Chirality‐driven self‐sorting is envisaged to efficiently control functional properties in supramolecular materials. However, the challenge arises because of a lack of analytical methods to directly monitor the enantioselectivity of the resulting supramolecular assemblies. Presented herein are two fluorescent core‐substituted naphthalene‐diimide‐based donor and acceptor molecules with minimal structural mismatch and they comprise strong self‐recognizing chiral motifs to determine the self‐sorting process. As a consequence, stereoselective supramolecular polymerization with an unprecedented chirality control over energy transfer has been achieved. This chirality‐controlled energy transfer has been further exploited as an efficient probe to visualize microscopically the chirality driven self‐sorting.  相似文献

A “chirality driven self‐sorting” strategy is introduced for the controlled supramolecular organization of donor (D) and acceptor (A) molecules in multicomponent assemblies. The trans‐1,2‐bis(amido)cyclohexane (trans‐BAC) has been identified as a supramolecular motif with strong homochiral recognition to direct this chirality controlled assembly process of enantiomers in solution. Stereoselective supramolecular polymerization of trans‐BAC appended naphthalene diimide monomers (NDIs) has been probed in detail by spectroscopic and mechanistic investigations. This chirality‐driven self‐sorting design of enantiomeric components also offers to realize mixed and segregated D‐A stacks by supramolecular co‐assembly of the NDI acceptors with trans‐BAC appended dialkoxynaphthalene (DAN) donor monomers. Such an unprecedented chirality control on D‐A organization paves the way for the creation of supramolecular p‐n nanostructures with controlled molecular‐level organization.  相似文献

Hierarchical supramolecular chiral liquid‐crystalline (LC) polymer assemblies are challenging to construct in situ in a controlled manner. Now, polymerization‐induced chiral self‐assembly (PICSA) is reported. Hierarchical supramolecular chiral azobenzene‐containing block copolymer (Azo‐BCP) assemblies were constructed with π–π stacking interactions occurring in the layered structure of Azo smectic phases. The evolution of chirality from terminal alkyl chain to Azo mesogen building blocks and further induction of supramolecular chirality in LC BCP assemblies during PICSA is achieved. Morphologies such as spheres, worms, helical fibers, lamellae, and vesicles were observed. The morphological transition had a crucial effect on the chiral expression of Azo‐BCP assemblies. The supramolecular chirality of Azo‐BCP assemblies destroyed by 365 nm UV irradiation can be recovered by heating–cooling treatment; this dynamic reversible achiral–chiral switching can be repeated at least five times.  相似文献

Polymerization-induced chiral self-assembly(PICSA)is an efficient strategy that not only allows the construction of the supramolecular chiral assemblies in a controlled manner but also can regulate the morphology in situ.Herein,a series of azobenzene-containing block copolymer(Azo-BCP)assemblies with tunable morphologies and supramolecular chirality were obtained through the PICSA strategy. The supramolecular chirality of Azo-BCP assemblies could be regulated by carbon dioxide(CO2)stimulus,and completely recovered by bubbling with Ar.A reversible morphology transformation and chiroptical switching process could also be achieved by the alternative 365 nm UV light irradiation and heatingcooling treatment. Moreover, the supramolecular chirality is thermo-responsive and a reversible chiral-achiral switching was successfully realized, which can be reversibly repeated for at least five times. This work provides a feasible strategy for constructing triple stimuli-responsive supramolecular chiral nano-objects in situ.  相似文献

Mandelic acid (MA) was utilized as a chiral biomass-based precursor to synthesize methacrylic monomers suitable for radical polymerization. A series of polymers were made that incorporated varying feeds of monomer stereopurity and the properties of these materials were investigated. High molar masses (>90 kg/mol) were achieved and the chirality in each polymer closely reflected the stereopurity of the monomer feeds. It was discovered that stereochemical effects had very little influence on the thermal and viscoelastic properties of the polymers produced, however, the steric bulk of the chiral pendants resulted in glassy, amorphous, and thermally stable materials with very low degrees of entanglement. The synthesis, thermal, and viscoelastic properties are discussed.  相似文献

Chiral analysis of bioactive molecules is of increasing significance in chemical and life sciences. However, the quantitative detection of a racemic mixture of enantiomers is a challenging task, which relies on complicated and time‐consuming multiple steps of chiral derivatization, chiral separation, and spectroscopic measurement. Herein, we show that, without the use of chiral molecules or pretreatment steps, the co‐assembly of amino acids with achiral TPPS4 monomers controlled by enantiomorphic microvortices allows quantitative detection of racemic or enantiomeric amino acids, through analysis of the sign and magnitude of supramolecular chirality in different outlets of a microfluidic platform. A model demonstrates that chiral microvortices can induce an initial chiral bias by bending the sheet structure, resulting in supramolecular self‐assembly of TPPS4 and amino acids of compatible chirality by the self‐sorting. This sensing system may find versatile applications in chiral sensing.  相似文献

