We have studied polarized electron collisions with Ar in which the target is simultaneously ionized and excited to form Ar+(3p(4)(1D)4p) states. We measured the integrated Stokes parameters of the subsequent fluorescence emitted by the (2)F(7/2), (2)F(5/2), (2)D(5/2), and (2)P(3/2) states along the direction of electron polarization. The Rubin-Bederson hypothesis is shown to hold for the L and S multipoles of these states. The electric quadrupole and hexadecapole of the 1D core are derived. By recoupling these moments with the electric quadrupole moment of the 4p electron, we calculate higher moments of the total ionic orbital angular momentum, including its hexacontatetrapole (64-pole) moment.  相似文献

The rotational angular momentum orientation and alignment of the NO fragments generated via linearly polarized 308 nm photodissociation of NO2 has been determined using laser induced fluorescence. By observing the dependence of the photofragment NO Doppler-resolved transition line shapes on experimental geometry, it has proved possible to determine multipole moments of the photofragment angular momentum distribution up to, and including, rank 3. The implications of the results for the mechanism of the dissociation are considered.  相似文献

This paper studies the quantum stereodynamics of the F + HD(υ = 0, j = 0) → HD + F/HF + D reaction at the collision energies of 0.52 and 0.87~kcal/mol. The quantum scattering calculations, based on Stark-Werner potential energy surfaces, show that the differential cross sections for the HF(υ' = 2) + D and DF(υ' = 3) + H channels are consistent with the recent theoretical results. Furthermore, the product rotational angular momentum orientation and alignment have been determined for some selected rovibrational states of the HF + D and DF + H channels.  相似文献

Calculated by the author previously [8], the anomalous magnetic moment (AMM) of the electron in an intense constant electric field changes nonmonotonically as the field increases, passing through a minimum and tending to the doubled Schwinger value for very strong fields. In the present paper, it is supposed that the AMM is related by the Lande factor to the angular momentum of a virtual electron accompanied by a virtual photon. This factor changes its effective value because of the influence of the external field on the motion of the virtual electron and its self-action. With increase of the electric field strength, the virtual electron can successively occupy the excited states l = 1, j = 1/2 and l = 1, j = 3/2 in addition to the original state with the orbital angular momentum l = 0 and the total angular momentum j = 1/2. The first of these excited states decreases the AMM and the second increases and doubles it if only this state is occupied for a very strong field. The latter condition is equivalent to the alignment of the spin and the orbital angular momentum of the electron along the field, while the total angular momentum of the entire system of the virtual electron and the virtual photon remains equal to 1/2.  相似文献

The tight focusing of spirally polarized focused vortex beams is analyzed numerically based on the vectorial Debye theory. The expressions for the electric field and the orbital angular momentum of focused beams are derived. It is shown that the intensity distribution in the focal plane is dependent on the specific spirally polarized state and the coefficient of the spiral polarization function. By presenting the phase contours of the component polarized in the radial direction, it is found that the radii of dislocation lines will increase with the increase of the power of the spirally polarization function. It is reveled that the same orbital angular momentum can be obtained for different spirally polarized state at certain distance along the propagation direction in the focal region. Besides, the orbital angular momentum distributions for different polarized states have fewer crossover points with each other for higher topological charge. The influence of the spirally polarized state on the orbital angular momentum in the focal plane is also studied.  相似文献

In this Letter, we study the molecular alignment and orientation driven by two elliptically polarized laser pulses.It is shown that the field-free molecular alignment can be achieved in a three-dimensional(3D) case, while the field-free molecular orientation is only along the x and y directions, and that the field-free alignment and orientation along different axes are related to the populations of the rotational states. It is demonstrated that changing the elliptic parameter is efficient for controlling both in-pulse and post-pulse molecular alignment and orientation. The delay time also has an influence on the field-free molecular alignment and orientation.  相似文献

