In this paper, we study the p-ary linear code C(PG(n,q)), q = p h , p prime, h ≥ 1, generated by the incidence matrix of points and hyperplanes of a Desarguesian projective space PG(n,q), and its dual code. We link the codewords of small weight of this code to blocking sets with respect to lines in PG(n,q) and we exclude all possible codewords arising from small linear blocking sets. We also look at the dual code of C(PG(n,q)) and we prove that finding the minimum weight of the dual code can be reduced to finding the minimum weight of the dual code of points and lines in PG(2,q). We present an improved upper bound on this minimum weight and we show that we can drop the divisibility condition on the weight of the codewords in Sachar’s lower bound (Geom Dedicata 8:407–415, 1979). Belov, Logachev and Sandimirov construct linear codes of minimum distance d for roughly 1/q k/2 of the values of dq k-1. In this article we shall prove that, for q = p prime and roughly \frac38{\frac{3}{8}}-th’s of the values of d < q k-1, there is no linear code meeting the Griesmer bound. This result uses Blokhuis’ theorem on the size of a t-fold blocking set in PG(2, p), p prime, which we generalise to higher dimensions. We also give more general lower bounds on the size of a t-fold blocking set in PG(δ, q), for arbitrary q and δ ≥ 3. It is known that from a linear code of dimension k with minimum distance dq k-1 that meets the Griesmer bound one can construct a t-fold blocking set of PG(k−1, q). Here, we calculate explicit formulas relating t and d. Finally we show, using the generalised version of Blokhuis’ theorem, that nearly all linear codes over \mathbb Fp{{\mathbb F}_p} of dimension k with minimum distance dq k-1, which meet the Griesmer bound, have codewords of weight at least d + p in subcodes, which contain codewords satisfying certain hypotheses on their supports.  相似文献

We prove that every polarity of PG(2k − 1,q), where k≥ 2, gives rise to a design with the same parameters and the same intersection numbers as, but not isomorphic to, PG k (2k,q). In particular, the case k = 2 yields a new family of quasi-symmetric designs. We also show that our construction provides an infinite family of counterexamples to Hamada’s conjecture, for any field of prime order p. Previously, only a handful of counterexamples were known.   相似文献

An infinite family of complete (q 2 + q + 8)/2-caps is constructed in PG(3, q) where q is an odd prime ≡ 2 (mod 3), q ≥ 11. This yields a new lower bound on the second largest size of complete caps. A variant of our construction also produces one of the two previously known complete 20-caps in PG(3, 5). The associated code weight distribution and other combinatorial properties of the new (q 2 + q + 8)/2-caps and the 20-cap in PG(3, 5) are investigated. The updated table of the known sizes of the complete caps in PG(3, q) is given. As a byproduct, we have found that the unique complete 14-arc in PG(2, 17) contains 10 points on a conic. Actually, this shows that an earlier general result dating back to the Seventies fails for q = 17.   相似文献

Let Ω and be a subset of Σ = PG(2n−1,q) and a subset of PG(2n,q) respectively, with Σ ⊂ PG(2n,q) and . Denote by K the cone of vertex Ω and base and consider the point set B defined by
in the André, Bruck-Bose representation of PG(2,qn) in PG(2n,q) associated to a regular spread of PG(2n−1,q). We are interested in finding conditions on and Ω in order to force the set B to be a minimal blocking set in PG(2,qn) . Our interest is motivated by the following observation. Assume a Property α of the pair (Ω, ) forces B to turn out a minimal blocking set. Then one can try to find new classes of minimal blocking sets working with the list of all known pairs (Ω, ) with Property α. With this in mind, we deal with the problem in the case Ω is a subspace of PG(2n−1,q) and a blocking set in a subspace of PG(2n,q); both in a mutually suitable position. We achieve, in this way, new classes and new sizes of minimal blocking sets in PG(2,qn), generalizing the main constructions of [14]. For example, for q = 3h, we get large blocking sets of size qn + 2 + 1 (n≥ 5) and of size greater than qn+2 + qn−6 (n≥ 6). As an application, a characterization of Buekenhout-Metz unitals in PG(2,q2k) is also given.  相似文献

