New Y‐shaped (AB2‐type) amphiphilic copolymers of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) with poly(trimethylene carbonate) (PTMC), PEG‐b‐(PTMC)2, were successfully synthesized by the ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of TMC with bishydroxy‐modified monomethoxy‐PEG (mPEG). First, a bishydroxy functional ROP initiator was synthesized by esterification of acryloyl bromide with mPEG, followed by Michael addition using excess diethanolamine. A series of Y‐shaped amphiphilic PEG‐(PTMC)2 block copolymers were obtained via ROP of TMC using this PEG with bishydroxyl end groups as macroinitiator and ZnEt2 as catalyst. The amphiphilic block copolymers with different compositions were characterized by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and 1H NMR, and their molecular weight was measured by GPC. The results showed that the molecular weight of Y‐shaped copolymers increased with the increase of the molar ratio of TMC to mPEG‐(OH)2 initiator in feed while the PEG chain length was kept constant. The Y‐shaped copolymer mPEG‐(PTMC)2 could self‐assemble into micelles in aqueous medium and the critical micelle concentration values of the micelles decrease with increase in hydrophobic PTMC block length of mPEG‐(PTMC)2. The in vitro cytotoxicity and controlled drug release properties of the Y‐shaped amphiphilic block copolymers were also investigated. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. AB‐type block copolymers with poly(trimethylene carbonate) [poly(TMC); A] and poly(ethylene oxide) [PEO; B; number‐average molecular weight (Mn) = 5000] blocks [poly(TMC)‐b‐PEO] were synthesized via the ring‐opening polymerization of trimethylene carbonate (TMC) in the presence of monohydroxy PEO with stannous octoate as a catalyst. Mn of the resulting copolymers increased with increasing TMC content in the feed at a constant molar ratio of the monomer to the catalyst (monomer/catalyst = 125). The thermal properties of the AB diblock copolymers were investigated with differential scanning calorimetry. The melting temperature of the PEO blocks was lower than that of the homopolymer, and the crystallinity of the PEO block decreased as the length of the poly(TMC) blocks increased. The glass‐transition temperature of the poly(TMC) blocks was dependent on the diblock copolymer composition upon first heating. The static contact angle decreased sharply with increasing PEO content in the diblock copolymers. Compared with poly(TMC), poly(TMC)‐b‐PEO had a higher Young's modulus and lower elongation at break. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 43: 4819–4827, 2005  相似文献

Poly(1,4-dioxan-2-one-co-trimethylene carbonate), P(DON-co-TMC), copolymers with different compositions were synthesized by copolymerizations of 1,4-dioxan-2-one (DON) and trimethylene carbonate (TMC) at 120°C in the presence of Sn(Oct)2. Their structures and compositions were determined with FT-IR and 1H-NMR spectroscopies. The intrinsic viscosities of copolymers increased with the increase of the TMC fraction in feed. The DSC results of copolymers showed that the glass transition temperatures (Tgs) of copolymers are lower than those of homopolymers. Most copolymers are amorphous except for one with a high DON composition. The hydrophilicity of the copolymers is in proportion with the DON molar fraction in the copolymers. It was found that the Levonorgestrel (LNG) release rate is dependent of the composition and flexibility of polymer chains. The fastest one is the copolymer with nearly a equivalent fraction of DON to TMC. Among copolymers with other compositions, a higher DON fraction would be favorable to the release of LNG. All measurements demonstrate an almost constant release rate in the period of 1 month. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 36: 1301–1307, 1998  相似文献

Novel biodegradable amphiphilic graft copolymers containing hydrophobic poly(ester‐carbonate) backbone and hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) side chains were synthesized by a combination of ring‐opening polymerization and “click” chemistry. First, the ring‐opening copolymerization of 5,5‐dibromomethyl trimethylene carbonate (DBTC) and ε‐caprolactone (CL) was performed in the presence of stannous octanoate [Sn(Oct)2] as catalyst, resulting in poly(DBTC‐co‐CL) with pendant bromo groups. Then the pendant bromo groups were completely converted into azide form, which permitted “click” reaction with alkyne‐terminated PEG by Huisgen 1,3‐dipolar cycloadditions to give amphiphilic biodegradable graft copolymers. The graft copolymers were characterized by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), Fourier transform infrared spectra and gel permeation chromatography measurements, which confirmed the well‐defined graft architecture. These copolymers could self‐assemble into micelles in aqueous solution. The size and morphologies of the copolymer micelles were measured by transmission electron microscopy and dynamic light scattering, which are influenced by the length of PEG and grafting density. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Block copolymers with poly[3-methylmorpholine-2,5-dione] (PMMD) and poly[ethylene glycol] (PEG) blocks, PMMD-b-PEG-b-PMMD, were synthesized via ring-opening polymerization of 3-methylmorpholine-2,5-dione with amino-terminated PEG as the initiator at 140 °C within 10 h. Three kind of amino terminated PEG with different average molecular weight were used. The block copolymer was amorphous and the glass transition temperature decreased with increase of PEG block in the copolymer.  相似文献

Biodegradable, amphiphilic, diblock poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly(ethylene glycol) (PCL‐b‐PEG), triblock poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly(ethylene glycol)‐block‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL‐b‐PEG‐b‐PCL), and star shaped copolymers were synthesized by ring opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone in the presence of poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether or poly(ethylene glycol) or star poly(ethylene glycol) and potassium hexamethyldisilazide as a catalyst. Polymerizations were carried out in toluene at room temperature to yield monomodal polymers of controlled molecular weight. The chemical structure of the copolymers was investigated by 1H and 13C NMR. The formation of block copolymers was confirmed by 13C NMR and DSC investigations. The effects of copolymer composition and molecular structure on the physical properties were investigated by GPC and DSC. For the same PCL chain length, the materials obtained in the case of linear copolymers are viscous whereas in the case of star copolymer solid materials are obtained with low Tg and Tm temperatures. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(trimethylene carbonate) (PTMC) is a well‐known biodegradable polymer with good biocompatible properties which make it suitable for biomedical applications. Poly(5‐[2‐{2‐(2‐methoxyethoxy)ethyoxy}‐ethoxymethyl]‐5‐methyl‐1,3‐dioxa‐2‐one) (PTMC‐MOE3OM) and copolymers, bearing oligo ethylene glycol (OEG) at the side chain of PTMC backbone, were selected to investigate the cloud point behavior by solvents such as PBS, water, 10% ethanol solution and various ionic strengths. A pH‐responsive copolymer, poly(TMCM‐MOE3OM‐co‐(5‐methyl‐5‐carboxylic‐1,3‐dioxane‐2‐one)) as carboxylic acid carbonate showed a decreased critical temperature at pH 2. Photo‐responsive copolymer, poly(TMCM‐MOE3OM‐co‐coumarin derivatives) bearing 1% and 10% of photo‐induced molecules (7‐[(5‐(5‐methyl‐1,3‐dioxa‐2‐one)methoxy)]‐methoxy coumarin (TMCM‐coumarin)) exhibited a low cloud point because of the hydrophobic moieties. Meanwhile, alternative coumarin polymer including 2% of 4‐methyl‐7‐[(5‐(5‐methyl‐1,3‐dioxa‐2‐one)methoxy)butoxy)]‐methoxy coumarin (TMCM‐4‐methyl‐coumarin) has been successfully synthesized and copolymerized as a novel molecule. The various combinations of monomers were studied and the significant properties were determined via external triggers after copolymerization. This study showed basically synthetic progress toward designs and trivial rationalization of thermoresponsive copolymers close to body temperature. At present, various pendant groups as side part affect to the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) and biodegradable polymer in order to utilize the actual external stimuli application. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, we describe the synthesis of PEG‐b‐polyester star block copolymers via ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ester monomers initiated at the hydroxyl end group of the core poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) using HCl Et2O as a monomer activator. The ROP of ε‐caprolactone (CL), trimethylene carbonate (TMC), or 1,4‐dioxan‐2‐one (DO) was performed to synthesize PEG‐b‐polyester star block copolymers with one, two, four, and eight arms. The PEG‐b‐polyester star block copolymers were obtained in quantitative yield, had molecular weights close to the theoretical values calculated from the molar ratio of ester monomers to