The Gaussian vortex beam is assumed to be linearly polarized.The analytical expression of the electric field of a linearly polarized Gaussian vortex beam propagating in free space is derived by using the vectorial Rayleigh-Sommerfeld integral formulae.The propagating magnetic field of the linearly polarized Gaussian vortex beam is presented by taking the curl of the electric field.By employing the electromagnetic field of the linearly polarized Gaussian vortex beam beyond the paraxial approximation,the analytical expression of the angular momentum density of the linearly polarized Gaussian vortex beam is derived.The three components of the angular momentum density of a linearly polarized Gaussian vortex beam are demonstrated in the reference plane.The effects of the linearly polarized angle and the topological charge on the three components of the angular momentum density are investigated.To acquire the more longitudinal angular momentum density requires such an optimal choice that the linearly polarized angle is set to be zero and the topological charge increases.This research is useful to the optical trapping,the optical guiding,and the optical manipulation.  相似文献

We have measured the degree of helicity of fluorescent radiation from Ar+[3p4[3P]4p] 2P(o)1/2 formed by circularly polarized synchrotron radiation in the region of double excitations converging to Ar+3p4 nl satellite states. Angular momentum coupling allows the partitioning of the one unit of angular momentum brought into the system to be demarcated. We obtain a nonvanishing expectation value of the total spin of the residual ion-photoelectron system indicating significant relativistic interactions during the photoionization process.  相似文献

We demonstrate that the conversion of spin-to-orbital angular momentum in a focused vectorial light beam can be forbidden or enhanced by the electric-field-erased or increased spatial anisotropy of a uniaxial crystal undergoing the Pockels effect. A focused right-handed circularly polarized quasi-Gaussian beam incident on an electro-optic crystal strontium barium niobate is taken to illustrate the effect, and a conversion-forbidden electric field E(0)=-16.87 kV/cm is found. Of special interest is that single photons generated in this effect exhibit an entanglement of 2 deg of freedom of spin and orbital angular momentum, and it is electro-optically controllable.  相似文献

The g-factors of the intra-band states 12,13,14,15 in a magnetic-rotational band built on the 11 state in 82 Rb are measured for the first time by using a transient magnetic field-ion implantation perturbed angular distribution (TMF-IMPAD) method.The magnetic-rotational band in 82 Rb is populated by the 60 Ni(27 Al,4pn) 82 Rb reaction,and the time-integral Larmor precessions are measured after recoil implantation into a polarized Fe foil.The calculation of g-factors is also carried out in terms of a semi-classical model of independent particle angular momentum coupling on the basis of the four-quasiparticle configuration π(g 9/2) 2  π(p 3/2,f 5/2)  ν (g 9/2).The measured and calculated g-factors are in good agreement with each other.The g-factors and deduced shear angles decrease with the increase of spin along the band.This clearly illustrates the shear effect of a step-by-step alignment of the valence protons and neutrons in magnetic rotation.The semi-classical calculation also shows that the alignment of the valence neutron angular momentum is faster than that of the valence protons,which results in a decrease of g-factors with increasing spin.The present results provide solid evidence of the shear mechanism of magnetic rotation.  相似文献

Optical orientation of electrons was used to polarize the crystal lattice nuclei in quantum-size heterostructures and to study the effect of the conduction band spin splitting on the spin states of quasi-two-dimensional (2D) electrons drifting in an external electric field. High (~1%) nuclear polarization was registered using polarized luminescence and ODNMR in single GaAs/AlGaAs quantum wells. Measurement was made of the hyperfine interaction fields created by polarized nuclei on electrons and by electrons on nuclei. The spin-lattice relaxation of nuclei on the non-degenerate 2D electron gas was calculated. A comparison of the theoretical and experimental longitudinal relaxation times permitted the conclusion that the localized charge carriers are responsible for nuclear polarization in quantum wells in the temperature range of 2–77 K. A new effect has been studied, i.e. induction of an effective magnetic field acting on 2D electron spins when electrons drift in an external electric field in the quantum well plane. This effective field Beff is due to the spin splitting of the conduction band of 2D electrons. The paper discusses possible registration of an ODNMR signal when the field Beff is modulated by an electric current during optical orientation.  相似文献

We report a study of the momentum, angular momentum, and helicity of circularly polarized Airy beams propagating in free space. By using the vector angular spectrum representation, the explicit analytical expressions for the electric and magnetic field components of circularly polarized Airy beams are derived in detail. To overcome the drawbacks of classical kinematics formulae when applied to structured light beams, a general canonical approach is introduced to describe the momentum, angular momentum and helicity of Airy beams. Numerical simulation results for the spatial distributions of the canonical momentum, spin and orbital angular momentum, as well as the helicity densities are presented and discussed. This study may provide useful insights into the dynamical properties of Airy beams that may be important in several applications, including the optical control, micromanipulation, and information processing.  相似文献

