tan 2Θ Theorem to the case of some unbounded perturbations.  相似文献

We study generalized polar decompositions of densely defined closed linear operators in Hilbert spaces and provide some applications to relatively (form) bounded and relatively (form) compact perturbations of self-adjoint, normal, and m-sectorial operators.
