For a real, Hermitian, or quaternion normal random matrix Y with mean zero, necessary and sufficient conditions for a quadratic form Q(Y) to have a Wishart-Laplace distribution (the distribution of the difference of two independent central Wishart Wp(mi,Σ) random matrices) are given in terms of a certain Jordan algebra homomorphism ρ. Further, it is shown that {Qk(Y)} is independent Laplace-Wishart if and only if in addition to the aforementioned conditions, the images ρk(Σ+) of the Moore-Penrose inverse Σ+ of Σ are mutually orthogonal: ρk(Σ+)ρ?(Σ+)=0 for k?.  相似文献

Let Y be an n×p multivariate normal random matrix with general covariance ΣY and W be a symmetric matrix. In the present article, the property that a matrix quadratic form YWY is distributed as a difference of two independent (noncentral) Wishart random matrices is called the (noncentral) generalized Laplacianness (GL). Then a set of algebraic results are obtained which will give the necessary and sufficient conditions for the (noncentral) GL of a matrix quadratic form. Further, two extensions of Cochran’s theorem concerning the (noncentral) GL and independence of a family of matrix quadratic forms are developed.  相似文献

Let Y be an n×p multivariate normal random matrix with general covariance ΣY. The general covariance ΣY of Y means that the collection of all np elements in Y has an arbitrary np×np covariance matrix. A set of general, succinct and verifiable necessary and sufficient conditions is established for matrix quadratic forms YWiY's with the symmetric Wi's to be an independent family of random matrices distributed as Wishart distributions. Moreover, a set of general necessary and sufficient conditions is obtained for matrix quadratic forms YWiY's to be an independent family of random matrices distributed as noncentral Wishart distributions. Some usual versions of Cochran's theorem are presented as the special cases of these results.  相似文献

Suppose that Y=(Yi) is a normal random vector with mean Xb and covariance σ2In, where b is a p-dimensional vector (bj),X=(Xij) is an n×p matrix. A-optimal designs X are chosen from the traditional set D of A-optimal designs for ρ=0 such that X is still A-optimal in D when the components Yi are dependent, i.e., for ii′, the covariance of Yi,Yi is ρ with ρ≠0. Such designs depend on the sign of ρ. The general results are applied to X=(Xij), where Xij∈{-1,1}; this corresponds to a factorial design with -1,1 representing low level or high level respectively, or corresponds to a weighing design with -1,1 representing an object j with weight bj being weighed on the left and right of a chemical balance respectively.  相似文献

We find the asymptotic distribution of the OLS estimator of the parameters β and ρ in the mixed spatial model with exogenous regressors Yn=Xnβ+ρWnYn+Vn. The exogenous regressors may be bounded or growing, like polynomial trends. The assumption about the spatial matrix Wn is appropriate for the situation when each economic agent is influenced by many others. The error term is a short-memory linear process. The key finding is that in general the asymptotic distribution contains both linear and quadratic forms in standard normal variables and is not normal.  相似文献

Let X and Y be two nonnegative and dependent random variables following a generalized Farlie-Gumbel-Morgenstern distribution. In this short note, we study the impact of a dependence structure of X and Y on the tail behavior of XY. We quantify the impact as the limit, as x, of the quotient of Pr(XY>x) and Pr(XY>x), where X and Y are independent random variables identically distributed as X and Y, respectively. We obtain an explicit expression for this limit when X is regularly varying or rapidly varying tailed.  相似文献

For normally distributed data from the k populations with m×m covariance matrices Σ1,…,Σk, we test the hypothesis H:Σ1=?=Σk vs the alternative AH when the number of observations Ni, i=1,…,k from each population are less than or equal to the dimension m, Nim, i=1,…,k. Two tests are proposed and compared with two other tests proposed in the literature. These tests, however, do not require that Nim, and thus can be used in all situations, including when the likelihood ratio test is available. The asymptotic distributions of the test statistics are given, and the power compared by simulations with other test statistics proposed in the literature. The proposed tests perform well and better in several cases than the other two tests available in the literature.  相似文献

