Abstract— A continuation of studies is presented on the excited triplet state of flavins using EPR techniques. Detailed experiments are reported on the triplet state of flavin-mono-nucleotide (FMN) and flavin-adenine-dinucleotide (FAD). Action spectra of triplet yield are explained in terms of the optical absorption for FMN and FAD. Effects of light saturation, concentration quenching and oxygen on the triplet state are discussed. It is suggested that the rate constant k 3 for the intersystem crossover from the excited singlet to the triplet state is increased by oxygen and quenchers such as KI. Detailed kinetic studies are presented on the formation of the triplet state.  相似文献

Extensive triplet state spectroscopic investigations were carried out with a series of 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(methoxyphenyl)porphyrins. Triplet absorption spectra, triplet lifetime, triplet quantum yield and quantum yield for singlet oxygen production were determined with different absorption and emission techniques, using the frequency-doubled beam of a Nd:YAG laser. It has been found that these synthetic porphyrins are effective photosensitizers which can be used as model compounds to investigate the theoretical and instrumental aspects of PDT.  相似文献

Electronic structure and singlet–singlet and triplet–triplet absorption spectra of 3-ethyl-lumiflavin were calculated using time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) methods. The measured lower-energy transitions are well reproduced in calculations, which are limited by the neglect of the solvent interactions. All the observable singlet–singlet and triplet–triplet transitions have π–π* character. Singlet oxygen production by the studied compound demonstrated that, similar to other lumiflavins, it is an efficient singlet oxygen sensitizer (Δ = 0.55). Radiationless deactivation of the S1 state in solutions was shown to result in the T1 state formation.  相似文献

Two methylated thienocarbazoles and two of their synthetic nitro-precursors have been examined by absorption, luminescence, laser flash photolysis and photoacoustic techniques. Their spectroscopic and photophysical characterization involves fluorescence spectra, fluorescence quantum yields and lifetimes, and phosphorescence spectra and phosphorescence lifetimes for all the compounds. Triplet-singlet difference absorption spectra, triplet molar absorption coefficients, triplet lifetimes, intersystem crossing S1 --> T1 and singlet molecular oxygen yields were obtained for the thienocarbazoles. In the case of the thienocarbazoles it was found that the lowest-lying singlet and triplet excited states, S1 and T1, are of pi,pi* origin, whereas for their precursors S1 is n,pi*, and T1 is pi,pi*. In both thienocarbazoles it appears that the thianaphthene ring dictates the S1 --> T1 yield, albeit there is less predominance of that ring in the triplet state of the linear thienocarbazole, which leads to a decrease in the observed phiT value.  相似文献

Triplet state properties including transient triplet absorption spectrum, intersystem crossing yields in solution at room temperature and phosphorescence spectra, quantum yields and lifetimes at low temperature as well as singlet oxygen yields were obtained for poly(N-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) in 2-methyl-tetrahydrofuran (2-MeTHF), cyclohexane or benzene. The results allow the determination of the energy value for the lowest lying triplet state and also show that triplet formation and deactivation is a minor route for relaxation of the lowest excited singlet state of PVK. In addition, they show the triplet state is at higher energy than reported heavy metal dopants used for electrophosphorescent devices, such that if this is used as a host it will not quench their luminescence.  相似文献

Vibrational spectra of the lowest energy triplet states of thymine and its 2′-deoxyribonucleoside, thymidine, are reported for the first time. Time-resolved infrared (TRIR) difference spectra were recorded over seven decades of time from 300 fs to 3 μs using femtosecond and nanosecond pump-probe techniques. The carbonyl stretch bands in the triplet state are seen at 1603 and 1700 cm−1 in room-temperature acetonitrile-d3 solution. These bands and additional ones observed between 1300 and 1450 cm−1 are quenched by dissolved oxygen on a nanosecond time scale. Density-functional calculations accurately predict the difference spectrum between triplet and singlet IR absorption cross sections, confirming the peak assignments and elucidating the nature of the vibrational modes. In the triplet state, the C4O carbonyl exhibits substantial single-bond character, explaining the large (70 cm−1) red shift in this vibration, relative to the singlet ground state. Femtosecond TRIR measurements unambiguously demonstrate that the triplet state is fully formed within the first 10 ps after excitation, ruling out a relaxed 1nπ* state as the triplet precursor.  相似文献

