Fever in the post-cesarean section patient may indicate the presence of a potentially life-threatening complication, including abscess, ovarian vein thrombosis, and uterine dehiscence. Imaging findings are often utilized to ascertain the presence or absence of such complications. Familiarity with the normal findings in the post-operative period is essential in making this determination. The purpose of this investigation is to describe the MRI appearance of the post-cesarean section pelvis. Over a 67-month period, 50 patients with persistent low-grade fevers following c-section were referred for MR imaging. Imaging was performed 3-10 days post-operatively. Axial T1-weighted and T2-weighted images were acquired in addition to sagittal T2-weighted images. Coronal images were obtained in some cases. Clinical correlation was obtained through the patients charts, confirming discharge of the patients in stable condition. The uterine incision site usually demonstrated findings consistent with subacute hematoma. The anterior uterine myometrium demonstrated enlargement relative to the posterior uterine wall. Bladder flap hematomas were seen in 64% of cases. Three cases (6%) demonstrated parametrial edema and none of these patients demonstrated ovarian vein thrombosis. Two cases of pelvic hematoma were noted. The normal post-c-section incision site may demonstrate increased or decreased signal intensity on T2-weighted images and intact endometrial and serosal layers mitigate against the diagnosis of incisional dehiscence. Bladder flap hematomas occurred in slightly more than half the cases. Parametrial edema and pelvic hematoma can be seen as post-surgical changes.  相似文献

In this study, seven fruits have been tested on their magnetic properties, paramagnetic metal content and contrast enhancement in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of phantom and in vivo. Magnetic susceptibility was determined for the fruit pulps, as well as the contents of paramagnetic metals; iron, manganese and copper. The total content of these metals was 4.3, 8.6, 11.1, 10.9, 12.3, 8.3 and 29.3 mg/kg of fruit for plum, blueberry, apple (red), pineapple, beet, grape, blackberry, respectively, and with magnetic susceptibility of -2.29+/-0.07, -2.43+/-0.07, -2.13+/-0.07, -1.84+/-0.02, -1.75+/-0.01, -1.78+/-0.06, -2.18+/-0.07 SI, respectively. T(1)- and T(2)-weighted MR images were performed for the seven fruits and water (chi= -9.98 x 10(-3) SI) and in one subject. While there was no correlation between the magnetic susceptibility and contrast enhancement, there is a correlation with the total paramagnetic metal content determined with contrast enhancement in MRI. Thus, blackberry (Rubus spp.) contrast enhancement was the highest among the fruits in T(1)-weighted images. Furthermore, this fruit's contrast enhancement shows to be pH-dependent. These characteristics and the wide availability of the Rubus spp. suggest that it should be implemented as an oral contrast agent in images by MR to assess the function of the gastric section of the GI tract. Furthermore, it has the advantage of being a natural meal, so that it can be well tolerated by the patients and use as much as it is needed without side effects.  相似文献

We have implemented an MR technique that employs a rapid gradient echo sequence, preceded by magnetization preparation pulses to provide T1- and T2-weighted tissue contrast. With this technique, which can be identified as a member of a new family of pulse sequences, generically named Magnetization Prepared RApid Gradient Echo (MP-RAGE), very short repetition times are used, allowing acquisition times of less than one second and images virtually free of motion-induced artifacts during quiet respiration. Fifteen patients with known liver lesions (metastases, hemangiomas, and cysts) were examined using T1- and T2-weighted 2-dimensional MP-RAGE sequences, and the images were compared with conventional T1- and multi-echo T2-weighted spin-echo (SE) sequences. Signal difference-to-noise ratios (SD/Ns) of the lesions were calculated for all pulse sequences using corresponding axial images and were normalized for voxel volume. The mean normalized SD/Ns of the MP-RAGE sequences were generally comparable to those for the SE sequences. In addition, there were no noticeable respiratory artifacts on the MP-RAGE images whereas these were clearly present on the T2-weighted SE images and to a lesser degree on the T1-weighted SE images. It is concluded that the MP-RAGE technique could become an important method for evaluating the liver for focal disease.  相似文献

