A search for lepton-flavor-violating interactions
and
has been performed with the ZEUS detector using the entire HERA I data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity
of
. The data were taken at center-of-mass energies,
, of 300 and
. No evidence of lepton-flavor violation was found, and constraints were derived on leptoquarks (LQs) that could mediate such
interactions. For LQ masses below
, limits were set on
, where
is the coupling of the LQ to an electron and a first-generation quark q1, and
is the branching ratio of the LQ to the final-state lepton
(μ or
) and a quark q. For LQ masses much larger than
, limits were set on the four-fermion interaction term
for LQs that couple to an electron and a quark
and to a lepton
and a quark
, where
and
are quark generation indices. Some of the limits are also applicable to lepton-flavor-violating processes mediated by squarks
in R-Parity-violating supersymmetric models. In some cases, especially when a higher-generation quark is involved and for the
process
, the ZEUS limits are the most stringent to date.

Transverse momentum (
) spectra measured by the PHENIX experiment at RHIC in Au + Au, d + Au and pp collisions at
and in Au + Au collisions at
are presented. A suppression of the yield of high
hadrons in central Au + Au collisions by a factor 4-5 at
is found relative to the pp reference scaled by the nuclear overlap function
. In contrast, direct photons are not suppressed in central Au + Au collisions and no suppression of high
particles can be seen in d + Au collisions. This leads to the conclusion that the dense medium formed in central Au + Au
collisions is responsible for the suppression.

The ZEUS inclusive differential cross-section data from HERA, for charged and neutral current processes taken with e + and e- beams, together with differential cross-section data on inclusive jet production in e + p scattering and dijet production in
scattering, have been used in a new NLO QCD analysis to extract the parton distribution functions of the proton. The input of jet-production data constrains the gluon and allows an accurate extraction of

Di-jet production is studied in collisions of quasi-real photons at e + e- centre-of-mass energies
from 189 to 209 GeV at LEP. The data were collected with the OPAL detector. Jets are reconstructed using an inclusive
-clustering algorithm for all cross-section measurements presented. A cone jet algorithm is used in addition to study the different structure of the jets resulting from either of the algorithms. The inclusive di-jet cross-section is measured as a function of the mean transverse energy
of the two leading jets, and as a function of the estimated fraction of the photon momentum carried by the parton entering the hard sub-process,
, for different regions of
. Angular distributions in di-jet events are measured and used to demonstrate the dominance of quark and gluon initiated processes in different regions of phase space. Furthermore the inclusive di-jet cross-section as a function of
and
is presented, where
is the jet pseudo-rapidity. Different regions of the
-
-space are explored to study and control the influence of an underlying event. The results are compared to next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations and to the predictions of the leading order Monte Carlo generator PYTHIA.Received: 20 December 2002, Published online: 17 October 2003 相似文献

Data collected at LEP at centre-of-mass energies
GeV are used to study correlations of the spin of W bosons using
events. Spin correlations are favoured by data, and found to agree with the Standard Model predictions. In addition, correlations between the W-boson decay planes are studied in

events. Decay-plane correlations are measured to be consistent with the Standard Model predictions.Received: 26 October 2004, Revised: 15 January 2005, Published online: 3 March 2005 相似文献

The production of
, D0, D + , Ds + and
charm hadrons and their antiparticles in e p scattering at HERA was measured with the ZEUS detector using an integrated luminosity of
. The measurement has been performed in the photoproduction regime with the exchanged-photon virtuality
and for photon-proton centre-of-mass energies in the range
. The charm hadrons were reconstructed in the range of transverse momentum
and pseudorapidity
. The production cross sections were used to determine the ratio of neutral and charged D-meson production rates,
, the strangeness-suppression factor,
, and the fraction of charged D mesons produced in a vector state,
. The measured
and
values agree with those obtained in deep inelastic scattering and in e + e- annihilations. The measured
value is smaller than, but consistent with, the previous measurements. The fractions of c quarks hadronising as a particular charm hadron,
, were derived in the given kinematic range. The measured open-charm fragmentation fractions are consistent with previous
results, although the measured
is smaller and
is larger than those obtained in e + e- annihilations. These results generally support the hypothesis that fragmentation proceeds independently of the hard sub-process.

A study of elliptic flow and two-particle azimuthal correlations of charged particles (
GeV/c) and high-
pions (
GeV/c) in Pb + Au collisions at 158A GeV/c, close to midrapidity, is presented. Elliptic flow (v
2) rises linearly with
to a value of about 10
at 2 GeV/c. Beyond
1.5 GeV/c, the slope decreases and possibly indicates a v
2 saturation at high
. Two-pion azimuthal anisotropies for
1.2 GeV/c exceed the v
2 values by about 60
in semicentral collisions. This non-flow component is attributed to near-side and away-side jetlike correlations. While the
near-side peak remains constant with centrality 0.23
0.03 rad, as expected for fragmentation, the away-side peak experiences broadening and disappears in central collisions.

