Large Eddy Simulation of the bubble bursting process over a NACA-0012 airfoil at $Re_{c}=10^{5}$ indicates that the flow at a fixed angle of attack below the critical stall value exhibits a short (with respect to Gaster’s criteria, Gaster, Number CP-4 in AGARD, 1966) Laminar Separation Bubble (LSB) at the leading edge of the airfoil. The airfoil is smoothly pitched-up through the static stall angle to reproduce the bursting process of the short LSB that initiates a leading edge stall typical of low Reynolds number airfoil. The temporal evolution of characteristic length scales is monitored during the transient flow. Particular attention is paid to the characteristic time involved during the growth and bursting of the LSB. A recent empirical bursting criterion is used to analyse the LES results.  相似文献

A Large Eddy Simulation (LES) of turbulent flow over an airfoil near stall is performed. Results of the LES are compared with those of Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) simulations using two well-known turbulence models, namely the Baldwin-Lomax model and the Spalart-Allmaras model. The subgrid scale model used for the LES is the filtered structure function model. All simulations are performed using the same structured multi-block code. In order to reduce the CPU time, an implicit time stepping method is used for the LES. The purpose of this study is to show the possibilities and limitations of LES of complex flows associated with aeronautical applications using state of the art simulation techniques. Typical flow features are captured by the LES such as the adverse-pressure gradient and flow retardation. Visualization of instantaneous flow fields shows the typical streaky structures in the near-wall region.  相似文献

A laminar boundary layer separates in a region of adverse pressure gradient on a flat plate and undergoes transition. Finally the turbulent boundary layer reattaches, forming a laminar separation bubble (LSB). Laminar-turbulent transition within such a LSB is investigated by means of Laser-Doppler-Anemometry (LDA), Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), and direct numerical simulation (DNS). The transition mechanism occurring in the flow-field under consideration is discussed in detail. Observations for the development of small disturbances are compared to predictions from viscous linear instability theory (Tollmien–Schlichting instability). Non-linear development of these disturbances and their role in final breakdown to turbulence is analyzed.  相似文献

A large-eddy simulation (LES) of a transitional separated flow over a plate with a semi-circular leading at low (<0.2%) and high (5.6%) free-stream turbulence (FST) has been performed, using a co-located grid with the Rhie–Chow pressure smoothing. A numerical trip is used to produce a high FST level and a dynamic subgrid-scale model is also employed in the current study. The entire transition process leading to breakdown to turbulence has been shown clearly by the flow visualisations using instantaneous spanwise vorticities, and the differences between the low- and high-FST cases are clearly visible. Coherent structures are also visualised using isosurfaces of the Q-criterion, and for the high-FST case, the spanwise-oriented quasi-two-dimensional rolls, which are clearly present in the low-FST case, are not visible anymore. Detailed quantitative comparisons between the present LES results and experimental data and the previous LES results at low FST using a staggered grid have been done and a good agreement has been obtained, indicating that the current LES using a co-located grid with pressure smoothing can also predict transitional flows accurately.  相似文献

Boundary layer transition over an isolated surface roughness element is investigated by means of numerical simulation. Large Eddy Simulation (LES) flow-modeling approach is employed to study flow characteristics and transition phenomenon past a roughness element immersed within an incoming developing boundary layer, at a height-based Reynolds number of 1170. LES numerical results are compared to experimental data from literature showing the time-averaged velocity distribution, the velocity fluctuation statistics and the instantaneous flow topology.Despite slight difference in the intensity of streamwise velocity fluctuations, the present LES results and experimental data show very good agreement. The mean flow visualization shows streamwise counter-rotating vortices pairs formation downstream of the obstacle. The primary pair induces an upwash motion and a momentum deficit that creates a Kelvin-Helmholtz type flow instability. The instantaneous flow topology reveals the formation of coherent K-H vortices downstream that produce turbulent fluctuations in the wake of the roughness element. These vortices are streched and lifted up when moving downstream. The velocity fluctuations results show that the onset of the turbulence is dominated by the energy transfer of large-scale vortices.  相似文献

