The stability of various factorizations of self-adjoint rational matrix functions and matrix polynomials, as well as of hermitian solutions of symmetric matrix algebraic Riccati equations, is studied. In the first part of this paper results on stability of certain classes of invariant subspaces of a matrix which is self-adjoint in an indefinite inner product were obtained. Complex matrices that are structured with respect to a possibly degenerate indefinite inner product are studied. Based on earlier works on normal matrices, the notions of hyponormal and strongly hyponormal matrices are introduced. A full characterization of such matrices is given and it is shown how those matrices are related to different concepts of normal matrices in degenerate inner product spaces. Finally, the existence of invariant semidefinite subspaces for strongly hyponormal matrices is discussed.  相似文献

In this paper we study J-EP matrices, as a generalization of EP-matrices in indefinite inner product spaces, with respect to indefinite matrix product. We give some properties concerning EP and J-EP matrices and find connection between them. Also, we present some results for reverse order law for Moore-Penrose inverse in indefinite setting. A parallel algorithm is proposed for the solution of narrow banded non‐symmetric linear systems. The linear system is partitioned into blocks of rows with a small number of unknowns common to multiple blocks. Our technique yields a reduced system defined only on these common unknowns which can then be solved by a direct or iterative method. A projection based extension to this approach is also proposed for computing the reduced system implicitly, which gives rise to an inner–outer iteration method. In addition, the product of a vector with the reduced system matrix can be computed efficiently on a multiprocessor by concurrent projections onto subspaces of block rows. Scalable implementations of the algorithm can be devized for hierarchical parallel architectures by exploiting the two‐level parallelism inherent in the method. Our experiments indicate that the proposed algorithm is a robust and competitive alternative to existing methods, particularly for difficult problems with strong indefinite symmetric part. For selfadjoint matrices in an indefinite inner product, possible canonical forms are identified that arise when the matrix is subjected to a selfadjoint generic rank one perturbation. Genericity is understood in the sense of algebraic geometry. Special attention is paid to the perturbation behavior of the sign characteristic. Typically, under such a perturbation, for every given eigenvalue, the largest Jordan block of the eigenvalue is destroyed and (in case the eigenvalue is real) all other Jordan blocks keep their sign characteristic. The new eigenvalues, i.e. those eigenvalues of the perturbed matrix that are not eigenvalues of the original matrix, are typically simple, and in some cases information is provided about their sign characteristic (if the new eigenvalue is real). The main results are proved by using the well known canonical forms of selfadjoint matrices in an indefinite inner product, a version of the Brunovsky canonical form and on general results concerning rank one perturbations obtained.  相似文献

It is proved that under certain essential additional hypotheses, a nonpositive invariant subspace of a hyponormal matrix admits an extension to a maximal nonpositive subspace which is invariant for both the matrix and its adjoint. Nonpositivity of subspaces and the hyponormal property of the matrix are understood in the sense of a nondegenerate inner product in a finite dimensional complex vector space. The obtained theorem combines and extends several previously known results. A Pontryagin space formulation, with essentially the same proof, is offered as well.  相似文献

It is proved that a large class of matrix group actions, including joint similarity and congruence-like actions, as well as actions of the type of matrix equivalence, have local Lipschitz property. Under additional hypotheses, global Lipschitz property is proved. These results are specialized and applied to obtain local Lipschitz property of canonical bases of matrices that are selfadjoint in an indefinite inner product. Using the convexity of the 2-dirnensionai field of values we reprove the well-known result that an inner product that is semibounded on the neutral set of an indefinite inner product of arbitrary dimension is so on the whole space. For large systems of linear equations, iterative methods provide attractive solution techniques. We describe the applicability and convergence of iterative methods of Krylov subspace type for an important class of symmetric and indefinite matrix problems, namely augmented (or KKT) systems. Specifically, we consider preconditioned minimum residual methods and discuss indefinite versus positive definite preconditioning. For a natural choice of starting vector we prove that when the definite and indenfinite preconditioners are related in the obvious way, MINRES (which is applicable in the case of positive definite preconditioning) and full GMRES (which is applicable in the case of indefinite preconditioning) give residual vectors with identical Euclidean norm at each iteration. Moreover, we show that the convergence of both methods is related to a system of normal equations for which the LSQR algorithm can be employed. As a side result, we give a rare example of a non-trivial normal(1) matrix where the corresponding inner product is explicitly known: a conjugate gradient method therefore exists and can be employed in this case. In this article, tracial numerical ranges associated with matrices in an indefinite inner product space are investigated. The boundary equations of these sets are obtained, and the case of the boundary being a polygon is studied. As an application, a numerical algorithm for plotting the tracial numerical range of an arbitrary complex matrix is presented. Our approach uses the elementary idea that the boundary may be traced by computing the supporting lines.  相似文献

We study the covariant free bosonic string field theory and explore its locality (causality) properties. We find string fields which are strictly local and covariant, but act on an unconstrained Hilbert space with an indefinite inner product. From these we construct observable fields which act on the physical Hilbert space with a definite inner product. These are shown to be approximately local.  相似文献