If W and Z are independent random vectors and Y1, Y2, …, Yn are the result of a transformation satisfying certain general conditions then W and Z are distributed according to a certain class of densities if and only if for suitable q, (Y1, …, Yq) and (Yq+1, …, Yn) are independent.  相似文献

For kn-nearest neighbor estimates of a regression Y on X (d-dimensional random vector X, integrable real random variable Y) based on observed independent copies of (X,Y), strong universal pointwise consistency is shown, i.e., strong consistency PX-almost everywhere for general distribution of (X,Y). With tie-breaking by indices, this means validity of a universal strong law of large numbers for conditional expectations E(Y|X=x).  相似文献

Let X1,…,Xn be a random sample from an absolutely continuous distribution with non-negative support, and let Y1,…,Yn be mutually independent lifetimes with proportional hazard rates. Let also X(1)<?<X(n) and Y(1)<?<Y(n) be their associated order statistics. It is shown that the pair (X(1),X(n)) is then more dependent than the pair (Y(1),Y(n)), in the sense of the right-tail increasing ordering of Avérous and Dortet-Bernadet [LTD and RTI dependence orderings, Canad. J. Statist. 28 (2000) 151-157]. Elementary consequences of this fact are highlighted.  相似文献

Model identification and discrimination are two major statistical challenges. In this paper we consider a set of models Mk for factorial experiments with the parameters representing the general mean, main effects, and only k out of all two-factor interactions. We consider the class D of all fractional factorial plans with the same number of runs having the ability to identify all the models in Mk, i.e., the full estimation capacity. The fractional factorial plans in D with the full estimation capacity for k?2 are able to discriminate between models in Mu for u?k*, where k*=(k/2) when k is even, k*=((k-1)/2) when k is odd. We obtain fractional factorial plans in D satisfying the six optimality criterion functions AD, AT, AMCR, GD, GT, and GMCR for 2m factorial experiments when m=4 and 5. Both single stage and multi-stage (hierarchical) designs are given. Some results on estimation capacity of a fractional factorial plan for identifying models in Mk are also given. Our designs D4.1 and D10 stand out in their performances relative to the designs given in Li and Nachtsheim [Model-robust factorial designs, Technometrics 42(4) (2000) 345-352.] for m=4 and 5 with respect to the criterion functions AD, AT, AMCR, GD, GT, and GMCR. Our design D4.2 stands out in its performance relative the Li-Nachtsheim design for m=4 with respect to the four criterion functions AT, AMCR, GT, and GMCR. However, the Li-Nachtsheim design for m=4 stands out in its performance relative to our design D4.2 with respect to the criterion functions AD and GD. Our design D14 does have the full estimation capacity for k=5 but the twelve run Li-Nachtsheim design does not have the full estimation capacity for k=5.  相似文献

In this article we develop a nonparametric methodology for estimating the mean change for matched samples on a Lie group. We then notice that for k≥5, a manifold of projective shapes of k-ads in 3D has the structure of a 3k−15 dimensional Lie group that is equivariantly embedded in a Euclidean space, therefore testing for mean change amounts to a one sample test for extrinsic means on this Lie group. The Lie group technique leads to a large sample and a nonparametric bootstrap test for one population extrinsic mean on a projective shape space, as recently developed by Patrangenaru, Liu and Sughatadasa. On the other hand, in the absence of occlusions, the 3D projective shape of a spatial k-ad can be recovered from a stereo pair of images, thus allowing one to test for mean glaucomatous 3D projective shape change detection from standard stereo pair eye images.  相似文献

Let Rn be the range of a random sample X1,…,Xn of exponential random variables with hazard rate λ. Let Sn be the range of another collection Y1,…,Yn of mutually independent exponential random variables with hazard rates λ1,…,λn whose average is λ. Finally, let r and s denote the reversed hazard rates of Rn and Sn, respectively. It is shown here that the mapping t?s(t)/r(t) is increasing on (0,) and that as a result, Rn=X(n)X(1) is smaller than Sn=Y(n)Y(1) in the likelihood ratio ordering as well as in the dispersive ordering. As a further consequence of this fact, X(n) is seen to be more stochastically increasing in X(1) than Y(n) is in Y(1). In other words, the pair (X(1),X(n)) is more dependent than the pair (Y(1),Y(n)) in the monotone regression dependence ordering. The latter finding extends readily to the more general context where X1,…,Xn form a random sample from a continuous distribution while Y1,…,Yn are mutually independent lifetimes with proportional hazard rates.  相似文献

