This study investigates a deteriorating inventory problem in which the supplier simultaneously offers the retailer either a conditionally permissible delay in payments or a cash discount. In the case of a conditionally permissible delay, if the retailer orders more than a predetermined quantity, then he/she has a grace period to make the full payment. Otherwise, he/she must pay the payment for goods of certain proportion first while receiving the goods and has a grace period to pay off the rest. As to a cash discount, if the retailer pays for the entire amount of the order within a certain short period, then he/she will receive a cash discount from the supplier. In additions, from a financial standpoint, all cash outflows related to the inventory control that occur at different points of time have different values. Hence, it is necessary to take account of the factor of time value of monetary when drafting the replenishment policy. In a word, this paper uses an alternate approach-discount cash flow (DCF) analysis to establish an inventory problem for deteriorating items in which the supplier provides the retailer either a conditionally permissible delay or a cash discount. We then study the necessary and sufficient conditions for finding the optimal solution. Furthermore, we establish several theoretical results to obtain the solution that provides the smallest present value of all future cash flows. Finally, several numerical examples are given to illustrate the results and obtain some managerial insights.  相似文献

In developing mathematical models in inventory control it is assumed that payment will be made to the supplier for the goods immediately after receiving the consignment. However, in practice, it is found that the supplier allows a certain fixed period to settle the account. During this fixed period no interest is charged by the supplier, but beyond this period interest is charged under the terms and conditions agreed upon and, moreover, interest can be earned on the revenue received during the credit period. In this paper an attempt has been made to obtain the optimum order quantity of deteriorating items under a permissible delay in payments. A numerical example is also given.  相似文献

Many products such as fruits, vegetables, pharmaceuticals, volatile liquids, and others not only deteriorate continuously due to evaporation, obsolescence, spoilage, etc. but also have their expiration dates (i.e., a deteriorating item has its maximum lifetime). Although numerous researchers have studied economic order quantity (EOQ) models for deteriorating items, few of them have taken the maximum lifetime of a deteriorating item into consideration. In addition, a supplier frequently offers her/his retailers a permissible delay in payments in order to stimulate sales and reduce inventory. There is no interest charge to a retailer if the purchasing amount is paid to a supplier within the credit period, and vice versa. In this paper, we propose an EOQ model for a retailer when: (1) her/his product deteriorates continuously, and has a maximum lifetime, and (2) her/his supplier offers a permissible delay in payments. We then characterize the retailer’s optimal replenishment cycle time. Furthermore, we discuss a special case for non-deteriorating items. Finally, we run several numerical examples to illustrate the problem and provide some managerial insights.  相似文献

In many inventory situations, the purchaser is allowed a permissible period to pay back the cost of goods bought without paying any interest. Depending on the length of that payment period, the purchaser can earn interest on the sales of the inventory. This paper develops a model to determine an optimal ordering policy for deteriorating items under permissible delay of payment and allowable shortage. Different facets of the permissible delays in payment are discussed, and this generalized model exhibits a set of solutions that reduces to an existing model. Results are discussed and demonstrated with an illustrative example.  相似文献

In the business transactions, the supplier usually offers a permissible delay in payment to his retailer to attract more sales. In addition, a permissible delay in payment may be applied as an alternative to price discount. Based on the above phenomena, we incorporate a permissible delay in payment into the model of Yang [1] and develop a two-warehouse partial backlogging inventory model for deteriorating items with permissible delay in payment under inflation. The objective of this study is to derive the retailer’s optimal replenishment policy that maximizes the net present value of the profit per unit time. The necessary and sufficient conditions for an optimal solution are characterized. An algorithm is developed to find the optimal solution. Finally, numerical examples are provided to illustrate the proposed model. Sensitivity analysis is made and some managerial implications are presented.  相似文献

For the capacity of any warehouse is limited, it has to rent warehouse (RW) for storing the excess units over the fixed capacity W of the own warehouse (OW) in practice. The RW is assumed to offer better preserving facilities than the OW resulting in a lower rate of deterioration and is assumed to charge higher holding cost than the OW. In this paper, a two-warehouse inventory model for deteriorating items is considered with constant demand under conditionally permissible delay in payment. The purpose of this study is to find the optimal replenishment policies for minimizing the total relevant inventory costs. Useful theorems to characterize the optimal solutions have been derived. Furthermore, numerical examples are provided to illustrate the proposed model, sensitivity analysis of the optimal solutions with respect to major parameters is carried out and some managerial inferences are obtained.  相似文献

