Two novel types of photomagnetic hybrid ultrathin film (film A and B) of metal cyanides have been fabricated by means of the modified Langmuir–Blodgett method using a smectite clay mineral. Film A is composed of an amphiphilic azobenzene cation, a montmorillonite, and Prussian Blue in which photocontrol in the magnetization was realized by the photoisomerization of azobenzene chromophore. The observed photomagnetic efficiency was large (ca. 11%) due to the well-organized structure of the ultrathin film. Film B is composed of a quaternary ammonium salt, a montmorillonite, and Co–Fe Prussian Blue in which the photoinduced magnetization caused by the electron transfer exhibited an anisotropic response with regards to the direction of the applied magnetic field. This phenomenon is ascribed to the unique structure of Co–Fe Prussian Blue formed onto the clay layer. Contribution to special issue “Magnetic field effects in Electrochemistry”  相似文献

Two applications of previously described square grid network monolayers prepared at the air/water interface are explored. The monolayer networks are single layers of Prussian blue like mixed-metal cyanide networks that are formed via the interface-directed condensation of amphiphilic pentacyanometallate complex and subphase metal ions. In the first application, the monolayers are deposited onto solid supports and the magnetic properties of the networks are evaluated, as the transferred films evolve from a monolayer to a bilayer to multilayers. In the second application, the network monolayers are used to derivatize a surface, providing a seed layer for the subsequent deposition of solid-state metal cyanide molecule-based magnets. Improved surface wetting results in continuous, transparent magnetic films.  相似文献

Films of the photomagnetic Prussian blue analogue Rb0.7Co4(Fe(CN)6)3.0(Co–Fe PBA) were deposited onto a Melinex® substrate using two different multiple sequential adsorption methods. Film thickness, measured using atomic force microscopy, was controlled by the number of deposition cycles. The photoinduced magnetism known for the bulk Co–Fe PBA at low temperatures is also seen in the thin films, although the response is anisotropic. A photoinduced increase in magnetization is observed when the film is parallel (∥) to the applied magnetic field (HE), while a photoinduced decrease is observed when the film is perpendicular (⊥) to a weak HE. The relationship between the film thickness and the photoinduced decrease in magnetization is explored in this article. The photoinduced decrease is observed for films less than ∼200 nm thick. The behavior is explained by invoking a dipolar interaction between primordial ferrimagnetic domains and the photoswitchable pairs arrayed in the quasi-2D thin film.  相似文献

Polyamic acid (PAA) containing free-base porphyrin and zinc(II) porphyrin chromophores was synthesized by copolymerization of diphenylether-type tetracarboxylic dianhydride and diamines. The monolayer of the alkylamine salts of PAA (PAASs) at the air/water interface was deposited on solid substrates by the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique. The PAAS LB films thus obtained were converted to polyimide (PI) LB films by chemical treatment. The fluorescence of porphyrin moieties in the PI LB film was observed, because of the weak electron-accepting properties of the diphenylether unit. Therefore, the photophysically important processes, such as photoinduced electron transfer, excitation energy transfer, and excitation energy migration could be investigated in relation to the layered nanostructures of the ultrathin PI films. The fluorescence spectrum suggested that the aggregation of porphyrin moieties in the PI LB films was effectively prevented by the use of polymeric films. The surface plasmon (SP) measurement showed that the thickness of the monolayers was 0.9-1.0 nm for PAAS films and 0.32-0.40 nm on average for PI LB films. The absorption dichroism of the Soret band of porphyrin indicated that porphyrin moieties in the PAAS and PI LB films are oriented in parallel with the substrate. These results showed that the orientation and the spatial distribution of porphyrin units can be efficiently regulated in the PI LB films in a nanometer dimension.  相似文献

