Results of studies of structural and mechanical properties ofNi 3 Fe alloy are presented. The densities and types of dislocations in the alloy, the parameters of dislocation interaction, and the energy expended in deformation ofNi 3 Fe specimens in various initial states are estimated. The strain hardening behavior of orderedNi 3 Fe alloy is shown to be influenced by a number of external factors, such as deformation or γ-irradiation. A method is presented for determining the dependence of the probability of heterogeneous recombination γw from results of measurements of the heat flux Qw to the surface of a catalytic sensor exposed to a pulsed supersonic flow of gas dissociated by an incident shock wave propagating in a shock tube. It is shown that the accuracy of the determination of γw depends not only on the accuracy of the measurements in the experiment, but also on the results of mathematical modeling of the flow of the dissociated gas over the surface of the body. Results from an analysis of an experiment are presented. Institute of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics at Tomsk University, Tomsk 634050. A poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC,  Mw = 102×103)(\mbox{PVC,}\;{\rm M}_{\rm w} =102\times 10^3) di-octyl phthalate (DOP) gel with PVC content of 20 wt.% was prepared by a solvent evaporation method. The dynamic viscoelsticity and elongational viscosity of the PVC/DOP gel were measured at various temperatures. The gel exhibited a typical sol–gel transition behavior with elevating temperature. The critical gel temperature (Tgel) characterized with a power–law relationship between the storage and loss moduli, G and G, and frequency ω, G¢=G¢¢/tan  ( np/2 ) μ wn{G}^\prime={G}^{\prime\prime}{\rm /tan}\;\left( {{n}\pi {\rm /2}} \right)\propto \omega ^{n}, was observed to be 152°C. The elongational viscosity of the gel was measured below the Tgel. The gel exhibited strong strain hardening. Elongational viscosity against strain plot was independent of strain rate. This finding is different from the elongational viscosity behavior of linear polymer solutions and melts. The stress–strain relations were expressed by the neo-Hookean model at high temperature (135°C) near the Tgel. However, the stress–strain curves were deviated from the neo-Hookean model at smaller strain with decreasing temperature. These results indicated that this physical gel behaves as the neo-Hookean model at low cross-linking point, and is deviated from the neo-Hookean model with increasing of the PVC crystallites worked as the cross-linking junctions.  相似文献

An overdeterministic method for determining the opening-mode stress-intensity factor,K I , from many measurements of the radial strain, rr , is described. The method was verified with an experimental study of a compact-tension specimen where strains along the 0, 45 and 90-degree lines were measured using strip gages with ten strain sensors per strip gage. The results indicated errors in the range of one to three percent with three or four parameter models of the strain field in the region near the crack tip. Paper was presented at the 1986 SEM Spring Conference on Experimental Mechanics which was held in New Orleans, LA on June 8–13.  相似文献

Linear viscoelastic (LVE) measurements as well as non-linear elongation measurements have been performed on stoichiometrically imbalanced polymeric networks to gain insight into the structural influence on the rheological response (Jensen et al., Rheol Acta 49(1):1–13, 2010). In particular, we seek knowledge about the effect of dangling ends and soluble structures. To interpret our recent experimental results, we exploit a molecular model that can predict LVE data and non-linear stress–strain data. The slip-link model has proven to be a robust tool for both LVE and non-linear stress–strain predictions for linear chains (Khaliullin and Schieber, Phys Rev Lett 100(18):188302–188304, 2008, Macromolecules 42(19):7504–7517, 2009; Schieber, J Chem Phys 118(11):5162–5166, 2003), and it is thus used to analyze the experimental results. Initially, we consider a stoichiometrically balanced network, i.e., all strands in the ensemble are attached to the network in both ends. Next we add dangling strands to the network representing the stoichiometric imbalance, or imperfections during curing. By considering monodisperse network strands without dangling ends, we find that the relative low-frequency plateau, G0/GN0G_0/G_N^0, decreases linearly with the average number of entanglements. The decrease from GN0G_N^0 to G 0 is a result of monomer fluctuations between entanglements, which is similar to “longitudinal modes” in tube theory. It is found that the slope of G′ is dependent on the fraction of network strands and the structural distribution of the network. The power-law behavior of G is not yet captured quantitatively by the model, but our results suggest that it is a result of polydisperse dangling and soluble structures.  相似文献