Abstract— The photoproperties of derivatized silicon naphthalocyanine have been investigated in order to assess its potential as a photosensitizer for photo-dynamic therapy. Absorption, fluorescence, phosphorescence and triplet absorption spectra have been measured. Oxygen quenching of the triplet state formed singlet oxygen in significant yields.  相似文献

The primary photophysical and photochemical processes in the photochemistry of 1-acetoxy-2-methoxyanthraquinone (1a) were studied using femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy. Excitation of 1a at 270 nm results in the population of a set of highly excited singlet states. Internal conversion to the lowest singlet npi* excited state, followed by an intramolecular vibrational energy redistribution (IVR) process, proceeds with a time constant of 150 +/- 90 fs. The 1npi* excited state undergoes very fast intersystem crossing (ISC, 11 +/- 1 ps) to form the lowest triplet pipi* excited state which contains excess vibrational energy. The vibrational cooling occurs somewhat faster (4 +/- 1 ps) than ISC. The primary photochemical process, migration of acetoxy group, proceeds on the triplet potential energy surface with a time constant of 220 +/- 30 ps. The transient absorption spectra of the lowest singlet and triplet excited states of 1a, as well as the triplet excited state of the product, 9-acetoxy-2-methoxy-1,10-anthraquinone (2a), were detected. The assignments of the transient absorption spectra were supported by time-dependent DFT calculations of the UV-vis spectra of the proposed intermediates. All of the stationary points for acyl group migration on the triplet and ground state singlet potential energy surfaces were localized, and the influence of the acyl group substitution on the rate constants of the photochemical and thermal processes was analyzed.  相似文献

The β-carotene(β-Car) aggregate was prepared by self-assembly in cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) micelle. The ground state absorption measurement showed that the aggregate has J-type characteristics and resonance Raman spectra gave the intrinsic explanation of molecular interaction in aggregate. Upon excitation at the optical allowed S2 state of aggregate, direct generation of triplet state via singlet fission(SF) mechanism was observed. Excitation dynamics was elucidated by fs-transient absorption spectroscopy and ns-flash photolysis, respectively. The triplet state life time of aggregate was found to be independent of the ambient oxygen molecules.  相似文献

The photophysics of the 1-nitronaphthalene molecular system, after the absorption transition to the first singlet excited state, is theoretically studied for investigating the ultrafast multiplicity change to the triplet manifold. The consecutive transient absorption spectra experimentally observed in this molecular system are also studied. To identify the electronic states involved in the nonradiative decay, the minimum energy path of the first singlet excited state is obtained using the complete active space self-consistent field∕∕configurational second-order perturbation approach. A near degeneracy region was found between the first singlet and the second triplet excited states with large spin-orbit coupling between them. The intersystem crossing rate was also evaluated. To support the proposed deactivation model the transient absorption spectra observed in the experiments were also considered. For this, computer simulations using sequential quantum mechanic-molecular mechanic methodology was used to consider the solvent effect in the ground and excited states for proper comparison with the experimental results. The absorption transitions from the second triplet excited state in the relaxed geometry permit to describe the transient absorption band experimentally observed around 200 fs after the absorption transition. This indicates that the T(2) electronic state is populated through the intersystem crossing presented here. The two transient absorption bands experimentally observed between 2 and 45 ps after the absorption transition are described here as the T(1)→T(3) and T(1)→T(5) transitions, supporting that the intermediate triplet state (T(2)) decays by internal conversion to T(1).  相似文献

Abstract— Triplet-triplet absorption spectra of a series of carotenoid pigments in benzene solution have been determined by pulse radiolysis experiments. The natural lifetimes in deaerated solution have also been measured. They fall in the range 2–10 µ s as found for other carotenoids under similar conditions. Pulsed laser (337 nm) excitation of benzene solutions containing oxygen, carotenoid and a photosensitized molecule (anthracene) showed the generation of absorption spectra of the triplet states. These absorptions decayed by first order kinetics in such a way as to indicate that they were formed in reactions with singlet oxygen, itself generated by interaction with the anthracene triplet state. Bimolecular rate constants for energy transfer from O*2 (1g), to carotenoid have been evaluated.  相似文献

