A clear effect of Lewis acids, such. as scandium trifluoromethanesulfonate [Sc(OTf)3], on stereocontrol during the radical polymerization of a designed monomer, benzyl α-(methoxymethyl)acrylate was found. This Lewis acid also influenced the stereochemistry in the radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate giving a less syndiotactic and more isotactic polymer, although many Lewis acids were not effective. A catalytic amount of Lewis acids, such as Y(OTf)3 and Yb(OTf)3, also significantly enhanced isotactic-specificity during the radical polymerization of acrylamide and its derivatives, N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) and N,N-dimethylacrylamide. Obvious solvent and temperature effects on tacticity were observed in these polymerizations, and poly(NIPAM) with >80% triad isotactic content has been obtained in the presence of Lewis acids.  相似文献

This work is directed to the stereospecific living radical polymerization of acrylamides such as N,N‐dimethylacrylamide and N‐isopropylacrylamide with an iron complex and a Lewis acid. DMAM was polymerized with [FeCp(CO)2]2 in conjunction with an alkyl iodide [(CH3)2C(CO2Et)I] as an initiator in the presence of Y(OTf)3 in toluene/methanol (1/1) at 60 °C to be converted almost quantitatively to the polymers with controlled molecular weights and high isotacticity (m > 80%), wherein the Fe‐complex generates radical species from a covalent C? I bond of the dormant species and the Lewis acid controls the stereochemistry of the polymerization via coordination with the amide groups of the polymer terminal and the monomer. A series of Lewis acids were also used for the iron(I)‐catalyzed DMAM polymerization, and Yb(OTf)3 and Yb(NTf2)3 proved effective in giving isotactic polymers without deteriorating the molecular weight control similar to Y(OTf)3. Furthermore, a slight enhancement of isospecificity was observed for the iron‐catalyzed system in comparison with the α,α‐Azobisisobutyronitrile‐initiated, when coupled with Y(OTf)3. Stereoblock polymerization of DMAM via a one‐pot reaction was also achieved by just adding the Y(OTf)3 methanol solution in the course of the polymerization to give atactic‐b‐isotactic poly(DMAM). A similar but slightly lower control in the molecular weight and tacticity was achieved in the polymerization of NIPAM with [FeCp(CO)2]2/Y(OTf)3. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(acrylamide) (PAM) with controlled molecular weight and tacticity was prepared by UV-irradiation-initiated controlled/living radical polymerization in the presence of dibenzyl trithiocarbonate (DBTTC) and Y(OTf)3. The rapid and facile photo-initiated controlled/living polymerization at ambient temperature led to controlled molecular weight and narrow polydispersity (Mw/Mn = 1.12-1.24) of PAM. The coordination of Y(OTf)3 with the last two amide groups in the growing chain radical effectively enhanced isotacticity of PAM. The isotactic sequence of dyads (m), triads (mm) and pentads (mmmm) in PAM were 70.32%, 50.95%, and 29.97%, respectively, which were determined by the resonance of methine (CH) groups in PAM under 13C NMR experiment. Factors affecting stereocontrol during the polymerization were studied, including the type of Lewis acids, concentration of Y(OTf)3, and monomer conversion. It is intriguing that the meso tacticity increased gradually with chain propagation and quite higher isotacticity (m = 93.01%, mm = 86.57%) was obtained in the later polymerization stage (conversion 65-85%).  相似文献

