The internal cavity formed by a dimeric subphthalocyanine (SubPc) capsule (SubPc2Pd3, 2), ensembled by coordination of pyridyl substituents in the monomeric SubPc 1 to Pd centers, has proved an optimal space for the complexation of C60 fullerene. Taking advantage of the intense absorption of green light of the SubPc component at around 550 nm, we have tested different green-light induced photoredox addition reactions over the double bonds of guest C60. Both addition of amine radicals, generated by reductive quenching of the excited state of 2 by aromatic trimethylsilylamines, and addition of trifluoroethyl radicals, obtained from oxidative quenching of the photosensitizer, have successfully taken place with good yields in the 2:C60 host:guest complex. On the other hand, both the photoredox reactions result in much lower yields when the monomeric pyridyl-SubPc is used as a photocatalyst, demonstrating that encapsulation results in a strong acceleration of the reaction. Importantly, this is the first example of the use of a confined microenvironment to trigger photoredox chemical transformations of fullerenes.

A photoredox cage built by coordination of two pyridyl-subphthalocyanines to Pd centers has proved versatile and efficient to catalyze photoredox addition reactions over encapsulated C60.  相似文献

The combination of a bent diamino(nickel(II) porphyrin) with 2‐formylpyridine and FeII yielded an FeII4L6 cage. Upon treatment with the fullerenes C60 or C70, this cage was found to transform into a new host–guest complex incorporating three FeII centers and four porphyrin ligands, in an arrangement that is hypothesized to maximize π interactions between the porphyrin units of the host and the fullerene guest bound within its central cavity. The new complex shows coordinative unsaturation at one of the FeII centers as the result of the incommensurate metal‐to‐ligand ratio, which enabled the preparation of a heterometallic cone‐shaped CuIFeII2L4 adduct of C60 or C70.  相似文献

The sizes of available self-assembled hydrogen-bond-based supramolecular capsules and cages are rather limited. The largest systems have volumes of approximately 1400–2300 Å3. Herein, we report a large, hexameric cage based on intermolecular amide–amide dimerization. The unusual structure with openings, reminiscent of covalently linked cages, is held together by 24 hydrogen bonds. With a diameter of 2.3 nm and a cavity volume of ∼2800 Å3, the assembly is larger than any previously known capsule/cage structure relying exclusively on hydrogen bonds. The self-assembly process in chlorinated, organic solvents was found to be strongly concentration dependent, with the monomeric form prevailing at low concentrations. Additionally, the formation of host–guest complexes with fullerenes (C60 and C70) was observed.  相似文献

We have previously reported that the trimeric Zn2+–cyclen complex (tris(Zn2+–cyclen), [Zn3L1]6+) and the trianion of trithiocyanuric acid (TCA3−) assembled in a 4:4 ratio to form a cuboctahedral supramolecular cage, [(Zn3L1)4(TCA3−)4]12+ (hereafter referred to as a Zn–cage), in neutral aqueous solution (cyclen=1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane). Herein, we examined the molecular recognition of C1–C12 hydrocarbons (CnH(2n+2) (n≈1–12)), cyclopentane, cyclododecane, cis-decalin, and trans-decalin by the Zn–cage under normal atmospheric pressure. This cage complex was also able to encapsulate guest molecules that had larger volumes than that of the inner cavity of the Zn–cage, thereby suggesting that the inner shape of the Zn–cage was flexible. Computational simulations of Zn–cage–guest complexes provided support for this conclusion. Moreover, the solvent-accessible surface areas (SASA) of the Zn–cage host, guest molecules, and the Zn–cage-guest complexes were calculated and the data were used to explain the order of stability determined by the guest-replacement experiments. The storage of volatile molecules in aqueous solution by the Zn–cage is also discussed.  相似文献

