The spectral distribution of light scattered by spontaneous thermal fluctuations about equilibrium in binary mixtures of monatomic gases is studied as a function of different interparticle potentials by using the linearized two-fluid hydrodynamic equations for gas mixtures. The results are applied to helium-xenon gas mixtures and compared with some experimental data. A good quantitative agreement between theoretical and experimental results is observed in the two-fluid regime provided that the helium and xenon particles interact according to the Lennard-Jones (6–12) model.  相似文献

Using a high-viscosity Newtonian fluid, glycerol, an experimental investigation was carried out to evaluate the stable spouting regime in conical spouted beds using four particle mixtures: a reference (monoparticles), a binary mixture, two ternary mixtures with flat and Gaussian distributions respectively. The mixtures were selected for particle diameters (dp) ranging from 1.09 to 4.98 mm and particle diameter ratios (dpL/dps) ranging from 1.98 to 4.0. Experimental data show that pressure fluctuation signals of the bed, as indicated by changes in their standard deviations, provide suitable information to identify the range of operational conditions for stable spouting. However, the analysis of skewness of curves of pressure fluctuation as a function of air velocity appears not sufficient to identify a particular flow regime. For glycerol in the spouting regime, the standard deviation is noted to increase with increasing glycerol concentration due to the growth of interparticle forces. The implications of these research findings on the drying of suspensions in conical spouted beds using glass bead mixtures are also discussed.  相似文献

Detonation experiments in H2–NO2/N2O4–Ar mixtures (Equivalence ratio 1.2 and initial pressure lower than 0.1 MPa) confined in a tube of internal diameter 52 mm reveal two propagation regimes depending on initial pressure: (1) a quasi-CJ regime is observed along with a double cellular structure at high pressures; (2) at lower pressures, a low velocity detonation regime is observed with a single structure. Transition between this two regimes happens when the spinning detonation of the larger cell vanishes. Each detonation regime is characterized by velocity and pressure measurements and cellular structure records. Coherence between all experimental data for each experiment leads in assumption that losses are responsible for the transition between one regime to another. In a second part, we study such behaviour for a two-step mixture through numerical simulations using a global two-step chemical kinetics and a simple losses model. Numerical simulations qualitatively agree with experiments. Both detonation regimes with their own cellular structures are reproduced.  相似文献

Present research highlights the potential of apparatuses with integrated minichannel packings to intensify gas-liquid-solid contacting. Especially an operation of these devices within the Taylor flow regime gained extraordinary attention due to its excellent heat and mass transfer and the segmented flow characteristics. However, criteria for flow regime transitions are mainly developed from water-similar fluids and are contradictory which hinders uniform flow regime prediction. This work presents a systematic analysis of adiabatic gas-liquid downflow in a square minichannel of 1.0 mm hydraulic diameter. In the mixing zone located within the flow channel, gas was injected into the co-flowing liquid by so-called capillary injectors with variable inner diameter (0.184, 0.317, 0.490 mm). Experiments were conducted using water, water-glycerol, and water-ethanol mixtures to cover a broad range of material properties. The gas and liquid superficial velocities were varied between 9.81·10-4…2.72 m/s and 1.7·10−4…0.80 m/s, respectively. Taylor flow, Taylor-annular flow, annular flow, churn flow, and bubbly flow were observed. Using the Pi-theorem, 8 significant dimensionless groups dictating the flow transition were identified, namely uG, s/uL, s, ReG, ReL, WeG, WeL, Θ*, dIn, CI/dh, and dOu, CI/dh. Based on more than 1500 experimental data, criteria for the regime transitions of Taylor flow are provided. The derived flow regime map shows good agreement for all applied liquids and for the two larger injector geometries.  相似文献

An experimental study of the influence of condensation of supersaturated carbon vapor formed behind reflected shock waves on the process of propagation of a shock wave and formation of a detonation wave of condensation is carried out. Highly supersaturated carbon vapor was formed from thermal decay of unstable carbon suboxide C3O2 → C + 2CO behind a shock wave in mixtures containing 10–30% C3O2 in Ar. This reaction was followed by fast growth of condensed carbon particles, accompanied by heat release. Experiments have shown a considerable temperature and pressure increase in the narrow zone behind the wave front, resulting in shock wave amplification and transition to a detonation-like regime. An analysis of the kinetics and heat release in the given conditions and calculations based upon one-dimensional detonation theory have shown that in a mixture of 10% C3O2 + Ar, insufficient heat release resulted in a regime of “overdriven detonation”. In a mixture of 20% C3O2 + Ar a very good coincidence of measured values of pressure and wave velocity with calculated Chapman–Jouguet parameters is observed. In a 30% C3O2 + Ar mixture, an excess heat release caused a slow down of the effective condensation rate and a regime of “underdriven detonation” is observed.  相似文献