Abstract The results of a nanosecond laser flash photolysis investigation of the UVA sunscreen Mexoryl* SX in various solvent environments and within a commercial sunscreen formulation are reported. To the best of our knowledge this is the first laser flash photolysis study of a commercial suncare formulation. In each of these environments kinetic UV-visible absorption measurements following nanosecond 355 nm laser excitation reveals a short-lived species with a solvent-dependent absorption maximum around 470–500 nm and a solvent-dependent lifetime of 50–120 ns. This transient absorption is attributed to the triplet state of Mexoryl* SX on the basis that it is quenched by molecular oxygen leading to the formation of singlet oxygen in acetonitrile. The singlet oxygen quantum yield (φΔ), determined by comparative time-resolved near-infrared luminescence measurements and extrapolated to the limit of complete triplet state quenching, is estimated as 0.09 ± 0.03 in acetonitrile. In aqueous solution the shorter triplet state lifetime combined with lower ambient oxygen concentrations precludes significant triplet state quenching. For the commercial sunscreen formulation there was no observable difference in the measured triplet lifetime between samples exposed to oxygen or argon, suggesting that the singlet oxygen quantum yield in such environments is likely to be orders of magnitude lower than that measured in acetonitrile.  相似文献

During the maturation of red wines, the anthocyanins of grapes are transformed into pyranoanthocyanins, which possess a pyranoflavylium cation as their basic chromophore. Photophysical properties of the singlet and triplet excited states of a series of synthetic pyranoflavylium cations were determined at room temperature in acetonitrile solution acidified with 0.10 mol dm?3 trifluoroacetic acid (TFA, to inhibit competitive excited state proton transfer) and at 77 K in a rigid TFA‐acidified isopropanol glass. In solution, the triplet states of these pyranoflavylium cations are efficiently quenched by molecular oxygen, resulting in sensitized formation of singlet oxygen, as confirmed by direct detection of the triplet‐state decay by laser flash photolysis and of singlet oxygen monomol emission in the near infrared. The strong visible light absorption, the relatively small singlet‐triplet energy differences, the excited state redox potentials and the reasonably long lifetimes of pyranoflavylium triplet states in the absence of molecular oxygen suggest that they might be useful as triplet sensitizers and/or as cationic redox initiators in polar aprotic solvents like acetonitrile.  相似文献

Dendrimers with a C60 core have been obtained by cyclization of dendritic bis-malonate derivatives at the carbon sphere. The resulting bis-methanofullerene derivatives have been characterised by electrospray (ES) and/or MALDI-TOF mass spectrometries. UV-VIS absorption spectra, fluorescence spectra, and fullerene singlet excited state lifetimes have been determined in solvents of different polarity (toluene, dichloromethane, acetonitrile). These data suggest a tighter core/periphery contact upon increase of solvent polarity and dendrimer size. In all the investigated solvents, the fullerene triplet lifetimes are steadily increased with the dendrimer volume, reflecting lower diffusion rates of O2 inside the dendrimers along the series. Measurements of quantum yields of singlet oxygen sensitization indicate that longer lived triplet states generate lower amounts of singlet oxygen (1O2) in dichloromethane but not in apolar toluene suggesting a tighter contact between the dendritic branches and the fullerene core in CH2Cl2. In acetonitrile, the trend in singlet oxygen production is peculiar. Effectively, enhanced singlet oxygen production is monitored for the largest dendrimer. This reflects specific interactions of excited 1O2 molecules with the dendritic wedges, as probed by singlet oxygen lifetime measurements, possibly as a consequence of trapping effects.  相似文献

We studied the generation and decay dynamics of triplet excitons in tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum (Alq3) thin films by using transient absorption spectroscopy. Absorption spectra of both singlet and triplet excitons in the film were identified by comparison with transient absorption spectra of the ligand molecule (8-hydroxyquinoline) itself and the excited triplet state in solution previously reported. By measuring the excitation light intensity dependence of the absorption, we found that exciton annihilation dominated under high-density excitation conditions. Annihilation rate constants were estimated to be gammaSS = (6 +/- 3) x 10(-11) cm3 s(-1) for single excitons and gammaTT = (4 +/- 2) x 10(-13) cm3 s(-1) for triplet excitons. From detailed analysis of the light intensity dependence of the quantum yield of triplet excitons under high-density conditions, triplet excitons were mainly generated through fission from highly excited singlet states populated by singlet-singlet exciton annihilation. We estimated that 30% of the highly excited states underwent fission.  相似文献