To understand host–guest interactions of hydrocarbon clathrate hydrates, we investigated the crystal structure of simple and binary clathrate hydrates including butane (n‐C4H10 or iso‐C4H10) as the guest. Powder X‐ray diffraction (PXRD) analysis using the information on the conformation of C4H10 molecules obtained by molecular dynamics (MD) simulations was performed. It was shown that the guest n‐C4H10 molecule tends to change to the gauche conformation within host water cages. Any distortion of the large 51264 cage and empty 512 cage for the simple iso‐C4H10 hydrate was not detected, and it was revealed that dynamic disorder of iso‐C4H10 and gauchenC4H10 were spherically extended within the large 51264 cages. It was indicated that structural isomers of hydrocarbon molecules with different van der Waals diameters are enclathrated within water cages in the same way owing to conformational change and dynamic disorder of the molecules. Furthermore, these results show that the method reported herein is applicable to structure analysis of other host–guest materials including guest molecules that could change molecular conformations.  相似文献

A series of photoresponsive‐group‐containing nanorings hosts with 12~14 Å in diameter is designed by introducing different number of azo groups as the structural composition units. And the host–guest interactions between fullerene C60 and those nanoring hosts were investigated theoretically at M06‐2X/6‐31G(d)//M06‐L/MIDI! and wB97X‐D/6‐31G(d) levels. Analysis on geometrical characteristics and host–guest binding energies revealed that the designed nanoring molecule (labeled as 7 ) which is composed by seven azo groups and seven phenyls is the most feasible host for encapsulation of C60 guest among all candidates. Moreover, inferring from the simulated UV‐vis‐NIR spectroscopy, the C60 guest could be facilely released from the cavity of the host 7 via configuration transformation between trans‐form and cis‐form of the host under the 563 nm photoirradiation. Additionally, the frontier orbital features, weak interaction regions, infrared, and NMR spectra of the C60@7 host–guest complex have also been investigated theoretically. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

An anthracene cyclic hexamer was synthesized by the coupling reaction as a macrocyclic hydrocarbon host. This disk‐shaped host included a C60 guest in 1:1 ratio to form a Saturn‐type supramolecular complex in solution and in crystals. X‐ray analysis unambiguously revealed that the guest molecule was accommodated in the middle of the host cavity with several CH???π contacts. The association constant Ka determined by NMR titration measurements was 2.3×103 L mol?1 at 298 K in toluene. The structural features and the role of CH???π interactions are discussed with the aid of DFT calculations.  相似文献

Host–guest and supramolecular chemistry can produce water-solubilization of fullerenes such as C60, C70, and C60/70 derivatives by hydrophobic interactions, CH–π interactions, and/or π–π interactions. For materials and biomedical applications, these water-soluble host–fullerene complexes must have the following important properties: (i) high solubility, (ii) high stability, and (iii) functionalization of the host–fullerene complex. These objectives can be achieved by selection of appropriate host molecules, development of novel solubilizing methods, and synthesis of functionalized host molecules. This review describes the introduction of a variety of host molecules that can solubilize fullerenes in water. In addition, we describe applications of host–fullerene complexes, in particular using photoinduced energy- and electron-transfer processes in water.  相似文献

An adaptable cyclic porphyrin dimer with highly flexible linkers has been used as an artificial molecular container that can efficiently encapsulate various aromatic guests (TCNQ/C60/C70) through strong π–π interactions by adjusting its cavity size and conformation. The planar aromatic guest (TCNQ) can be easily and selectively exchanged with larger aromatic guests (C60/C70). During the guest‐exchange process, the two porphyrin rings switch their relative orientation according to the size and shape of the guests. This behavior of the cyclic container has been thoroughly investigated by using UV/Vis spectroscopy, NMR spectroscopy, and X‐ray crystal structure determination of the host–guest assemblies. The electrochemical and photophysical studies demonstrated the occurrence of photoinduced electron transfer from bisporphyrin to TCNQ/C60/C70 in the respective host–guest assemblies. The cyclic host can form complexes with C60 and C70 with association constants of (2.8±0.2)×105 and (1.9±0.3)×108 m −1, respectively; the latter value represents the highest binding affinity for C70 reported so far for zinc(II) bisporphyrinic receptors. This high selectivity for the binding of C70 versus C60 allows the easy extraction and efficient isolation of C70 from a C60/C70 fullerene mixture. Experimental evidence was substantiated by DFT calculations.  相似文献