Two hot-wire flow diagnostics have been developed to measure a variety of turbulence statistics in the buoyancy driven, air-helium Rayleigh–Taylor mixing layer. The first diagnostic uses a multi-position, multi-overheat (MPMO) single wire technique that is based on evaluating the wire response function to variations in density, velocity and orientation, and gives time-averaged statistics inside the mixing layer. The second diagnostic utilizes the concept of temperature as a fluid marker, and employs a simultaneous three-wire/cold-wire anemometry technique (S3WCA) to measure instantaneous statistics. Both of these diagnostics have been validated in a low Atwood number (A t  ≤ 0.04), small density difference regime, that allowed validation of the diagnostics with similar experiments done in a hot-water/cold-water water channel facility. Good agreement is found for the measured growth parameters for the mixing layer, velocity fluctuation anisotropy, velocity fluctuation p.d.f behavior, and measurements of molecular mixing. We describe in detail the MPMO and S3WCA diagnostics, and the validation measurements in the low Atwood number regime (A t  ≤ 0.04). We also outline the advantages of each technique for measurement of turbulence statistics in fluid mixtures with large density differences.  相似文献

The propagation regimes of combustion waves in a 30 cm by 30 cm square cross–sectioned tube with an obstacle array of staggered vertical cylindrical rods (with BR=0.41 and BR=0.19) are investigated. Mixtures of hydrogen, ethylene, propane, and methane with air at ambient conditions over a range of equivalence ratios are used. In contrast to the previous results obtained in circular cross–sectioned tubes, it is found that only the quasi–detonation regime and the slow turbulent deflagration regimes are observed for ethylene–air and for propane–air. The transition from the quasi–detonation regime to the slow turbulent deflagration regime occurs at (where D is the tube “diameter” and is the detonation cell size). When , the quasi–detonation velocities that are observed are similar to those in unobstructed smooth tubes. For hydrogen–air mixtures, it is found that there is a gradual transition from the quasi–detonation regime to the high speed turbulent deflagration regime. The high speed turbulent deflagration regime is also observed for methane–air mixtures near stoichiometric composition. This regime was previously interpreted as the “choking” regime in circular tubes with orifice plate obstacles. Presently, it is proposed that the propagation mechanism of these high speed turbulent deflagrations is similar to that of Chapman–Jouguet detonations and quasi-detonations. As well, it is observed that there exists unstable flame propagation at the lean limit where . The local velocity fluctuates significantly about an averaged velocity for hydrogen–air, ethylene–air, and propane–air mixtures. Unstable flame propagation is also observed for the entire range of high speed turbulent deflagrations in methane–air mixtures. It is proposed that these fluctuations are due to quenching of the combustion front due to turbulent mixing. Quenched pockets of unburned reactants are swept downstream, and the subsequent explosion serves to overdrive the combustion front. The present study indicates that the dependence on the propagation mechanisms on obstacle geometry can be exploited to elucidate the different complex mechanisms of supersonic combustion waves. The use of mixtures of pea protein isolate (PPI) and κ-carrageenan (κ-C) is increasing rapidly with the aim of increasing the stability and viscosity of food products. Recent works have studied their textural and thermal properties but few have studied the influence of the temperature and concentration on the rheological behavior of model systems. In the present work, we study the thermo-rheological properties in the linear and non-linear viscoelastic regimes, in both shear and extensional flows, of mixtures of PPI and κ-C with the aim of obtaining a model for the temperature-induced gelation of complex mixtures of globular vegetable proteins under linear and non-linear deformations. We analyzed the influence of temperature and protein-to-polysaccharide ratios and showed that there are strong changes in the mechanical properties. In shear flows, small-amplitude oscillatory shear was used to study the linear regime and large-amplitude oscillatory shear was used for the non-linear regime. In extensional flows, studies were carried out via the analysis of the dynamics of capillary thinning and breakup process in a filament-thinning rheometer.  相似文献

The behavior of a concentrated, hard-sphere colloidal suspension is evaluated using the split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) experimental technique. The composition of the suspension is measured using thermograviometric analysis before and after loading. This, combined with recorded pressure distributions, result in the conclusion that the suspension undergoes high rate squeezing flow. Experimental results demonstrate that the suspension exhibits shear thickening consistent with that observed in standard rotational rheometry. At sufficiently high stresses the suspension exhibits a second regime of shear thinning behavior that is consistent with elastohydrodynamic theory that incorporates the shear modulus of the particles themselves. Further increases in stress result in irreversible behavior, i.e., rather than fracturing or crushing, the particles form non-reversible agglomerates during testing. This fact is demonstrated through the use of dynamic light scattering and electron microscopy. This behavior occurs within a regime of viscous material response which is seen to occur at normal strain rates and stresses over 104 s?1 and 40 MPa, respectively.  相似文献