A recently published paper by Lee [C.C. Lee, Two-warehouse inventory model with deterioration under FIFO dispatching policy, European Journal of Operational Research 174 (2006) 861–873] considers different dispatching models for the two-warehouse inventory system with deteriorating items, in which Pakkala and Achary’s LIFO (last-in–first-out) model [T.P.M. Pakkala, K.K. Achary, A deterministic inventory model for deteriorating items with two warehouses and finite replenishment rate, European Journal of Operational Research 57 (1992) 71–76] is first modified, and then the author concludes that the modified LIFO model always has a lower cost than Pakkala and Achary’s LIFO model under a particular condition specified by him. The present note points out that this conclusion is incorrect and misleading. Alternatively, we provide a new sufficient condition such that the modified LIFO model always has a lower cost than Pakkala and Achary’s model. Besides, we also compare Pakkala and Achary’s original LIFO model with Lee’s FIFO (first-in–first-out) model for the special case where the two warehouses have the same deteriorating rates. Finally, numerical examples are provided to investigate and examine the impact of corresponding parameters on policy choice. The results in this note give a much clearer picture than those at Lee’s paper about the relationships between the different dispatching policies for the two-warehouse inventory system with deterioration items.  相似文献

In traditional inventory models, it is implicitly assumed that the buyer must pay for the purchased items as soon as they have been received. However, in many practical situations, the vendor is willing to provide the buyer with a permissible delay period when the buyer’s order quantity exceeds a given threshold. Therefore, to incorporate the concept of vendor–buyer integration and order-size-dependent trade credit, we present a stylized model to determine the optimal strategy for an integrated vendor–buyer inventory system under the condition of trade credit linked to the order quantity, where the demand rate is considered to be a decreasing function of the retail price. By analyzing the total channel profit function, we developed some useful results to characterize the optimal solution and provide an iterative algorithm to find the retail price, buyer’s order quantity, and the numbers of shipment per production run from the vendor to the buyer. Numerical examples and sensitivity analysis are given to illustrate the theoretical results, and some managerial insights are also obtained.  相似文献

A lot of researchers develop their inventory models under trade credit by assuming that the supplier offers the retailer fully permissible delay in payments and the products received are all non-defective. However, from the viewpoint of practice, it can often be found that the supplier offers the retailer a fully permissible delay in payments only when the order quantity is greater than or equal to the specific quantity. Furthermore, the products received usually contain some defective items. This paper establishes the EOQ model with defective items and partially permissible delay in payments linked to order quantity. It also uses the rigorous method of mathematics to derive the solution procedure to locate the optimal solution. Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate all theoretical results in this paper.

In a supplier-retailer-buyer supply chain, the supplier frequently offers the retailer a trade credit of S periods, and the retailer in turn provides a trade credit of R periods to her/his buyer to stimulate sales and reduce inventory. From the seller’s perspective, granting trade credit increases sales and revenue but also increases opportunity cost (i.e., the capital opportunity loss during credit period) and default risk (i.e., the percentage that the buyer will not be able to pay off her/his debt obligations). Hence, how to determine credit period is increasingly recognized as an important strategy to increase seller’s profitability. Also, many products such as fruits, vegetables, high-tech products, pharmaceuticals, and volatile liquids not only deteriorate continuously due to evaporation, obsolescence and spoilage but also have their expiration dates. However, only a few researchers take the expiration date of a deteriorating item into consideration. This paper proposes an economic order quantity model for the retailer where: (a) the supplier provides an up-stream trade credit and the retailer also offers a down-stream trade credit, (b) the retailer’s down-stream trade credit to the buyer not only increases sales and revenue but also opportunity cost and default risk, and (c) deteriorating items not only deteriorate continuously but also have their expiration dates. We then show that the retailer’s optimal credit period and cycle time not only exist but also are unique. Furthermore, we discuss several special cases including for non-deteriorating items. Finally, we run some numerical examples to illustrate the problem and provide managerial insights.  相似文献

During the growth stage of a product life cycle especially for high-tech products, the demand function increases with time. In this paper, we extend the constant demand to a linear non-decreasing demand function of time and incorporate a permissible delay in payment under two levels of trade credit into the model. The supplier offers a permissible delay linked to order quantity, and the retailer also provides a downstream trade credit period to its customers. The objective is to find the optimal replenishment cycle that minimizes the retailer’s annual total relevant cost per unit time. The condition for an optimal solution to the generalized model is presented and some fundamental theoretical results are established. Finally, numerical examples to illustrate the proposed model are provided. Sensitivity analysis is performed and some relevant managerial insights are obtained.  相似文献