FeII4L6 tetrahedral cage 1 was prepared from a redox-active dicationic naphthalenediimide (NDI) ligand. The +20 charge of the cage makes it a good host for anionic guests, with no binding observed for neutral aromatic molecules. Following reduction by Cp2Co, the cage released anionic guests; subsequent oxidation by AgNTf2 led to re-uptake of anions. In its reduced form, however, 1 was observed to bind neutral C60. The fullerene guest was subsequently ejected following cage re-oxidation. The guest release process was found to be facilitated by anion-mediated transport from organic to aqueous solution. Cage 1 thus employs electron transfer as a stimulus to control the uptake and release of both neutral and charged guests, through distinct pathways.

FeII4L6 cage 1 binds anionic guests but not neutral guests. In its reduced form, the cage can bind neutral C60. Reduction and oxidation of the cage could thus be used as a stimulus to control the uptake and release of both neutral and charged guests.  相似文献

This article reports that an M2L4 molecular capsule is capable of encapsulating various neutral molecules in quantitative yields. The capsule was obtained as a single product by mixing a small number of components; two PdII ions and four bent bispyridine ligands containing two anthracene panels. Detailed studies of the host capability of the PdII‐linked capsule revealed that spherical (e.g., paracyclophane, adamantanes, and fullerene C60), planar (e.g., pyrenes and triphenylene), and bowl‐shaped molecules (e.g., corannulene) were encapsulated in the large spherical cavity, giving rise to 1:1 and 1:2 host–guest complexes, respectively. The volume of the encapsulated guest molecules ranged from 190 to 490 Å3. Within the capsule, the planar guests adopt a stacked‐dimer structure and the bowl‐shaped guests formed an unprecedented concave‐to‐concave capsular structure, which are fully shielded by the anthracene shell. Competitive binding experiments of the capsule with a set of the planar guests established a preferential binding series for pyrenes≈phenanthrene>triphenylene. Furthermore, the capsule showed the selective formation of an unusual ternary complex in the case of triphenylene and corannulene.  相似文献

The endohedral fullerene CH4@C60, in which each C60 fullerene cage encapsulates a single methane molecule, has been synthesized for the first time. Methane is the first organic molecule, as well as the largest, to have been encapsulated in C60 to date. The key orifice contraction step, a photochemical desulfinylation of an open fullerene, was completed, even though it is inhibited by the endohedral molecule. The crystal structure of the nickel(II) octaethylporphyrin/ benzene solvate shows no significant distortion of the carbon cage, relative to the C60 analogue, and shows the methane hydrogens as a shell of electron density around the central carbon, indicative of the quantum nature of the methane. The 1H spin‐lattice relaxation times (T1) for endohedral methane are similar to those observed in the gas phase, indicating that methane is freely rotating inside the C60 cage. The synthesis of CH4@C60 opens a route to endofullerenes incorporating large guest molecules and atoms.  相似文献

Although a helium atom prefers to stay at the centre of a fullerene (C60) cage and a proton binds with one of the carbon atoms from inside, DFT(MN15)/cc-pVTZ and DLPNO-MP2/def2-TZVP calculations show that the helium atom and the proton in HeH+ prefer to stay away from the centre of the cage, weakening the He–H+ covalent bond considerably. Both the helium atom and the proton exhibit noncovalent interactions with the carbon atoms of two pentagons at the opposite ends of the fullerene cage. Our calculations also show that a linear arrangement of H3+ (inside C60), pointing towards the centres of two pentagons opposite to each other, with the proton breaking away from H2, is energetically more favored over the equilateral triangle geometry of free H3+.  相似文献