PEG, and exhibited monomodal GPC curves. The crystallinity of the PEG‐b‐polyester star block copolymers was determined by differential scanning calorimetry and X‐ray diffraction. Copolymers with a higher arm number had a higher tendency toward crystallization. The crystallinity of the PEG‐b‐polyester star block copolymers also depended on the nature of the polyester block. The CMCs of the PEG‐b‐PCL star block copolymers, determined from fluorescence measurements, increased with increasing arm number. The CMCs of the four‐arm star block copolymers with different polyester segments increased in the order 4a‐PEG‐b‐PCL < 4a‐PEG‐b‐PDO < 4a‐PEG‐b‐PLGA < 4a‐PEG‐b‐PTMC, suggesting a relationship between CMC and star block copolymer crystallinity. The partition equilibrium constant, Kv, which is an indicator of the hydrophobicity of the micelles of the PEG‐polyester star block copolymers in aqueous media, increased with decreasing arm number and increasing crystallinity. A key aspect of the present work is that we successfully prepared PEG‐b‐polyester star block copolymers by a metal‐free method. Thus, unlike copolymers synthesized by ROP using a metal as the monomer activator, our copolymers do not contain traces of metals and hence are more suitable for biomedical applications. Moreover, we confirmed that the PEG‐b‐polyester star block copolymers form micelles and hence may be potential hydrophobic drug delivery vehicles. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Core‐shell structured nanoparticles of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)/polypeptide/poly(D ,L ‐lactide) (PLA) copolymers were prepared and their properties were investigated. The copolymers had a poly(L ‐serine) or poly(L ‐phenylalanine) block as a linker between a hydrophilic PEG and a hydrophobic PLA unit. They formed core‐shell structured nanoparticles, where the polypeptide block resided at the interface between a hydrophilic PEG shell and a hydrophobic PLA core. In the synthesis, poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(L ‐serine) (PEG‐PSER) was prepared by ring opening polymerization of N‐carboxyanhydride of O‐(tert‐butyl)‐L ‐serine and subsequent removal of tert‐butyl groups. Poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(L ‐phenylalanine) (PEG‐PPA) was obtained by ring opening polymerization of N‐carboxyanhydride of L ‐phenylalanine. Methoxy‐poly(ethylene glycol)‐amine with a MW of 5000 was used as an initiator for both polymerizations. The polymerization of D ,L ‐lactide by initiation with PEG‐PSER and PEG‐PPA produced a comb‐like copolymer, poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐[poly(L ‐serine)‐g‐poly(D ,L ‐lactide)] (PEG‐PSER‐PLA) and a linear copolymer, poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(L ‐phenylalanine)‐b‐poly(D ,L ‐lactide) (PEG‐PPA‐PLA), respectively. The nanoparticles obtained from PEG‐PPA‐PLA showed a negative zeta potential value of ?16.6 mV, while those of PEG‐PSER‐PLA exhibited a positive value of about 19.3 mV. In pH 7.0 phosphate buffer solution at 36 °C, the nanoparticles of PEG/polypeptide/PLA copolymers showed much better stability than those of a linear PEG‐PLA copolymer having a comparable molecular weight. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Triblock copolymers of poly(styrenesulfonate)‐b‐poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(styrenesulfonate) with narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn = 1.28–1.40) and well‐defined structure have been synthesized in aqueous solution at 70 °C via reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization. Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) capped with 4‐cyanopentanoic acid dithiobenzoate end groups was used as the macro chain transfer agent (PEG macro‐CTA) for sole monomer sodium 4‐styrenesulfonate. The reaction was controllable and displayed living polymerization characteristics and the triblock copolymer had designed molecular weight. The reaction rate depended strongly on the CTA and initiator concentration ratio [CTA]0/[ACPA]0: an increase in [CTA]0/[ACPA]0 from 1.0 to 5.0 slowed down the polymerization rate and improved the molecular weight distribution with a prolonged induction time. The polymerization proceeded, following first‐order kinetics when [CTA]0/[ACPA]0 = 2.5 and 5.0. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 45: 3698–3706, 2007  相似文献