Radical polymerization of lactic acid‐based chiral and achiral methylene dioxolanones, a model for conformationally s‐cis locked acrylate, was carried out with AIBN to demonstrate an isospecific free radical polymerization controlled by chirality and conformation of monomer. Polymerization of the dioxolanones proceeded smoothly without ring opening to give a polymer with moderate molecular weight and 100% of maximum isotacticity. ESR spectrum indicated a twisted conformation of the growing poly(methylene dioxolanone) radical in contrast to an acyclic analogous radical, suggesting a restriction of the free rotation around main chain Cα? Cβ bond of the growing radical center. Chirality as well as the polarity and bulkiness of monomer affected the polymer tacticity, and chiral alkyl substituent would afford a high isotactic polymer, in which higher the enantiomeric excess of the monomer was, higher the isotacticity of the polymer was. While, achiral or polar substituents including dibenzyl and trichloromethyl groups would afford an atactic polymer. In addition, glass transition temperature (Tg) of the resulting polymers was significantly high, ranging from 172.2 to 229.8 °C, and even for an isotactic polymer Tg was as high as 206.8 °C. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The stereoregularity of poly(methyl acrylate) and poly(methyl acrylate-αd) was determined from the NMR spectra. A method of quantitative determination of stereoregularity of poly(methyl acrylate) proposed in this paper is based on the fact that in the 100 Mc./sec. NMR spectrum the absorption peaks due to methylene protons in syndiotactic configurations overlap absorptions due to only one of two methylene protons in isotactic configurations. The stereostructure of poly(methy1 acrylates) polymerized with anionic catalysts such as Grignard reagents, n-butyllithium, and LiAlH4 is generally richer in isotactic diads than in syndiotactic diads. For example, poly(methyl acrylate) polymerized with phenylmagnesium bromide as catalyst at ?20°C. consists of 99% isotactic and 1% syndiotactic diads. In radical polymerization, the isotacticity of poly(methyl acrylate) is independent of polymerization temperature. Poly(methyl acrylates) polymerized with a Ziegler-Natta catalyst consisting of Al(C2H5)2Cl and VCl4 have configurations similar to those polymerized by radical initiators. The stereoregularity of poly(methyl acrylate-α-d) resembled that of poly(methyl acrylate) polymerized under the same conditions.  相似文献

The free‐radical polymerizations of methyl methacrylate (MMA), ethyl methacrylate, isopropyl methacrylate, and 2‐methoxyethyl methacrylate were carried out in the presence of various Lewis acids. The MMA polymerization in the presence of scandium trifluoromethanesulfonate [Sc(OTf)3] in toluene or CHCl3 produced a polymer with a higher isotacticity and heterotacticity than that produced in the absence of Sc(OTf)3. Similar effects were observed during the polymerization of the other monomers. ScCl3, Yb(OTf)3, Er(OTf)3, HfCl4, HfBr4, and In(OTf)3 also increased the isotacticity and heterotacticity of the polymers. The effects of the Lewis acids were greater in a solvent with a lower polarity and were negligible in tetrahydrofuran and N,N‐dimethylformamide. Sc(OTf)3 was also found to accelerate the polymerization of MMA. On the basis of an NMR analysis of a mixture of Sc(OTf)3, MMA, and poly(methyl methacrylate), the monomer–Sc(OTf)3 interaction seems to be involved in the stereochemical mechanism of the polymerization. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Stereospecific and asymmetric (helix-sense-selective) polymerization of 1-phenyldibenzosuberyl methacrylate (PDBSMA) was performed with radical and anionic initiators. A highly isotactic polymer having triad isotacticity greater than 97% was obtained by radical polymerization with (i-PrOCOO)2 at 40°C. The radical polymerization of PDBSMA in (+)- and (-)-menthol gave (-)-and (+)-polymers, respectively, whose optical activity is ascribed to the prevailing one-handed helical conformation of a polymer chain. The radical copolymerization of PDBSMA with a small amount of an optically active monomer, (+)-phenyl-2-pyridyl-o-tolylmethyl methacrylate, afforded an optically active copolymer with the prevailing one-handed helical structure of PDBSMA sequences. Asymmetric anionic polymerization of PDBSMA was carried out with the complex of N, N′-diphenylethylenediamine monolithium amide and a chiral ligand, (+)-1-(2-pyrrolidinylmethyl)pyrrolidine in toluene at −78°C. The obtained polymer was highly isotactic and optically active due to nearly 100% one-handed helical structure.  相似文献