A new method of non-uniform image correction is proposed. Image non-uniformity is originated from the spatial distribution of RF transmission and reception fields, represented as B(1)(+) and B(1)(-), respectively. In our method, B(1)(+) mapping was performed invivo by a phase method. In B(1)(-) mapping, images with multiple TEs were acquired with a multi-echo adiabatic spin echo (MASE) sequence which enables homogeneous excitation. By T(2) fitting of these images an M(0) map (M(0)(MASE)) was obtained, in which signal intensity was expressed as the product of B(1)(-) and M?(1-e?(TR/T1)) . The ratio of this M(0)(MASE) map to the B(1)(+) map showed a similar spatial pattern in different human brains. These ratios of M(0)(MASE) to B(1)(+) in 24 subjects were averaged and then fitted with a spatially polynomial function to obtain a ratio map of B(1)(-)/B(1)(+)(α). Uniform image was achieved in spin echo (SE), MASE and inversion recovery turboFLASH (IRTF) images using measured B(1)(+) and calculated B(1)(-) by αB(1)(+). Water fractions in gray and white matters obtained from the M(0) images corrected by this method were in good agreement with previously reported values. From these experimental results, the proposed method of non-uniformity correction is validated at 4.7 T imaging.  相似文献

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) affords a considerable improvement in image contrast over other methods by virtue of the intrinsic NMR parameters spin density, T1, and T2. However, the clinical utility of routine quantification of these parameters is currently unknown. Calculated T2 images might afford additional disease specific information provided the calculation algorithm generates accurate T2 values. In this study, calculated T2 images of a MnCl2 phantom (spanning a T2 range of interest of 45.7 ms to 346.6 ms at 6 MHz) were generated utilizing a variety of calculation algorithms based upon a data set of 32 sequential spin-echo (SE) images. In general, when utilizing only the earliest sequential SE after the 90 degree pulse for the T2 calculation, the greater the number of SE used in the calculation algorithm, regardless of how they were averaged, the more accurate and less noisy was the calculated image. When only limited numbers of SE were used in the calculation algorithm, accuracy and noise varied with the choice of TE suggesting that there may be optimal timings for TE for a particular T2 range of interest. Forty-two calculated T2 head images of normal subjects, based upon data sets of 16 sequential SE, were evaluated for the T2 values of normal brain. These were compared to T2 images calculated via 7 different algorithms based upon 16 SE data sets from two patients with CNS pathology. An optimal algorithm was identified in which 16 SE Carr-Purcell-Meiboom-Gill (CPMG) were averaged into two images for the T2 calculation. With this algorithm, calculated images could be generated efficiently which were accurate and relatively noise free. The availability of such images maximized whatever disease specificity, and thus clinical utility, T2 information affords.  相似文献

The magnetization of the sigma-phase Fe(0.53)Cr(0.47) and Fe(0.52)V(0.48) alloys was studied as a function of temperature and field. The experiments show that both materials behave magnetically as re-entrant spin glass systems. Field versus temperature diagrams were obtained where the locations of the paramagnetic phase, the intermediate ferromagnetic-like phase and the spin glass fundamental state were displayed. These diagrams are in qualitative agreement with the predictions of the mean field theory for the interplay between the ferromagnetic and spin glass orderings. The critical phenomenology near the para-ferromagnetic transition could be investigated. It was found that the paramagnetic susceptibility is quite well described by the extended scaling scheme, where the reduced temperature is written as τ = (T - T(c))/T. The value obtained for the susceptibility critical exponent γ is intermediate between the prediction of the 3D Heisenberg universality class and the large values observed in spin glasses, as previously found in other re-entrant systems. The data do not confirm the validity of the extended scaling in the ferromagnetic-like phase. Using either the conventional or extended scaling protocols, the exponents β and δ were found to have values close to those reported for spin glass transitions. Despite the relevance of disorder and the anomalous values determined for β, γ and δ, the Widom scaling relation holds as an equality.  相似文献

