In the present paper, we present block Arnoldi-based methods for the computation of low rank approximate solutions of large discrete-time algebraic Riccati equations (DARE). The proposed methods are projection methods onto block or extended block Krylov subspaces. We give new upper bounds for the norm of the error obtained by applying these block Arnoldi-based processes. We also introduce the Newton method combined with the block Arnoldi algorithm and present some numerical experiments with comparisons between these methods.  相似文献

In the present work, we present a numerical method for the computation of approximate solutions for large continuous-time algebraic Riccati equations. The proposed method is a method of projection onto a matrix Krylov subspace. We use a matrix Arnoldi process to construct an orthonormal basis. We give some theoretical results and numerical experiments for large problems.  相似文献

The GMRES method by Saad and Schultz is one of the most populariterative methods for the solution of large sparse non-symmetriclinear systems of equations. The implementation proposed bySaad and Schultz uses the Arnoldi process and the modified Gram-Schmidt(MGS) method to compute orthonormal bases of certain Krylovsubspaces. The MGS method requires many vector-vector operations, which can be difficult to implement efficiently on vector andparallel computers due to the low granularity of these operations. We present a new implementation of the GMRES method in which, for each Krylov subspace used, we first determine a Newton basis, and then orthogonalize it by computing a QR factorization ofthe matrix whose columns are the vectors of the Newton basis. In this way we replace the vector-vector operations of the MGSmethod by the task of computing a QR factorization of a densematrix. This makes the implementa tion more flexible, and providesa possibility to adapt the computations to the computer at handin order to achieve better performance. In the present paper, we present numerical methods for the computation of approximate solutions to large continuous-time and discrete-time algebraic Riccati equations. The proposed methods are projection methods onto block Krylov subspaces. We use the block Arnoldi process to construct an orthonormal basis of the corresponding block Krylov subspace and then extract low rank approximate solutions. We consider the sequential version of the block Arnoldi algorithm by incorporating a deflation technique which allows us to delete linearly and almost linearly dependent vectors in the block Krylov subspace sequences. We give some theoretical results and present numerical experiments for large problems.  相似文献

We propose a numerical method for solving large‐scale differential symmetric Stein equations having low‐rank right constant term. Our approach is based on projection the given problem onto a Krylov subspace then solving the low dimensional matrix problem by using an integration method, and the original problem solution is built by using obtained low‐rank approximate solution. Using the extended block Arnoldi process and backward differentiation formula (BDF), we give statements of the approximate solution and corresponding residual. Some numerical results are given to show the efficiency of the proposed method.  相似文献

The global Arnoldi method can be used to compute exterior eigenpairs of a large non-Hermitian matrix A, but it does not work well for interior eigenvalue problems. Based on the global Arnoldi process that generates an F-orthonormal basis of a matrix Krylov subspace, we propose a global harmonic Arnoldi method for computing certain harmonic F-Ritz pairs that are used to approximate some interior eigenpairs. We propose computing the F-Rayleigh quotients of the large non-Hermitian matrix with respect to harmonic F-Ritz vectors and taking them as new approximate eigenvalues. They are better and more reliable than the harmonic F-Ritz values. The global harmonic Arnoldi method inherits convergence properties of the harmonic Arnoldi method applied to a larger matrix whose distinct eigenvalues are the same as those of the original given matrix. Some properties of the harmonic F-Ritz vectors are presented. As an application, assuming that A is diagonalizable, we show that the global harmonic Arnoldi method is able to solve multiple eigenvalue problems both in theory and in practice. To be practical, we develop an implicitly restarted global harmonic Arnoldi algorithm with certain harmonic F-shifts suggested. In particular, this algorithm can be adaptively used to solve multiple eigenvalue problems. Numerical experiments show that the algorithm is efficient for the eigenproblem and is reliable for quite ill-conditioned multiple eigenproblems.  相似文献

Implicit two-step peer methods are introduced for the solution of large stiff systems. Although these methods compute s-stage approximations in each time step one-by-one like diagonally-implicit Runge-Kutta methods the order of all stages is the same due to the two-step structure. The nonlinear stage equations are solved by an inexact Newton method using the Krylov solver FOM (Arnoldi??s method). The methods are zero-stable for arbitrary step size sequences. We construct different methods having order p=s in the multi-implicit case and order p=s?1 in the singly-implicit case with arbitrary step sizes and s??5. Numerical tests in Matlab for several semi-discretized partial differential equations show the efficiency of the methods compared to other Krylov codes.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the practical construction of exponential W-methods for the solution of large stiff nonlinear initial value problems, based on the restricted-denominator rational approach for the computation of the functions of matrices required. This approach is employed together with the Krylov subspace method based on the Arnoldi algorithm. Two integrators are constructed and tested on some classical stiff equations arising from the semidiscretization of parabolic problems.  相似文献

