The problem of the stressed state of a prismatic anisotropic rod containing screw dislocations, the axes of which are parallel to the rod axis, is considered. Such defects may arise during the growth of filamentary crystals (metal “whiskers”), and may also exist in multiply connected cylindrical structures. The torsion of an anisotropic elastic bar with a multiply connected cross-section is investigated initially, assuming that the stresses and strains are single-valued but dispensing with the requirement that the warping function should be single-valued. The boundary-value problem is formulated in terms of the Prandtl stress function, which, unlike the warping function, is single-valued in a multiply connected region. A variational formulation of the boundary-value problem for the stress function is given. From the variational principle obtained a torsion boundary-value problem is formulated when there are lumped or continuously distributed dislocations. A modification of the membrane analogy for the torsion problem is proposed which takes into account the presence of dislocations. General theorems of the theory of the torsion of a rod containing dislocations are formulated. An effective formula is derived for the angle of torsion of a bar due to a specified dislocation distribution. Problems on dislocations in a thin-walled rod and a rectangular anisotropic bar are solved.  相似文献

Using the generalized complex potential and the method of least squares we solve the problem of the torsion of multiconnected anisotropic cylindrical rods. This problem is reduced to a system of linear algebraic equations in the unknowns that occur in the required function. By numerical studies we show the influence of the elastic and geometric characteristics of the rod on the stress distribution, the potential energy densities, and the variation of the stress intensity factor in an elliptic cylinder with one or two cracks and in an annular cylinder with a radial crack. Bending, extension, and torsion of naturally twisted rods   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Saint-Venant /1/ established that the spatial problem of linear elasticity theory of the deformation of straight rods with a load-free side surface allows of practically complete investigation: the extension problem is solved exactly (if the boundary layer is ignored), and the bending and torsion problems reduce to Neumann problems for the Laplace equation in the region of the rod cross-section (see /2, 3/). It is shown below that an analogous situation holds for a naturally twisted rod: the spatial problem is successfully reduced to a Neumann-type problem for a certain system of second-order elliptic equations in the cross-section. It is essential that this can be done for an arbitrary value of the rod twist. For zero twist the problem in the section reduces to the Saint-Venant problem. In the case of centrally-symmetric sections, the problem decomposes into two independent problems, on bending and on extensiontorsion. Variational principles and certain bilateral estimates of the extension and torsion stiffness are constructed for the latter, and the case of oblong sections is investigated.

Solutions are presented herein of some contact problems connected with the torsion of a composite half-space. In the general case the problem of the torsion of a composite elastic half-space is examined by means of the rotation of a stiff finite cylinder welded into a vertical recess of this half-space. Moreover, the following particular problems on the torsion of such a half-space are considered.

1. 1) A composite half-space with a vertical elastic infinite core, twisted by means of the rotation of a stiff stamp affixed to the upper endplate of the elastic core.

2. 2) A half-space with a vertical cylindrical infinite hole, twisted by means of the rotation of a stiff finite cylinder welded into the upper part of this hole.

In the general case the solution of the problem reduces to the solution of an integral equation of the second kind on a half-line. The question of the solvability of this fundamental integral equation is investigated, and it is shown that its solution may be constructed by successive approximations.

Let us note that the problem of the torsion of a homogeneous half space and of an elastic layer by means of rotation of a stiff stamp has been considered by Rostovtsev [1], Reissner and Sagoci [2], Ufliand [3], Florence [4], Grilitskii [5] and others.

The problem of the torsion of a circular cylindrical rod and the half-space welded to it which are subject to a torque applied to the free endface of the rod has been considered by Grilitskii and Kizyma[6].