Detonation initiation is investigated in aluminium/oxygen and aluminium/air mixtures. Critical conditions for initiation of spherical detonations are examined in analogy with the criteria defined for gaseous mixtures, which correlate critical parameters of detonation initiation to the characteristic size of the cellular structure. However, experimental data on the detonation cell size in these two-phase mixtures are very scarce, on account of the difficulty to perform large-scale experiments. Therefore, 2D numerical simulations of the detonation cellular structure have been undertaken, with the same combustion model for Al/air and Al/O2 mixtures. The cell size is found to be λ = 37.5 cm for a rich (r = 1.61) aluminium–air mixture, and λ = 7.5 cm for a stoichiometric aluminium-oxygen mixture, which is in reasonable agreement with available experimental data. Calculations performed in large-scale configurations (up to 25 m in length and 1.5 m in lateral direction) suggest that the critical initiation energy and predetonation radius for direct initiation of the unconfined detonation in the aluminium–air mixture are, respectively, 10 kg of TNT and 8 m. Moreover, numerical simulations reveal that the structure of the detonation wave behind the leading front is even more complicated than in pure gaseous mixtures, due to two-phase flow effects. This paper is based on work that was presented at the 21st International Colloquium on the Dynamics of Explosions and Reactive Systems, Poitiers, France, July 23–27, 2007.  相似文献

In the present experimental study, the pressure drop of the two-phase dry-plug flow (dry wall condition at the gas portions) in round mini-channels was investigated. The air–water mixtures were flowed through the round mini-channels made of polyurethane and Teflon, respectively, with their inner diameters ranging from 1.62 to 2.16 mm. In the dry-plug flow regime, the pressure drop measured became larger either by increasing the liquid superficial velocity or by decreasing the gas superficial velocity due to the increase of the number of the moving contact lines in the test section. In such a case, the role of the moving contact lines turned out to be significant. Therefore, a pressure drop model of dry-plug flow was proposed through modification of the dynamic contact angle analysis taking account of the energy dissipation by the moving contact lines, which represents the experimental data within the mean deviation of 4%.  相似文献

Employing well-established mixing rules for mean properties, appropriate expressions are derived for predicting minimum fluidization velocities of multi-component solid mixtures in terms of mono-component values for the velocity and the bed voidage at incipient fluidization. Based on flow regime and the mixing level of constituent species, it is found that these relationships differ significantly from each other, whether related to size-different or density-different mixtures. For mixed beds of size-different mixtures, the effect of volume contraction is accounted for by the mean voidage term, which is absent for segregated beds. Incorporating the volume-change of mixing leads to values of the mixture minimum fluidization velocities even lower than corresponding values for segregated bed, thus conforming to the trend reported in the literature. Size-different mixtures exhibit flow regime dependence irrespective of whether the bed is mixed or segregated. On the other hand, the mixing of constituent species does not affect the minimum fluidization velocity of density-different mixtures, as the difference in the expressions for a segregated and a mixed system is rather inconsequential. Comparison with experimental data available in the literature is made to test the efficacy of the minimum fluidization velocity expressions derived here.  相似文献

In the field of high-energy density physics (HEDP), lasers in both the nanosecond and picosecond regimes can drive conditions in the laboratory relevant to a broad range of astrophysical phenomena, including gamma-ray burst afterglows and supernova remnants. In the short-pulse regime, the strong light pressure (>Gbar) associated ultraintense lasers of intensity I > 1018 W/cm2 plays a central role in many HEDP applications. Yet, the behavior of this nonlinear pressure mechanism is not well-understood at late time in the laser–plasma interaction. In this paper, a more realistic treatment of the laser pressure ‘hole boring’ process is developed through analytical modeling and particle-in-cell simulations. A simple Liouville code capturing the phase space evolution of ponderomotively-driven ions is employed to distill effects related to plasma heating and ion bulk acceleration. Taking into account these effects, our results show that the evolution of the laser-target system encompasses ponderomotive expansion, equipartition, and quasi-isothermal expansion epochs. These results have implications for light piston-driven ion acceleration scenarios, and astrophysical applications where the efficiencies of converting incident Poynting flux into bulk plasma flow and plasma heat are key unknown parameters.  相似文献

We introduce the theoretical framework of laser wakefield acceleration and plasma wiggler radiation generation in the matched regime, give scaling laws and apply the scheme to laser systems planned for the near future. We compare the anticipated electron and x-ray beam parameters for a 100 TW, 1 PW and 10 PW short pulse Ti:Sapphire laser with previous experimental results. Depending on the chosen laser configuration, x-rays from a plasma wiggler beamline (PWB) can be several orders of magnitude brighter than current betatron sources, and comparable to or better than 3rd generation synchrotron facilities. Furthermore, increasing the laser power from 0.1 to 10 PW, the spectral peak of the betatron radiation shifts into the hard x-ray and γ-ray regime. We also discuss a basic layout of a PWB and motivate 100 TW, 1 PW and 10 PW beamlines with a wide range of uses, experiments and applications. The ability to couple the PWBs with various optical laser drivers has the potential to facilitate uses across the spectrum of light source applications.  相似文献