通过对比标准k-ω SST 湍流模型和基于标准k-ω SST 湍流模型修正的γ-Reθ 转捩湍流模型对绕振荡NACA66 水翼流动的数值计算结果与实验结果,对水翼振荡过程的水动力特性和流场结构变化进行了分析研究. 结果表明:与标准k-ω SST 湍流模型的数值计算结果相比,基于标准k-ω SST 湍流模型修正的γ-Reθ 转捩湍流模型能有效预测绕振荡翼型流场结构和水动力特性,捕捉流场边界层发生的流动分离和转捩现象;绕振荡水翼的流动过程可分为5 个特征阶段,当来流攻角较小时,在水翼前缘发生层流向湍流的转捩现象,水翼动力特征曲线出现变化拐点;随着来流攻角的增大,顺时针尾缘涡逐渐形成并向水翼前缘发展;当攻角较大时,前缘涡分离导致动力失速,水翼的动力特征曲线出现大幅波动;水翼处于顺时针向下旋转阶段,绕水翼的流动状态逐渐由湍流过渡为层流.  相似文献

针对动态失速引起的风力机翼型气动性能恶化的问题,本文基于动网格和滑移网格技术, 开展了大涡模拟数值计算研究,探索了非定常脉冲等离子体的动态流动控制机理. 结果表明,等离子体气动激励能够有效控制翼型动态失速, 改善平均和瞬态气动力,减小力矩负峰值和迟滞环面积. 压力分布在等离子体施加范围内出现了负压"凸起",上翼面吸力峰值明显增大.脉冲频率和占空比这两个非定常控制参数对流动控制影响显著,无因次脉冲频率为1.5时等离子体控制效果较好,占空比为0.8时即可接近连续工作模式下的气动收益. 翼型深失速状态,等离子体促使流动分离位置明显向后缘移动, 抵抗了大尺度动态失速涡的发生,分离涡结构破碎耗散、重新附着, 涡流影响范围减小; 浅失速状态,等离子体激励具有较强的剪切层操纵能力, 诱导了翼型边界层提前转捩,促进了与主流的动量掺混. 等离子体气动激励诱导出前缘附近贴体翼面"涡簇",起到了虚拟气动外形的作用.不同尺度、频域的动态涡结构与等离子体气动激励的非线性、强耦合作用导致了气动力/力矩的谐波振荡.   相似文献

细颗粒泥沙净冲刷和输移的大涡模拟研究   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0  
在传统水沙输移数值模拟研究中一般采用雷诺时均模拟技术(Reynolds-averaged simulation,RANS).与RANS相比,大涡模拟技术(large eddy simulation,LES)能够更加精确反映细部流动结构,计算机的发展使得采用LES探讨水流和泥沙运动规律成为可能.本文尝试给出净冲刷条件下悬沙计算的边界条件,采用动态亚格子模式对循环槽道和长槽道中的水流运动和泥沙输移进行了三维大涡模拟研究.利用直接数值模拟(direct numerical simulation,DNS)结果对LES模型进行了率定,计算结果符合良好,在此基础上初步探讨了泥沙浓度、湍动强度和湍动通量等的分布特征.结果表明,净冲刷条件下输沙平衡时泥沙浓度符合Rouse公式分布,单向流动中泥沙浓度沿着流向逐渐增大.泥沙浓度湍动强度和湍动通量都在近底部达到最大值,沿着垂向迅速减小.湍动黏性系数和扩散系数基本上在水深中间处达到最大.湍动Schmidt数沿着水深方向不是常数,在近底部和自由水面附近较大,在水深中间处较小.  相似文献

The three-dimensional transition to turbulence in the transonic flow around a NACA0012 wing of constant spanwise section has been analysed at zero incidence and within the Reynolds number range [3000, 10000], by performing the direct numerical simulation. The successive stages of the 2D and 3D transition beyond the first bifurcation have been identified. A 2D study has been carried out near the threshold concerning the appearance of the first bifurcation that is the von-Kármán instability. The critical Mach number associated with this flow transition has been evaluated. Three other successive stages have been detected as the Mach number further increases in the range [0.3, 0.99]. Concerning the 3D transition of this nominally 2D flow configuration, the amplification of the secondary instability has been studied within the Reynolds number range of [3000, 5000]. The formation of counter-rotating longitudinal vorticity cells and the consequent appearance of a large-scale spanwise wavelength have been obtained downstream of the trailing-edge shock. A vortex dislocation pattern is developed as a consequence of the shock-vortex interaction near the trailing edge. The subcritical nature of the present 3D transition to turbulence has been proven by means of the DNS amplification signals and the Landau global oscillator model.  相似文献

