The Ti(BFA)2Cl2/MgCl2–Al(C2H5)3 catalyst (BFA = 4,4,4-trifluoro-1-phenyl-1,3-butanedione) modified by DIPDMS (diisopropyldimethoxysilane), which had been proved to yield an extremely high isotactic polypropene in high selectivity, was tested for the copolymerization of ethene with propene. The analysis of resulting copolymers by CFC (cross fractionation chromatography) indicated the formation of a small quantity of ethene-rich copolymers as a byproduct, suggesting that the catalyst possesses not only Ti(III) species but a small portion of Ti(II) species. Whereas, the same catalyst without being modified by an external donor selectively yielded propene-rich random copolymers resulting from Ti(III) species in high yields. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The spontaneous copolymerization of N-phenylmaleimide (NPMI) (M1) with ethyl α-phenylacrylate (EPA)(M2) were carried out in dioxane at 85°C. A high alternating tendency was observed. The monomer reactivity ratios were r1 = 0.07 ±0.01 and r2 = 0.09 ± 0.02. The maximum copolymerization rate and molecular weight occurs at 70–80 mol% (M1) in feed ratio. The spontaneous alternating copolymerization is considered to be carried out via a contact-type charge transfer complex (CTC) formed between the monomers. Thermogravimetric analyses (TGA) indicate the resulting copolymers have high thermal stability. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 36: 2927–2931, 1998  相似文献

The graft copolymerization of undecylenic acid onto acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene terpolymer (ABS) was initiated with benzoyl peroxide (BPO) in a 1,2‐dichloroethane solution. IR spectra confirmed that undecylenic acid was successfully grafted onto the ABS backbone. The influence of the concentrations of undecylenic acid, BPO, and ABS on the graft copolymerization was studied. A reaction mechanism was proposed: the grafting most likely took place through the addition of poly(undecylenic acid) radicals to the double bond of the butadiene region of ABS. A monomer cage effect on the graft reaction was observed to depend on the 1.5 power of the monomer concentration from the experimental results of the initial rate of graft copolymerization. The initial rate of graft copolymerization was written as Rp = 1.77 × 10−3[P][I2][M]2.5/([P]+2.75[M]2.5)2. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 39: 486–494, 2001  相似文献

Thermally pretreated catalysts were prepared by heating MgCl2/THF/TiCl4 (TT-0) at 80°C for 5 min (TT-1) and 60 min (TT-2), and at 108°C for 5 min (TT-3) and 60 min (TT-4). Ethylene–1-hexene copolymers were prepared with these catalysts. The TT-1 catalyst produced more blocky and higher 1-hexene content polymer than TT-0, 2, 3, and 4. Temperature rising elution fractionation (TREF) analysis was used to investigate the chemical composition distribution of the ethylene–1-hexene copolymer, exhibiting bimodal distribution for TT-0 and trimodal for TT-1, 2, 3, and 4. A portion of higher hexene content of the copolymer markedly increased when the copolymerization was performed with TT-1, indicating that copolymerization active sites were newly generated. Portion of homopolyethylene increased drastically when the copolymerization was performed with TT-4, indicating that ethylene homopolymerization active sites were increased. Gel permeation chromatography (GPC) also revealed that three kinds of active sites existed on the catalyst. 13C-NMR spectrum of each fraction after TREF analysis suggested that the isospecific active site could polymerize 1-hexene well, resulting in random and alternating copolymers. A scheme for generation of the active site and change of its nature during thermal treatment of bimetallic complex catalyst is proposed. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Vinyl‐type copolymerization of norbornene (NBE) and 5‐NBE‐2‐yl‐acetate (NBE‐OCOMe) in toluene were investigated using a novel homogeneous catalyst system based on bis(β‐ketonaphthylamino)Ni(II)/B(C6F5)3/AlEt3. The copolymerization behavior as well as the copolymerization conditions, such as the levels of B(C6F5)3 and AlEt3, temperature, and monomer feed ratios, which influence on the copolymerization were examined. Without combination of AlEt3, the catalytic bis(β‐ketonaphthylamino)Ni(II)/B(C6F5)3 exhibited very high catalyst activity for polymerization of NBE. Combination of AlEt3 in catalyst system resulted in low conversion for polymerization of NBE. For copolymerization of NBE and NBE‐OCOMe, involvement of AlEt3 in catalyst is necessary. Slight addition of NBE‐OCOMe in copolymerization of NBE and NBE‐OCOMe gives rise to significant increase of catalyst activity for catalytic system bis(β‐ketonaphthylamino)Ni(II)/B(C6F5)3/AlEt3. Nevertheless, excess increase of the NBE‐OCOMe content in the comonomer feed ratios results in decrease of conversion as well as activity of catalyst. The achieved copolymers were confirmed to be vinyl‐addition copolymers through the analysis of FTIR, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR spectra. 