This study presents an experimental investigation of the large plastic deformation of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) submitted to plane strain compression. PET samples, obtained by injection moulding, annealed and non-annealed, were deformed using a specific compression device developed for this purpose. The obtained stress–strain curves at different temperatures and strain rates are useful for engineering applications and show a significant temperature dependence and a minor dependence on the strain rate. A softening temperature as a minimum temperature necessary to initiate deformation when a minimum, almost zero, stress is applied is introduced. This temperature, at the zero stress and strain limit, we denominate “Stress–Strain independent softening Temperature (T SOF)”. The T SOF values, 104 and 113°C for non-annealed and annealed PET, respectively, have been obtained using three different strain rates, indicating that the property is sensitive to the thermal history of the material.  相似文献

Local strain data obtained throughout the entire weld region encompassing both the weld nugget and heat affected zones (HAZs) are processed using two methodologies, uniform stress and virtual fields, to estimate specific heterogeneous material properties throughout the weld zone. Results indicate that (a) the heterogeneous stress–strain behavior obtained by using a relatively simple virtual fields model offers a theoretically sound approach for modeling stress–strain behavior in heterogeneous materials, (b) the local stress–strain results obtained using both a uniform stress assumption and a simplified uniaxial virtual fields model are in good agreement for strains ɛ xx < 0.025, (c) the weld nugget region has a higher hardening coefficient, higher initial yield stress and a higher hardening exponent, consistent with the fact that the steel weld is overmatched and (d) for ɛ xx > 0.025, strain localization occurs in the HAZ region of the specimen, resulting in necking and structural effects that complicate the extraction of local stress strain behavior using either of the relatively simple models.

Measurement of drainage relative permeability by the centrifuge method was first introduced by Hagoort (SPE J. 29(3):139–150, 1980). It has been shown that capillary end effects can cause error in the measurement of relative permeability if a minimum rotational speed is not honoured. To determine the minimum rotational speed that makes the capillary end effect negligible, ω min, we propose that the value of capillary-gravity number, N cg, should be of the order of 10−2 or smaller. This conclusion is based on the use a Forward–backward scheme consisting of a forward numerical simulator developed for centrifuge experiments and applying Hagoort’s method as a backward model. The article presents the use of this Forward–backward scheme as a powerful tool for error analysis such as determining the impact of capillary end effects. By using this loop, we first determine ω min for specific core and fluid properties. Later, we generalize the ω min calculations by using the definition of N cg as a “rule of thumb” for designing relative permeability experiments by centrifuge method. We also demonstrate another use of this loop for controlling the quality of the experimental data.  相似文献

This work aimed at improving fine-scale measurements using cold-wire anemometry. The dissipation ɛ θ of the temperature variance was measured on the axis of a heated turbulent round jet. The measurements were performed with a constant current anemometer (CCA) operating fine Pt–10%Rh wires at very low overheat. The CCA developed for this purpose allowed the use of the current injection method in order to estimate the time constant of the wire. In the first part of the paper, it is shown that the time constants obtained for two wire diameters −d=1.2 and d=0.58 μm – compare well with those measured at the same time using two other methods (laser excitation and pulsed wire). Moreover, for these two wires, the estimated time constants were in good agreement with those obtained from a semi-empirical relation. In the second part of the paper, a compensation procedure – post-processing filtering – was developed in order to improved the frequency response of the cold-wire probes. The measurements carried out on the axis of the jet (Re D =16 500, Re λ ≃ 167) showed that the frequency response of the 1.2 μm wire was significantly improved. In fact, the spectral characteristics of the compensated signal obtained with the 1.2 μm wire compared fairly well with those from the 0.58 μm wire. Moreover, the results indicated that the compensation procedure must be applied when the cut-off frequency of the cold-wire f c is lower than two times the Kolmogorov frequency f K. In the case where f c ≃ 0.6f K, the compensation procedure can reduce the error in the estimate of ɛ θ by more than 20%. When f c ≃ 2f K, the effect of the compensation is reduced to about 5%. The grating objective speckle method has been applied in whole-field strain analysis of carbon-fiber-woven polyimide-composite materials. A sequence of rosette fringe patterns was obtained from one single specklegram, indicating displacement components along four different directions with a 45-deg interval. The spatial frequencies, which represent the sensitivities of the fringe intervals, were 2400 ℓ/mm forU x ,U y and 1697 ℓ/mm forU 45 andU 135. Normal strain components, ɛ x , ɛ y , ɛ45, and ɛ135, were trasformed to quantitative topographic representations by coupling to a digital computer system. Shear strain can be determined by the rosette equations.  相似文献