Let (X,Y) be a Rd×N0-valued random vector where the conditional distribution of Y given X=x is a Poisson distribution with mean m(x). We estimate m by a local polynomial kernel estimate defined by maximizing a localized log-likelihood function. We use this estimate of m(x) to estimate the conditional distribution of Y given X=x by a corresponding Poisson distribution and to construct confidence intervals of level α of Y given X=x. Under mild regularity conditions on m(x) and on the distribution of X we show strong convergence of the integrated L1 distance between Poisson distribution and its estimate. We also demonstrate that the corresponding confidence interval has asymptotically (i.e., for sample size tending to infinity) level α, and that the probability that the length of this confidence interval deviates from the optimal length by more than one converges to zero with the number of samples tending to infinity.  相似文献

In this paper it is shown that every nonnegative definite symmetric random matrix with independent diagonal elements and at least one nondegenerate nondiagonal element has a noninfinitely divisible distribution. Using this result it is established that every Wishart distribution Wp(k, Σ, M) with both p and rank (Σ) ≥ 2 is noninfinitely divisible. The paper also establishes that any Wishart matrix having distribution Wp(k, Σ, 0) has the joint distribution of its elements in the rth row and rth column to be infinitely divisible for every r = 1,2,…,p.  相似文献

A test of uniformity on the shape space Σmk is presented, together with modifications of the test statistic which bring its null distribution close to the large-sample asymptotic distribution. The asymptotic distribution under suitable local alternatives to uniformity is given. A family of distributions on Σmk is proposed, which is suitable for modelling shapes given by landmarks which are almost collinear.  相似文献

Based on a relation between the varieties Wdr(C) of special divisors on a curve C and subloci of effective divisors on C imposing a suitable number of conditions on a certain linear series we develop a tool for the construction of irreducible components of Wdr(C). Using this we discover new irreducible components of Wdr(C), for a general k-gonal curve C of genus g, and in some cases we can identify the duals of these components in KCWdr(C) = Wdr(C)(d′ = 2g − 2 − d, r′ = g − 1 − d + r).  相似文献

Let X be a reduced connected k-scheme pointed at a rational point xX(k). By using tannakian techniques we construct the Galois closure of an essentially finite k-morphism f:YX satisfying the condition H0(Y,OY)=k; this Galois closure is a torsor dominating f by an X-morphism and universal for this property. Moreover, we show that is a torsor under some finite group scheme we describe. Furthermore we prove that the direct image of an essentially finite vector bundle over Y is still an essentially finite vector bundle over X. We develop for torsors and essentially finite morphisms a Galois correspondence similar to the usual one. As an application we show that for any pointed torsor f:YX under a finite group scheme satisfying the condition H0(Y,OY)=k, Y has a fundamental group scheme π1(Y,y) fitting in a short exact sequence with π1(X,x).  相似文献

Item nonresponse occurs frequently in sample surveys and other applications. Imputation is commonly used to fill in the missing item values in a random sample {Yi;i=1,…,n}. Fractional linear regression imputation, based on the model with independent zero mean errors ?i, is used to create one or more imputed values in the data file for each missing item Yi, where {Xi,i=1,…,n}, is observed completely. Asymptotic normality of the imputed estimators of the mean μ=E(Y), distribution function θ=F(y) for a given y, and qth quantile θq=F-1(q),0<q<1 is established, assuming that Y is missing at random (MAR) given X. This result is used to obtain normal approximation (NA)-based confidence intervals on μ,θ and θq. In the case of θq, a Bahadur-type representation and Woodruff-type confidence intervals are also obtained. Empirical likelihood (EL) ratios are also obtained and shown to be asymptotically scaled variables. This result is used to obtain asymptotically correct EL-based confidence intervals on μ,θ and θq. Results of a simulation study on the finite sample performance of NA-based and EL-based confidence intervals are reported.  相似文献