13C NMR studies further revealed the composition of the copolymer and the incorporation rate was 7.6–54.1 mol % ester units at a content of 30–90 mol % of the NBE‐OCOMe in the monomer feeds ratios. TGA analysis results showed that the copolymer exhibited good thermal stability (Td > 410 °C) and failed to observe the glass transitions temperature over 300 °C. The copolymers are confirmed to be noncrystalline by WAXD analysis results and show good solubility in common organic solvents. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The polymerization of o-(1,3-dioxolan-2-yl)phenyl ethyl fumarate (DOPEF) initiated with dimethyl 2,2′-azobisiso-butyrate (MAIB) was studied kinetically in benzene. The polymerization rate (Rp) at 60°C was given by Rp = k [MAIB]0.76 [DOPEF]0.71. The overall activation energy of polymerization was calculated to be 98.3 kJ/mol. The number-average molecular weight of resulting poly(DOPEF) was in the range of 1000–3100. 1H- and 13C-NMR spectra of resulting polymers revealed that the radical polymerization of DOPEF proceeds in a complicated manner involving vinyl addition, intramolecular hydrogen abstraction, and further ring opening of the cyclic acetal at higher temperatures. From the copolymerization of DOPEF (M1) and styrene (St) (M2) at 60°C, the monomer reactivity ratios were obtained to be r1 = 0.02 and r2 = 0.20, the values of which are similar to those of the copolymerization of ethyl o-formylphenyl fumarate and St. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Half titanocenes (CpCH2CH2O)TiCl2 (1), (CpCH2CH2OCH3)TiCl3 (2), and CpTiCl3 (3), activated by methylaluminoxane (MAO) were tested in copolymerization of ethylene with internal olefins such as cyclopentene. All the catalysts were able to give incorporation of cyclopentene in polyethylene matrix. 13C NMR analysis of obtained copolymers showed that the catalytic systems have low regiospecificity. In fact, in ethylene–cyclopentene copolymers, cyclic olefin inserts with both 1,2 and 1,3‐enchainment. X‐ray powder diffraction analysis of these copolymers confirmed that 1,2 inserted cyclopentene units are excluded from crystalline phase, whereas 1,3‐cyclopentene units are included, giving rise to expansion of unit cell of crystalline polyethylene. Titanium‐based catalysts were investigated also in the copolymerization of ethylene with E and Z‐2‐butene. Only complex (1) was able to give copolymers and 13C NMR analysis of products showed 2‐3, 1‐3, and 1‐2 insertion of 2‐butene. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis displayed that ethylene–cyclopentene, as well as ethylene‐2‐butene, copolymers are crystalline and their melting point decreases by increasing the comonomer content. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ethylene–propylene copolymerization, using [(Ph)NC(R2)CHC(R1)O]2TiCl2 (R1 = CF3, Ph, or t‐Bu; R2 = CH3 or CF3) titanium complexes activated with modified methylaluminoxane as a cocatalyst, was investigated. High‐molecular‐weight ethylene–propylene copolymers with relatively narrow molecular weight distributions and a broad range of chemical compositions were obtained. Substituents R1 and R2 influenced the copolymerization behavior, including the copolymerization activity, methylene sequence distribution, molecular weight, and polydispersity. With small steric hindrance at R1 and R2, one complex (R1 = CF3; R2 = CH3) displayed high catalytic activity and produced copolymers with high propylene incorporation but low molecular weight. The microstructures of the copolymers were analyzed with 13C NMR to determine the methylene sequence distribution and number‐average sequence lengths of uninterrupted methylene carbons. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Homo‐ and copolymerization of ethylene and norbornene were investigated with bis(β‐diketiminato) titanium complexes [ArNC(CR3)CHC(CR3)NAr]2TiCl2 (R = F, Ar = 2,6‐diisopropylphenyl 2a; R = F, Ar = 2,6‐dimethylphenyl 2b ; R = H, Ar = 2,6‐diisopropylphenyl 2c ; R = H, Ar = 2,6‐dimethylphenyl 2d) in the presence of methylaluminoxane (MAO). The influence of steric and electric effects of complexes on catalytic activity was evaluated. With MAO as cocatalyst, complexes 2a–d are moderately active catalysts for ethylene polymerization producing high‐molecular weight polyethylenes bearing linear structures, but low active catalysts for norbornene polymerization. Moreover, 2a – d are also active ethylene–norbornene (E–N) copolymerization catalysts. The incorporation of norbornene in the E–N copolymer could be controlled by varying the charged norbornene. 