Tanabe (1988) proposed a variation of the classical Newton method for solving nonlinear systems of equations, the so-called Centered Newton method. His idea was based on a deviation of the Newton direction towards a variety called “Central Variety”. In this paper we prove that the Centered Newton method is locally convergent and we present a globally convergent method based on the centered direction used by Tanabe. We show the effectiveness of our proposal for solving nonlinear system of equations and compare with the Newton method with line search.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a convergence analysis of the inexact Newton method for solving Discrete-time algebraic Riccati equations (DAREs) for large and sparse systems. The inexact Newton method requires, at each iteration, the solution of a symmetric Stein matrix equation. These linear matrix equations are solved approximatively by the alternating directions implicit (ADI) or Smith?s methods. We give some new matrix identities that will allow us to derive new theoretical convergence results for the obtained inexact Newton sequences. We show that under some necessary conditions the approximate solutions satisfy some desired properties such as the d-stability. The theoretical results developed in this paper are an extension to the discrete case of the analysis performed by Feitzinger et al. (2009) [8] for the continuous-time algebraic Riccati equations. In the last section, we give some numerical experiments.  相似文献

Hermitian and skew-Hermitian splitting(HSS) method has been proved quite successfully in solving large sparse non-Hermitian positive definite systems of linear equations. Recently, by making use of HSS method as inner iteration, Newton-HSS method for solving the systems of nonlinear equations with non-Hermitian positive definite Jacobian matrices has been proposed by Bai and Guo. It has shown that the Newton-HSS method outperforms the Newton-USOR and the Newton-GMRES iteration methods. In this paper, a class of modified Newton-HSS methods for solving large systems of nonlinear equations is discussed. In our method, the modified Newton method with R-order of convergence three at least is used to solve the nonlinear equations, and the HSS method is applied to approximately solve the Newton equations. For this class of inexact Newton methods, local and semilocal convergence theorems are proved under suitable conditions. Moreover, a globally convergent modified Newton-HSS method is introduced and a basic global convergence theorem is proved. Numerical results are given to confirm the effectiveness of our method.  相似文献

The implementation of implicit Runge-Kutta methods requires the solution of large systems of non-linear equations. Normally these equations are solved by a modified Newton process, which can be very expensive for problems of high dimension. The recently proposed triangularly implicit iteration methods for ODE-IVP solvers [5] substitute the Runge-Kutta matrixA in the Newton process for a triangular matrixT that approximatesA, hereby making the method suitable for parallel implementation. The matrixT is constructed according to a simple procedure, such that the stiff error components in the numerical solution are strongly damped. In this paper we prove for a large class of Runge-Kutta methods that this procedure can be carried out and that the diagnoal entries ofT are positive. This means that the linear systems that are to be solved have a non-singular matrix. The research reported in this paper was supported by STW (Dutch Foundation for Technical Sciences).  相似文献

In this paper, we consider large‐scale nonsymmetric differential matrix Riccati equations with low‐rank right‐hand sides. These matrix equations appear in many applications such as control theory, transport theory, applied probability, and others. We show how to apply Krylov‐type methods such as the extended block Arnoldi algorithm to get low‐rank approximate solutions. The initial problem is projected onto small subspaces to get low dimensional nonsymmetric differential equations that are solved using the exponential approximation or via other integration schemes such as backward differentiation formula (BDF) or Rosenbrock method. We also show how these techniques can be easily used to solve some problems from the well‐known transport equation. Some numerical examples are given to illustrate the application of the proposed methods to large‐scale problems.  相似文献

Summary. Hybrid methods for the solution of systems of linear equations consist of a first phase where some information about the associated coefficient matrix is acquired, and a second phase in which a polynomial iteration designed with respect to this information is used. Most of the hybrid algorithms proposed recently for the solution of nonsymmetric systems rely on the direct use of eigenvalue estimates constructed by the Arnoldi process in Phase I. We will show the limitations of this approach and propose an alternative, also based on the Arnoldi process, which approximates the field of values of the coefficient matrix and of its inverse in the Krylov subspace. We also report on numerical experiments comparing the resulting new method with other hybrid algorithms. Received May 27, 1993 / Revised version received November 14, 1994  相似文献

Preconditioned modified Hermitian and skew-Hermitian splitting (PMHSS) method is an unconditionally convergent iteration method for solving large sparse complex symmetric systems of linear equation. Motivated by the PMHSS method, we develop a new method of solving a class of linear equations with block two-by-two complex coefficient matrix by introducing two coefficients, noted as DPMHSS. By making use of the DPMHH iteration as the inner solver to approximately solve the Newton equations, we establish modified Newton-DPMHSS (MN-DPMHSS) method for solving large systems of nonlinear equations. We analyze the local convergence properties under the Hölder continuous conditions, which is weaker than Lipschitz assumptions. Numerical results are given to confirm the effectiveness of our method.  相似文献

By making use of the normal and skew-Hermitian splitting (NSS) method as the inner solver for the modified Newton method, we establish a class of modified Newton-NSS method for solving large sparse systems of nonlinear equations with positive definite Jacobian matrices at the solution points. Under proper conditions, the local convergence theorem is proved. Furthermore, the successive-overrelaxation (SOR) technique has been proved quite successfully in accelerating the convergence rate of the NSS or the Hermitian and skew-Hermitian splitting (HSS) iteration method, so we employ the SOR method in the NSS iteration, and we get a new method, which is called modified Newton SNSS method. Numerical results are given to examine its feasibility and effectiveness.  相似文献