This paper presents the application of Moire interferometry in measuring the displacement and strain field at notch-tip and crack-tip before and after crack propagation. The experiment is carried out using a three point bending beam with a notch. TheN x andN y fringe patterns representing displacement field, and the ΔN xx and ΔN γ/Δγ fringe patterns representing the strain field are obtained. The sensitivity of the measured displacement is 0.417 μm per fringe order. The displacement and strain distribution along the sectionx=0 have been worked out according toN x andN γ fringe patterns. A novel pressure sensor plate (normal stress sensor (NSS) from RheoSense, Inc.) was adapted to an Advanced Rheometrics Expansion System rheometer in order to measure the radial pressure profile for a standard viscoelastic fluid, a poly(isobutylene) solution, during cone–plate and parallel-plate shearing flows at room temperature. We observed in our previous experimental work that use of the NSS in cone-and-plate shearing flow is suitable for determining the first and second normal stress differences N 1 and N 2 of various complex fluids. This is true, in part, because the uniformity of the shear rate at small cone angles ensures the existence of a simple linear relationship between the pressure [i.e., the vertical diagonal component of the total stress tensor (Π22)] and the logarithm of the radial position r (Christiansen and coworkers, Magda et al.). However, both normal stress differences can also be calculated from the radial pressure distribution measured in parallel-plate torsional flows. This approach has rarely been attempted, perhaps because of the additional complication that the shear rate value increases linearly with radial position. In this work, three different methods are used to investigate N 1 and N 2 as a function of shear rate in steady shear flow. These methods are: (1) pressure distribution cone–plate (PDCP) method, (2) pressure distribution parallel-plate (PDPP) method, and (3) total force cone–plate parallel-plate (TFCPPP) method. Good agreement was obtained between N 1 and N 2 values obtained from the PDCP and PDPP methods. However, the measured N 1 values were 10–15% below the certified values for the standard poly(isobutylene) solution at higher shear rates. The TFCPPP method yielded N 1 values that were in better agreement with the certified values but gave positive N 2 values at most shear rates, in striking disagreement with published results for the standard poly(isobutylene) solution.

The influence of compressibility on the rapid pressure–strain rate tensor is investigated using the Green’s function for the wave equation governing pressure fluctuations in compressible homogeneous shear flow. The solution for the Green’s function is obtained as a combination of parabolic cylinder functions; it is oscillatory with monotonically increasing frequency and decreasing amplitude at large times, and anisotropic in wave-vector space. The Green’s function depends explicitly on the turbulent Mach number M t , given by the root mean square turbulent velocity fluctuations divided by the speed of sound, and the gradient Mach number M g , which is the mean shear rate times the transverse integral scale of the turbulence divided by the speed of sound. Assuming a form for the temporal decorrelation of velocity fluctuations brought about by the turbulence, the rapid pressure–strain rate tensor is expressed exactly in terms of the energy (or Reynolds stress) spectrum tensor and the time integral of the Green’s function times a decaying exponential. A model for the energy spectrum tensor linear in Reynolds stress anisotropies and in mean shear is assumed for closure. The expression for the rapid pressure–strain correlation is evaluated using parameters applicable to a mixing layer and a boundary layer. It is found that for the same range of M t there is a large reduction of the pressure–strain correlation in the mixing layer but not in the boundary layer. Implications for compressible turbulence modeling are also explored.   相似文献

Tensile impact experiments of EC8.0−24×7 glass fiber bundles at different low temperaturesT(14°C, −40°C and −10°C) and strain rates ɛ were carried out, and complete stress-strain curves were obtained. Within the range of the experiment temperatures and strain rates, it is found that the initial modulusE, the ultimate strength σmax and the unstable strain ɛ b of the glass fiber bundles all increase with ɛ at an identicalT. At an identical ɛ, with the decrease ofT, E and σmax increase; but ɛ b increases when 10°C>T>−40°C and decreases when −40°C>T>−100°C. The strain-rate- and temperature-dependent bimodal Weibull statistical constitutive theory was adopted for the statistical analysis of the experimental results, and the Weibull parameters of single fiber were obtained. The results show that the bimodal Weibull distribution function is suitable to represent the strength distribution of the glass fiber at low temperature and different strain rates. The differences in the mechanical properties between EC8.0−24×7 and EC5.5−12 ×14 glass fiber bundles were also discussed. Results of numerical simulations of a quasi-one-dimensional unsteady flow in a channel considered as an element of an air-breathing engine are presented. The influence of parameters of energy supplied in the pulsed-periodic mode (power, pulse frequency, and distribution of energy sources along the channel) on the characteristics of the flow with Mach numbers M 0 = 2.4–4.0 at the channel entrance is determined. A channel configuration that allows the energy supply distribution to be found from the condition of restriction of the maximum value of the gas temperature is proposed. __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika i Tekhnicheskaya Fizika, Vol. 50, No. 1, pp. 3–11, January–February, 2009.  相似文献