The torsion of an elastic half-space with a vertical cylindrical inclusion of some other material by the rotation of a stiff stamp on the surface of this half-space has been considered in [7], wherein it has been assumed that the stamp is symmetrically disposed relative to the axis of the inclusion and lies simultaneously on both materials.  相似文献

Different ways of representing the elastic moments are proposed, which can be used for the finite-dimensional modelling of rod systems using a system of n axisymmetric solids, connected by elastic spherical joints. Using the example of a closed plane rod, possible states of equilibrium of the finite-dimensional model of the rod are analysed for different methods of specifying the elastic torques at the joints. The case when the rod axis has the form of a “figure of eight”, which is modelled by a system of six axisymmetric solids with a relative torsion angle that depends on the bending, is investigated in detail.  相似文献

A solution of the problem of the torsion of a cylindrical rod was obtained in /1/ for a general, isotropic, incompressible elastic material. The present paper gives an analytical solution of the elastoplastic torsion problem for finite deformations, written in terms of quadratures of elliptic functions. The non-linear kinematics of elastoplastic deformation is introduced into the defining equations with the help of a multiplicative decomposition of the deformation gradient into elastic and plastic components /2, 3/. The elastic deformation and rate of plastic deformation are related to the state of stress of the body, in accordance with the defining Mooney-Rivlin equations /4/ and the law of flow for finite deformations associated with the Tresca yield condition /5/. A non-linear first-order partial differential equation and the initial data at the elastoplastic boundary are obtained in order to determine the angle of rotation within the plastic zone of the basis formed from the eigenvectors of the stress tensor, relative to the radial direction. The integration of the resulting equation is reduced to determining the general integral of the Ricatti equation with right-hand side determined from the angular velocity of flow of the material within the plastic zone. It is shown that neglecting the finiteness of the deformation leads to too high an estimate of the rigidity of the rod.  相似文献

Stability of solitary waves in a thin inextensible and unshearable rod of infinite length is studied. Solitary-wave profile of the elastica of such a rod without torsion has the form of a planar loop and its speed depends on a tension in the rod. The linear instability of a solitary-wave profile subject to perturbations escaping from the plane of the loop is established for a certain range of solitary-wave speeds. It is done using the properties of the Evans function, an analytic function on the right complex half-plane, that has zeros if and only if there exist the unstable modes of the linearization around a solitary-wave solution. The result follows from comparison of the behaviour of the Evans function in some neighbourhood of the origin with its asymptotic at infinity. The explicit computation of the leading coefficient of the Taylor series of the Evans function near the origin is performed by means of the symbolic computer language. Problems on large stretching, torsional and bending deformations of a naturally twisted rod, loaded with end forces and moments, are considered from the point of view of the non-linear three-dimensional theory of elasticity. Particular solutions of the equations of elastostatics are found, which are two-parameter families of finite deformations and which possess the property that, for these deformations, the initial system of three-dimensional non-linear equations reduces to a system of equations with two independent variables. The use of these equations enables one to reduce certain Saint-Venant problems for a naturally twisted rod to two-dimensional non-linear boundary-value problems for a planar domain in the form of the cross-section of a rod. Different formulations of the two-dimensional boundary-value problem for the cross-section are proposed, which differ in the choice of the unknown functions. A non-linear problem of the torsion and stretching of a circular cylinder with helical anisotropy, which is reduced to ordinary differential equations, is considered as a special case.  相似文献

The torsion of a round polymer rod is examined on the basis of the generalized Maxwell equation, taking into account two terms of the relaxation-time spectrum. In finding the relaxation constants corresponding to the younger term, we used experimental torsion diagrams obtained with thick cylindrical specimens having a significantly inhomogeneous stress pattern. It was shown that use of the generalized nonlinear Maxwell equation with two terms makes it possible to obtain satisfactory agreement between the theoretical and experimental torsion diagrams and between the theoretical and experimental creep curves over a considerable time interval. It was established that calculation of the maximum tangential stresses by use of experimental torsion diagrams yields values virtually identical to those calculated by the refined method. The polymer constants given, determined on the basis of experimental torsion diagrams, can be used to find a first approximation of the two polymer relaxation constants constituting the youngest component of the spectrum. Summary. A straight elastic rod with intrinsic curvature under varying tension can undergo an instability and bifurcate to a filament made out of two helices with opposite handedness. This inversion of handedness, known as perversion, appears in a wide range of biological and physical systems and is investigated here within the framework of thin elastic rods described by the static Kirchhoff equations. In this context, a perversion is represented by a heteroclinic orbit joining asymptotically two fixed points representing helices with opposite torsion. A center manifold reduction and a normal form transformation for a triple zero eigenvalue reduce the dynamics to a third-order reversible dynamical system. The analysis of this reduced system reveals that the heteroclinic connection representing the physical solution results from the collapse of pairs of symmetric homoclinic orbits. Results of the normal form calculation are compared with numerical solutions obtained by continuation methods. The possibility of self-contact and the elastic characteristics of the perverted rod are also studied.  相似文献