To evaluate efficacy and safety of a superparamagnetic iron oxide contrast agent (ferristene) as an endoluminal contrast medium for magnetic resonance (MR) enteroclysis in a phase III trial. Twenty-three patients with history of known or suspected small bowel Crohn's disease underwent MR imaging of the abdomen at 0.5 T unit. The imaging protocol included two phases: the first one without administration of any contrast agent and the second one, where the small bowel was filled by enteroclysis with 800 ml of the luminal iron oxide contrast medium and Gd-DTPA (0.1 mmol/Kg) was administered intravenously. Axial Spin-Echo (SE) T1-weighted (T1w), proton-density and T2w images, sagittal and coronal SE T1w and Short TI Inversion Recovery (STIR) sequences were subsequently obtained. Three investigators blindly evaluated images to determine small bowel distribution of ferristene, presence of artifacts, delineation of bowel lesion/wall and the diagnostic value of ferristene combined with gadolinium. Pre- and postcontrast signal intensity measurements of bowel lesion/wall, bowel lumen and background noise were also calculated. Three patients withdrew before the procedure, therefore 20 patients were effectively included in the study. No significant difference between the three investigators' evaluations of the improvement of the diagnostic information was found (percentage of improvement of 90% with 95% confidence limits of 68% and 99%). A statistically significant difference between the first and third investigators was found for grading of quality of delineation of bowel lesion/wall. Signal intensity measures showed a significant increase of the bowel lesion/wall and background noise/lesion for the SE T1w images. No serious adverse event was reported in our series. MR enteroclysis using ferristene as an endoluminal contrast agent appears to be a safe and efficient procedure for the study of the small bowel.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine the utility of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in detecting and localizing clinically non-apparent postpartum pelvic hematomas, and to describe the therapeutic implications of MRI in these patients. MRI examinations were performed on seven women with pelvic pain and/or fullness following difficult vaginal deliveries. None had clinically evident hematomas, and none were scheduled for surgery. Hematomas in the pelvis were identified with conventional T1-weighted, and conventional and fast spin echo T2-weighted sequences. Intravenous contrast was not used. Pelvic hematomas were identified in contiguity with the vagina, cervix, and bladder, within the broad ligament, and in the presacral space. In two patients, hematomas were confined to the perivaginal and pericervical regions. In three patients, perivaginal hematomas extended between the double layers of the broad ligaments. In one patient, a perivaginal hematoma extended into the perivesical space. In one patient, a hematoma was identified only within the presacral space. Based on MRI as the only contributory imaging study, five patients were treated successfully with invasive means and two patients were managed successfully with conservative means. MRI successfully detects and localizes postpartum hematomas, information that often is unavailable from the clinical examination. This information facilitates decisions regarding the need for intervention and the appropriate type of procedure when intervention is necessary for this potentially life-threatening problem. We advocate the use of MRI to evaluate patients at risk for postpartum hemorrhage following difficult vaginal deliveries.  相似文献

移相误差是用移相法进行相位测量的主要误差。本文提出一种 5步移相算法 ,分两步进行相位计算 ,首先估计实际步进移相的线性移相误差 ,然后再利用此移相误差估计值计算相位分布。移相误差估计公式和相位计算公式简洁 ,算法简单易行 ,对线性移相误差和二次谐波的敏感度低 ,可基本消除线性移相误差对解调相位的影响。对本文提出的算法进行了仿真研究 ,同时给出了 Hariharan 5步算法、Surrel 6步最小算法的仿真结果。结果表明 :本算法明显优于以上两种算法 ,可基本消除线性移相误差引起的相位偏移。本算法适用于作等步移相的相位测量或移相的标定。  相似文献

Gradient recalled echo (GRE) images are sensitive to both paramagnetic deoxyhaemoglobin concentration (via T2*) and flow (via T1*). Large GRE signal intensity increases have been observed in subcutaneous tumors during carbogen (5% carbon dioxide, 95% oxygen) breathing. We term this combined effect flow and oxygenation-dependent (FLOOD) contrast. We have now used both spin echo (SE) and GRE images to evaluate how changes in relaxation times and flow contribute to image intensity contrast changes. T1-weighted images, with and without outer slice suppression, and calculated T2, T2* and "flow" maps, were obtained for subcutaneous GH3 prolactinomas in rats during air and carbogen breathing. T1-weighted images showed bright features that increased in size, intensity and number with carbogen breathing. H&E stained histological sections confirmed them to be large blood vessels. Apparent T1 and T2 images were fairly homogeneous with average relaxation times of 850 ms and 37 ms, respectively, during air breathing, with increases of 2% for T1 and 11% for T2 during carbogen breathing. The apparent T2* over all tumors was very heterogeneous, with values between 9 and 23 ms and localized increases of up to 75% during carbogen breathing. Synthesised "flow" maps also showed heterogeneity, and regions of maximum increase in flow did not always coincide with maximum increases in T2*. Carbogen breathing caused a threefold increase in arterial rat blood PaO2, and typically a 50% increase in tumor blood volume as measured by 51Cr-labelled RBC uptake. The T2* increase is therefore due to a decrease in blood deoxyhaemoglobin concentration with the magnitude of the FLOOD response being determined by the vascular density and responsiveness to blood flow modifiers. FLOOD contrast may therefore be of value in assessing the magnitude and heterogeneity of response of individual tumors to blood flow modifiers for both chemotherapy, antiangiogenesis therapy in particular, and radiotherapy.  相似文献

