The possibility of production of new particles in yet unobserved decay channels of the KL meson is discussed in connection with the KL → 2μ puzzle. Experimental possibilities of searching for these particles are considered.  相似文献

We study the deviations from the exponential decay law, both in quantum field theory (QFT) and quantum mechanics (QM), for an unstable particle which can decay in (at least) two decay channels. After a review of general properties of non-exponential decay in QFT and QM, we evaluate in both cases the decay probability that the unstable particle decays in a given channel in the time interval between t and t+dt. An important quantity is the ratio of the probability of decay into the first and the second channel: this ratio is constant in the Breit-Wigner limit (in which the decay law is exponential) and equals the quantity Γ 1/Γ 2, where Γ 1 and Γ 2 are the respective tree-level decay widths. However, in the full treatment (both for QFT and QM) it is an oscillating function around the mean value Γ 1/Γ 2 and the deviations from this mean value can be sizable. Technically, we study the decay properties in QFT in the context of a superrenormalizable Lagrangian with scalar particles and in QM in the context of Lee Hamiltonians, which deliver formally analogous expressions to the QFT case.  相似文献

We report a search for CP-violating asymmetry in B0-->D(*+/-)D-/+ decays. The analysis employs two methods of B0 reconstruction: full and partial. In the full reconstruction method all daughter particles of the B0 are required to be detected; the partial reconstruction technique requires a fully reconstructed D- and only a slow pion from the D(*+)-->D0pi(+)(slow) decay. From a fit to the distribution of the time interval corresponding to the distance between two B meson decay points we calculate the CP-violating parameters and find the significance of nonzero CP asymmetry to be 2.7 standard deviations.  相似文献

We discuss the production of particles via interaction with the earth’s gravitational field. Explicit calculations are done for high energy scalars passing through earth’s gravitational field. We show for example, that the width for the scalar processφ→3φ can become comparable with a typical weak decay width at an energy scale of a few TeV. (Similar conclusions can be drawn about particles that ultimately couple to some scalar field.) We speculate that similar processes may be responsible for many of the anomalies in the 10–104 TeV experimental data.  相似文献

In the CP-violating Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, we study the production of a neutralino–chargino pair at the LHC. For their decays into three leptons, we analyze CP asymmetries which are sensitive to the CP phases of the neutralino and chargino sector. We present analytical formulas for the entire production and decay process, and identify the CP-violating contributions in the spin correlation terms. This allows us to define the optimal CP asymmetries. We present a detailed numerical analysis of the cross sections, branching ratios, and the CP observables. For light neutralinos, charginos, and squarks, the asymmetries can reach several 10%. We estimate the discovery potential for the LHC to observe CP violation in the trilepton channel.  相似文献

Unstable particles, together with their stable decay products, constitute probability collectives that are defined as Hilbert spaces with dimension higher than one, nondecomposable in a particle basis. Their structure is considered in the framework of Birkhoff-von Neumann's Hilbert subspace lattices. Bases with particle states are related to bases with a diagonal scalar product by a Hilbert-bein involving the characteristic decay parameters (in some analogy to the n-bein structures of metrical manifolds). Probability predictions as expectation values, involving unstable particles, have to take into account all members of the higher dimensional collective. For example, the unitarity structure of the S-matrix for an unstable particle collective can be established by a transformation with its Hilbert-bein.  相似文献

A detailed analysis of neutral kaons decaying to is presented based on the complete data set containing half a million events. Time-dependent decay rate asymmetries are measured between initially tagged and and for different regions of the phase space. These asymmetries, resulting from the interference between the CP-conserving decay amplitude of and the decay amplitude of – either CP-violating or CP-conserving – allow the determination of the parameters (CP-violating) and (CP-conserving), and also of the main isospin components of the decay amplitude. The branching ratio of (CP-conserving) is deduced directly from . In addition, we extract the slope parameters describing the energy dependence of the Dalitz plot. The whole set of our results fits well within the current phenomenological picture of the neutral-kaon system including CP violation and Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT). We consider a spontaneously broken gauge theory based on the standard model (SM) group with scalar fields that carry arbitrary representations of G, and we investigate some general properties of the charged and neutral current involving these fields. In particular we derive the conditions for having real or complex couplings of the Z boson to two different neutral or charged scalar fields, and for the existence of CP-violating Z-scalar-scalar couplings. Moreover, we study models with the same fermion content as in the SM, with one SU(2) Higgs singlet, and an arbitrary number of Higgs doublets. We show that the structure of the Z-Higgs boson and of the Yukawa couplings in these models can be such that CP-violating form factors which conserve chirality are induced at the one-loop level.