In this article we study minimal1-blocking sets in finite projective spaces PG(n,q),n 3. We prove that in PG(n,q 2),q = p h , p prime, p > 3,h 1, the second smallest minimal 1-blockingsets are the second smallest minimal blocking sets, w.r.t.lines, in a plane of PG(n,q 2). We also study minimal1-blocking sets in PG(n,q 3), n 3, q = p h, p prime, p > 3,q 5, and prove that the minimal 1-blockingsets of cardinality at most q 3 + q 2 + q + 1 are eithera minimal blocking set in a plane or a subgeometry PG(3,q).  相似文献

The nonsystematic perfect q-ary codes over finite field F q of length n = (q m − 1)/(q − 1) are constructed in the case when m ≥ 4 and q ≥ 2 and also when m = 3 and q is not prime. For q ≠ 3, 5, these codes can be constructed by switching seven disjoint components of the Hamming code H q n ; and, for q = 3, 5, eight disjoint components.  相似文献

The authors use the method of moving spheres to prove the nonexistence of ground states of -△u = u^p - u^q for n≥3,-∞〈p〈(n+2)/(n-2) and q〉max (1,p),
In fact this conclusion is a special case of -△u =f(u) for n≥2.  相似文献

Geometric construction of association schemes from non-degenerate quadrics   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
LetF q be a finite field withq elements, whereq is a power of an odd prime. In this paper, we assume that δ=0,1 or 2 and consider a projective spacePG(2ν+δ,F q ), partitioned into an affine spaceAG(2ν+δ,F q ) of dimension 2ν+δ and a hyperplane=PG(2ν+δ−1,F q ) of dimension 2ν+δ−1 at infinity. The points of the hyperplane are next partitioned into three subsets. A pair of pointsa andb of the affine space is defined to belong to classi if the line meets the subseti of ℋ. Finally, we derive a family of three-class association schemes, and compute their parameters. This project is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (No. 19571024).  相似文献

We show that if a linear code admits an extension, then it necessarily admits a linear extension. There are many linear codes that are known to admit no linear extensions. Our result implies that these codes are in fact maximal. We are able to characterize maximal linear (n, k, d) q -codes as complete (weighted) (n, nd)-arcs in PG(k − 1, q). At the same time our results sharply limit the possibilities for constructing long non-linear codes. The central ideas to our approach are the Bruen-Silverman model of linear codes, and some well known results on the theory of directions determined by affine point-sets in PG(k, q).   相似文献

For q = p m and m ≥ 1, we construct systematic authentication codes over finite field using Galois rings. We give corrections of the construction of [2]. We generalize corresponding systematic authentication codes of [6] in various ways.  相似文献

In this paper, we study a certain partition function a(n) defined by Σ n≥0 a(n)q n := Π n=1(1 − q n )−1(1 − q 2n )−1. We prove that given a positive integer j ≥ 1 and a prime m ≥ 5, there are infinitely many congruences of the type a(An + B) ≡ 0 (mod m j ). This work is inspired by Ono’s ground breaking result in the study of the distribution of the partition function p(n).  相似文献

In [J.L. Kim, K. Mellinger, L. Storme, Small weight codewords in LDPC codes defined by (dual) classical generalised quadrangles, Des. Codes Cryptogr. 42 (1) (2007) 73-92], the codewords of small weight in the dual code of the code of points and lines of Q(4,q) are characterised. Inspired by this result, using geometrical arguments, we characterise the codewords of small weight in the dual code of the code of points and generators of Q+(5,q) and H(5,q2), and we present lower bounds on the weight of the codewords in the dual of the code of points and k-spaces of the classical polar spaces. Furthermore, we investigate the codewords with the largest weights in these codes, where for q even and k sufficiently small, we determine the maximum weight and characterise the codewords of maximum weight. Moreover, we show that there exists an interval such that for every even number w in this interval, there is a codeword in the dual code of Q+(5,q), q even, with weight w and we show that there is an empty interval in the weight distribution of the dual of the code of Q(4,q), q even. To prove this, we show that a blocking set of Q(4,q), q even, of size q2+1+r, where 0<r<(q+4)/6, contains an ovoid of Q(4,q), improving on [J. Eisfeld, L. Storme, T. Sz?nyi, P. Sziklai, Covers and blocking sets of classical generalised quadrangles, Discrete Math. 238 (2001) 35-51, Theorem 9].  相似文献