大涡模拟是研究湍流的非定常特性的重要方法. 但解析壁面层的大涡模拟所需的计算量与直接数值模拟相当,是大涡模拟在高雷诺数壁湍流数值模拟中所面临的主要困难. 解析壁面层所需的网格尺度与壁面黏性长度同量级,是引起壁湍流大涡模拟计算量增加的主要原因. 壁模型通过模化近壁流动避免了完全解析壁面层,可以显著地降低壁湍流大涡模拟的计算量,是克服上述困难的有效方法. 本文介绍了大涡模拟壁模型的主要类型;详细讨论了常用的壁面应力模型,特别是平衡层模型和双层模型的构建思路和特点;基于近壁流动的特征讨论了应力边界条件的必要性和适用性;指出了壁面应力模型的局限性以及考虑非平衡效应修正的各种方法;讨论了壁面应力模型的研究历史、最新进展和发展趋势,给出了常用的壁面应力模型的分支与发展关系图;并基于Werner-Wengle模型实现了周期山状流的大涡模拟.   相似文献

The transitional separated–reattached flow on a flat plate with a blunt leading edge under 2% free-stream turbulence (FST) is numerically simulated using the Large-eddy simulation (LES) approach. The Reynolds number based on the free-stream velocity and the plate thickness is 6500. A dynamic subgrid-scale model is employed and the LES results compare well with the available experimental data.It is well known that FST enhances shear-layer entrainment rates, reduces the mean reattachment distance, and causes early transition to turbulence leading to an early breakdown of the separated boundary layer. Many experimental studies have shown that different vortex shedding frequencies exist, specially the so called low-frequency flapping when there is a separation bubble but its mechanism is still not completely understood. The previous study by us without free-stream turbulence (NFST) did not show the existence of such a low-frequency flapping of the shear layer and it is not clear what the effects of FST will have on these shedding modes. Detailed analysis of the LES data has been presented in the present paper and the low-frequency flapping has not been detected in the current study.  相似文献

A direct numerical simulation of subharmonic transition to turbulence in channel flow has been performed. The stages of primary and secondary instability have been identified in the results leading to a staggered pattern of A-shaped vortices. The associated staggered symmetry has been found to persist up to rather late stages of the breakdown process. This symmetry rapidly disappears in the final stage of transition and a developed turbulent flow is attained. A pronounced difference in the development between the two channel halves is observed which is consistent with the predictions of secondary instability theory.  相似文献

The fluid–structure interaction is investigated numerically for a two-dimensional flow (Re=2.5·106) over a sinusoid-pitching foil by the SST (Shear Stress Transport) kω model. Although discrepancies in the downstroke phase, which are also documented in other numerical studies, are observed by comparing with experimental results, our current numerical results are sufficient to predict the mean features and qualitative tendencies of the dynamic stall phenomenon. These discrepancies are evaluated carefully from the numerical and experimental viewpoints.In this study, we have utilized Λ, which is the normalized second invariant of the velocity gradient tensor, to present the evolution of the Leading Edge Vortex (LEV) and Trailing Edge Vortex (TEV). The convective, pressure, and diffusion terms during the dynamic stall process are discussed based on the transport equation of Λ. It is found that the pressure term dominates the rate of the change of the rotation strength inside the LEV. This trend can hardly be observed directly by using the vorticity transport equation due to the zero baroclinic term for the incompressible flow.The mechanisms to delay the stall are categorized based on the formation of the LEV. At the first stage before the formation of the LEV in the upper surface, the pitching foil provides extra momentum into the fluid flows to resist the flow separation, and hence the stall is delayed. At the second stage, a low-pressure area travels with the evolution of the LEV such that the lift still can be maintained. Three short periods at the second stage corresponds to different flow patterns during the dynamic stall, and these short periods can be distinguished according to the trend of the pressure variation inside the LEV. The lift stall occurs when a reverse flow from the lower surface is triggered during the shedding of the LEV. For a reduced frequency kf=0.15, the formation of the TEV happens right after the lift stall, and the lift can drop dramatically. With a faster reduced frequency kf=0.25, the shedding of the LEV is postponed into the downstroke, and the interaction between the LEV and TEV becomes weaker correspondingly. Thus, the lift drops more gently after the stall. In order to acquire more reliable numerical results within the downstroke phase, the Large Eddy Simulation (LES), which is capable of better predictions for the laminar-to-turbulent transition and flow reattachment process, will be considered as the future work.  相似文献