Diblock and multiblock copolymers composed of a poly(D,L-lactide) (PLA) or poly(trimethylene carbonate) (PTMC) core with a hydrophilic chain of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) were prepared. These copolymers, in which the core is connected to PEG through a polyfunctional molecule such as citric, mucic, or tartaric acid, may be used to form nanoparticles for drug delivery applications. Branched copolymers were prepared by direct amidation between the polyfunctional acid and methoxy PEGamine, followed by ring-opening polymerization of lactide or trimethyl carbonate to form the PLA and PTMC block copolymers. In addition, a complex multiblock copolymer of biotin-PEG-poly[lactic-co-(glycolic acid)] (PLGA) for application in an avidin-biotin system was prepared for possible design of nanospheres with targeting properties. Studies of drug release from polymeric systems containing multiblock copolymers and studies of polymer degradation were also performed.  相似文献

The melt crystallization behaviors and crystalline structures of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), poly(trimethylene terephthalate), and poly(ethylene‐co‐trimethylene terephthalate) (PETT) were investigated with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarized optical microscopy (POM), and X‐ray diffraction at various crystallization temperatures (Tcs). The PETT copolymers were synthesized via the polycondensation of terephthalate with ethylene glycol and trimethylene glycol (TG) in various compositions. The copolymers with 69.0 mol % or more TG or 31.0 mol % or less TG were crystallizable, but the other copolymers containing 34–56 mol % TG were amorphous. The DSC isothermal results revealed that the addition of a small amount of flexible TG (up to 21 mol %) to the PET structure slightly reduced the formation of three‐dimensional spherulites. A greater TG concentration (91–100%) in the copolyesters changed the crystal growth from two‐dimensional to three‐dimensional. The DSC heating scans after the completion of isothermal crystallization at various Tcs showed three melting endotherms for PET, PETT‐88, PETT‐84, and PETT‐79 and four melting endotherms for PETT‐9 and PETT. The presence of an additional melting endotherm could be attributed to the melting of thinner and imperfect copolyester crystallites. Analyses of the Lauritzen–Hoffman equation demonstrated that PETT‐88 had the highest values of the product of the lateral and folding surface free energies, and this suggested that the addition of small amounts of flexible trimethylene terephthalate segments to PET disturbed chain regularity, thus increasing molecular chain mobility. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Amphiphilic polycarbonate–poly(hydroxyalkanoate) diblock copolymers, namely, poly(trimethylene carbonate) (PTMC)‐b‐poly(β‐malic acid) (PMLA), are reported for the first time. The synthetic strategy relies on commercially available catalysts and initiator. The controlled ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of trimethylene carbonate (TMC) catalyzed by the organic guanidine base 1,5,7‐triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec‐5‐ene (TBD), associated with iPrOH as an initiator, provided iPrO?PTMC?OH, which served as a macroinitiator in the controlled ROP of benzyl β‐malolactonate (MLABe) catalyzed by the neodymium triflate salt (Nd(OTf)3). The resulting hydrophobic iPrO?PTMC‐b‐PMLABe?OH copolymers were then hydrogenolyzed into the parent iPrO?PTMC‐b‐PMLA?OH copolymers. A range of well‐defined copolymers, featuring different sizes of segments (Mn,NMR up to 9300 g mol?1; ÐM=1.28–1.40), were thus isolated in gram quantities, as evidenced by NMR spectroscopy, size exclusion chromatography, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, and contact angle analyses. Subsequently, PTMC‐b‐PMLA copolymers with different hydrophilic weight fractions (11–75 %) self‐assembled in phosphate‐buffered saline upon nanoprecipitation into well‐defined nano‐objects with Dh=61–176 nm, a polydispersity index <0.25, and a negative surface charge, as characterized by dynamic light scattering and zeta‐potential analyses. In addition, these nanoparticles demonstrated no significant effect on cell viability at low concentrations, and a very low cytotoxicity at high concentrations only for PTMC‐b‐PMLA copolymers exhibiting hydrophilic fractions over 47 %, thus illustrating the potential of these copolymers as promising nanoparticles.  相似文献