In this paper, first, we determine the quotient groups of the Hecke groups H q ), where q ≥ 7 is prime, by their principal congruence subgroups H p q ) oflevel p, where p is also prime. We deal with the case of q = 7 separately, because of its close relation with the Hurwitz groups. Then, using the obtained results, we find the principal congruence subgroups of the extended Hecke groups $ \overline H $ \overline H (λ q ) for q ≥ 5 prime. Finally, we show that some of the quotient groups of the Hecke group H q ) and the extended Hecke group $ \overline H $ \overline H (λ q ), q ≥ 5 prime, by their principal congruence subgroups H p q ) are M*-groups.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the p-ary linear code Ck(n,q), q=ph, p prime, h1, generated by the incidence matrix of points and k-dimensional spaces in PG(n,q). For kn/2, we link codewords of Ck(n,q)Ck(n,q) of weight smaller than 2qk to k-blocking sets. We first prove that such a k-blocking set is uniquely reducible to a minimal k-blocking set, and exclude all codewords arising from small linear k-blocking sets. For k<n/2, we present counterexamples to lemmas valid for kn/2. Next, we study the dual code of Ck(n,q) and present a lower bound on the weight of the codewords, hence extending the results of Sachar [H. Sachar, The Fp span of the incidence matrix of a finite projective plane, Geom. Dedicata 8 (1979) 407–415] to general dimension.  相似文献

This article first of all discusses the problem of the cardinality of maximal partial spreads in PG(3,q), q square, q>4. Let r be an integer such that 2rq+1 and such that every blocking set of PG(2,q) with at most q+r points contains a Baer subplane. If S is a maximal partial spread of PG(3,q) with q 2-1-r lines, then r=s( +1) for an integer s2 and the set of points of PG(3,q) not covered byS is the disjoint union of s Baer subgeometriesPG(3, ). We also discuss maximal partial spreads in PG(3,p 3), p=p 0 h , p 0 prime, p 0 5, h 1, p 5. We show that if p is non-square, then the minimal possible deficiency of such a spread is equal to p 2+p+1, and that if such a maximal partial spread exists, then the set of points of PG(3,p 3) not covered by the lines of the spread is a projected subgeometryPG(5,p) in PG(3,p 3). In PG(3,p 3),p square, for maximal partial spreads of deficiency p 2+p+1, the combined results from the preceding two cases occur. In the final section, we discuss t-spreads in PG(2t+1,q), q square or q a non-square cube power. In the former case, we show that for small deficiencies , the set of holes is a disjoint union of subgeometries PG(2t+1, ), which implies that 0 (mod +1) and, when (2t+1)( -1) <q-1, that 2( +1). In the latter case, the set of holes is the disjoint union of projected subgeometries PG(3t+2, ) and this implies 0 (mod q 2/3+q 1/3+1). A more general result is also presented.  相似文献

In [2] it was shown that if q ≥ 4n2−8n+2 then there are no subplanes of order q contained in the set of internal points of a conic in PG(2,qn), q odd, n≥ 3. In this article we improve this bound in the case where q is prime to , and prove a stronger theorem by considering sublines instead of subplanes. We also explain how one can apply this result to flocks of a quadratic cone in PG(3,qn), ovoids of Q(4,qn), rank two commutative semifields, and eggs in PG(4n−1,q). The main result is that to any even integer q in the interval 0 ≤ q ≤ 2n+1-2log(n+1), there are two perfect codes C1 and C2 of length n = 2m − 1, m ≥ 4, such that |C1C2| = q.  相似文献