The convergence properties of an iterative solution technique for the Reduced Navier–Stokes equations are examined for two-dimensional steady subsonic flow over bump and trough geometries. Techniques for decreasing the sensitivity to the initial pressure approximation, for fine meshes in particular, are investigated. They are shown to improve the robustness of the relaxation process and to decrease the computational work required to obtain a converged solution. A semi-coarsening multigrid technique that has previously been found to be particularly advantageous for high-Reynolds-number (Re) flows with flow separation and with highly stretched surface-normal grids is applied herein to further accelerate convergence. Solutions are obtained for the laminar flow over a trough that is more severe than has been considered to date. Sufficient axial grid refinement in this case leads to a shock-like reattachment and, for sufficiently large Re, to a local ‘divergence’ of the numerical computations. This ‘laminar flow breakdown’ appears to be related to an instability associated with high-frequency fine-grid modes that are not resolvable with the present modelling. This behaviour may be indicative of dynamic stall or of incipient transition. The breakdown or instability is shown to be controllable by suitable introduction of transition turbulence models or by laminar flow control, i.e. small amounts of wall suction. This lends further support to the hypothesis that the instability is of a physical rather than numerical character and suggests that full three-dimensional analysis is required to properly capture the flow behaviour. Another inference drawn from this investigation is that there is a need for careful grid refinement studies in high-Re flow computations, since coarser grids may yield oscillation-free solutions that cannot be obtained on finer grids.  相似文献

In internal combustion engines, the characteristic in-cylinder flow field is essential and significantly contributes to engine efficiency and performance. This paper describes the numerical investigation of the flow field in a motored 4-stroke, single-cylinder research engine. Quantitative and qualitative comparisons between experimental and numerical data have been performed at selected crank angle and results obtained in this work are discussed. Statistical flow properties are examined to analyze the averaged and instantaneous flow field. In order to investigate higher order statistical velocity moments and gain insight in the physical processes describing the engine flow structure, multi-cycle Large Eddy Simulation (LES) was carried out on two meshes with different spatial resolution. The three-dimensional structure of the flow has been also visualized by means of iso-surfaces of vortical structures, based on the Q criterion for individual cycles during intake. In order to assess the analysis and to verify that the computational mesh is applicable for the performance of LES simulations, the turbulence resolution M and the ratio of sgs-viscosity to the laminar viscosity were evaluated along the planes of interest. A direct comparison of the statistics of the flow field extracted from the numerical predictions shows a very good agreement with measurements conducted in the same configuration. Discrepancies have been however observed, in particular in the higher moments of the velocity components. Whilst this can be attributed mostly to the limited number of statistical sample (50 LES cycles) collected during the simulation, further investigation is certainly necessary to assess the relevance of modeling and spatial resolution issues.  相似文献

A new approach to turbulence simulation, based on a combination of large eddy simulation (LES) for the whole flow and an array of non–space‐filling quasi‐direct numerical simulations (QDNS), which sample the response of near‐wall turbulence to large‐scale forcing, is proposed and evaluated. The technique overcomes some of the cost limitations of turbulence simulation, since the main flow is treated with a coarse‐grid LES, with the equivalent of wall functions supplied by the near‐wall sampled QDNS. Two cases are tested, at friction Reynolds number Reτ=4200 and 20000. The total grid point count for the first case is less than half a million and less than 2 million for the second case, with the calculations only requiring a desktop computer. A good agreement with published direct numerical simulation (DNS) is found at Reτ=4200, both in the mean velocity profile and the streamwise velocity fluctuation statistics, which correctly show a substantial increase in near‐wall turbulence levels due to a modulation of near‐wall streaks by large‐scale structures. The trend continues at Reτ=20000, in agreement with experiment, which represents one of the major achievements of the new approach. A number of detailed aspects of the model, including numerical resolution, LES‐QDNS coupling strategy and subgrid model are explored. A low level of grid sensitivity is demonstrated for both the QDNS and LES aspects. Since the method does not assume a law of the wall, it can in principle be applied to flows that are out of equilibrium.  相似文献

The performance of implicit large eddy simulation (ILES) of a supersonic flat-plate turbulent boundary layer flow by weighted compact nonlinear scheme (WCNS) has been investigated. In view of features of WCNS and ILES, it was expected that ILES by WCNS could be an efficient approach to perform LES of supersonic turbulent flows. The flowfield calculated by WCNS was of lower turbulent intensity compared with an explicit LES data obtained by a numerical scheme of the same order of accuracy on a computational grid of similar resolution. It was concluded that the numerical dissipation inherent in WCNS is so large that applying WCNS to ILES of this flowfield is inefficient compared with explicit LES.  相似文献