Steroidal bile acids and their derivatives exhibit characteristic inclusion behaviors in the crystalline state. Their crystals present varied assemblies due to asymmetric molecular structures, which relate to supramolecular properties through cooperative weak interactions. An overview indicates that the steroidal assemblies lie in an intermediate position among various molecules and have hierarchical structures such as primary, secondary, tertiary, and host-guest assemblies like proteins. Such an interpretation brought about the idea that the assemblies with dimensionality present supramolecular chirality such as three-axial, tilt, helical, bundle, and complementary chirality. This concept of the supramolecular chirality enables us to understand formation of chiral crystals starting from the molecular chirality of the steroidal molecules.  相似文献

The design of charge separation sites under illumination in semiconductors is a standing challenge for their utilization as photo(electro)catalysts. Here, the synthesis of modified carbon nitride materials (CNs) with donor–acceptor (D–A) domains, with altering electronic structure, is reported. To do so, new monomers based on polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH)-substituted 1,3,5-triazine were designed, which were then embedded within cyanuric acid–melamine supramolecular assemblies to form CN precursors. The conjugation degree of PAHs was systematically changed, from single benzene ring up to pyrene unit, elucidating the role of the conjugation degree on the morphology, structure and electronic properties as well as photo(electro)catalytic activity. The careful design of the D–A sites results in excellent photocatalytic activity as well as long-term stability for the hydrogen evolution reaction. Moreover, PAH–CNs films exhibit enhanced charge separation, optical absorption, electrochemical surface area and electronic conductivity, leading to an outstanding photoelectrochemical (PEC) activity compared to pristine CN.  相似文献

Chiral structures created through the adsorption of molecules onto achiral surfaces play pivotal roles in many fields of science and engineering. Here, we present a systematic study of a novel chiral phenomenon on a surface in terms of organizational chirality, that is, meso‐isomerism, through coverage‐driven hierarchical polymorphic transitions of supramolecular assemblies of highly symmetric π‐conjugated molecules. Four coverage‐dependent phases of dehydrobenzo[12]annulene were uniformly fabricated on Ag(111), exhibiting unique chiral characteristics from the single‐molecule level to two‐dimensional supramolecular assemblies. All coverage‐driven phase transitions stem from adsorption‐induced pseudo‐diastereomerism, and our observation of a lemniscate‐type (∞) supramolecular configuration clearly reveals a drastic chiral phase transition from an enantiomeric chiral domain to a meso‐isomeric achiral domain. These findings provide new insights into controlling two‐dimensional chiral architectures on surfaces.  相似文献

Circularly polarized photodetectors require chiral light absorption materials with high sensing efficiency and low costs. Here readily accessible point chirality has been introduced to dicyanostilbenes as the chiral source, facilitating remote chirality transfer to the π-aromatic core by cooperative supramolecular polymerization. The single-handed supramolecular polymers display powerful circularly polarized photodetection capability with a dissymmetry factor value as high as 0.83, superior to those of π-conjugated small molecules and oligomers. Strong chiral amplification occurs between the enantiopure sergeants and the achiral soldiers. The resulting supramolecular copolymers exhibit comparable photodetection efficiency to those of the homopolymeric ones, with a 90 % decrease in the enantiopure compound consumption. Therefore, cooperative supramolecular polymerization provides an effective yet economical avenue toward circularly polarized photodetection applications.  相似文献

Chirality transfer from chiral molecules to assemblies is of vital importance to the design of functional chiral materials. In this work, selective co-assembly behaviors between chiral molecules and an achiral luminophore, potentially driven by the intermolecular salt-bridge type hydrogen bonds are reported. Cyano-substituted tetrakis(arylthio)benzene carboxylic acid ( TA ) served as the luminophore and hydrogen bond donors, which underwent co-assembly with different chiral amines. It was found that structures of chiral amines affect the chirality transfer and the properties of co-assemblies due to effects on hydrogen bonds and stacking pattern. Only in specific co-assemblies, the chiroptical properties occurred at both ground state and excited states based on the emerged Cotton effects and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) signals, revealing that the chirality was successfully transferred from molecular level to supramolecular level. In addition, accurate quantitative examination of chiral amines was realized by circular dichroism (CD) spectra. This work demonstrates the characteristic chirality response and transfer through co-assembly, providing a potential method to develop smart chiroptical materials.  相似文献

