Imperfection sensitivity properties are derived for finite dimensional elastic conservative systems exhibiting hill-top branching at which arbitrary many bifurcation points coincide with a limit point. The critical load at a hill-top branching point is demonstrated to be insensitive to initial imperfections when all the bifurcation points are individually symmetric. Therefore, it is not dangerous to design a frame or truss so that many members buckle simultaneously at the limit point, although the notion of the danger of optimization by compound bifurcation is widespread.  相似文献

Imperfection sensitivity is investigated for a degenerate hilltop branching point, where a degenerate bifurcation point exists at a limit point. A degenerate hilltop branching point is important as it is a byproduct of optimization of shallow shell structures under non-linear buckling constraints. A systematic procedure is presented for asymptotic sensitivity analysis based on enumeration of vertices of a convex region defined by linear inequality constraints on the orders of the variables. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by sensitivity analysis of degenerate hilltop branching points, considering minor and major imperfections, corresponding to an unstable-symmetric or asymmetric bifurcation point at the limit point. It is found that a hilltop branching point can be imperfection sensitive.  相似文献

This paper presents a theoretical analysis for the long-term non-linear elastic in-plane behaviour and buckling of shallow concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) arches. It is known that an elastic shallow arch does not buckle under a load that is lower than the critical loads for its bifurcation or limit point buckling because its buckling equilibrium configuration cannot be achieved, and the arch is in a stable equilibrium state although its structural response may be quite non-linear under the load. However, for a CFST arch under a sustained load, the visco-elastic effects of creep and shrinkage of the concrete core produce significant long-term increases in the deformations and bending moments and subsequently lead to a time-dependent change of its equilibrium configuration. Accordingly, the bifurcation point and limit point of the time-dependent equilibrium path and the corresponding buckling loads of CFST arches also change with time. When the changing time-dependent bifurcation or limit point buckling load of a CFST arch becomes equal to the sustained load, the arch may buckle in a bifurcation mode or in a limit point mode in the time domain. A virtual work method is used in the paper to investigate bifurcation and limit point buckling of shallow circular CFST arches that are subjected to a sustained uniform radial load. The algebraically tractable age-adjusted effective modulus method is used to model the time-dependent behaviour of the concrete core, based on which solutions for the prebuckling structural life time corresponding to non-linear bifurcation and limit point buckling are derived.  相似文献

Imperfection sensitivity characteristics of the non-linear buckling load factors of non-optimal and optimal symmetric frames are investigated. The frames are subjected to symmetric proportional vertical loads. The optimization problem is formulated under constraints on linear buckling load factors. Although the buckling load factors corresponding to sway and non-sway modes coincide at the optimum design, the non-sway-type asymmetric bifurcation point disappears as a result of geometrically non-linear analysis. Therefore, the maximum allowable load factors of perfect and imperfect systems should be determined by assigning displacement constraints. It is shown that quantitative evaluation is possible for imperfection sensitivity and mode interaction based on the higher order differential coefficients of the total potential energy even for frames of which the critical points should be numerically obtained. Numerical examples are presented to show that the properties of the non-sway bifurcation point are similar to those of a symmetric bifurcation point, and the interaction between sway and non-sway modes does not always lead to enhancement of imperfection sensitivity.  相似文献

For structural systems with a coincident lowest eigenvalue λc, the influence of imperfections on the buckling of the systems depends to a very large extent upon the distribution of the imperfections. Moreover, the system may buckle either at a limit point or at a bifurcation point before this limit point is reached. Considering both possibilities, a lower bound to the buckling load of the system, for a given root mean square of the imperfections, is obtained. Furthermore, with reference to a set of particular, normalized co-ordinates, it was found that the absolute minimum buckling load is given by an imperfection vector parallel to the steepest of all post-buckling paths intersecting at λc. At this absolute minimum buckling load the critical point is a limit point. As an example, the lower bound to the buckling load of an imperfect cylindrical shell under axial compression was calculated.  相似文献