An experimental study of transient boiling heat transfer during a cooling of a hot cylindrical block with an impinging water jet has been made at atmospheric pressure. The experimental data were taken for the following conditions: a degree of subcooling of ΔT sub = 20–80 K, a jet velocity of u j  = 5–15 m/s, a nozzle diameter of d j  = 2 mm and three materials of copper, brass and carbon steel. The block was initially and uniformly heated to about 250 °C and the transient temperatures in the block were measured at eight locations in r-direction at two different depths from the surface during the cooling of hot block. The surface heat flux distribution with time was evaluated using a numerical analysis of 2-D heat conduction. Behavior of the wetting front, which is extending the nucleate boiling region outward, is observed with a high-speed video camera. A position of wetting region is measured and it is correlated well with a power function of time. The changes in estimated heat flux and temperature were compared with the position of wetting region to clarify the effects of subcooling, jet velocity and thermal properties of block on the transient cooling. The structure and the rheology of systems resulting from heating at 80°C isoelectric solutions of bovine serum albumin (BSA) in the concentration range 10–200mg/ml were studied.  Small-angle neutron scattering measurements view the systems as being formed of large aggregates of micrometric size with a close packed arrangement of denatured protein molecules. No indication of a fractal structure stands out.  The viscoelastic behaviour is linear up to about 5% strain, except in the BSA concentration range 30–90mg/ml where the linearity limit is below 1% strain. The viscoelastic response was analysed in the linear domain, or as close as possible to it, by combining the results of dynamic and creep recovery measurements. The dependence on concentration of the steady state viscosity, of the steady state compliance, and of the average retardation time shows a marked change around a concentration C 0∼50mg/ml, corresponding probably to a percolation threshold. We found a solution of an unsteady two-dimensional heat conduction equation in a functionally gradient material (FGM) which is subjected to a double thermal shock, namely, a local heating of a specimen by a power laser beam and cooling of a heated surface by a water-air spray. We developed an analytical method whereby a coating is described as a laminated plate composed of n layers with the constant material properties within a layer. Temperature distribution in a nonhomogeneous laminated plate is obtained in a form of series using the Laplace–Hankel integral transforms. In order to extend the model of a laminated plate to describe FGM where thermal physical characteristics are continuous functions of spatial coordinate, we considered the limiting case of the obtained temperature distribution when the thickness of the layer iΔ i → 0, and the number of layers n→∞. This allowed us to obtain the temperature distribution in an easy-to-use analytical form which can be used for determining thermal stresses in FGM. The dependence of the temperature distribution in FGM on the operating parameters of a double thermal shock method, e.g., a duration of heating, laser beam radius, the rate of a spray cooling, is discussed. We explore the behavior of a wormlike micellar solution under both steady and large amplitude oscillatory shear (LAOS) in a cone–plate geometry through simultaneous bulk rheometry and localized velocimetric measurements. First, particle image velocimetry is used to show that the shear-banded profiles observed in steady shear are in qualitative agreement with previous results for flow in the cone–plate geometry. Then under LAOS, we observe the onset of shear-banded flow in the fluid as it is progressively deformed into the non-linear regime—this onset closely coincides with the appearance of higher harmonics in the periodic stress signal measured by the rheometer. These harmonics are quantified using the higher-order elastic and viscous Chebyshev coefficients e n and v n , which are shown to grow as the banding behavior becomes more pronounced. The high resolution of the velocimetric imaging system enables spatiotemporal variations in the structure of the banded flow to be observed in great detail. Specifically, we observe that at large strain amplitudes (γ 0 ≥ 1), the fluid exhibits a three-banded velocity profile with a high shear rate band located in-between two lower shear rate bands adjacent to each wall. This band persists over the full cycle of the oscillation, resulting in no phase lag being observed between the appearance of the band and the driving strain amplitude. In addition to the kinematic measurements of shear banding, the methods used to prevent wall slip and edge irregularities are discussed in detail, and these methods are shown to have a measurable effect on the stability boundaries of the shear-banded flow.  相似文献