Novel polyfunctional macroinitiators for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) were obtained via esterification of hyperbranched polyglycerol (PG) (Mn = 4 770 g/mol, Mw/Mn = 1.5) with 2‐bromoisobutyryl bromide. Such macroinitiators were used in the presence of CuBr/pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA) to initiate methyl acrylate (MA) polymerization, resulting in multi‐arm block copolymers with polyether core and 45–55 PMA arms. PMA arm length was controlled via monomer/initiator ratio and conversion (< 35%). Polymers were characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, SEC, membrane osmometry and DSC.  相似文献

The radical polymerization of an optically active methacrylamide, N‐[(R)‐α‐methoxycarbonylbenzyl]methacrylamide, was carried out in the absence and presence of Lewis acids such as yittribium trifluoromethanesulfonate [Yb(OTf)3] and scandium trifluoromethanesulfonate [Sc(OTf)3]. Catalytic amounts of the Lewis acids significantly affected the stereoregularity of the obtained polymers. The polymerization with Yb(OTf)3 in tetrahydrofuran afforded isotactic polymers (up to mm = 87%), whereas the conventional radical method without the Lewis acid produced polymers rich in syndiotacticity (up to rr = 88%). The radical polymerization in the presence of MgBr2 proceeded in a heterotactic‐selective manner (mr = 63%). Thus, the isotactic, syndiotactic, and heterotactic poly(methacrylamide)s were synthesized by the radical processes. The chiral recognition abilities of the obtained optically active poly(methacrylamide)s were affected by the stereoregularity. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Tacticity of poly-2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid samples that were prepared via free radical polymerization in four different solvents, ethanol, dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO), N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF) and water, were studied by 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (13C-NMR) techniques. In order to change isotacticity, two rare metal triflates, yttrium trifluoromethane sulfonate (Y(OTf)3) and ytterbium trifluoromethane sulfonate (Yb(OTf)3), were used. The stereoregularity of the obtained polymers in DMSO, water and DMF in the presence of the mentioned triflates did not show a noticeable alteration. But isotacticity of the samples prepared in ethanol was increased by about 17% in the presence 75 wt% Y(OTf)3. In the absence of metal triflates, solvents did not have any significant effect on stereocontrol. In addition, the influence of temperature on isotacticity of the prepared samples was studied. By decreasing the reaction temperature, the isotacticity increased slightly.  相似文献

In this study, stereocontrolled poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PIPAAm) brushes were grafted from surfaces by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) in the presence of a Lewis acid, and the effect of PIPAAm brush tacticity on the thermoresponsive wettabiliy was investigated. PIPAAm grafted by ATRP in the presence of Y(OTf)(3) showed high isotacticity, while the control brush polymerized in the absence of Y(OTf)(3) was clearly atactic. The isotacticity and molecular weight of PIPAAm brushes were controlled by polymerization conditions. The wettability of isotactic PIPAAm-grafted surfaces decreased slightly below 10 °C, although the phase transition temperature of atactic surface was 30 °C, and the bulk isotactic polymer was water-insoluble between 5 and 45 °C.  相似文献