This research focuses on acquiring accurate flow boiling heat transfer data and flow pattern visualization for three refrigerants, R134a, R236fa and R245fa in a 1.030 mm channel. We investigate trends in the data, and their possible mechanisms, for mass fluxes from 200 to 1600 kg/m2s, heat fluxes from 2.3 kW/m2 to 250 kW/m2 at Tsat = 31 °C and ΔTsub from 2 to 9 K. The local saturated flow boiling heat transfer coefficients display a heat flux and a mass flux dependency but no residual subcooling influence. The changes in heat transfer trends correspond well with flow regime transitions. These were segregated into the isolated bubble (IB) regime, the coalescing bubble (CB) regime, and the annular (A) regime for the three fluids. The importance of nucleate boiling and forced convection in these small channels is still relatively unclear and requires further research.  相似文献

Tensile stress and flow-induced birefringence have been measured during uniaxial elongation at a constant strain rate of two polystyrene melts with narrow molecular weight distribution. For both melts, the stress- optical rule (SOR) is found to be fulfilled upto a critical stress of 2.7 MPa, independent of strain rate and temperature. Estimation of the Rouse times of the melts, from both the zero-shear viscosity and the dynamic-shear moduli at high frequency, shows that the violation of the SOR occurs when the strain rate multiplied by the Rouse time of the melt exceeds by approximately 3. The presented results indicate that in contrast to current predictions of molecular theories, the regime of extensional thinning observed by Bach et al. (2003) extends well beyond the onset of failure of the SOR, and therefore the onset of chain stretch in the non-Gaussian regime.

This work aims to elucidate how molecular parameters dictate the occurrence of inhomogeneous cohesive failure during step strain and large amplitude oscillatory shear (LAOS) respectively in entangled polymer mixtures. Based on three well-entangled polybutadiene (PB) mixtures, we perform simultaneous rheometric and particle-tracking velocimetric (PTV) measurements to illustrate how the slip length controls the degree of shear banding. Specifically, the PB mixtures were prepared using the same parent polymer (M w ∼ 106 g/mol) at 10 wt.% concentration in respective polybutadiene solvents (PBS) of three different molecular weights 1.5, 10, and 46 kg/mol. After step strain, the entangled PB mixture with PBS-1.5 K displayed interfacial failure whereas the PB mixture with PBS-10 K showed bulk failure, demonstrating the effectiveness of our strategy to suppress wall slip by controlling PBS’ molecular weight. Remarkably, the PBS-46K actually allows the elastic yielding to occur homogeneously so that no appreciable macroscopic motions were observed upon shear cessation. PBS is found to play a similar role in LAOS of these three PB mixtures. Finally, we demonstrate that in case of the slip-prone mixture based on PBS-1.5 K the interfacial failure could be drastically reduced by use of shearing plates with considerable surface roughness.  相似文献

Effects of peripherally-cut twisted tape insert on heat transfer, friction loss and thermal performance factor characteristics in a round tube were investigated. Nine different peripherally-cut twisted tapes with constant twist ratio (y/W = 3.0) and different three tape depth ratios (DR = d/W = 0.11, 0.22 and 0.33), each with three different tape width ratios (WR = w/W = 0.11, 0.22 and 0.33) were tested. Besides, one typical twisted tape was also tested for comparison. The measurement of heat transfer rate was conducted under uniform heat flux condition while that of friction factor was performed under isothermal condition. Tests were performed with Reynolds number in a range from 1000 to 20,000, using water as a working fluid. The experimental results revealed that both heat transfer rate and friction factor in the tube equipped with the peripherally-cut twisted tapes were significantly higher than those in the tube fitted with the typical twisted tape and plain tube, especially in the laminar flow regime. The higher turbulence intensity of fluid in the vicinity of the tube wall generated by the peripherally-cut twisted tape compared to that induced by the typical twisted tape is referred as the main reason for achieved results. The obtained results also demonstrated that as the depth ratio increased and width ratio decreased, the heat transfer enhancement increased. Over the range investigated, the peripherally-cut twisted tape enhanced heat transfer rates in term of Nusselt numbers up to 2.6 times (turbulent regime) and 12.8 times (laminar regime) of that in the plain tube. These corresponded to the maximum performance factors of 1.29 (turbulent regime) and 4.88 (laminar regime).  相似文献