This paper develops the integrated inventory models with permissible delay in payment, in which customers’ demand is sensitive to the buyer’s price. The models consider the two-level trade credit policy in the vendor–buyer and buyer–customer relationships in supply chain management. A simple recursive solution procedure is proposed for the integrated models to determine the buyer’s optimal pricing and production/order strategy. Although the total profit from the buyer and vendor increases together, the buyer’s share lessens. To compensate the buyer’s loss due to the cooperative relationship, a negotiation system is presented in order to allocate the profit increase to the vendor and buyer to determine the pricing and production/order strategy. A numerical example and sensitivity analysis are provided to illustrate the proposed model. The results indicate that the total profit from the buyer and vendor together can increase, although a price discount is given to the buyer in the proposed models.  相似文献

This paper explores the inventory replenishment policy for deteriorating items in which the supplier provides a permissible delay to the purchaser if the order quantity is greater than or equal to a predetermined quantity. As a matter of fact, the inventory system discussed by this paper is the same as that of Chang et al. [C.T. Chang, L.Y. Ouyang, J.T. Teng, An EOQ model for deteriorating items under supplier credit credits linked to ordering quantity, Appl. Math. Model. 27 (2003) 983–996]. However, their approach in solving the problems needs further analysis. This article deals with an alternative approach to present a simple procedure in order to determine the optimal ordering policy when the supplier provides a permissible delay in payments linked to order quantity. Numerical examples reveal that the solution algorithm described in this paper is accurate and rapid.  相似文献

In real life situation, it is observed that demand of an item depends on the length of the credit period offered by the retailer to his customers which has a positive impact on demand of an item. But the impact of credit period on demand has received a very little attention by researchers. Furthermore, by allowing shortages as backlogging, the impact on the cost from the decay of the products can be balanced out. A profitable decision policy between a supplier and the retailers can be characterized by an agreement on the permissible delay in payments. Recently, Jaggi et al. (Eur J Oper Res 190:130–135, 2008) have investigated the impact of credit linked demand on the retailer’s optimal replenishment policy. The objective of this study is to extend Jaggi et al. (Eur J Oper Res 190:130–135, 2008) model by incorporating deterioration and backlogging. That is, we formulate a two-echelon inventory model for deteriorating items with credit period dependent demand including shortages under two-level trade credit financing and determine the retailer’s optimal replenishment policy when both the supplier as well as the retailer offers the credit period to stimulate customer demand. Furthermore, we establish some useful theorems to characterize the optimal solution and provide an easy and useful computational algorithm with the help of computer code using the software Matlab 7.0 to determine the optimal shortage point, cycle length, ordering quantity and credit period. A numerical example is included to illustrate the solution procedure for the mathematical model developed. Finally, we implement sensitivity analysis of the optimal solution with respect to the major parameters of the system and obtain some important managerial insights.

In this paper, an EOQ (Economic Order Quantity) model is developed for a deteriorating item having time dependent demand when delay in payment is permissible. The deterioration rate is assumed to be constant and the time varying demand rate is taken to be a quadratic function of time. Mathematical models are also derived under two different circumstances, i.e. Case I: The credit period is less than or equal to the cycle time for settling the account and Case II: The credit period is greater than the cycle time for settling the account. The results are illustrated with numerical examples. Justification for considering a time quadratic demand and permissible delay in payment are discussed.  相似文献

A collaborative inventory system of single vendor and single buyer is developed to maximize the total profit of the whole system. However, the optimal solution for the whole system is not always beneficial to both players. To ensure mutual benefit, a negotiation factor is incorporated to share the profit between the two players according to their contributions. The permissible delay in payment is a win–win strategy for sharing profit in the collaborative system. A deteriorating inventory model with finite replenishment rate and price sensitive demand is assumed to occur in a high-tech, short life cycle and perishable electronic product. A numerical example is provided to illustrate our models. The sensitivity analysis of the demand rate, replenishment rate, deterioration factor, and other related parameters shows that the percentage extra total profit is significant when both the collaboration strategy and the deterioration factor are considered.  相似文献

Most researchers established their inventory lot-size models under trade credit financing by assuming that the supplier offers the retailer fully permissible delay in payments and the products received are all non-defective. However, in the real business environment, it often can be observed that the supplier offers the retailer a fully permissible delay in payments only when the order quantity is greater than or equal to the predetermined quantity Q d . In addition, an arriving order lot usually contains some defective items due to imperfect production processes or other factors. To capture this reality, the paper extends Huang (2007) economic order quantity (EOQ) model with partially permissible delay in payments to consider defective items. We formulate the proposed problem as a profit maximization EOQ model in which the replenishment cycle time is the decision variable. Then we use the arithmetic-geometric mean inequality approach to determine the optimal solution under various situations. An algorithm to obtain the optimal solution is also provided. Finally, the numerical examples and sensitivity analysis are given to illustrate the results.  相似文献