Enantiopure acrylamide derivatives, N‐[o‐(4‐methyl‐4,5‐dihydro‐1,3‐oxazol‐2‐yl) phenyl]acrylamide (MeOPAM), N‐[o‐(4‐isopropyl‐4,5‐dihydro‐1,3‐oxazol‐2‐yl)phenyl]acrylamide (PriOPAM), and N‐[o‐(4‐phenyl‐4,5‐dihydro‐1,3‐oxazol‐2‐yl)phenyl]acrylamide (PhOPAM), were synthesized and radically polymerized in the presence of rare earth metal trifluoromethanesulfonates (Ln(OTf)3, Ln = La, Nd, Sm, and Y) to yield corresponding optically active polymers. Among these Lewis acids, Y(OTf)3 was found to be most effective for increasing the isotactic specificity during the radical polymerizations when using n‐butanol as solvent. Also, the effect of the Lewis acids was significantly influenced by the ratio of Ln(OTf)3 to monomer. The relationship of both chiroptical property and the chiral recognition with the stereoregularity was then examined for the resulting polymers having various tacticity by spectroscopic techniques such as NMR, fluorescence, and circular dichroism. The results indicated that the polymers rich in isotacticity exhibited a favorable enantioselective discrimination ability toward 1,1′‐bi‐2‐naphthol as evidenced by 1H NMR study, where the characteristic hydroxyl proton signal was split into two peaks that ascribed respectively to the levo‐ and dextro‐isomer; furthermore, the splitting magnitude was linearly correlated with the diad isotacticity of the polymers. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Summary: Copolymerization of propylene and 1,4‐divinylbenzene was successfully performed by a MgCl2‐supported TiCl4 catalyst, yielding isotactic poly(propylene) (i‐PP) polymers containing a few pendant styrene groups. With a metalation reaction with butyllithium and a hydrochlorination reaction with dry hydrogen chloride, the pendant styrene groups were quantitatively transformed into benzyllithium and 1‐chloroethylbenzene groups, respectively, which allowed the synthesis of i‐PP‐based graft copolymers by living anionic and atom transfer radical (ATRP) polymerization mechanisms.

The incorporation of styrene pendant groups into isotactic poly(propylene) using a Zeigler–Natta catalyst gave functionalized polymers able to undergo living anionic and atom transfer radical (ATRP) polymerizations.  相似文献

In this paper the synthesis and (co)polymerizations of 4‐(acryloyloxy)‐ε‐caprolactone are reported. This new monomer can be polymerized in a living/controlled way by two different polymerization mechanisms; atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and ring‐opening polymerization (ROP). ATRP, which was carried out at 90°C using NiBr2(PPh3)2, leads to new polyacrylates containing pendant caprolactone functionalities with controlled molecular weights and narrow polydispersities (Mw/Mn ˜1.1). Alternatively, ROP of this functional ε‐caprolactone bearing a pendant acrylate functionality leads to new poly(4‐(acryloyloxy) caprolactone) as well as random copolymers when ε‐caprolactone and L,L‐lactide are added as comonomers. The (co)polymerizations were carried out using either Al(OiPr)3 in toluene at 25°C or Sn(Oct)2 as a catalyst at 110°C producing (co)polymers with controlled molecular weights and narrow polydispersities (Mw/Mn ˜ 1.2). As a potential application, the introduction of acrylate pendant groups into the polyesters facilitated the preparation of cross‐linked biodegradable materials either thermally or by irradiation with ultraviolet light radical curing.  相似文献

The homopolymerization of trans-1,4-hexadiene, cis-1,4-hexadiene, and 5-methyl-1,4-hexadiene was investigated with a variety of catalysts. During polymerization, 1,4-hexadienes undergo concurrent isomerization reactions. The nature and extent of isomerization products are influenced by the monomer structure and polymerization conditions. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and infrared (IR) data show that poly(trans-1,4-hexadiene) and poly(cis-1,4-hexadiene) prepared with a Et3Al/α-TiCl3/hexamethylphosphoric triamide catalyst system consist mainly of 1,2-polymerization units arranged in a regular head-to-tail sequence. A 300-MHz proton NMR spectrum shows that the trans-hexadiene polymer is isotactic; it also may be the case for the cis-hexadiene polymer. These polymers are the first examples of uncrosslinked ozone-resistant rubbers containing pendant unsaturation on alternating carbon atoms of the saturated carbon-carbon backbone. Polymerization of the 1,4-hexadienes was also studied with VOCl3- and β-TiCl3-based catalysts. Microstructures of the resulting polymers are quite complicated due to significant loss of unsaturation, in contrast to those obtained with the α-TiCl3-based catalyst. In agreement with the literature, there was no discernible monomer isomerization with the VOCl3 catalyst system.  相似文献