13C NMR analyses showed the microstructures of the E–N copolymers were predominantly alternated and isolated norbornene units in copolymer, dyad, and triad sequences of norbornene were detected in the E–N copolymers with high incorporated content of norbornene. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Photopolymerization of the vinyl monomer (M) of methyl methacrylate (MMA) was kinetically studied by using near-UV/visible light at 40°C and employing a morpholine (MOR)–sulfur dioxide (SO2) charge-transfer (C-T) complex as the photoinitiator. The rate of polymerization (RP) was found to be dependent on the morpholine: sulfur dioxide mole ratio; the 1 : 2 (MOR–SO2) complex acted as the latent initiator complex C which underwent further complexation with the monomer molecules to give the actual initiating complex I. Using the 1 : 2 (MOR–SO2) C-T complex as the latent initiator, the observed kinetics may be expressed as RP [MOR–SO2]0.27[M]1.10. Benzoquinone behaved as a strong inhibitor. Polymers obtained tested positive for the incorporation of a sulphonate-type end group. Polymerization followed a radical mechanism. Kinetic nonideality as revealed by a low initiator exponent and monomer exponent of greater than unity was explained on the basis of a prominent primary radical termination effect. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A density functional theory (B3LYP) computational study of the ethylene–styrene copolymerization process using meso‐Et(H4Ind)2Zr(CH3)2 as the catalyst is presented. The monomer insertion barriers in meso species are evaluated and compared with previously obtained barriers in rac diastereoisomers. Differences related to ethylene homopolymerization and ethylene–styrene copolymerization activities as well as styrene incorporation into the copolymer are found between the meso and rac diastereoisomers. Nevertheless, a migratory insertion mechanism seems to hold for both diastereoisomeric species. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 44: 4752–4761, 2006  相似文献

Half titanocenes (CpCH2CH2O)TiCl2 1 and (CpCH2CH2 OCH3)TiCl3 2 , activated by methylaluminoxane are tested in styrene–1,3‐butadiene copolymerization. The titanocene 1 is able to copolymerize styrene and 1,3‐butadiene, with a facile procedure, to give products with high molecular weight. The analysis of microstructure by 13C‐NMR reveals that the styrene homosequences in copolymers are in syndiotactic arrangement, while the butadiene homosequences are, prevailingly, in 1,4‐cis configuration, according with behavior of 1 in the homopolymerizations of styrene and 1,3‐butadiene, respectively. The reactivity ratios of copolymerization are estimated by diad composition analysis. All obtained copolymers have r1 × r2 values much larger than 1, indicating blocky nature of homosequences. The structural characterization by wide‐angle X‐ray powder diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry indicates that all copolymers are crystalline, with Tm varying from 171 to 239 °C, depending on the styrene content. The titanocene 2 did not succeed in styrene–1,3‐butadiene copolymerization, giving rise to a blend of homopolymers. Compounds 1 and 2 were also tested in the polymerization of several conjugated dienes, and the obtained results were very useful to rationalize the behavior of both catalysts in the copolymerization of styrene and butadiene. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This work deals with design of maleimide monomer toward more precise control of alternating sequence for radical copolymerization with styrene. Crucial in this study is sequence analysis by MALDI‐TOF‐MS for resultant copolymers that was obtained via ruthenium‐catalyzed living radical copolymerization with a malonate‐based alkyl halide initiator showing selective initiation ability. The copolymers of a simple N‐alkyl maleimide [e.g., N‐ethyl maleimide (EMI)] with styrene gave complicated peak patterns for the MALDI‐TOF‐MS spectra indicating low degree of alternating sequence, in contrary to expectation from the reactivity ratios (almost zero). A simple substitution of methyl group (CH3) of EMI with trifluoromethyl (CF3: CF3‐MI) made the peak patterns much simpler giving the copolymer with higher alternating sequence. More interestingly, the peak interval of the copolymer at earlier polymerization stage was equal to sum of the molecular weights of CF3‐MI and styrene, suggesting possibility of the pair propagation of the monomers. Indeed, 1H NMR analyses of the mixture of maleimide with styrene suggested stronger interaction of CF3‐MI than EMI. Based on the results, maleimide derivatives carrying a substituent‐designable electron‐withdrawing group [ROC(?O)N–: R = substituent] were newly designed toward incorporation of functional side chains. They also gave higher alternating sequence for the copolymerization with styrene. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2019 , 57, 367–375  相似文献

Homo- and copolymerizations of butadiene (BD) and styrene (St) with rare-earth metal catalysts, including the most active neodymium (Nd)-based catalysts, have been examined, and the cis-1,4 polymerization mechanism was investigated by the diad analysis of copolymers. Polymerization activity of BD was markedly affected not only by the ligands of the catalysts but also by the central rare-earth metals, whereas that of St was mainly affected by the ligands. In the series of Nd-based catalysts [Nd(OCOR)3:R = CF3, CCl3, CHCl2, CH2Cl, CH3], Nd(OCOCCl3)3 gave a maximum polymerization activity of BD, which decreased with increasing or decreasing the pKa value of the ligands. This tendency was different from that for Gd(OCOR)3 catalysts, where the CF3 derivative led to the highest polymerization activity of BD. For the polymerization of St and its copolymerization with BD, the maximum activities were attained at R = CCl3 for both Nd- and Gd-based catalysts. The copolymerization of BD and St with Nd(OCOCCl3)3 catalyst was also carried out at various monomer feed ratios, to evaluate the monomer reactivity ratios as rBD = 5.66 and rSt = 0.86. The cis-1,4 content in BD unit decreased with increasing St content in copolymers. From the diad analysis of copolymers, it was indicated that Nd(OCOCCl3)3 catalyst controls the cis-1,4 structure of the BD unit by a back-biting coordination of the penultimate BD unit. Furthermore, the long range coordination of polymer chain by the neodymium catalyst was suggested to assist the cis-1,4 polymerization. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. This investigation reports the atom transfer radical copolymerization (ATRcP) of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) and 2‐ethylhexyl acrylate (EHA). Poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (PGMA) has easily transformable pendant oxirane group and poly(2‐ethylhexyl acrylate) (PEHA) has very low Tg. They are the important components of coating and adhesive materials. Copolymerization of GMA and EHA was carried out in bulk and in toluene at 70 °C at different molar feed ratios using CuCl as catalyst in combination with 2,2′‐bypyridine (bpy) as well as N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyl diethylenetriamine (PMDETA) as ligand. The molecular weight (Mn) and the polydispersity index (PDI) of the polymers were determined by GPC analysis. The molar composition of the copolymers was determined by 1H NMR analysis. The reactivity ratios of GMA (r1) and EHA (r2) were determined using Finemann‐Ross and Kelen‐Tudos linearization methods and those had been compared with the literature values for conventional free radical copolymerization. The thermal properties of the copolymers were studied by DSC and TGA analysis. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 6526–6533, 2009  相似文献

A new series of conjugated polyacetylenes with conjugately linked fullerene and porphyrin groups as pendant units were prepared by a copolymerization reaction catalyzed by chloronorbornadiene rhodium(I)dimer‐triethylamine ([Rh(nbd)Cl]2‐NEt3) in anhydrous CHCl3. These polymers were characterized with UV–vis spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, and voltammetry. Scanning electron microscopy indicated that the morphology of the copolymers consisted of uniform nanorods with a diameter of about 100 nm and a length of about 300 nm. Thin films of the copolymers produced steady and prompt photocurrent at an irradiation of 20.0 mW cm?2 of white light, which was higher than that of a mixture of poly[5‐(4‐Ethynyl‐phenyl)‐10,15,20‐tris(4‐carbomethoxyphenyl)porphyrin zinc] and C60. