In type-I multiferroics, where ferroelectricity and magnetism arise from different origins, the explicit measurement of magnetoelectric effect is commonly prohibited due to the weak magnetoelectric coupling. From our investigation of magnetic and dielectric properties in a perovskite PbFe0.5Ti0.25W0.25O3, we have directly demonstrated magnetic-field-driven change of dielectric constant in a highly non-linear fashion. Our result offers a potential utilization of magnetoelectric functionality in type-I multiferroics.  相似文献

The magnetodielectric properties of BSPT/LSMO multiferroic composite thin films were investigated through the measurement of the frequency dependence of the dielectric constant under different magnetic fields at room temperature. The magnetodielectric (MD) response showed strong frequency dependence: at 100 Hz, the MD response remained negative and the maximum value of ?1.1% was obtained; at 52 kHz, the dielectric constant first decreased and then rose linearly with the magnetic field until the giant room temperature positive MD effect of 9.5% was derived under 7 T. The observed unique MD effects for BSPT/LSMO were attributed to the co-contributions of the magnetostriction and magnetoresistance.  相似文献

采用基于密度泛函理论的广义梯度近似方法和赝势平面波法,对多铁材料BaCoF4的铁电反铁磁相和可能的顺电相的电子结构进行了第一性原理研究.研究表明,反铁磁态很可能有利于低温下的铁电稳定性,F的强负电性使得体系内原子间主要是离子键相互作用.Co离子与在bc面上的F(2),F(3)离子间完全是离子键作用,而与F(4)间有较弱的共价作用,与F(1)间作用介于两者之间.铁电畸变主要来源于Ba离子与F(1),F(2),F(3)离子沿着c轴方向的相对位移,F(4)对铁电性的贡献最少.铁电相中F(2),F(3)离子的能量低于中心对称相,最大位移贡献者F(1)的化学键性由弱共价作用到离子键的变化也是最大的,这均有利于体系的稳定.  相似文献

We have measured the dielectric constant for NdMn_2O_5 in an external magnetic field to map out the magnetoelectric phase diagram. The phase diagram corresponds well with the previously reported data of neutron diffraction and magnetic susceptibility. Our main finding is the observation of a dielectric anomaly in the low temperature phase with a strong magnetoelectric effect, which is attributed to the independent Nd~(3+) ordering. Moreover, the absence of the dielectric anomaly in the paramagnetic phase is discussed, keeping in view the exchange interaction and its dependence on the rareearth R~(3+) ionic radius.  相似文献

电场调控磁性能够有效降低功耗,在未来低功耗多功能器件等方面具有巨大的潜在应用前景.铁磁/铁电多铁异质结构是实现电场调控磁性的有效途径,其中室温、磁电耦合效应大的应变媒介磁电耦合是最为活跃的研究领域之一.本文简要介绍在以Pb(Mg_(1/3)Nb_(2/3))_(0.7)Ti_(0.3)O_3为铁电材料的多铁异质结构中通过应变媒介磁电耦合效应对磁性、磁化翻转及磁性隧道结调控的研究进展.首先讨论了多铁异质结构中电场对磁性的调控;之后介绍了电场调控磁化翻转的研究进展及理论上实现的途径;然后简述了电场对磁性隧道结调控的相关结果;最后在此基础上,对多铁异质结构中电场调控磁性及磁性器件进行了总结和展望.  相似文献

We calculate the low-frequency index of refraction of a medium which is homogeneous along axis z and possesses a periodic dependence of the permittivity epsilon(r) and permeability micro(r) in the x-y plane (2D magnetodielectric photonic crystal). Exact analytical formulas for the effective index of refraction for two eigenmodes with vector E or H polarized along axis z are obtained. We show that, unlike nonmagnetic photonic crystals where the E mode is ordinary and the H mode is extraordinary, now both modes exhibit extraordinary behavior. Because of this distinction, the magnetodielectric photonic crystals exhibit optical properties that do not exist for natural crystals. We also discuss the limiting case of perfectly conducting cylinders and clarify the so-called problem of noncommuting limits, omega-->0 and epsilon--> infinity.  相似文献

It has been shown that the electric polarization in multiferroic crystals exhibiting the magnetoelectric effect can be increased in the presence of the flexoelectric effect. The polarization in manganite-based perovskite-like multiferroics can be increased if the long axes of the rhombohedra formed upon the rhombohedral distortion of MnO6 octahedra can undergo fan spatial rotations, leading to the flexoelectric effect.  相似文献

The colossal (more than threefold) decrease in the dielectric constant ɛ in the easy-plane SmFe3(BO3)4 ferroborate in a magnetic field of ∼5 kOe applied in the basal ab plane of the crystal has been found. A close relation of this effect to anomalies in the field dependence of the electric polarization has been established. It has been shown that this magnetodielectric effect is due to the contribution to ɛ from the electric susceptibility, which is related to the rotation of spins in the ab plane, arises in the region of the antiferromagnetic ordering T < T N = 33 K, and is suppressed by the magnetic field. A theoretical model describing the main features of the behavior of ɛ and electric polarization in the magnetic field has been proposed, taking into account the additional anisotropy in the basal plane induced by the magnetoelastic stresses.  相似文献

Interaction of magnetodielectric emulsions with a magnetic field is considered. Structural transformations in these media, such as emulsion inversion and its associated change in the permeability, are studied. The theory of the observed phenomena is developed, and the feasibility of effectively controlling the properties of magnetodielectric emulsions by applying a magnetic field is demonstrated.  相似文献