We present our results on the mixing of different porphyrin molecules in supramolecular assemblies. Herein, chiral amplification experiments reveal the subtle role of the structural (mis)match between these monomers. We show that according to the "sergeant-and-soldiers" principle, a chiral porphyrin "sergeant" efficiently mixes with achiral "soldiers" in the same helical aggregate and strongly biases its handedness. However, when we mix two porphyrin enantiomers in a majority-rules experiment, no chiral amplification is observed at all, which is due to their narcissistic self-sorting into conglomerate-like aggregates. The mixing between two enantiomers in the same stack only occurs in a diluted-majority-rules experiment, in which enantiomeric mixtures of sergeants are diluted with achiral soldiers. The different outcomes of these chiral amplification phenomena are verified by modeling studies that reveal high mismatch penalties, which are ascribed to the high stereocenter loading of 12 methyl groups onto the monomers. Mixed-metal chiral amplification experiments between copper- and zinc-porphyrins show the same distinction in their mixing behavior, which is further supported by fluorescence measurements. The selective removal of chiral Zn-porphyrins from these mixed-metal systems is performed with the Lewis base quinuclidine that depolymerizes the Zn-porphyrins upon axial ligation. This extraction process proceeds at different time scales, depending on the mixed state: slow extraction kinetics for the mixed sergeant-and-soldiers and diluted-majority-rules systems and an instant extraction for the phase-separated majority-rules system. By simultaneously monitoring the supramolecular chirality during extraction, a chiral memory effect is observed for both mixed systems that show slow extraction kinetics. For the sergeant-and-soldiers system, the remaining supramolecular backbone contains achiral monomers only, which give rise to a long lasting chiral memory with slow, entropy-driven atropisomerization. Yet in case of the diluted-majority-rules system, the remaining backbone contains a mixture of achiral and chiral monomers in its unpreferred helicity; giving rise to a short chiral memory, in which the fast atropisomerization is enthalpy-driven due to the high mismatch penalty.  相似文献

Stereoselective and temporally controlled supramolecular polymerizations are ubiquitous in nature and are desirable attributes for the design of chiral, well-defined functional materials. Kinetically controlled, living supramolecular polymerization (LSP) has emerged recently for the synthesis of supramolecular polymers with controlled length and narrow dispersity. On the other hand, stringent design requirements for chiral-discriminating monomers precludes the stereoselective control of the supramolecular polymer structure. Herein, a synergetic stereo- and structural control of supramolecular polymerization by the realization of an unprecedented stereoselective seed-induced LSP is reported. Homochiral and seeded growth is demonstrated with bischromophoric naphthalene diimide (NDI) enantiomers with a chiral binaphthyl amine core, exhibiting strong self-recognition abilities and pathway complexity.  相似文献

Helical vinyl aromatic polymers are emerging as interesting chiral materials due to their dynamic tailorability, synthetic simplicity, and outstanding chemical and physical stabilities. This Personal Account discusses long‐range chirality transfer in the radical polymerization of vinylterphenyl monomers and tunable stereomutation of the resultant polymers. It begins with a general introduction to the design, synthesis, and characterization of helical poly{(+)‐2,5‐bis[4′‐((S)‐2‐methylbutyloxy)phenyl]styrene}, the first one of this series of polymers. Then, long‐range chirality transfer during radical polymerization of terphenyl‐based vinyl monomers is explained. After that, the chiroptical property control of the resultant polymers by means of the transition from kinetically controlled conformation to thermodynamically controlled conformation and external stimulus is described. This Personal Account concludes by discussing the advantages and disadvantages of the strategy of using vinylterphenyls to obtain optically active helical polymers and providing a short outlook, especially emphasizing the importance of tacticity on the chiroptical properties of polymers.  相似文献

Directing the supramolecular polymerization towards a preferred type of organization is extremely important in the design of functional soft materials. Proposed herein is a simple methodology to tune the length and optical chirality of supramolecular polymers formed from a chiral bichromophoric binaphthalene by the control of enantiomeric excess (ee). The enantiopure compound gave thin fibers longer than a few microns, while the racemic mixture favored the formation of nanoparticles. The thermodynamic study unveils that the heterochiral assembly gets preference over the homochiral assembly. The stronger heterochiral binding over homochiral one terminated the elongation of fibrous assembly, thus leading to a control over the length of fibers in the nonracemic mixtures. The supramolecular polymerization driven by π–π interactions highlights the effect of the geometry of a twisted π‐core on this self‐sorting assembly.  相似文献