Controlling the guest expulsion process from a receptor is of critical importance in various fields. Several coordination cages have been recently designed for this purpose, based on various types of stimuli to induce the guest release. Herein, we report the first example of a redox‐triggered process from a coordination cage. The latter integrates a cavity, the panels of which are based on the extended tetrathiafulvalene unit (exTTF). The unique combination of electronic and conformational features of this framework (i.e. high π‐donating properties and drastic conformational changes upon oxidation) allows the reversible disassembly/reassembly of the redox‐active cavity upon chemical oxidation/reduction, respectively. This cage is able to bind the three‐dimensional B12F122? anion in a 1:2 host/guest stoichiometry. The reversible redox‐triggered disassembly of the cage could also be demonstrated in the case of the host–guest complex, offering a new option for guest‐delivering control.  相似文献

Supramolecular photocatalysis via charge-transfer excitation of a host–guest complex was developed by use of the macrocyclic boronic ester [2+2]BTH-F containing highly electron-deficient difluorobenzothiadiazole moieties. In the presence of a catalytic amount of [2+2]BTH-F, the triplet excited state of anthracene was generated from the charge-transfer excited state of anthracene@[2+2]BTH-F by visible-light irradiation, and cycloaddition of the excited anthracene with several dienes and alkenes proceeded in a [4+2] manner in high yields.  相似文献

An open‐cage C60 tetraketone with a large opening was able to encapsulate N2 and CO2 molecules after its exposure to high pressures of N2 and CO2 gas. A subsequent selective reduction of one of the four carbonyl groups on the rim of the opening induced a contraction of the opening (→ 2 ) and trapped the guest molecules inside 2 . The thus‐obtained host–guest complexes N2@ 2 and CO2@ 2 could be isolated by recycling HPLC, and were found to be stable at room temperature. The molecular structures of N2@ 2 and CO2@ 2 were determined by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction analyses, and revealed a short N?N triple bond for the encapsulated N2, as well as an unsymmetric molecular structure for the encapsulated molecule of CO2. The IR spectrum of CO2@ 2 suggested that the rotation of the encapsulated molecule of CO2 is partially restricted, which was supported by DFT calculations.  相似文献

We report the synthesis and characterization of a three‐dimensional tetraphenylethene‐based octacationic cage that shows host–guest recognition of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (e.g. coronene) in organic media and water‐soluble dyes (e.g. sulforhodamine 101) in aqueous media through CH???π, π–π, and/or electrostatic interactions. The cage?coronene exhibits a cuboid internal cavity with a size of approximately 17.2×11.0×6.96 Å3 and a “hamburger”‐type host–guest complex, which is hierarchically stacked into 1D nanotubes and a 3D supramolecular framework. The free cage possesses a similar cavity in the crystalline state. Furthermore, a host–guest complex formed between the octacationic cage and sulforhodamine 101 had a higher absolute quantum yield (ΦF=28.5 %), larger excitation–emission gap (Δλex‐em=211 nm), and longer emission lifetime (τ=7.0 ns) as compared to the guest (ΦF=10.5 %; Δλex‐em=11 nm; τ=4.9 ns), and purer emission (ΔλFWHM=38 nm) as compared to the host (ΔλFWHM=111 nm).  相似文献

Construction of metal–organic cages with unique architecture and guest binding abilities is highly desirable. Herein, we report the synthesis of a distorted trigonal cage ( 1 ) from a twisted tetratopic ligand ( L ) and a PdII acceptor. Surprisingly, 1 exhibited a complete structural reorganization of its building units in the presence of C70 and C60 to form guest-encapsulated tetragonal cages, (C70)2@ 2 and (C60)2@ 2 , respectively. These guest-bound cages were found to be potential 1O2 generators, with the former effectively catalyzing two different varieties of 1O2-mediated oxidation reactions.  相似文献

Supramolecular capsules of THF and acid molecules inside cucurbit[6]uril have been prepared via [C2mim]Br route. The 1:1 ratio of host–guest complexes have been characterized by 1H NMR, thermal gravimetric analysis and elemental analysis in solution and in solid state. Two types of release have been observed in NaCl aqueous solution, including partial release of THF due to stronger binding and complete release of acid molecules (C3–C6) due to weaker binding.  相似文献