The paper introduces a method of simulating magnetodielectric composite media by analogy with Leinders's method (J. Phys. I (France) 5 (1995) 555), which starts from the study of the behavior of a magnetodielectric binary mixture inside an electromagnetic field. The Neupert effect suggests a flare model in which the nonthermal emissions are produced by energetic electrons which heat lower corona and chromosphere to produce the thermal emissions. Based on this concept, we investigate the Neupert effect to test the correlation between the hard X-ray spectral index and the time rate of the UV flare area at 1600 or 171 Å. Using the TRACE and RHESSI observations, we explore these quantities for two solar flares, one on March 14, 2002 and the other on November 1, 2003. The negative dependence between the spectral index and the time rate of the UV flare area is found, especially during the hard X-ray sub-peaks. This finding indicates that the electron-beam-driven heating plays a prominent role in the UV emission of these two flares.  相似文献

We have investigated the detailed magnetic field dependence of the electric polarization and dielectric constant in (Tb,Dy,Ho)Mn2O5 where magnetic and ferroelectric transitions are intimately coupled. Our fundamental discovery is the unprecedented large change of the dielectric constant with magnetic field, particularly in DyMn2O5, associated with an unusual commensurate-incommensurate magnetic transition. This extraordinary effect appears to originate from the high sensitivity of the incommensurate state to external perturbation.  相似文献

A general theory of the Casimir-Polder interaction of single atoms with dispersing and absorbing magnetodielectric bodies is presented, which is based on QED in linear, causal media. Both ground-state and excited atoms are considered. Whereas the Casimir-Polder force acting on a ground-state atom can conveniently be derived from a perturbative calculation of the atom-field coupling energy, an atom in an excited state is subject to transient force components that can only be fully understood by a dynamical treatment based on the body-assisted vacuum Lorentz force. The results show that the Casimir-Polder force can be influenced by the body-induced broadening and shifting of atomic transitions — an effect that is not accounted for within lowest-order perturbation theory. The theory is used to study the Casimir-Polder force of a ground-state atom placed within a magnetodielectric multilayer system, with special emphasis on thick and thin plates as well as a planar cavity consisting of two thick plates. It is shown how the competing attractive and repulsive force components related to the electric and magnetic properties of the medium, respectively, can — for sufficiently strong magnetic properties — lead to the formation of potential walls and wells.  相似文献

By using the path-integral formalism, electromagnetic field in the presence of some linear, isotropic magnetodielectric slabs is quantized and related correlation functions are found. In the framework of path-integral techniques, Casimir force between two infinitely large, parallel and ideal conductors, with a different number of magnetodielectric slabs in between, is obtained by calculating the Green’s function corresponding to each geometry.  相似文献

Neutron diffraction is used to show that small (~7 MPa, or 70 bar) uniaxial pressure produces significant changes in the populations of magnetic domains in a single crystal of 2% Nd-doped bismuth ferrite. The magnetic easy plane of the domains converted by the pressure is rotated 60° relative to its original position. These results demonstrate extreme sensitivity of the magnetic properties of multiferroic bismuth ferrite to tiny (less than 10(-4)) elastic strain, as well as weakness of the forces pinning the domain walls between the cycloidal magnetic domains in this material.  相似文献

We have considered transient radiation of a charged particle in an anisotropic magnetodielectric plate placed into a regular waveguide. It is assumed that the charged particle passes through the plate moving at a constant velocity perpendicularly to the waveguide axis. Wave equations and analytical expressions for transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) fields in different regions of the waveguide have been obtained. Energies of transient radiation of the moving particle have been calculated. The properties of transient radiation and Vavilov–Cherenkov radiation have been analyzed for the case of a rectangular waveguide. Energies of transient radiation have been calculated for the case of a “thin” plate in the waveguide, when the wavelength in the plate is much greater than the length of the plate.  相似文献

In this paper, multiferroics and magnetocapacitive effect of triangular-lattice antiferromagnet Ag Al0.02Cr0.98S2 are investigated by magnetic, ferroelectric, pyroelectric current and dielectric measurement. We find that it is a multiferroic material and the magnetocapacitive effect reaches a factor of up to 90 in an external field of 7 T. The results imply the further possibility of synthesizing the magnetocapacitive materials by modifying the frustrated spin structure in terms of a few B-site doping nonmagnetic ions.  相似文献

钙钛矿结构BiMnO_3作为同时具有铁电性与铁磁性的多铁材料,在人工神经网络方面可以作为一种潜在的人工突触材料,从而设计出新型多铁人工突触器件.本文使用第一性原理计算的方法,分别研究了四方相BiMnO_3在xy面内施加0.18%与4%应力条件下的铁电情况,以及Mn原子磁矩随着铁电极化强度变化的曲线.结果表明,在四方相多铁BiMnO_3中,Mn原子磁矩会随着极化强度的增强而增大,表示其铁磁性可以在一定程度上由其铁电极化来进行调控,并且应力越大,其磁矩变化范围就越大.这一结果使得多铁BiMnO_3在人工突触器件设计方面拥有潜在的应用价值,多铁性使其在作为人工突触器件材料中具有更多可调控的自由度,从而可用于模拟多突触连接.这可为将来构造类脑芯片打下一定的理论基础.  相似文献