Steady state absorption and fluorescence as well as the time resolved absorption studies in the pico and subpicosecond time domain have been performed to characterize the excited singlet and triplet states of Michler's ketone (MK). The nature of the lowest excited singlet (S1) and triplet (T1) states depends on the polarity of the solvent - in nonpolar solvents they have either pure nπ * character or mixed character of nπ * and ππ * states but in more polar solvents the states have CT character. Concentration dependence of the shapes of the fluorescence as well the excited singlet and triplet absorption spectra provide the evidence for the association of the MK molecules in the ground state.  相似文献

The photophysics of lumichrome, 1-methyllumichrome, and lumiflavin in water solutions have been investigated. Fluorescence lifetimes of 2.7 and 2.2 ns were observed for lumichrome and 1-methyllumichrome, respectively, the corresponding triplet state lifetimes of 17 and 18 μs have been obtained from the transient absorption spectra. Evidence for long lived species with absorption maxima near 450 nm and lifetimes of ca. 400 μs has been found in the transient absorption spectra of both lumichromes. Quantum yields for the sensitised production of singlet oxygen, φΔ, are 0.36 and 0.41 for lumichrome and 1-methyllumichrome, respectively, in D2O.  相似文献

Quasilinear absorption and luminescence spectra of 1,2-benzotetraphene were obtained in polycrystalline matrices at 77 K. Tne energies of successive excited singlet states as well as the energy of the lowest excited triplet state were found experimentally and compared with those calculated by the PPP CI method. The fluorescence lifetime and quantum yield were determined experimentally. Moreover, the radiationless transition probabilities, lifetime of triplet state and phosphorescence quantum yield were estimated employing the Siebrand-Williams model. The results obtained suggest that radiationless ISC processes are the main deactivation channel of the S1 and T1 states. The vibrational analysis of quasilinear absorption and luminescence spectra was performed and fundamental frequencies of ground and first excited singlet states were determined.  相似文献

Abstract —Our recent research on photochemiluminescence (PCL) of pigments in solutions is reviewed. PCL was observed in the course of photooxidation by oxygen of chlorophyll a , bacteriochlorophyll, protochlorophyll, their analogs, synthetic dyes and aromatic hydrocarbons. The PCL of chlorophyll was studied in detail. It depends on oxygen concentration, intensity of exciting light, pH, nature of pigments, solvents etc. The thermochemiluminescence was observed after illumination of liquid and solid pigment solutions at low temperature (down to - 170C). The excitation spectra of PCL coincide with the pigment absorption spectra. The PCL emission spectra in most cases differ from those of pigment fluorescence. Electron acceptors, electron donors, radical inhibitors and β-carotene quench PCL. The quenching efficiency of electron acceptors is similar to their action on the chlorophyll triplet state. The quenching effect of radical inhibitors and β-carotene correlates with their activity in reaction with singlet oxygen. The effect of quenchers on the chlorophyll fluorescence, photobleaching and pigment sensitized oxygenation was studied. Analysis of experimental data allowed the assumption that chemiluminescence accompanies the decomposition of labile pigment peroxides. The accumulation of peroxides is probably due to the reaction in the complex of pigment and singlet oxygen, formed as a result of energy transfer from photoexcited (triplet) pigment molecules to oxygen. The terminal chemiluminescence emission proceeds from the singlet excited states of molecules of pigments and products of their oxidation.  相似文献

We have synthesised nine monomeric azaheterofullerene (AZA) derivatives, RC(59)N, with a wide variety of different side chains R and investigated their spectroscopic and photophysical properties in toluene and o-dichlorobenzene (ODCB). Measurements include their ground-state absorption spectra, molar absorption coefficient (epsilon(G)), fluorescence spectra, fluorescence quantum yields (Phi(F)), singlet-state lifetimes (tau(F)), triplet-state absorption spectra, triplet molar absorption coefficients (epsilon(T)), singlet oxygen (Phi(Delta)), and triplet state (Phi(T)) quantum yields. The replacement of a carbon by a nitrogen atom in the C(60) sphere strongly affects most of the spectroscopic and photophysical properties. The chemical nature of the R moiety has definite effects on these properties in contrast with minor effects on the chemical nature of the addends in [6,6]-ring bridged monoadduct methano[60]fullerene derivatives. These effects concern properties of the ground state, singlet excited state, and triplet states of our nine RC(59)N derivatives and in particular the values of photophysical parameters epsilon(G), epsilon(T), Phi(Delta), and Phi(T), which are significantly lower than those of analogous monoadduct [6,6]-ring bridged methano[60]fullerene derivatives.  相似文献