We consider in detail the non-renormalisable scalar potential of three Higgs doublets transforming as an irreducible triplet of Δ(27)Δ(27) or Δ(54)Δ(54). We start from a renormalisable potential that spontaneously leads to a vacuum with CP-violating phases independent of arbitrary parameters – geometrical CP violation. Then we analyse to arbitrarily high order non-renormalisable terms that are consistent with the symmetry and we demonstrate that inclusion of non-renormalisable terms in the potential can preserve the geometrical CP-violating vacuum.  相似文献

We have searched for direct production of scalar top quarks at the Collider Detector at Fermilab in 88 pb(-1) of p&pmacr; collisions at sqrt[s] = 1.8 TeV. We assume the scalar top quark decays into either a bottom quark and a chargino or a bottom quark, a lepton, and a scalar neutrino. The event signature for both decay scenarios is a lepton, missing transverse energy, and at least two b-quark jets. For a chargino mass of 90 GeV/c(2) and scalar neutrino masses of at least 40 GeV/c(2), we find no evidence for scalar top production and present upper limits on the production cross section in both decay scenarios.  相似文献

Establishing CP-violation in the lepton sector is one of the most challenging future tasks in neutrino physics. The lepton mixing matrix contains one Dirac phase and, if neutrinos are Majorana particles, two additional CP-violating phases. I will review the main theoretical aspects of CP-violation in the lepton sector. Then, I will present the strategies for determining the Dirac and the Majorana CP-violating phases in long-baseline and neutrinoless double beta decay experiments, respectively. Leptonic CP-violation has received recently a lot of attention as it might be at the origin of the baryon asymmetry of the Universe. Within the context of the see-saw mechanism, I will discuss the possible connection between the CP-violating phases measurable at low energy with the ones entering in leptogenesis.  相似文献

The di-photon decay channel of the lightest Higgs boson is considered as a probe to explore CP violation in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). The scalar/pseudo-scalar mixing is considered along with CP violation entering through the Higgs–sfermion–sfermion couplings, with and without light sparticles. The impact of a light stop on the decay width and branching ratio (BR) is established through a detailed study of the amplitude of the process H1→γγ. The other sparticles have little influence even when they are light. With a suitable combination of other MSSM parameters, a light stop can change the BR by more than 50% with a CP-violating phase φμ∼90°, while the change is almost nil with a heavy stop.  相似文献

We present a method for simulating the production and decay of particles in the sextet representation of SU(3) C including the simulation of QCD radiation. Results from the Monte Carlo simulation of sextet diquark production at the LHC including both resonant and pair production are presented. We include limits on resonant diquark production from recent ATLAS results and perform the first simulation studies of the less model dependent pair production mechanism.  相似文献

The diagonalization of the leptonic mass matrices is performed in the framework of the triplet model to generate Majorana mass terms for neutrinos. This allows the understanding of the role played by the CP-violating phases in the Higgs sector and their relation with those of the charged-current Lagrangian. It is shown that all the leptonic mixings, including those of the Higgs couplings, can be given in terms of a Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix and the relative Majorana phases of the neutrino fields. The characteristic Majorana phases, always appearing together with the neutrino mass, are present in |ΔL|=2 pieces and they show up in processes with a) neutrino-antineutrino propagation, and/or b) at least two different neutrinos as asymptotic states, and/or c) a vertex with a doubly-charged scalar. The phenomenological implications for processes with these characteristics are given.  相似文献

We analyze the f0(1810) state recently observed by the BES collaboration via radiative J/ψ decay to a resonant φω spectrum and confront it with DM2 data and glueball theory. The DM2 group only measured ωω decays and reported a pseudoscalar but no scalar resonance in this mass region. A rescattering mechanism from the open flavored KK̄ decay channel is considered to explain why the resonance is only seen in the flavor asymmetric ωφ branch along with a discussion of positive C-parity charmonia decays to strengthen the case for preferred open flavor glueball decays. We also calculate the total decay width of a glueball with this mass to be roughly 100 MeV, in agreement with the narrow, newly found f0, and smaller than the expected estimate of 200–400 MeV. We conclude that this discovered scalar hadron deserves further experimental investigation, especially in the KK̄ channel, and if shown to be different from the f0(1710), will become a solid glueball candidate. Finally we comment on other, but less likely, possible assignments for this state.  相似文献

We present measurements of time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in neutral B decays to several CP eigenstates. The measurement uses a data sample of 23x10(6) Upsilon(4S)-->BbarB decays collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B Factory at SLAC. In this sample, we find events in which one neutral B meson is fully reconstructed in a CP eigenstate containing charmonium and the flavor of the other neutral B meson is determined from its decay products. The amplitude of the CP-violating asymmetry, which in the standard model is proportional to sin2beta, is derived from the decay time distributions in such events. The result is sin2beta = 0.34+/-0.20 (stat)+/-0.05 (syst).  相似文献

Resonant tau leptogenesis with observable lepton number violation   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We consider a minimal extension of the standard model with one singlet neutrino per generation that can realize resonant leptogenesis at the electroweak scale. In particular, the baryon asymmetry in the Universe can be created by lepton-to-baryon conversion of an individual lepton number, for example, that of the tau lepton. The current neutrino data can be explained by a simple CP-violating Yukawa texture. The model has several testable phenomenological implications. It contains heavy Majorana neutrinos at the electroweak scale, which can be probed at e+ e- linear colliders, and predicts e- and mu-lepton-number-violating processes, such as 0nu betabeta decay, mu --> e gamma, and mu-e conversion in nuclei, with rates that are within reach of experimental sensitivity.  相似文献

We present low-energy theorems for the calculation of loop amplitudes with external scalar or pseudoscalar Higgs bosons which are light compared to the loop particles. Starting from existing lowest-order versions of these theorems, we show how their applicability may be extended to the two-loop level. To illustrate the usefulness of these theorems, we discuss a number of applications to Higgs production and decay at and beyond the one-loop order.  相似文献