A hydrotalcite clay/dendrimer nanocomposite prepared by the ionic exchange process was adsorbed from suspension of the nanocomposite on a Langmuir monolayer of arachidic acid at the air/water interface, followed by compressing and transferring onto an arachidic acid monolayer Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) film on mica. For comparison, the hydrotalcite-adsorbed hybrid film was also prepared. The morphology of hydrotalcite and the nanocomposite studied by transmission electron microscopy indicated the layered structures with respectively 1.2 +/- 0.3 and 3.2 +/- 0.5 nm repeating distances. The hybrid Langmuir films displayed the occupied surface area of 0.24 nm2 for both hydrotalcite and the nanocomposite. The formation of hybrid Langmuir films was confirmed by Brewster angle microscopy. Atomic force microscopic images of hybrid LB films revealed the formation of plateau domains with the height difference of 6 nm for hydrotalcite and 12 nm for the nanocomposite and the presence of dendrimers adsorbed on the clay surface of the nanocomposite.  相似文献

We describe the preparation of Prussian Blue films with several thicknesses, and their characterization by means of cyclic voltammetry and polarized reflection FTIR spectroscopy. The electrochemical experiments demonstrated a direct relationship between the film thickness and its intrinsic conductivity. The vibrational spectra showed asymmetrical bands in the vicinity of the cyanide stretching band. The s-polarization bands showed a shift to higher frequencies, while the p-polarization bands showed a downshift with increasing film thickness. The presence of shifted cyanide stretching bands in the s- and p-polarizations is attributed to the columnar shape of Prussian Blue grains formed in the growth process.  相似文献

Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films from a ruthenium complex mer-[RuCl3 (dppb)(4-Mepy)] (dppb = PPh2 (CH2)4PPh2; 4-Mepy = 4-methylpyridine), termed Ru-Pic, display a distinct color, which is different from the coloration exhibited by cast films or chloroform solutions. The solution and cast films are red, while the LB films are green-bluish. The manifestation of the blue color in the LB film finds its explanation in a unique absorption band at 690 nm, which is associated with the oxidation of the phosphine moieties. Fluorescence emission and absorption-reflection infrared spectroscopy measurements revealed the molecular organization in the LB films. In contrast, cast films showed a random distribution of complexes. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering was also used in an attempt to identify the main interactions in Ru-Pic.  相似文献

We examined the photochemical properties of well-ordered multilayer films of titania nanosheets prepared on quartz-glass substrate using the layer-by-layer deposition method. The photocatalytic decomposition of gaseous 2-propanol and bleaching of Methylene Blue dye under UV light illumination were measured to evaluate the photocatalytic oxidation ability. Photoinduced hydrophilicity was also studied by measuring the contact angle of water droplets on the film. The results indicated that titania nanosheets had good photoinduced hydrophilicity. The monolayer film of titania nanosheets showed almost identical activity compared with well investigated sol-gel derived anatase TiO(2) film, while its photocatalytic oxidation activity was low by more than an order of magnitude. This fact suggests that photoinduced hydrophilicity could not be explained simply in terms of the photocatalytic removal of hydrophobic organic species adsorbed on the surface. The photocatalytic oxidation activity and the photoinduced hydrophilic conversion rate decreased with increasing number of nanosheet layers, suggesting that photogenerated carriers produced in the internal part of the multilayer films can hardly diffuse to the surface layer. Photochemical properties of ultrathin anatase films obtained simply by heating the titania nanosheet films were evaluated as well, and also revealed high photoinduced hydrophilicity.  相似文献

Glucose oxidase (GOx) was immobilized in the organic-inorganic Langmuir-Bldogett (LB) films consisting of octadecyltrimethylammonium (ODTA) and nanosized Prussian blue (PB) clusters. The amperometric glucose biosensors based on the LB films were fabricated and tested. It was found that the sensors exhibited a clear response current under an applied voltage of 0.0 V (vs Ag/AgCl). The linearity of current density versus glucose concentration was confirmed below 15 mmol/L concentration. This is the first observation of biosensor function of the hybrid organic-inorganic LB films. The successful preparation of glucose sensors operating at the very low potential indicates that the adsorbed PB clusters in the LB films act as an electrocatalyst for the electrochemical reduction of hydrogen peroxide, which is the final product of the enzymatic reaction sequence. The observed low potential applicability is estimated to inhibit the responses of interferants such as ascorbic acid, uric acid, and acetominophen. It was also found that an electrostatic interaction between positively charged ODTA+ and the adsorbed species of both GOx and PB provided a stabilized adsorption state in the LB films. Such stable immobilization contributes to the steady amperometric response current observed in the present ODTA/PB/GOx LB films.  相似文献