Low-temperature specific heat, magnetic susceptibility, and zero-field muon spin resonance (microSR) measurements have been performed in the quasi-one-dimensional molecular helimagnetic compound Gd(hfac)3NITEt. The specific heat presents two anomalies at T(0)=2.19+/-0.02 K and T(N)=1.88+/-0.02 K, which both disappear upon the application of a weak magnetic field. Conversely, magnetic susceptibility and muSR data show the divergence of two-spin correlation functions only at T(N)=1.88+/-0.02 K. These results suggest an experimental validation of Villain's conjecture of a two-step magnetic ordering in quasi-one-dimensional XY helimagnets; i.e., the paramagnetic phase and the helical spin solid phase are separated by a chiral spin liquid phase, where translational invariance is broken without violation of rotational invariance.  相似文献

In this study, the volume of susceptibility artifact was evaluated in T1 and T2-weighted spin echo (SE) and gradient echo (GRE) images at various parameters using registration and subtraction methods. In order to state an important misinterpretation problem in lymphography, it was demonstrated that a lymph node size may be enlarged approximately 10 times when a T2*-weighted GRE protocol is used. To overcome this problem a technical consideration using multisequence (GRE and SE) paradigm was suggested to ensure both lymph node detection and metastasis identification in lymphatic system. The paradigm was also extended by post-processing manipulation of the SE images using a registration and subtraction approach for detection of lymphatic lesions.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine the value of Gradient Echo imaging for the evaluation of cartilage (3D fatsat) and blood products (2D Hemoflash), and the use of contrast enhanced SE imaging for the evaluation of synovial changes, in comparison to the clinical evaluation of children with hemophilia A. We investigated 21 joints in 16 patients with evidence of hemophilia A (mean age 11.3+/-2.1 years). In all patients, clinical examination, plain film radiographs, and MR evaluation were performed magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed by using sagittal T1 SE and T2 SE images, as well as 3D fatsat GE and 2D GE images. Axial and sagittal T1 weighted SE images were obtained before and after contrast application. Findings from the clinical examination and MR imaging, regarding the evaluation of blood, synovia, and cartilage were compared. Clinical examination revealed evidence of a bleeding episode in 12 joints (57.1%), whereas MRI revealed evidence of blood or blood products in 15 joints (71.4%). Clinical investigations, including bleeding scores, pain scores, and physical examination scores did not correlate with MR findings. Due to the MR findings in 6 of 16 patients, therapeutic management was changed from on demand to prophylactic therapy. MR imaging with gradient echo and contrast-enhanced sequences is more sensitive than clinical examination for the detection of blood products in children with hemophilia. Its ability to demonstrate potentially early stages of cartilage or synovial alterations might assist in therapy planning. Clinical scores might underestimate effects of hemophilia.  相似文献

Paramagnetic susceptibility of BCC ferrite (αα-Fe) and of cementite (Fe3C), was calculated in a temperature range above the Curie point, using a density functional-based method in conjunction with statistical approximations. The electronic structure and the magnetic energy of both systems were calculated using the full potential linear augmented plane wave (FPLAPW) method as implemented in the Wien2k Code. The temperature effect was captured by introducing the Boltzmann statistical distribution to describe the orientation perturbation of the magnetic moments caused by thermal agitation. The magnetic moment was calculated in the temperature range from 1045 to 1175 K for alpha-iron and from 540 to 640 K for cementite. The modeling was performed for applied magnetic fields ranging from 1–2 T. The main assumption was that the effect of temperature and that of the applied magnetic field can be decoupled and, consequently, be treated separately. The calculated moments were used to estimate the paramagnetic susceptibility according to the linear relation χ=M/Bχ=M/B well established for paramagnetic systems. The calculated values were compared with published experimental measurements for iron and with values obtained from the Curie–Weiss law for cementite.  相似文献