Amphiphilic block copolymers containing hydrophobic perfluorocyclobutyl‐based (PFCB) polyacrylate and hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) segments were prepared via reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. The PFCB‐containing acrylate monomer, p‐(2‐(p‐tolyloxy)perfluorocyclobutoxy)‐phenyl acrylate, was first synthesized from commercially available compounds in good yields, and this kind of acrylate monomer can be homopolymerized by free radical polymerization or RAFT polymerization. Kinetic study showed the 2,2′‐azobis(isobutyronitrile) (AIBN) initiated and cumyl dithiobenzoate (CDB) mediated RAFT polymerization was in a living fashion, as suggested by the fact that the number‐average molecular weights (Mn) increased linearly with the conversions of the monomer, while the polydispersity indices kept less than 1.10. The block polymers with narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn≦1.21) were prepared through RAFT polymerization using PEG monomethyl ether capped with 4‐cyanopentanoic acid dithiobenzoate end group as the macro chain transfer agent (mPEG‐CTA). The length of the hydrophobic segment can be tuned by the feed ratio of the PFCB‐based acrylate monomer and the extending of the polymerization time. The micellization behavior of the block copolymers in aqueous media was investigated by the fluorescence probe technique.  相似文献

Graft polymerization of ethyl acrylate and n‐butyl acrylate onto surface of polypropylene (PP) beads (diameter: 3.2 mm) were carried out by using a redox system composed of triethylborane (Et3B) and molecular oxygen in air. The amounts of the grafted polymers increased by prolonging a period of soaking PP beads in a solution of Et3B in hexane, a less polar solvent of which affinity with PP would be higher than that of tetrahydrofuran, a highly polar solvent. These results implied that the present graft polymerization involved: (1) interpenetration of Et3B into the surface area with the aid of hexane as a solvent, (2) its aerobic oxidation to generate a radical species, (3) abstraction of proton from PP by the radical species, and (4) initiation of polymerization from the resulting radical on the PP surface. Besides the acrylates, acrylic acid, and glycidyl methacrylate were also grafted onto the surface of PP to endow it with carboxyl and epoxy moieties, respectively. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The radical polymerization of various (meth)acrylamides in the presence of Lewis acids such as Yb(OTf)3 and Y(OTf)3 was carried out. The polymerization with Lewis acids led to highly isotactic polymers, while the polymers synthesized without Lewis acids were atactic or syndiotactic. The dependence of the polymer properties on the tacticity was also demonstrated.  相似文献

Poly(9-fluoreneyl methacrylate) was obtained through anionic polymerization with t-BuLi and t-BuMgBr and through radical polymerization with α,α′-azobisisobutyronitrile. Anionic polymerization with t-BuLi in tetrahydrofuran and radical polymerization afforded syndiotactic polymers (rr ∼ 90%), whereas anionic polymerization with Li and Mg initiators in toluene and CH2Cl2 led to isotactic polymers. The thermal and photophysical properties of the polymers were examined. A syndiotactic polymer tended to show higher glass transition and decomposition temperatures than an isotactic polymer. However, polymers with different tacticities were not likely to assume specific, distinctive conformations such as a helix or a π-stacked conformation in solution. An isotactic polymer showed stronger interactions in a CH2Cl2 solution with 2,4,7-trinitro-9-fluorenylidenemalononitrile, an electron-acceptor molecule, than a syndiotactic polymer. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Hydroxy functional acrylates were prepared via transacylation of methyl acrylate with 1,2,6-hexanetriol catalyzed by Candida antarctica lipase B. Under the applied reaction conditions, 70% of the substrate was converted into hydroxy functional acrylates. In a subsequent step, after filtration of the enzyme, the monomer mixture containing methyl acrylate and the new monomers was polymerized via free radical polymerization resulting in a functional copolymer with Mn = 14500 g/mol.  相似文献