This paper reports the preparation and characterization of pure Langmuir and Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of a stilbene derivative containing two alkyl chains, namely 4-dioctadecylamino-4'-nitrostilbene. Mixed films incorporating docosanoic acid and the stilbene derivative are also studied. Brewster angle microscopy (BAM) analysis has revealed the existence of randomly oriented three-dimensional (3D) aggregates, spontaneously formed immediately after the spreading process of the stilbene derivative onto the water surface. These 3D aggregates coexist with a Langmuir film that shows the typical gas, liquid, and solid-like phases in the surface pressure and surface potential vs area per molecule isotherms, indicative of an average preferential orientation of the stilbene compound at the air-water interface, and a gradual molecular arrangement into a defined structure upon compression. A blue shift of 55 nm of the reflection spectrum of the Langmuir film with respect to the spectrum of a chloroform solution of the nitrostilbene indicates that two-dimensional (2D) H-aggregates are formed at the air-water interface. The monolayers are transferred undisturbed onto solid substrates with atomic force microscopy (AFM) revealing that the one layer LB films are constituted by a monolayer of the stilbene derivative together with some 3D aggregates. When the nitrostilbene compound is blended with docosanoic acid, the 3D aggregation is avoided in the Langmuir and Langmuir-Blodgett films, but does not limit the formation of 2D H-aggregates, desirable for second-order nonlinear optical response in the blue domain. The AFM images of the mixed LB films show that they are formed by a docosanoic acid monolayer and, on the top of it, a bilayer of the stilbene derivative.  相似文献

The spectroscopic properties and surface-enhanced spectra of Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of methacrylic homopolymer (HPDR13) are presented. It is shown that LB film displays strong fluorescence attributed to the spatial restrictions imposed by its structure. The emission is observed in conjunction with photoisomerization, a process clearly demonstrated by the formation of surface-relief gratings in the LB film [C.R. Mendon?a et al., Macromolecules 32 (1999) 1493]. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), Surface-enhanced resonance Raman scattering (SERRS) and surface-enhanced fluorescence (SEF) were observed for LB films of HPDR13 deposited onto silver island films. SERS measurements were also carried out on a sample fabricated with one monolayer LB film deposited onto silver islands followed by one overlayer of silver (LB sandwiched between two layers of silver islands). The polymer interacts very weakly with the metal surface (physisorption), and the enhancement effect is determined by the local electric field enhancement. The strong SERS and SERRS signals were suitable for micro-Raman imaging. Line, area mapping and global images of the LB monolayer on silver island are reported. The transfer ratio in the fabrication of the LB suggests a homogeneous coating of the silver islands, thereby the chemical images show the variation of the SERS intensity due to surface enhancement.  相似文献

The use of thin films of Prussian blue and heterogeneous Prussian blue membranes as potassium ion-selective electrodes was investigated. All of the heavier group I cations and NH+4 interfere strongly but there is relatively good selectivity towards Na+ with a selectivity coefficient of ca. 5 × 10?3. The thin-film measurements, based on Prussian blue deposited on platinum, involve conditioning the electrode to a fixed potential according to the method used by Engel and Grabner for copper hexacyanoferrate(III) films. The membrane electrodes were based on mixing Prussian blue with polymeric supporting films such as polystyrene and epoxy. A particularly simple practical configuration involves Prussian blue membranes deposited directly on copper conductors where one membrane serves as a reference electrode. A reversible cell, without liquid junction, is formed with Prussian blue and Ag/AgCl electrodes and this serves as a means for determining an accurate value for the standard reduction potential of Prussian blue, which is found to be 0.238 V vs. Ag/AgCl at 25 °C.  相似文献