The dynamic Kirchhoff equations, describing a thin elastic rod of infinite length, are considered in connection with the study of the conformations of polymeric chains. A?novel special traveling wave solution that can be interpreted as a conformational soliton propagating at constant speed is obtained, featuring arbitrary non-constant curvature and torsion of the rod, in the simple case of constant cross-section, homogeneous density and elastic isotropy. This traveling wave corresponds to a specific constraint on the twist-to-bend ratio of the constant stiffness parameters, which in turn appears to be compatible with the experimental evidence for the mechanical properties of real polymeric chains. Due to such a constraint, the square of the velocity of the solitary wave is directly proportional to the bending stiffness and inversely proportional to the density and to the principal momentum of inertia of the rod. Several applications to the study of conformational changes in polymeric chains are given.  相似文献

The spatial displacement of an absolutely rigid vertical rod in a viscous medium is considered; the rod is hinged at the upper end to a platform moving on the surface of the viscous medium over a specified curvilinear trajectory. A load is attached to the lower end of the rod. Using a variational Lagrangian equation, a nonlinear system of ordinary differential equations in terms of the angles of rod rotation determining the position of points of this rod at any time is obtained. As an example, the problem is solved for conditions of acceleration, uniform motion, and deceleration of the reference point moving over a trajectory consisting of rectilinear sections and portions of circles. A new method is presented for the characterization of three principal complex shear moduli of linear viscoelastic orthotropic materials, which is based on the measurement of complex torsional vibration frequencies of three rods of rectangular cross section. The rod-type test specimens are cut out from a composite plate along the principal material axes in the reinforcement plane. It is shown that the torsional stiffness of an elastic rod can be calculated not only by means of the Saint-Venant torsion theory, but also using a relationship obtained from the Reissner-Mindlin theory of plates. The transfer to a viscoelastic model of the material with complex moduli is realized with the help of the correspondence principle. By applying a numerical sensitivity analysis of natural frequencies to the shear moduli, the advisable width-to-thickness ratios of the specimens are found. As an illustration of data processing, the dynamic shear moduli and the loss factors for a GFRP fabric with an epoxy matrix are calculated. A comparison of the method offered with some known static and dynamic methods for determining the shear moduli of orthotropic materials is given.  相似文献

The axysimmetrical torsion problem for a finite cylinder with an arbitrary quantity of the cylindrical layers is solved. The cylinder is weaked by the parallel circular cracks in the first internal layer. The stated boundary valued problem problem is reduced to the system of the integro-duferential equations solving with the help of the orthogonal polinomials method. The stress intensity factors (SIF) are obtained. In this paper, a nonlinear theory for a straight rod is presented from the general theory of the three-dimensional deformable-body in the Cartesian coordinate frame. A set of nonlinear strains is presented, and the stretch on central curve exactly satisfies the deformation geometrical relations. The relations between the Euler angles and deformation are given from the curvatures and torsion curvatures of the central curves, which can easily explain the existing theories of rods and beams. Full nonlinear equations of motion for a nonlinear rod are developed via the vector form. Such a treatise is different from the traditional treatises of nonlinear rods, based on the Cosserat’s theory (e.g., Cosserat and Cosserat [1] in 1896) or the Kirchhoff assumptions (e.g., Kirchhoff [18] in 1859; Love [3] in 1944). This paper extends the ideas of Galerkin [4] in 1915. The nonlinear theory of thin rods can reduce to the existing theories for thin rods and beams, such ideas presented in this paper can be applied for development of the nonlinear theory for plates and shells as well.  相似文献

The inverse mode problems for the finite element model of an axially vibrating rod are formulated and solved. It is known that for the finite element model, based on linear shape functions, of the rod, the mass and stiffness matrices are both tridiagonal. It is shown that the finite element model of the rod can be constructed from two eigenvalues, their corresponding eigenvectors and the total mass of the rod. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the construction of a physically realizable rod with positive mass and stiffness elements from two eigenpairs and the total mass of the rod are established. If these conditions are satisfied, then the construction of the model is unique.  相似文献