The ring opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone (CL) was initiated by glycol and yttrium tri(2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenolate)s (Y(OAr)3), preparing dihydroxy-capped poly (ε-caprolactone) (PCL) with controllable molecular weight. 1H NMR and SEC analyses indicate that two kinds of active species and corresponding PCL with different structures exist in the system. Increasing the ratio of glycol to Y(OAr)3 benefits the formation of monofunctional active species. However, poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)/Y(OAr)3 system only contains sole bifunctional active species to synthesize copolymer of CL with PEG (poly(CL-b-PEG-b-CL)). Dihydroxycapped PCL as macroinitiator can further initiate the polymerization of 2,2-dimethyltrimethylene carbonate (DTC). Thus, triblock copolymer of CL with DTC (poly(DTC-b-CL-b-DTC)) has been prepared.  相似文献

Amphiphilic triblock copolymers, poly(ethyl cyanoacrylate)‐b‐poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(ethyl cyanoacrylate) (PECA‐b‐PEG‐b‐PECA), were synthesized via oxyanion‐initiated polymerization with sodium alcoholate‐terminated PEG as macroinitiator. PECA‐b‐PEG‐b‐PECA were characterized by gel permeation chromatography system, 1H NMR and FTIR. The results indicate that the copolymerization is well controlled with narrow molecular weight distribution. The dexamethasone (DXM)‐loaded PECA‐b‐PEG‐b‐PECA nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared by nanoprecipitation technique and then characterized by Laser Particle Size Analyzer, 1H NMR and transmission electron microscopy. The drug‐loaded PECA‐b‐PEG‐b‐PECA NPs are of spherical shape with average size of less than 100 nm. The drug‐loaded amount (DLA) and encapsulation efficiency of DLNPs were investigated by HPLC. The results show that DXM can be effectively incorporated into PECA‐b‐PEG‐b‐PECA NPs, which provides an optional delivery system for DXM and other hydrophobic drugs. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An amphiphilic block copolymer, poly(ethylene glycol)‐block‐poly(L ‐lactide‐co‐2‐methyl‐2‐benzoxycarbonyl‐propylene carbonate) [PEG‐b‐P(LA‐co‐MBC)], was synthesized in bulk by the ring‐opening polymerization of L ‐lactide with 2‐methyl‐2‐benzoxycarbonyl‐propylene carbonate (MBC) in the presence of poly(ethylene glycol) as a macroinitiator with diethyl zinc as a catalyst. The subsequent catalytic hydrogenation of PEG‐b‐P(LA‐co‐MBC) with palladium hydroxide on activated charcoal (20%) as a catalyst was carried out to obtain the corresponding linear copolymer poly(ethyleneglycol)‐block‐poly(L ‐lactide‐co‐2‐methyl‐2‐carboxyl‐propylenecarbonate) [PEG‐b‐P(LA‐co‐MCC)] with pendant carboxyl groups. DSC analysis indicated that the glass‐transition temperature (Tg) of PEG‐b‐P(LA‐co‐MBC) decreased with increasing MBC content in the copolymer, and Tg of PEG‐b‐P(LA‐co‐MCC) was higher than that of the corresponding PEG‐b‐P(LA‐co‐MBC). The in vitro degradation rate of PEG‐b‐P(LA‐co‐MCC) in the presence of proteinase K was faster than that of PEG‐b‐P(LA‐co‐MBC), and the cytotoxicity of PEG‐b‐P(LA‐co‐MCC) to chondrocytes from human fetal arthrosis was lower than that of poly(L ‐lactide). © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) is often used to biocompatibilize surfaces of implantable biomedical devices. Here, block copolymers consisting of PEG and l ‐cysteine‐containing poly(amino acid)s (PAA's) were synthesized as polymeric multianchor systems for the covalent attachment to gold surfaces or surfaces decorated with gold nanoparticles. Amino‐terminated PEG was used as macroinitiator in the ring‐opening polymerization, (ROP), of respective amino acid N‐carboxyanhydrides (NCA's) of l ‐cysteine (l ‐Cys), l ‐glutamate (l ‐Glu), and l ‐lysine (l ‐Lys). The resulting block copolymers formed either diblock copolymers, PEG‐b‐p(l ‐Gluxcol ‐Cysy) or triblock copolymers, PEG‐b‐p(l ‐Glu)xb‐p(l ‐Cys)y. The monomer feed ratio matches the actual copolymer composition, which, together with high yields and a low polydispersity, indicates that the NCA ROP follows a living mechanism. The l ‐Cys repeat units act as anchors to the gold surface or the gold nanoparticles and the l ‐Glu repeat units act as spacers for the reactive l ‐Cys units. Surface analysis by atomic force microscopy revealed that all block copolymers formed homogenous and pin‐hole free surface coatings and the phase separation of mutually immiscible PEG and PAA blocks was observed. A different concept for the biocompatibilization of surfaces was followed when thiol‐terminated p(l ‐Lys) homopolymer was first grafted to the surface and then covalently decorated with HOOC‐CH2‐PEG‐b‐p(Bz‐l ‐Glu) polymeric micelles. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis, micelle formation, and bulk properties of semifluorinated amphiphilic poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(pentafluorostyrene)‐g‐cubic polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (PEG‐b‐PPFS‐g‐POSS) hybrid copolymers is reported. The synthesis of amphiphilic PEG‐b‐PPFS block copolymers are achieved using atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) at 100 °C in trifluorotoluene using modified poly(ethylene glycol) as a macroinitiator. Subsequently, a proportion of the reactive para‐F functionality on the pentafluorostyrene units was replaced with aminopropylisobutyl POSS through aromatic nucleophilic substitution reactions. The products were fully characterized by 1H‐NMR and GPC. The products, PEG‐b‐PPFS and PEG‐b‐PPFS‐g‐POSS, were subsequently self‐assembled in aqueous solutions to form micellar structures. The critical micelle concentrations (cmc) were estimated using two different techniques: fluorescence spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The cmc was found to decrease concomitantly with the number of POSS particles grafted per copolymer chain. The hydrodynamic particle sizes (Rh) of the micelles, calculated from DLS data, increase as the number of POSS molecules grafted per copolymer chain increases. For example, Rh increased from ~60 nm for PEG‐b‐PPFS to ~80 nm for PEG‐b‐PPFS‐g‐POSS25 (25 is the average number of POSS particles grafted copolymer chain). Static light scattering (SLS) data confirm that the formation of larger micelles by higher POSS containing copolymers results from higher aggregation numbers (Nagg), caused by increased hydrophobicity. The Rg/Rh values, where Rg is the radius of gyration calculated from SLS data, are consistent with a spherical particle model having a core‐shell structure. Thermal characterization by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) reveals that the grafted POSS acts as a plasticizer; the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the PPFS block in the copolymer decreases significantly with increasing POSS content. Finally, the rhombohedral crystal structure of POSS in PEG‐b‐PPFS‐g‐POSS was verified by wide angle X‐ray diffraction measurements. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel AB2‐type amphiphilic block copolymers of poly(ethylene glycol) and poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide), PEG‐b‐(PNIPAM)2, were successfully synthesized through single‐electron transfer living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP). A difunctional macroinitiator was prepared by esterification of 2,2‐dichloroacetyl chloride with poly(ethylene glycol) monomethyl ether (PEG). The copolymers were obtained via the SET‐LRP of N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) with CuCl/tris(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl)amine (Me6TREN) as catalytic system and DMF/H2O (v/v = 3:1) mixture as solvent. The resulting copolymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography and 1H NMR. These block copolymers show controllable molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distributions (PDI < 1.15). Their phase transition temperatures and the corresponding enthalpy changes in aqueous solution were measured by differential scanning calorimetry. As a result, the phase transition temperature of PEG44b‐(PNIPAM55)2 is similar to that in the case of PEG44b‐PNIPAM110; however, the corresponding enthalpy change is much lower, indicating the significant influence of the macromolecular architecture on the phase transition. This is the first study into the effect of macromolecular architecture on the phase transition using AB2‐type amphiphilic block copolymer composed of PEG and PNIPAM. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. To persuade the stent coating materials for the better sustainable development, a block copolymer composed of hydrophobicity of poly(trimethylene carbonate) (PTMC) and hydrophilicity of PTMC bearing ethylene glycol chains was synthesized as a potential candidate. The result of thermal stability of the polymer was analyzed which reached up to 206 °C (T10) and it is considered that sufficient for sterilization during the treatment. Moreover, the dip coated films of polymer were coated on polyethylene (PE) and stainless steel (SS) substrates in order to stimulate the stability upon the physiological environment. In addition, the preliminary in vitro test of the films were evaluated by protein adsorption and blood platelet adhesion tests. Hence, this study tends to convince that the synthetic block copolymer based on PTMC derivatives were approached for stent coating materials.  相似文献
