If light is diffracted by ultrasound in an isotropic medium with acoustically induced birefringence, the state of polarization is modified in each order of diffraction with respect to the initial state of polarization of the incident light wave. In the present paper, some polarization effects are discussed in the case of normal light incidence. In general a rotation of the main polarization plane occurs, together with a change of the ellipticity. However, while the former effect always takes place, the latter only occurs in the case of ultrasonic light diffraction of the intermediate type. Some experimental measurements are included in case of argon laser light being diffracted by an ultrasonic wave propagating in fused silica (SiO2).  相似文献

Plane-wave expansions of the type introduced by Whittaker are compared with plane-wave expansions of the type introduced by Weyl for wave fields radiated by sources confined to finite space-time domains. By using the Fourier transform method, analytical expressions for the axial power spectrum and near-field intensity in the spacetime domain of chirped Gaussian pulses diffracted at an aperture are derived, which permit us to study changes in spectral and temporal profiles of the chirped Gaussian pulses both analytically and numerically. Detailed numerical results and physical analysis show that spectral anomalies take place in the neighbourhood of certain critical distances, and the shifting of maximum and splitting of temporal intensity profiles appear. In particular, for ultrashort chirped pulses, there exists also spectral switch. Besides the truncation parameter, the chirp parameter and pulse duration affect the behaviour of spectral switches.  相似文献

The problem of plane-wave diffraction by an angular sector is examined. It is assumed that the wave process is described by the Helmholtz equation and that the Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions are satisfied on the sector. 为了揭示刚性界面附近气泡空化参数与微射流的相互关系, 从两气泡控制方程出发, 利用镜像原理, 建立了考虑刚性壁面作用的空化泡动力学模型. 数值对比了刚性界面与自由界面下气泡的运动特性, 并分析了气泡初始半径、气泡到固壁面的距离、声压幅值和超声频率对气泡溃灭的影响. 在此基础上, 建立了气泡溃灭速度和微射流的相互关系. 结果表明: 刚性界面对气泡振动主要起到抑制作用; 气泡溃灭的剧烈程度随气泡初始半径和超声频率的增加而降低, 随着气泡到固壁面距离的增加而增加; 声压幅值存在最优值, 固壁面附近的气泡在该最优值下气泡溃灭最为剧烈; 通过研究气泡溃灭速度和微射流的关系发现, 调节气泡溃灭速度可以达到间接控制微射流的目的.  相似文献

The intensity of light diffracted by surface acoustic waves is described by its spectrum, which contains all the harmonics of the acoustic frequency. A formulation is given, mainly for the first harmonic angular dependence, taking into account most of the experimental parameters. Calculated results are compared with experimental data. Optimum conditions for detection are given for a wide range of frequencies.  相似文献

The direct and inverse problems of plane wave diffraction by a circular cylinder with a perforated coating are investigated. In the context of the direct problem, it is shown that a coated cylinder causes a more intense diffraction field than that produced by a smooth cylinder. In the context of the inverse problem, the parameters of the perforated coating are chosen so as to ensure a given level of suppression for the field diffracted by the cylinder.  相似文献

We present an approach to calculating the complex amplitude of a three-dimensional (3D) diffracted light field in the paraxial approximation based on a 3D Fourier transform. Starting from the Huygens-Fresnel principle, the method is first developed for the computation of the light distribution around the focus of an apertured spherical wave. The method, with modification, is then extended to treat the 3D diffraction of an aperture with an arbitrary transmittance function.  相似文献

For a fixed 2-f reference path, we demonstrate both theoretically and experimentally that based on the spatial correlation between two light fields, ghost imaging in spatial domain (GI) and Fourier-transform ghost interference (FRT) can be obtained by only increasing the transverse size of the thermal source D. Extensive experimental study is carried out to investigate spectral behavior of spatially polychromatic coherent light diffracted by an annular aperture. It is found that the spectrum at the observation plane exhibits anomalous behavior after passing through the annular aperture. Experimental observations show that at a particular diffraction angle, the diffracted spectrum splits into two halves, while at other diffraction angles the spectrum either shifts towards lower wavelengths (blue-shift) or shifts towards higher wavelengths (red-shift). These spectral changes take place in the vicinity of the dark ring of the Airy pattern. Moreover, the behavior of the spectrum in the Fraunhofer region around a small circular loop centered at a critical direction is also studied and it is found that these spectral changes are qualitatively different from the spectral changes of the spectrum of the focused waves on a circle centered at the singular point. It is discussed in detail that such spectral anomalies of spatially coherent light may be exploited for information encoding and information hiding for free-space communications. The possibility to entangle bits in the spectral anomalies is also proposed. Such technique might be very useful to improve the throughput of information transmission in free space.  相似文献

The analytical vectorial structure of a linearly polarized plane wave diffracted by an elliptical aperture is studied in detail based on the vector angular spectrum representation. It is found that the energy flux density spot sizes and the energy fluxes of the TE and TM term depend on the elliptical aperture configuration and the polarization direction of the incident plane wave. And the far fields can have smaller spots and larger energy fluxes for an elliptical aperture compared to a circular aperture with the same input wave amplitude. And its potential application in information encoding and transmission for free space communications is proposed apart from re-focusing to enhance the optical storage density. This encoding scheme has the benefit of easy implementation without modulating any properties of the light source.  相似文献