Electron donor-acceptor dyad ensembles of a water-soluble cationic zinc porphyrin (viz., zinc tetrakis(N-methylpyridinium)porphyrin tetrachloride, Zn(TMPyP)) and a C60 derivative that bears an imidazole ligand (viz., 2-(phenylimidazolyl)fulleropyrrolidine, C60im) were assembled during the formation of Langmuir and then Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films. Surface pressure versus surface area isotherms and surface pressure time profiles, as well as Brewster angle microscopic images documented that the Langmuir films formed were remarkably stable. Subsequently, these Langmuir films were transferred onto different solid substrates, by using the LB technique, for spectroscopic and photoelectrochemical characterization. The UV-vis spectroscopic investigations confirmed that the water-soluble Zn(TMPyP) was, indeed, transferred together with C60im in the LB films. Upon visible light illumination of these LB films, deposited on the ITO transparent conductive supports, a photocurrent generated in the C60im-Zn(TMPyP) system is ascribed to an efficient photoinduced electron transfer from the electron donor, porphyrin singlet excited-state to the electron acceptor, C60. Overall, internal photon-to-current efficiency, IPCE, of the photoanodic current generation (with ascorbate as a sacrificial electron donor) in the ITO/C60im-Zn(TMPyP)/ascorbate/Pt construct is over 5x larger than that of the photocathodic system (with methyl viologen, MV2+, as a sacrificial electron acceptor) in the ITO/Zn(TMPyP)-C60im/MV2+/Pt construct. Highly ordered film stacking favors vectorial electron transfer within the dyad, giving rise to the highest IPCE values of 2.5% determined for a photoanode that was composed of around 20 monolayer films.  相似文献

Prussian blue has significant application for the construction of electrochemical biosensors. In this work, Prussian blue-reduced graphene oxide modified glass carbon electrodes were successfully fabricated using electrochemical deposition. The high surface area of graphene oxide enhanced the deposition of Prussian blue and the resulting electrocatalytic activity. Infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy showed that the relatively porous Prussian blue was on the surface of reduced graphene oxide. Cyclic voltammetry showed that Prussian blue-coated reduced graphene oxide composite films improved electron transfer compared to Prussian blue films. The Prussian blue-reduced graphene oxide composite film provided higher response for the reduction of hydrogen peroxide and the oxidation of dopamine compared with the Prussian blue film due to synergistic effects between the reduced graphene oxide and Prussian blue particles. The sensitivity of the electrode was 0.1617 µA µM?1 cm?2. The linear dynamic range extended from 0.5 µM to 0.7 mM dopamine with a limit of detection equal to 125 nM. This work provided a versatile strategy for the design and construction of sensitive amperometric sensors with robust electrocatalytic behavior.  相似文献

Photo-induced structural changes of azobenzene Langmuir-Blodgett films   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Structural changes of the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of azobenzene accompanied by photoisomerization are described. First, photoisomerization is explained in terms of 'free volume'. In the polyion complex monolayers of amphiphiles having two azobenzene units at the air-water interface, the area per molecule depends on the polycation species. The fraction of cis-azobenzene in the LB films at the photostationary state under the illumination with UV light increased with increasing area per molecule, which is consistent with the concept of free volume. Second, a counter example of the concept of free volume is presented. Three-dimensional cone-shaped structures developed with trans-to-cis photoisomerization in the polyion complex LB film of a water-soluble amphiphilic azobenzene. These structures appeared and disappeared reversibly by alternate illumination with UV and visible light. The results indicate that the two-dimensional LB film structure exerts significant modification by photoisomerization. This is against the concept of free volume because this concept does not consider the possibility that the two-dimensional LB film structures may change into three-dimensional ones. Finally, photo-induced J-aggregate formation of non-photochromic and photochromic dyes is described. Two cyanine dyes were each mixed with an amphiphilic azobenzene in the LB films. These cyanine dyes are known to form J-aggregates in single-component LB films. In the mixed LB films, the J-aggregate formation was suppressed to some extent. The alternate illumination of the films with UV and visible light caused the photoisomerization of azobenzene in the mixed LB films, which triggered the J-aggregate formation of the cyanine dyes. The J-aggregate formation was accompanied by the development of three-dimensional cone-shaped structures from the film surface. When an amphiphilic merocyanine was mixed with the azobenzene in the LB films, J-aggregate formation was also induced by the alternate illumination with UV and visible light. This J-aggregate formation was also accompanied by a large morphological change: circular domains changed into fractal-like ones. The J-aggregate formation of the dyes and the concomitant morphological change were irreversible. In these cases, the photoisomerization of azobenzene served as a trigger to induce self-organization of the dye molecules.  相似文献