A basis of polarization-dressed states is proposed for atomic energy levels degenerate in the total angular momentum projections in the case of interaction with elliptically polarized light. It is shown that instead of selection rules for the magnetic quantum number, the interaction in this basis can be presented as the sum of direct transitions between corresponding pairs of polarization-dressed states of the upper and lower levels. The explicit form of the basis is derived for ten possible combinations of dipole transitions between energy levels with angular momenta J = 0, 1/2, 1, 3/2, and 2. The problem of Rabi oscillations in such a system is considered as an application.  相似文献

The spin-orbit interaction (SOI) of light generated by tight focusing in optical tweezers is regularly employed in generating angular momentum - both spin and orbital - the effects being extensively observed in trapped mesoscopic particles. Specifically, the transverse spin angular momentum (TSAM), which arises due to the longitudinal component of the electromagnetic field generated by tight focusing is of special interest, both in terms of fundamental studies and associated applications. This study provides an effective and optimal strategy for generating TSAM in optical tweezers by tightly focusing first-order radially and azimuthally polarized vector beams with no intrinsic angular momentum (AM) into a refractive index stratified medium. The choice of such input fields ensures that the longitudinal spin angular momentum (LSAM) arising from the electric (magnetic) field for the radial (azimuthal) polarization is zero. As a result, the effects of the electric and magnetic TSAM are exclusively observed separately in the case of input first-order radially and azimuthally polarized vector beams on single optically trapped birefringent particles. This research opens up new and simple avenues for exotic and complex particle manipulation in optical tweezers.  相似文献

We apply a scattering theory of nonperturbative quantum electrodynamics to study the photoelectron angular distributions (PADs) of a hydrogen atom irradiated by linearly polarized laser light. The calculated PADs show main lobes and jetlike structure. Previous experimental studies reveal that in a set of above-threshold-ionization peaks when the absorbed-photon number increases by one, the jet number also increases by one. Our study confirms this experimental observation. Our calculations further predict that in some cases three more jets may appear with just one-more-photon absorption. With consideration of laser-frequency change, one less jet may also appear with one-more-photon absorption. The jetlike structure of PADs is due to the maxima of generalized phased Bessel functions, not an indication of the quantum number of photoelectron angular momentum states.  相似文献

The product angular momentum polarization of the reaction of H+NH is calculated via the quasiclassical trajectory method (QCT) based on the extended London-Eyring-Polanyi-Sato (LEPS) potential energy surface (PES) at a collision energy of 5.1 kcal/mol. The calculated results of the vector correlations are denoted by using the angular distribution functions. The polarization-dependent differential cross sections (PDDCSs) demonstrate that the rotational angular momentum of the product H2 is aligned and oriented along the direction perpendicular to the scattering plane. Vector correlation shows that the angular momentum of the product H2 is aligned in the plane perpendicular to the velocity vector. It suggests that the reaction proceeds preferentially when the reactant velocity vector lies in a plane containing all three atoms. The orientation and alignment of the product angular momentum affects the scattering direction of the product molecules. The polarization-dependent differential cross sections (PDD-CSs) reveal that scattering is predominantly in the backward hemisphere.  相似文献

Direct observability of polarization moments of a higher order—octupole orientation of atomic angular momenta (κ=3) and their hexadecapole alignment (κ=4)—from polarization of quadrupole radiation is discussed. The case when atoms are excited through dipole absorption of light producing orientation or alignment of angular momenta with κ=1 or 2 and higher polarization moments are induced by collisions with a beam of particles is considered. It is shown that differences in the laws of transformation of polarization moments of various ranks κ in rotations of coordinate axes allow us to select the pure contribution of the higher polarization moment under study from the signal of polarization of quadrupole emission by excluding the contribution of orientation or alignment with κ=1 or 2. Optimum systems of coordinate axes for the observation of octupole orientation from circular polarization of light and for the observation of hexadecapole alignment from linear polarization of light, in which the pure contribution of the higher polarization moment under study to polarization of quadrupole emission reaches its maximum, are calculated.  相似文献