含脱层的复合材料层板承受弯曲载荷作用会产生跳跃失稳,还常常引起脱层扩展,从而导致结构失效。本文用基于一阶剪切层板理论的几何非线性有限单元法分析了受弯曲曲载荷作用下含脱层板的人稳的临界载荷。本文指出分叉失稳产生了跳跃失稳,而该跳跃失稳与浅圆拱或薄圆柱壳受向心压力作用下的跳跌 同,在整体平衡路径上没有一个极限点。本文对临界载计算结果比使用能量准则的结果要小,文中给出了原因。  相似文献

This paper is concerned with an analytical study of the non-linear elastic in-plane behaviour and buckling of pinned–fixed shallow circular arches that are subjected to a central concentrated radial load. Because the boundary conditions provided by the pinned support and fixed support of a pinned–fixed arch are quite different from those of a pinned–pinned or a fixed–fixed arch, the non-linear behaviour of a pinned–fixed arch is more complicated than that of its pinned–pinned or fixed–fixed counterpart. Analytical solutions for the non-linear equilibrium path for shallow pinned–fixed circular arches are derived. The non-linear equilibrium path for a pinned–fixed arch may have one or three unstable equilibrium paths and may include two or four limit points. This is different from pinned–pinned and fixed–fixed arches that have only two limit points. The number of limit points in the non-linear equilibrium path of a pinned–fixed arch depends on the slenderness and the included angle of the arch. The switches in terms of an arch geometry parameter, which is introduced in the paper, are derived for distinguishing between arches with two limit points and those with four limit points and for distinguishing between a pinned–fixed arch and a beam curved in-elevation. It is also shown that a pinned–fixed arch under a central concentrated load can buckle in a limit point mode, but cannot buckle in a bifurcation mode. This contrasts with the buckling behaviour of pinned–pinned or fixed–fixed arches under a central concentrated load, which may buckle both in a bifurcation mode and in a limit point mode. An analytical solution for the limit point buckling load of shallow pinned–fixed circular arches is also derived. Comparisons with finite element results show that the analytical solutions can accurately predict the non-linear buckling and postbuckling behaviour of shallow pinned–fixed arches. Although the solutions are derived for shallow pinned–fixed arches, comparisons with the finite element results demonstrate that they can also provide reasonable predictions for the buckling load of deep pinned–fixed arches under a central concentrated load.  相似文献

In this paper, the effect of a centrally applied external axial tensile load on the lateral-torsional buckling resistance of simply supported I-beams under uniform bending acting in the plane of maximum rigidity is studied. A linear and a nonlinear analysis are performed. Following the linear analysis, an expression for the critical moment of lateral-torsional buckling is presented in which the influence of the axial tensile force is included. There is an upper limit of this force over which the equilibrium in the deformed state is not possible. In the nonlinear analysis, the nature of the critical state is studied, considering the initial part of the post-buckling path. It is concluded that this critical state is associated with a stable symmetrical bifurcation point. Nevertheless, the post-buckling path is very shallow; therefore, the beam cannot exhibit practically post-buckling strength. The paper is supplemented by a representative example.  相似文献