We investigated the influence of arachidic acid/cadmium dication (AA/Cd(2+)) as a transfer promoter for the deposition of dicyanopyrazine-linked porphyrin (2-DCPP) Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films on both hydrophobic and hydrophilic substrates. In the case of LB deposition on a hydrophilic substrate, the presence of AA/Cd(2+) does not improve 2-DCPP LB deposition. The poor transfer in the case of the hydrophilic surface is believed to be due to 2-DCPP not wetting the surface during the down-stroke deposition, and this is not improved by the transfer agent. However, on a hydrophobic substrate, deposition of 2-DCPP is significantly improved by the presence of AA/Cd(2+). Comparison of the UV-visible spectrum of a 2-DCPP LB film with that of 2-DCCP dissolved in chloroform reveals that the Soret and Q bands for the 2-DCPP LB film are broadened and red-shifted due to aggregation of porphyrin rings in the LB film. UV-visible spectral changes and ellipsometry as a function of the number of deposition layers suggest continuous transfer of 2-DCPP/AA onto the hydrophobic substrate and reproducibility in the deposition process. The Soret and Q bands of the 2-DCPP LB film upon acid vapor exposure have also been investigated, and these measurements may have chemical sensor applications.  相似文献

Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of the water-soluble dye phenosafranine (PS) have been prepared by its adsorption from aqueous dye solution to an arachidic acid (AA) monolayer at the air-water interface. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) images of the LB films revealed the effect of change in pH of deposition on the degree of complexation of AA with the PS dye. Well-defined circular islands and holes were observed which disappeared with the increase in pH. Polarized absorption studies indicated that the dye molecules are oriented uniaxially with their long axis titled at a constant angle to the surface normal of the LB film. Within the restricted geometry of the LB film, the PS dye was electropolymerized to form a two-dimensional film of poly(phenosafranine) sandwiched between arachidic acid layers. The film was characterized by IR spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and AFM. X-ray diffraction studies reveal the presence of a layer structure in the AA-PS LB film before and after polymerization. The polymer film showed highly anisotropic electrical conductivity of ca. 10 orders of magnitude. This indicates the formation of two-dimensional polyPS layers between arachidic acid layers resulting in a layered heterostructure film having alternate conducting and insulating regions. Also, the conductivity of the polyPS prepared from LB film was found to be approximately 2.5 times higher than the conductivity of polyPS prepared by solution polymerization method.  相似文献

We report a versatile method to confine metal thin films in micro- and nanopatterns using directed self-assembly on the templates fabricated from phase-separated mixed Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films. The pattern of the mixed LB films can be tuned by adjusting intermolecular interaction between the film-forming molecules in the LB films and by varying the fabrication conditions of the films such as the mixing ratio, subphase temperature, and surface pressure. We use the patterned LB films for templates to confine metal in patterned regions, taking advantage of the difference between the surface free energy of the patterned regions and that of the self-assembled monolayer of the silane coupling agent. Au nanoparticles are confined onto the patterned films as a catalyst for the succeeding Cu electroless deposition. The atomic force microscopic images, Auger electron spectra, and scanning Auger electron maps of a Cu-deposited film show that Cu is selectively deposited on the patterns of phase separation of the original mixed LB films.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The Langmuir monolayer is a special class of lyotropic liquid crystalline system wherein phase transition essentially depends on surface density, temperature and ion-content in the aqueous medium. The variety of surface phases can be transferred onto devices by the Langmuir–Blodgett (LB) technique. The Langmuir monolayer of pristine single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) exhibited gas and liquid-like phases. The LB film of SWCNTs shows target surface pressure dependent interesting morphologies. The methane gas sensing using parallel alignment of SWCNTs was found to be better than that of randomly oriented SWCNTs. The SWCNTs can be functionalised chemically to enhance the ease of film processability and affinity towards analytes. These are essential parameters for the development of a sensor. In this article, we present our work on Langmuir monolayer and LB films of octadecylamine functionalised SWCNTs (ODACNTs) and its sensing application towards bio-analytes, e.g. L-aspartic acid and bovine serum albumin. The sensing performance of LB film of ODACNTs was compared with that of spin-coated films of ODACNTs. The sensing performance of LB films of ODACNTs indicated a potential platform for bio-sensing application.  相似文献
