By means of a new method of mapping an algebraic number field into a euclidean space Voronoi's unit algorithm is generalized to all algebraic number fields and it is proved that the generalized Voronoi algorithm computes the fundamental units of all algebraic number fields of unit rank 1, i.e., of the real quadratic fields, of the complex cubic fields, and of the totally complex quartic fields.  相似文献

A splitting field of a central simple algebra is said to be absolute Galois if it is Galois over some fixed subfield of the centre of the algebra. The paper proves an existence theorem for such fields over global fields with enough roots of unity. As an application, all twisted function fields and all twisted Laurent series rings over symbol algebras (or p-algebras) over global fields are crossed products. An analogous statement holds for division algebras over Henselian valued fields with global residue field.The existence of absolute Galois splitting fields in central simple algebras over global fields is equivalent to a suitable generalization of the weak Grunwald-Wang theorem, which is proved to hold if enough roots of unity are present. In general, it does not hold and counter examples have been used in noncrossed product constructions. This paper shows in particular that a certain computational difficulty involved in the construction of explicit examples of noncrossed product twisted Laurent series rings cannot be avoided by starting the construction with a symbol algebra.  相似文献

It is proved that the generalized Voronoi algorithm developed in Part I of this paper computes the fundamental units of all fields of unit rank 2, i.e., of the totally real cubic fields, of the quartic fields with two real conjugate fields, of the quintic fields with only one real conjugate field, and of the totally complex sextic fields.  相似文献

In 1981, Weisser proved that there are exactly four Galois cubic number fields with Hilbert modular threefolds of arithmetic genus one. In this paper, we extend Weisser's work to cover all cubic number fields. Our main result is that there are exactly 33 fields with Hilbert modular threefolds of arithmetic genus one. The 3-dimensional Hopf vector field is shown to be a stable harmonic section of the unit tangent bundle. In contrast, higher dimensional Hopf vector fields are unstable harmonic sections; indeed, there is a natural variation through smooth unit vector fields which is locally energy-decreasing, and whose asymptotic limit is a singular vector field of finite energy. Continuous and discrete variations in material properties lead to substantial difficulties for most mesh-based methods for modeling and analysis of physical fields. The meshfree method described in this paper relies on distance fields to boundaries and to material features in order to represent variations of material properties as well as to satisfy prescribed boundary conditions. The method is theoretically complete in the sense that all distributions of physical properties and all physical fields are represented by generalized Taylor series expansions in terms of powers of distance fields. We explain how such Taylor series can be used to construct solution structures – spaces of functions satisfying the prescribed boundary conditions exactly and containing the necessary degrees of freedom to satisfy additional constraints. Fully implemented numerical examples illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.  相似文献

The mathematical content of variational problems of the mechanics of rigid-plastic media reduces to minimizing convex functionals in non-reflexive spaces of solenoidal vector fields. Different formulations are presented in /1/. Problems are examined there in which discontinuous velocity fields occur. The initial functional is undetermined in such fields. In this connection, the problem is posed of constructing that extension of the original set of kinematically allowable velocity fields as would contain all their possible discontinuities allowed by the mechanics of rigidly plastic media, and of continuing the original functional into the extension obtained. This problem is solved in this paper for the case when the velocity field is given on the whole surface of the rigid-plastic body.  相似文献

In Dickson (1896–1897) [2], the author listed all permutation polynomials up to degree 5 over an arbitrary finite field, and all permutation polynomials of degree 6 over finite fields of odd characteristic. The classification of degree 6 permutation polynomials over finite fields of characteristic 2 was left incomplete. In this paper we complete the classification of permutation polynomials of degree 6 over finite fields of characteristic 2. In addition, all permutation polynomials of degree 7 over finite fields of characteristic 2 are classified.  相似文献

If G is a permutation group acting on a set Ω, a subset Λ of Ω is called a regular set for G if the set-stabilizer of Λ in G is the identity subgroup. We show here that the projective and affine semi-linear groups acting in the natural way as permutation groups on their respective finite geometries, have, in general, for all finite dimensions and all finite fields, regular sets of points. The exceptions to this are found, and an extension of the results to infinite fields is discussed.  相似文献

In a former notice the author has shown that the so-calledh-closed fields (coming from halfordered fields) can be characterized in a similar way than the real closed fields (coming from ordered fields). But the case of characteristic 2 had been excluded. In this notice now a new characterization ofh-closed fields is given which includes fields of characteristic 2. The notions of the Gibbs measure and of the Markov random field are known to coincide in the real case. But in the p-adic case, the class of p-adic Markov random fields is broader than that of p-adic Gibbs measures. We construct p-adic Markov random fields (on finite graphs) that are not p-adic Gibbs measures. We define a p-adic Markov random field on countable graphs and show that the set of such fields is a nonempty closed subspace in the set of all p-adic probability measures  相似文献

The fundamental theorem on the connection of spin and statistics is deduced from the basic symmetry between emission and absorption processes in quantum field theory. We study conformal vector fields and their zeros on spacetimes which are non-conformally-flat. Depending on the Petrov type, we classify all conformal vector fields with zeros. The problems of reducing a conformal vector field to a homothetic vector field are considered. We show that a spacetime admitting a proper homothetic vector field is (locally) a plane wave. This precises a well-known theorem of {Alekseevski}, where all these spacetimes are determined in a more general form.  相似文献

In this paper, we mainly investigate curvature properties and harmonicity of invariant vector fields on the four-dimensional Oscillator groups endowed with three left-invariant pseudo-Riemannian metrics of signature (2,2). A previously proposed algebra of asymptotic fields in quantum electrodynamics is formulated as a net of algebras localized in regions which in general have unbounded spacelike extension. Electromagnetic fields may be localized in ‘symmetrical spacelike cones’, but there are strong indications this is not possible in the present model for charged fields, which have tails extending in all space directions. Nevertheless, products of appropriately ‘dressed’ fermion fields (with compensating charges) yield bi-localized observables.  相似文献

Let (M = G/H;g)denote a four-dimensional pseudo-Riemannian generalized symmetric space and g = m + h the corresponding decomposition of the Lie algebra g of G. We completely determine the harmonicity properties of vector fields belonging to m. In some cases, all these vector fields are critical points for the energy functional restricted to vector fields. Vector fields defining harmonic maps are also classified, and the energy of these vector fields is explicitly calculated.  相似文献