Summary The postbuckling behavior of an elastic column with spring supports of equal stiffness of extensional type at both clamped ends is studied. Attention is focused on those of spring stiffnesses near the critical value at which, under axial load, the column becomes critical with respect to two buckling modes simultaneously. By using the Liapunov-Schmidt-Koiter approach, we show that there are precisely two secondary bifurcation points on each primary postbuckling state for the spring stiffness greater than the critical value. The bifurcation takes place at one of the two least buckling loads. The corresponding secondary postbuckling states connect all the secondary bifurcation points in a loop. For the spring stiffness less than the critical value, no secondary bifurcation occurs. Asymptotic expansions of the primary and secondary postbuckling states are constructed. The stability analysis indicates that the primary postbuckling state for the spring stiffness greater than the critical value is bifurcating from the first buckling load and becomes unstable from a stable state via the secondary bifurcation, i.e., secondary buckling occurs. This paper presents a thorough and comprehensive investigation of non-linear buckling and postbuckling analyses of pin-ended shallow circular arches subjected to a uniform radial load and which have equal elastic rotational end-restraints. The differential equations of equilibrium for non-linear buckling and postbuckling are established based on a virtual work approach. Exact solutions for the non-linear bifurcation, limit point and lowest buckling loads are obtained; in particular, exact solutions for the non-linear postbuckling equilibrium paths are derived. The criteria for switching between fundamental buckling and postbuckling modes are developed in terms of critical values of a geometric parameter for an arch, with exact solutions for these critical values of geometric parameter being obtained. Analytical solutions of non-linear buckling and postbuckling problems for arches with rotational end-restraints are of great interest, since they constitute one of the very few closed-form analyses of buckling and postbuckling behaviour of continuous structural systems. These exact solutions are a contribution to the non-linear structural mechanics of arches, as well as providing useful benchmark solutions for verifying non-linear numerical analyses.  相似文献

Non-linear dynamic buckling of a two-degree-of freedom (2-DOF) imperfect planar system with symmetric imperfections under a step load of infinite duration (autonomous system) is thoroughly discussed using energy and geometric considerations. This system under the same load applied statically exhibits (prior to limit point) an unstable symmetric bifurcation lying on the non-linear primary equilibrium path. With the aid of the total energy-balance equation of the system and the particular geometry (due to symmetric imperfections) of the plane curve corresponding to the zero level total potential energy “surface” exact dynamic buckling loads are obtained without solving the non-linear initial-value problem. The efficiency and the reliability of the technique proposed herein is demonstrated with the aid of various dynamic buckling analyses which are compared with numerical simulation using the Verner-Runge-Kutta scheme, the accuracy of which is checked via the energy-balance equation.  相似文献

The focus of this paper is on the investigation of the mathematical nature of buckling from the point of view of bifurcation theory. For the doubly curved orthotropic panels subjected to quasi-static uniform load and with hinged boundary conditions, the solution to the non-linear partial differential equation is partitioned into two parts and projected onto the complete space spanned by the eigenfunctions of the linear operator of the governing equation. Furthermore, the fundamental branch, from which a new solution will emanate, is approximated by the first single mode pair which is close to the real membrane state. Whereas the ensuing bifurcated branch is approximated by the other single mode pair, under the assumption that the coupling between modes can be neglected. The present analysis could give a deep insight into the mechanism of the instability of panel structures, and show that there exists a mode transition at the critical point and the snap-through, then results from saddle-node bifurcation on the bifurcated branch. As a conclusion, the buckling of the system studied can be stated as: a bifurcated branch emanates from the fundamental branch at a critical point, and a saddle-node bifurcation, behaving as jumping, then occurs on the ensuing bifurcated branch.  相似文献

The nonlinear boundary-value problem of the axisymmetric buckling of a simply supported conical shell (dome) under a radial compressive load applied to the supported edge is formulated for a system of six first-order ordinary differential equations for independent fields of finite displacements and rotations. Multivalued solutions are obtained using the shooting method with specified accuracy. For various values of the loading parameter, bifurcation of the solutions of the problem is studied and a parametric branching diagram is constructed. The buckling modes are obtained for three branches of the solution. Curves of the buckling modes corresponding to three isolated branches of the solution are given.  相似文献

The dynamic instability of discrete, elastic, multiple degree of freedom (d.o.f.) systems under a combination of static and step loads is studied. Conservative, autonomous and holonomic systems are considered, in which the associated static response is a bifurcation under one load parameter, and a limit point under the second parameter. A review of different criteria and algorithms obtained from them for the computation of dynamic buckling loads is first presented, followed by a procedure derived from previous investigations on one d.o.f. systems. The different procedures are applied to a two d.o.f. problem under axial and lateral load, with quadratic and cubic non-linearities. The response in time shows that the system oscillates about the static equilibrium position before dynamic buckling is reached, with the kinetic energy tending to zero as assumed in the static (energy) procedures of stability.  相似文献