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of novel nonmetallocene catalysts with phenoxy‐imine ligands was synthesized by the treatment of phthaldialdehyde, substituted phenol with TiCl4, ZrCl4, and YCl3 in THF. The structures and properties of the catalysts were characterized by 1H NMR and elemental analysis. These catalysts were used for copolymerization of ethylene with acrylonitrile after activated by methylaluminoxane (MAO). The effects of copolymerization temperature, Al/M (M = Ti, Zr, and Y) ratio in mole, concentrations of catalyst and comonomer on the polymerization behaviors were investigated in detail. These results revealed that these catalysts were favorable for copolymerization of ethylene with acrylonitrile. Cat. 3 was the most favorable one for the copolymerization of ethylene with acrylonitrile, and the catalytic activity was up to 2.19 × 104 g PE/mol.Ti.h under the conditions: polymerization temperature of 50 °C, Al/Ti molar ratio of 300, catalyst concentration of 1.0 × 10–4 mol/L, and toluene as solvent. The resultant polymer was characterized by FTIR, cross‐polarization magic angle spinning, 13C NMR, WAXD, GPC, and DSC. The results confirmed that the obtained copolymer featured high‐weight–average molecular weight, narrow molecular weight distribution about 1.61–1.95, and high‐acrylonitrile incorporation up to 2.29 mol %. Melting temperature of the copolymer depended on the content of acrylonitrile incorporation within the copolymer chain. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献

Using excessively loaded propylene oxide (PO) as a solvent, the copolymerization of carbon dioxide (CO2) and PO was carried out with zinc glutarate catalyst, consequently producing poly(propylene carbonate) of high molecular weight in a high yield (64–70 g polymer per gram of catalyst) never achieved before. Both the PO used as solvent and the excessively loaded CO2 were fully recoverable, respectively, and reusable for their copolymerization, indicating that this is a clean, green polymerization process to convert CO2 to its polycarbonate. The polymer yield was further improved by scaling up the copolymerization process. Among zinc glutarate catalysts prepared through several synthetic routes, one from zinc oxide delivered the highest yield in the copolymerization. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. 3‐Ethyl‐3‐methacryloyloxymethyloxetane (EMO) was easily polymerized by dimethyl 2,2′‐azobisisobutyrate (MAIB) as the radical initiator through the opening of the vinyl group. The initial polymerization rate (Rp) at 50 °C in benzene was given by Rp = k[MAIB]0.55 [EMO]1.2. The overall activation energy of the polymerization was estimated to be 87 kJ/mol. The number‐average molecular weight (M?n) of the resulting poly(EMO)s was in the range of 1–3.3 × 105. The polymerization system was found to involve electron spin resonance (ESR) observable propagating poly(EMO) radicals under practical polymerization conditions. ESR‐determined rate constants of propagation (kp) and termination (kt) at 60 °C are 120 and 2.41 × 105 L/mol s, respectively—much lower than those of the usual methacrylate esters such as methyl methacrylate and glycidyl methacrylate. The radical copolymerization of EMO (M1) with styrene (M2) at 60 °C gave the following copolymerization parameters: r1 = 0.53, r2 = 0.43, Q1 = 0.87, and e1 = +0.42. EMO was also observed to be polymerized by BF3OEt2 as the cationic initiator through the opening of the oxetane ring. The M?n of the resulting polymer was in the range of 650–3100. The cationic polymerization of radically formed poly(EMO) provided a crosslinked polymer showing distinguishably different thermal behaviors from those of the radical and cationic poly(EMO)s. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The copolymerization of a highly fluorinated cyclic monomer, octafluorocyclopentene (OFCPE, M1), with ethyl vinyl ether (EVE, M2) was investigated with a radical initiator in bulk. Despite the poor homopolymerizability of each monomer, the copolymerization proceeded successfully, and the molecular weights of the copolymers reached up to more than 10,000. Incorporation of the OFCPE units into the copolymer led to an increase in the glass‐transition point. The copolymer composition was determined from 1H NMR spectra and elemental analysis data. The molar fraction of the OFCPE unit in the copolymer increased and approached but did not exceed 0.5. The monomer reactivity ratios were estimated by the Yamada–Itahashi–Otsu nonlinear least‐squares procedure as r1,OFCPE = ?0.008 ± 0.010 and r2,EVE = 0.192 ± 0.015. The reactivity ratios clearly suggest that the copolymerization proceeds alternatively in the case of an excessive feed of OFCPE. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