In this paper, preliminary results are presented on high

Searches for stable, hadronizing scalar quarks and gluinos are performed using the data collected with the ALEPH detector at LEP. Gluon splitting into a gluino or a squark pair is searched for at centre-of-mass energies around the Z resonance, in the e + e-
and
processes. Stable squark pair production, and stop pair production with subsequent decays into a stable gluino,
, are also directly searched for at centre-of-mass energies from 183 to 209 GeV. Altogether, stable hadronizing stop (sbottom) quarks are excluded up to masses of 95 (92)
, and stable hadronizing gluinos are excluded up to 26.9
, at 95% confidence level. In the framework of R-parity-conserving supersymmetric models in which the gluino and the stop quark are the two lightest supersymmetric particles, a 95% C.L. lower limit of 80
is set on the stop quark mass.Received: 23 May 2003, Published online: 24 October 2003 相似文献

Upper limits on the cross-section of the pair-production process
, assuming 100
branching fraction to hadrons, are derived from a new search for the
hadrons final state, independently of the hadronic flavour of the decay products. This study, combined with previously published searches for the neutral Higgs bosons h0 and A0, is used to constrain the Type II Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM(II)) with no CP violation in the Higgs sector and no additional non-Standard Model particles besides the five Higgs bosons. The analysis combines LEP1 and LEP2 data collected with the OPAL detector up to the highest available centre-of-mass energies. The searches are sensitive to the
and
decay modes of the Higgs bosons. A benchmark scan of the 2HDM(II) parameter space is performed. Large regions of the 2HDM(II) parameter space explored are excluded at the 95% CL in the (
and
planes, using both direct neutral Higgs boson searches and indirect limits derived from Standard Model high precision measurements. The region
GeV and
GeV is excluded at 95 % CL, independently of

The Standard Model constraints on
which can be derived from the
decays are revisited in some depth. As experimental inputs, the

decays complemented by the
decays, the CP parameters
and

as determined by the global CKM fit are used. The constraints discussed here are model independent in the sense that they rely only on Isospin symmetry, following the Gronau-London proposal. A new bound on

is negative. The Grossman-Quinn bound is rediscussed. A close form expression is given for
as a function of the measurements. Various scenarios for the future of the isospin analysis are explored. To probe the Standard Model the

The associated production of a
and a final hard photon in high energy electron-positron colliders is studied. It is shown that the hard-photon spectrum contains useful information on the
properties. This suggests that, if a new neutral gauge boson exists for

mass in order to get most of its properties.Received: 8 April 2005, Published online: 5 August 2005PACS:

It has recently been pointed out that a new class of subleading shape functions involving B-meson matrix elements of non-local four-quark operators contributes at order
to
decay distributions in the endpoint region. The corresponding functions
and
are estimated using the vacuum-insertion approximation. A numerical analysis of various
decay spectra suggests that these power corrections are very small, below present theoretical uncertainties due to other
subleading shape-function contributions.

The inelastic production of
mesons in ep collisions has been studied with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of
. The
mesons were identified using the decay channel
. The measurements were performed in the kinematic range
,
, 0.2 < z < 0.9 and
, where Q2 is the virtuality of the exchanged photon, W is the photon-proton centre-of-mass energy, z is the fraction of the photon energy carried by the
meson in the proton rest frame and

The measured cross sections are compared to theoretical predictions within the non-relativistic QCD framework including colour-singlet and colour-octet contributions, as well as to predictions based on the kT-factorisation approach. Calculations of the colour-singlet process generally agree with the data, whereas inclusion of colour-octet terms spoils this agreement.Received: 18 May 2005, Revised: 24 June 2005, Published online: 27 July 2005 相似文献

The mass and width of the W boson are measured using e+e– → W+W– events from the data sample collected by the OPAL experiment at LEP at centre-of-mass energies between 170 GeV and 209 GeV.
The mass (mW) and width (ΓW) are determined using direct reconstruction of the kinematics of W+W– →
and W+W– →
events. When combined with previous OPAL measurements using W+W– →
events and the dependence on of the WW production cross-section at threshold, the results are determined to be
where the first error is statistical, the second systematic and the third due to uncertainties in the value of the LEP beam
energy. By measuring in the channel using several different determinations of the direction of jets with differing sensitivities
to soft particles, a limit is also obtained on possible final-state interactions due to colour reconnection effects inW+W– →
events. The consistency of the results for the W mass and width with those inferred from other electroweak parameters provides
an important test of the Standard Model of electroweak interactions.

In the CP-violating minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), for certain values of the CP-violating phases associated to the universal trilinear couplings (At, Ab) and the gluino mass
, e.g.,
or
, for
GeV and
-5, the lightest Higgs boson mass (
) is
GeV. This mass interval is still allowed by results of standard LEP Higgs searches because of a strongly suppressed H1ZZ coupling. However, in the same region of parameter space in which these two conditions occur, the
coupling is enhanced because the two mentioned sets of couplings satisfy a sum rule. In this paper we probe such a light Higgs scenario at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) by studying
associate production, leading to a
signal. We show that the latter is readily accessible at the CERN hadron collider, upon the application of suitable selection cuts against the standard model (SM) backgrounds. Our parton level Monte Carlo (MC) analysis yields
-45 signal events, completely free of SM background, for
- 30 fb-1 of accumulated luminosity, after taking into account the overall efficiency for tagging four b-jets.Received: 21 February 2005, Published online: 6 July 2005 相似文献