Spin-lattice NMR relaxation times T1 in the laboratory frame and T1rho(off) as well as T1rho(off) in the rotating frame off-resonance were employed to the study of molecular dynamics of both pristine PPS and thermally treated poly(p-phenylene sulfide) (PPS). The temperature dependence of T1 was exponential in the whole temperature range studied, whereas T1rho only in low temperatures. In the high temperature range the distribution of relaxation times T1rho and correlation times tau(c) as well as activation energy Ea was observed. The distribution of activation energy determined from T1 minima at 15 and 30 MHz and from low temperature slopes of T1rho dependence as well as from spectral density functions (estimated from proton off-resonance technique) was attributed to the reorientation of phenylene groups around the sulfur-phenyl-sulfur axis in amorphous and crystalline phases of PPS. Furthermore, it is suggested that an additional relaxation mechanism related to interactions of protons with paramagnetic centers is operative in a low temperature range. After thermal treatment of PPS the low temperature minima disappeared and the relaxation times shortened in the low temperature regime. Both these facts were attributed to an increased contribution of spin diffusion in the relaxation process.  相似文献

A magnetic resonance imaging method is presented for imaging of heterogeneous broad linewidth materials. This method allows for distortionless relaxation weighted imaging by obtaining multiple phase encoded k-space data points with each RF excitation pulse train. The use of this method, turbo spin echo single-point imaging-(turboSPI), leads to decreased imaging times compared to traditional constant-time imaging techniques, as well as the ability to introduce spin-spin relaxation contrast through the use of longer effective echo times. Imaging times in turboSPI are further decreased through the use of low flip angle steady-state excitation. Two-dimensional images of paramagnetic doped agarose phantoms were obtained, demonstrating the contrast and resolution characteristics of the sequence, and a method for both amplitude and phase deconvolution was demonstrated for use in high-resolution turboSPI imaging. Three-dimensional images of a partially water-saturated porous volcanic aggregate (T(2L) approximately 200 ms, Deltanu(1/2) approximately 2500 Hz) contained in a hardened white Portland cement matrix (T(2L) approximately 0.5 ms, Deltanu(1/2) approximately 2500 Hz) and a water-saturated quartz sand (T(2) approximately 300 ms, T(2)(*) approximately 800 microseconds) are shown.  相似文献

Samples of nominal composition Fe0.9-xMn0.1Alx (0.1 ? x ? 0.5) were prepared by mechanical alloying starting from pure elements. Milling times of 24, 72 and 144 h were considered. The magnetic properties of the samples were studied by using 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy, vibrating sample magnetometry and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The phase distribution was determined from X-ray diffractometry. The so obtained results evidence a strong dependence on the milling time and Al concentration of the room-temperature hyperfine field distributions and coercive forces. The susceptibility measurements in the range of temperature between 10 K and 180 K suggest the occurrence of different types of transitions as the temperature is increased: (a) from a ferromagnetic to a paramagnetic phase, (b) from a reentrant spin-glass phase to a ferromagnetic one and (c) from spin-glass to a paramagnetic phase. These transitions are also strongly influenced by the milling time and the Al concentration.  相似文献

IntroductionAlthough T1 weighted spin echo (T1W SE) images are widely used to study anatomical details and pathologic abnormalities of the brain, its role in delineation of lesions and reduction of artifacts has not been thoroughly investigated. BLADE is a fairly new technique that has been reported to reduce motion artifacts and improve image quality.ObjectiveThe primary objective of this study is to compare the quality of T1-weighted fluid attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) images with BLADE technique (T1W FLAIR BLADE) and the quality of T1W SE images in the MR imaging of the brain. The goal is to highlight the advantages of the two sequences as well as which one can better reduce flow and motion artifacts so that the imaging of the lesions will not be impaired.Materials and methodsBrain examinations with T1W FLAIR BLADE and T1W SE sequences were performed on 48 patients using a 1.5 T scanner. These techniques were evaluated by two radiologists based on: a) a qualitative analysis i.e. overall image quality, presence of artifacts, CSF nulling; and b) a quantitative analysis of signal-to-noise ratios (SNR), contrast-to-noise ratios (CNR) and Relative Contrast. The statistical analysis was performed using the Kruskal-Wallis non-parametric system.ResultsIn the qualitative analysis, BLADE sequences had a higher scoring than the conventional sequences in all the cases. The overall image quality was better on T1W FLAIR BLADE. Motion and flow-related artifacts were lower in T1W FLAIR BLADE. Regarding the SNR measurements, T1W SE appeared to have higher values in the majority of cases, whilst T1W-FLAIR BLADE had higher values in the CNR and Relative Contrast measurements.ConclusionT1W FLAIR BLADE sequence appears to be superior to T1W SE in overall image quality and reduction of motion and flow-pulsation artifacts as well as in nulling CSF and has been preferred by the clinicians. T1W FLAIR BLADE may be an alternative approach in brain MRI imaging.  相似文献
